"Have I ever told you that you’re too tall?" She leaned forward and kissed his cheek. Then she rested her forehead against his and put her arms around his neck. With the table, she actually had a few inches on him.
Charlie ran a hand over the top of her head and tugged a few of the shorter strands that now framed her face and rubbed them between his fingers.
"Interesting color you’ve chosen." Chloe smiled. "Haven’t seen you smile much lately." She shrugged. "Don’t scare me again, not like that."
"Promise."
"I love you, Sullivan. You know that, right?"
"I love you too, Charlie, and you know that’s why I did what I thought I had to do." He nodded.
"Alright then, just this once," he whispered, slipping his hand to the back of her neck and bringing her face down to his. He kissed her, gently and softly on the lips. Then let go. "Now help me sit down."
