    Chapter 1: Lunch Date:

"Dad, come on, it'll only be a few hours and I promise
I'll be back in time to pick you up from work." Chloe
flashed a warm smile at her father in hopes of edging
him to cave in to her request.

Monday at noon Chloe sat in her father's office. She
was here for one reason and one reason only. She
needed a damn car. And the only person she could
think of. Daddy. So she was here to butter him up to
letting her use his car for researching purposes.
Spring Break had started last Friday and now that
school was out, and everyone else had plans, Clark was
helping Lana at the Talon, Pete still had football
practice, and she was left with one thing left to do.
Research for her upcoming article of the Torch.
Somewhat of a back to school, 'hey, look at me,
reporter who never rests' front page headliner.

"Chloe, no. You aren't going digging around anywhere
without someone with you. I know how you are. You
don't stop for anything and trouble is your middle
name." Gabe sighed and noticed the smile drifting
slowly from her face. "And how did you get here
    anyways?"

"I took the bus. But that's not important. Dad,"
She gave him her best pleading voice. "I have to get
this done. I would ask Clark or Pete, don't you think
I thought about it. But Clark just gets in my way and
Pete just nags. So neither of them would be any help
to me in the process. Plus, if you would just let me
borrow your car so I wouldn't have to *take* the bus
it would be easier on both of us." She grinned
slightly. "You know you want to."

"Chloe..." Gabe started with the warning.

Lex stood in the doorway of his plant manager's
office, unbeknownst to the two deeply engaged in
conversation, listening to the discussion. He had to
give the girl credit, she didn't easily take 'no' for
an answer. Good reporter skills, he thought. She had
the drive and determination down, and a little spunk
    on top of all that.

"You know," Chloe started. "I would still have a car
had Pete and Clark not wrecked it, and if your hard
headed boss would give you a raise for all the
weekends you spend here along with the immense amount
of traveling you do, we wouldn't be here having this
conversation." Chloe sat rigid in her seat.

"Speaking of hard headed bosses," Lex started and
    entered the office casually.

Gabe put his head in his hands and he watched as Chloe
    cringed from behind.

"I was just coming to ask you if you wanted to take a
break for lunch. On me, of course." Lex stood beside
Gabe's desk, his peripheral vision allowing his to see
both Sullivans out of the corners of his eyes.

Chloe smiled sweetly at him, trying to hide the fact
that she'd just slandered him to his best employee.
He had to smirk at that. No other way to reply.

"Mr. Luthor," a look of annoyance crossed her face
and Lex let his smirk grow into a grin.

"Ms. Sullivan. How are you on this fine day?" He
asked her. She narrowed her eyes, a smile playing at
    her features.

"Peachy fucking keen and you?" She replied in
    sarcasm.

"Chloe!" Gabe said in a warning voice.

Lex looked down at her with a full on smile,
"Jawbreaker. Good one." He turned to Gabe. "Don't
worry about it, I was her age once."

Gabe nodded in confusion and straightened the papers
on his desk out of habit. "About lunch, I don't think
I can make it." And then he shot a look at Chloe.
"And about the car. Absolutely not."

She smirked and looked down at her nails before
shrugging. "Well, then I guess since the bus won't be
here for another four hours, I'll just spend some
    qaulity time with you today."

Lex grinned once again. He turned to Gabe. "Why
don't the three of us go for lunch." Gabe looked at
Lex as if he had a death wish, which would be
prominently granted by his reporter daughter. Even if
she was in highschool, she'd no doubtedly suffocate
    him with inquiries.

"I'd love to." Chloe stood and slung her bag over her
    shoulder. "Dad?"

Gabe stood and started for his coat. "Oh, no, I can't
I have a meeting in fifteen." He looked down at the
files on his desk. "Unless you two want to wait
around. But I can't promise how long I'll be." He
saw the distressed look Chloe gave him and he gave her
an 'I'm sorry' look. Lex turned his head to Chloe.

    "Still want to come?"

"Boy do I ever." She replied picking up on an
innuendo probably not even warranted to her.

"Well, I wouldn't be a gentleman if I backed out on an
invitation, now would I?" He had picked up on her
    reply and she smiled knowingly.

"I don't suppose you would. Dad?" She turned her
gaze to Gabe who had divulged himself in paperwork.

"Yeah, honey, that's fine. Just come back to my
office when you're done." He smiled up at her and she
    grinned back.

"Absolutely." She replied and noticed Lex standing at
the doorway offering her his arm. She slid her hand
between his arm and body letting the back of her hand
brush up against his side. She rested it on his
bicep. "Why, Mr. Luthor, how very gentlemanly of
you." The sarcasm dripping from her tongue.

"Chloe..." Her father started and she turned back
    looking at him innocently.

    "Yes?"

    "Behave." He ordered seriously.

She let a full smile sweep her face. "Why whatever
are you implying?" He smiled back at her.

"Oh, you know." He said as he looked back down at his
    papers.

"Shall we?" Lex motioned with his free arm at the
    hallway in front of them.

"We shall." She replied squeezing the firm muscle
beneath her hand as she took a step. Lex felt her
touch seering his skin through his shirt. 'That can't
be good.' he thought to himself before falling in step
    with her.

Chapter 2: Then there was two:

Chloe sat down in the seat Lex pulled out for her and
watched him as he sat down across from her. She
looked down at the menu. "Did you have to pick the
only place where there aren't any prices listed?"

    "It's on me."

She smirked at him. "I wish." She said as a waiter
wheeled a cart of desserts pass their table. He
caught her implication and grinned at her.

"So, Miss Sullivan," "Chloe." She interupted him.
"After lunch you can go back to calling me Miss
Sullivan but please call me Chloe atleast while we're
    at lunch."

He smiled and leaned closer. "I didn't realize we
were on a first name basis."

"Well, Lex. What exactly does a girl have to do in
order for her to get on your first name list?" She
leaned closer to him. He sat back and smirked at her.

"You refuse to back down, I like that." He took a sip
of his water in front of him.

"I refuse to back down to you. Anyone else and I
wouldn't have a problem." She shrugged and looked
    back down at the menu.

"Why me?" Lex leaned closer to her once again.

"You're too cocky." She smiled at him. "In a bad
    way."

He grinned at the double entendre. "Most women..."

"Hot brunette two o'clock." She said leaning closer
to him just as a tall brunette stopped at their table.

"Lex." The girl said casually. "How have you been?"
She ran her hand up his arm and Chloe sat back
enjoying the way he rolled his eyes.

"Theresa, I'd like you to meet Chloe. Chloe, this is
Theresa." Chloe arched an eyebrow in Lex's direction
and then looked up at the woman standing beside Lex's
    seat.

"Nice to meet you, Carol." She smiled down at the
    blonde.

'She's either incredibly stupid or very catty. Either
way, I'm going to enjoy this.' Chloe thought with a
    grin.

"Why don't you join us for lunch, I'm sorry what was
    your name again?"

    "Theresa."

Chloe smiled sweetly at her. "This probably isn't the
best time to tell you this but you have a little
something..." She pointed her finger to one of her
own nostrils. The girl shrieked and ran to the
bathroom. Chloe grinned at Lex and he smiled back.

    "Nice move."

Chloe looked back up at him from the menu. "Thanks.
I try." She said shyly with a look of pure innocence
on her face. "Is this in English?"

Lex laughed and Chloe stared at the sight in front of
her. He stopped abruptly when he saw the look on her
face. "Do that again." She said and smiled.

"Do what?" He straightened in his seat.

"That laugh. The genuine one." She sat back
slouching slightly. "It's nice." He smiled at her.

"Not many people can do that to me."

"Well, then, I'll have to keep trying won't I?" She
sipped on her water and choked a bit when she saw the
    brunette approaching there table.

"Very funny." Theresa replied to her comment on
    having something.

She stood beside Lex's seat again. "Oh," Chloe
leaned across the table staring pointedly at her nose.
"I thought you had something there." She shrugged.
"But the way you're nose was casting shadows on your
upper lip, oh, I'm sorry that was terribly rude for
    me."

    "Nothing a little discipline can't change." Lex's
eyes danced, the blue lightening a little.

"Now, now, now, Lex. You know spankings aren't my
forte." He choked back his water and wiped his mouth
with the back of his hand. Theresa glared at Chloe
    and she smiled back.

"Maybe it's Theresa here you're having flashbacks of."
Chloe shrugged and Theresa turned and stormed away.

"That was really below the belt." Lex commented.

"Just where I like to be." Chloe grinned at him.

The waiter approached their table. "Shall I take your
    order?"

Lex nodded and ordered for both of them against
    Chloe's protests.

"Did you want to end up with something you'd regret
    later?" Lex asked.

She looked at the slimy substance on her plate.
"Depends, what's this?" She poked her fork at it and
it slid across her plate. "Oh, that's just fucking
nasty." She placed her napkin over her plate and Lex
    laughed again, harder this time.

She smiled at him. "Two and 0, Mr Luthor."

    "Lex."

She nodded. "Okay, Lex. So what have you got over
    there?"

    "Chicken Cordon Bleu."

She narrowed her eyes at him. "Wanna trade?"

"Not if my life depended on it." He cut a peice of
chicken with his fork and raised it to his mouth.
    "Oh, did you want some?"

She reached her arm across the table and took his
wrist in her hand. She redirected the bite to her own
mouth and closed her lips around the meat, letting her
lips suck at the tines on the fork. She moaned as she
chewed and swallowed it. "Wow." She said and opened
her eyes to see him staring at her in disbelief.

"What?" She said as his eyes watched her closely.

"How'd you do that?" Lex inquired cutting a peice of
    meat with his knife.

    "Do what?"

"Make eating sound so sensual." Lex replied blatantly
    across from her.

"Lex. Anything that has to do with your mouth you can
make sensual. Watch." She took the candle from the
center of the table and removed the glass covering.
She raised the flame to her lips and blew softly until
the flame flickered and went out. Lex licked his own
lips and watched her as she put the candle back in the
center of the table and replaced the top. "See."

Lex nodded. "Why aren't you dating anyone?"

She grinned. "Still waiting for the right guy to ask
    me out."

    "And who's the right guy?"

'The one sitting across from me.' She shrugged. "I
guess I'll know when he comes along."

"So he hasn't come along yet?"

"No comment. I know you're trying to direct this
conversation back to Clark. But for once, can I just
not have a Clark filled conversation? It's all Lana
does and all Clark does and if you're going to
start..." Her voice trailed off as she saw the amused
    look on his face. "What?"

"You're cute when you ramble." His eyes widened when
he realized he'd just said that out loud.

"Cute, huh?" She shrugged. "I guess I can live with
that if you can live with cocky."

He grinned at her response. "I can live with being
    cocky."

"In a bad way." She reminded him. He nodded taking a
    bite of his chicken.

    Chapter 3:

    * * * * *

Chloe sat in the passenger seat staring out the window
at the passing fields. "Corn. Wheat. corn. Wheat.
    Wheat..Empty...Wheat."

    "Stop, please." Lex asked pleadingly.

Chloe grinned over at him. "Bugging you yet?"

"No, in all honesty I'm jealous because while I'm in
my seat driving, you're sitting beside me counting off
    fields that we pass."

She reached her hand over and pat his knee. "It'll be
okay, Lex. One day I'll drive and you can
    sit...STOP!"

Lex slammed the brakes down hard. He had glanced over
at her while she was talking and wasn't sure why a
scream like that made him obey her, but as the car
came to a halt Chloe immediately jumped out of her
seat and ran into the nearest field.

Lex followed closely. "CHLOE. WAIT!" He yelled as
loud as possible. The strands of wheat whipped at his
face and a soft body broke his speed as he fell to the
ground on top of it. Chloe stood and brushed herself
    off helping Lex up.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Lex asked in a
demeaning tone. Chloe whipped her face around to look
    at him.

"Would you just shut the fuck up?" She whispered
harshly at him, her eyes challenging him. He narrowed
his eyes back and she grabbed him by the jaw turning
his face away from her in the direction of where she
had been looking when he encountered her.

    "What? I don't see..."

"Just Wait." Her grip on him tightened and he made no
    protests to move.

Just as he looked back up in the direction of where
they were staring a ray of sun from overhead flickered
and caught on an odd shaped object, just for a second.

    "What the hell..." Lex started.

"Come here." She let go of his face and took his hand
in hers, twining their fingers together. She stuck
her hand out and touched where the invisible shape had
seemed to appear. She pulled her hand back sharply
and saw the red glow on her fingers of her left hand.
She pointed one up to the sky with a mock serious
expression. "ET Phone Home." She grinned at Lex and
he smiled down at her, hoping to relieve some of the
    tension.

A flash of red light encompassed them and their
surroundings, for a split second the world around them
glowed red. The wheat stilled in the wind and the
craft in front of them suddenly became visible, as if
Chloe's touching it with her own broke down a force
field. Lex stared at the metallic craft in front of
    them.

    "Damn." Chloe said in awe.

"I see your damn and raise you a holy fucking shit."
Lex mimicked her voice, only with a hint of his own
    awe.

"Sweetie, we could play this all day, because Damn, is
that...oh my god..." Her words trailed off and she
bent down to touch it again. Lex stilled her by
wrapping his arms around her bringing her back up
beside him. She looked up at his face. "That is a
UFO, right?" She asked in disbelief.

Lex nodded glancing from the object in front of them
to her face and the gleam of light in her eyes that
her voice betrayed. He let a wicked grin quirk at his
lips. "I'd say that's affirmative." Chloe nodded and
grinned at him. She lunged herself at him wrapping
her arms around his neck and he twirled her around.

"We found a spaceship." She screamed in laughter. He
pulled her closer and settled her on the ground. Her
face went stoic for a moment in an attempt to hide the
fear and worry it posed. "Oh, god, Lex."

He turned to look at her. "What?"

    "We have to tell Clark."

"Why?" he turned his body to face hers and ran his
hands up and down her arms.

"Because it's just like the one..." Her voice trailed
off as she caught the amused and confused look on his
    face.

"It's like the one what?" He shook his head slowly
    through the sentence.

    "I was going to..."

"Chloe." Lex said sternly and her eyes met his. He
closed the space between them. "It's okay. You don't
    have to tell me."

She nodded. "The one in his cellar."

Lex stepped back and looked down at her. "Excuse me?"

"He has one just like this in his cellar."

    "And he told you this?"

She shook her head and looked over at the craft.
    "No."

"So, does he know that you know?"

She shook her head again. "I didn't have the heart to
tell him what my research proved to unfold."

Lex saw the pain etched in her face and noticed the
lines of betrayal. "It's okay." He pulled her into
his arms and rocked her back and forth. "Take your
    time." She shook her head.

"I want to do this now. I need to get this off my
chest." Chloe sighed and Lex looked back at the
    craft.

    "Okay, Let's do it."

He flipped his phone open and dialled a number. "Who
    are you calling?"

    "Clark."

She shrieked and grabbed his phone pressing the end
button. "LEX!" She slapped him on the chest and put
his phone into her back pocket. "No way in hell, I
meant I wanted to tell you. I think you have a right
to know, afterall, he did save your life. So you're
friendship with him is based on lies just like mine is
with him." Lex nodded and stared at her.

    "So?" he arched an eyebrow.

She pulled the phone out of her back pocket and
dialled a number. "Sam, hi. Oh, yeah? Love you too,
babe, yes, I know, I will come back and spend the
whole summer with you. I promise, yes." There was a
slight pause in the one sided conversation. "I
actually have a favor to ask. bribery huh? Sexual
favors is all I have to offer." Chloe laughed a
little and looked up to see Lex's eyes flicker
something and then it drown out. She held his eyes
for the remaining time of the conversation. "Can you
meet me on route 72, about 20 miles from the LexCorp
plant. Thanks hun." She hung up the phone and stuck
it in Lex's shirt pocket. "You okay?" Her eyes
    narrowed on him.

"Sexual favors huh?" Lex replied dryly.

She grinned. "Don't be jealous." He chuckled for her
amusement. "hey, Lex. You might want to think about
where you want this UFO right here, taken. I have a
friend coming to pick it up and haul it away for you."
Lex nodded and swung his arm around her shoulder.

"So tell me how you came to find a spaceship in
    Clark's cellar."

    Chloe shrugged. "Well, one day..."

    Chapter 4:

...I was sitting in Clark's fortress of solitude. It
was Mid-February. Mrs. kent told me he'd be there.
When I went to see him and he didn't answer I decided
I'd wait it out." She shrugged and Lex sensed her
uncomfortableness. He sat down and pulled her down to
sit indian style across from him. The spaceship no
less than ten feet away from them.

He held her hands in his urging her to go on.
Whatever this one highschool senior would say, could
possibly confirm his theories on the day Clark saved
    him.

Chloe looked up at Lex's eyes noticing that he was
taking this a lot better then she did.

"So I got curious..." Lex chuckled and then quickly
stopped. She smiled. "I know, I know, full on
reporter mode. So I decided to take a quick look
around and got interested in the Lana-scope. Although
now that she lives with me he can't spy on her." She
shook her head. "But anyways. So I looked in the
telescope and fixed it along the road. Then I skimmed
the sky and then the fields. And then I saw him.
Coming out of the cellar. He walked right over to a
fence post and drove it into the ground. Like it was
    a toothpick."

She saw the 'right-very-unlikely' look on Lex's face.
"I am completely serious, Lex." He nodded, "Go on."
She looked over at the space ship and he did too.

"So I watched him do it four or five times and by this
time I got so curious about what was in that cellar I
literally started to itch. I was still sitting there
staring off into space when he came up behind me. But
I swear to you I waved to him from the window of the
barn and then he was right behind me. It really
freaked me out, but I just figured at the time that it
was no big deal. I had probably just spaced out."
    Lex nodded.

She figured this was just as appealing to him than it
was to her but the fact that he had said two words in
the last five minutes was starting to get to her. She
    went on anyways.

"So that night Lana was having this big Valentine's
Day shindig. Everyone was there. Except me." She
paused and felt Lex's eyes slide over to her from
where they had been studying the ship. "I was
sneaking into the Kent's cellar. I know, not a very
nice gesture from a best friend. But he lied to me.
About everything. So I figured instead of waiting
around to find out if he was ever going to tell me
anything. I took it upon myself to find the answers.
I got down in the cellar and at first didn't see
anything unusual. There were a few things covered
    with drop cloths."

"As I turned away to go back up the stairs something
made me turn around. I think it was when I
investigated Clark's adoption." Lex narrowed his eyes
    at her.

"You what?" He asked in disbelief.

She sighed and stared at the ground past where their
hands were being held together by eachother. "Look,
okay, I thought I was doing him a favor, so I checked
into it. When I brought it up to him he spazzed out
and disowned me as a friend. He asked me to stop
looking into the adoption. So I told him I would."

    "Did you?"

    "No."

    Lex grinned. "That's my girl."

Chloe's eyes snapped from the ground to meet his
playful eyes. "Your girl huh?" She smirked and
tilted her head to the side.

He smiled at her warming every bone in her body. She
felt faint for the first time ever. Not even Clark
could have this impact on her.

    "Well, carry on." Lex grinned.

'Obviously he didn't feel it.' She mentally berated
    herself.

"Well. I turned back and the first cloth I tore off
of something it was that." She pointed to the space
craft. "Well, not exatly that one, but very similar.
This one's move rounded. The other one had sharp
    points." Lex nodded.

"You didn't happen to take pictures of it did you?"
    Lex asked casually.

Chloe's eyes shimmered with something he'd never seen
in anyone before and he knew the answer before she
said it. "Here." She pulled her bag from over her
shoulder and opened it handing him an envelop
    containing four pictures.

The first one of her and Clark and Pete. Both boys
had their arms wrapped around her and she stood there
in a dark red string bikini. Clark had a goofy grin
on his face and Pete just had a broad smile. Chloe
wasn't looking in the same direction as either of
them, she seemed more focused on something to the
    right of the camera person.

The second one was the spaceship. It was a little
fuzzy but Lex realized it was his eyes, not the
quality of the photo. He was straining to make it out
what it was and then it clicked. It was the
paperweight from his desk. The same object that would
have fit in the cave wall. He ran a finger over the
picture. Chloe leaned forward and took the picture
    from him. "Ahh, the key."

Lex snapped his head up at her. "What?"

"The key?" Chloe said half asking, startled by his
    reaction.

"How do you know about it?"

She grinned wickedly. "I have it."

Lex's mouth dropped instantly, he didn't even try to
    cover it up. "How?"

She leaned forward and brushed his cheek with her
hand. "I'll never tell." She said in a sing song
    voice causing him to grin.

She sat back and laughed. "Honestly, I was making
cookies with Clark for a bake sale for the Talon. The
one from two weeks ago." She looked up to Lex to see
if he remembered. He nodded. "I found it in the
    flour jar."

He let out a low rumbling laugh. "The what?"

"The container for Flour. Baking Flour, you know?"

He smirked and nodded. "Then what?"

The spark in his eyes made Chloe smile. He looked
like he was a little boy opening a present on
Christmas morning. He was so eager to hear more.
She went to take the other pictures out of his hand
and he pulled them back. "Why are you not paying
    attention in this one?"

She looked at the picture and then blushed faintly.
It was the one of her and Pete and Clark from last
year at the pool. "I was distracted." She said
    calmly looking away.

    "By who?"

"How do you know it was a who?"

"How could I not. That look on your face clearly
contains a drive of lust. That is the look of
passion." He held the picture out for her. She took
the picture and held it up.

She bit her lip and Lex wanted to kiss it, suck it
into his mouth and make it better although she
    probably hadn't hurt it.

"You. You were there with Victoria. I was looking at
you." She looked away again and fanned the picture
    back and forth between them.

"I couldn't have been there. I would have noticed you
    in that delectable swim wear."

She looked down at the picture and dropped it into her
bag. "Considering you and Victoria never came up for
air, the whole time I was there, I'm sure that's how
    you missed me."

He looked into her eyes. He saw the pain. Not
jealousy, not bitterness, just pain. He did remember
that day. He had poured many thousands of dollars in
the rec center for an outside pool and the first day
it opened he and Victoria made an appearance. He also
remembered how they screwed wildly on the way back to
the mansion in his limo. He ran a hand over his head.

    "I'm sorry that I didn't see you that day. I wish I
    had."

Chloe grinned. "It's okay. It was over as soon as it
started." She shrugged and Lex's brow furrowed. She
wanted to drop the subject and he'd let her. He
looked back down at another picture. This one of her
and a tall black haired man. His muscles visible
through his polo shirt and khaki's. His arms wrapped
around her waist and one hand was slid under her
shirt, resting on her stomach. His green eyes almost
matched hers. One of her hands was arched up and
behind his neck bringing his head closer to her
shoulder. The way she leaned back on him showing her
support and trust. His lips right beside her ear.
Both their eyes staring dead into the camera, dancing
with laughter and their smiled mirrored it.

"Who's this?" He held out the photo.

She glanced up at it and then back towards the road.
    "Sam."

Lex looked back down at the picture. 'Shit.' he
thought and knew at that moment there was no way in
hell he'd get close to Chloe with that kind of
    protection.

He dropped it into her back and looked at the next
one. His voice caught. "Holy shit." He said as the
picture showed him a full size spacecraft.

"That is what I found February 14th at 10:30 at night
    in Clark Kent's cellar."

Lex nodded and heard the horn honking fron the road.
he stared down at the picture a little harder then
back to the real life thing right in front of him.
    "Amazing."

    Chapter 5:

Chloe stood as a figure moved it's way through the
field. She caught sight of the the dark hair and
squealed with delight. She jumped into the tall man's
arms and he squeezed her to him tightly. She hugged
him back with all her might. He lowered her gently to
the ground and took a step back motioning with one
finger for her to turn around. As she did he stood
    and grinned.

"Good, god, Chloe. You are amazing." he lowered his
lips to her and lightly kissed her lips.
"Just...amazing." he pulled her in close for another
hug. He noticed Lex and stuck his hand out. "And who
    do we have here?"

Lex shook the man's hand and realized they were the
same height and near the same build, Sam may be a
little more muscular. It was then he realized how
tiny Chloe was. That's why this man looked so huge
    behind her.

"Sam Dawson, this my friend, is Lex Luthor." Chloe
introduced them. "And that over there is why I need
    you."

"And offering sexual favors." Sam said narrowing his
eyes at her. "You know I'm not like that." He
grinned and she shook her head.

"Yes, Sam. You are like that." Chloe matched his
    grin.

His eyes finally fell to rest on the metallic
obtrusion. "Holy shit." He said as he inched
closer to it. "I haven't seen one of these since
    Roswell."

Chloe smiled over at Lex. He barely smiled back.
    "Roswell?" Lex asked curiously.

"My father worked for, well, if I told you I'd have to
kill you. But he worked for a "branch" of the
government. And one day, I got curious and followed
him into work. Snuck into the sight and watched as a
team of specialists tore apart a craft. It was a
little bigger than this one. Rumored that it had some
precious cargo on board. They never found it though."
He turned to look at Chloe whose expression had just
    blanked.

    "Chloe?" Lex stepped forward.

"Oh, my god." She said as she squatted and put her
    head between her knees. "Clark's..."

"Clark's what?" Lex said as Sam watched and Lex
kneeled beside her. "What is it Chloe?"

"It all adds up now. How old was he when he the
meteors hit? Four or five? That was the same day he
was adopted. Plus, he has all these *abilities*.
What if...what if Clark were some precious cargo."

Lex stared at Chloe. He pulled her into his arms and
heard a quick sob form in her throat. Sam's eyes
danced. "Wow. A real alien right here in
Smallville." He reached a hand out to Chloe and she
took it, pulling herself up into his embrace as she
    left Lex behind.

"Sam. What am I supposed to do?" She let the tears
    flow into his chest.

"Well, dare I put my two cents in. I'd say we need to
load this mother up on the truck and get it away from
    prying eyes fast."

Chloe nodded at Sam's quickness on his toes and Lex
swalled back something as he watched Sam rock Chloe in
his arms. Sam leaned down and kissed her on the
forhead. She turned in his arms, her back to him now,
she stared at Lex. "Do you know where you want it?"
    Chloe said a bit stronger.

"Yes. I have a place for it." Chloe nodded and
turned once more in Sam's arms. Facing him she stood
on her toes and pressed a kiss gingerly to his cheek.

"I'll just go get the truck." Sam said quickly
leaving Chloe with a sigh. He ran to the road
    alongside the field.

Chloe looked over at Lex who was staring fixedly on
the craft. "So why aren't you two dating?" He asked
Chloe, not looking at her. Her mouth dropped and then
    a grin formed.

"You are so jealous!" She said teasingly. "Anyways,
been there done that." She waved her arm in Sam's
direction. The sound of the truck starting and
    entering the field.

"So who broke up with who?" Lex looked over at her
now and saw no emotions on her face besides amusement.

"Oh, Sam did." She said watching as the truck came to
a stop. "Not that I minded or anything, I mean,
afterall, he is gay." She smirked in Lex's direction
    and then over to Sam.

"We ready to do this and be done?" Sam asked getting
    out of the truck.

Chloe watched as the two men combined their strength
and pulled their treasure up into the cab on the
truck. It fit perfectly and the top covered it
nicely. Chloe smiled over at Lex. "What?" She asked
quietly when he just stared at her.

"Nothing." he replied and turned to Sam. "Follow
me?" He said more in a command than a question. Sam
    nodded in reply.

Chloe walked after Lex following him. "What are you
doing?" Lex asked as he felt her presence behind him.

"Ummm, getting a ride." She tilted her head to the
confusion etched on his face. "Lex?"

"Why aren't you riding with Sam."

The hurt from his comment wound in her eyes,
strangling her emeral iris'. "Fine." She said simple
turning around to head back in the direction she'd
started. She felt a warm hand on her arm and he spun
    her back around.

    "I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me."

"Well, you have Theresa, and I have Sam." She
shrugged and he pulled her into a hug before cringing
at her next comment. "And well, you win because you
have Helen too." She stepped out of his embrace and
    started towards the road.

    Chapter 6:

Chloe sat quietly beside Lex in his car. They weren't that far from
the mansion when Chloe arched an eyebrow and looked over at him.
    "You're keeping it here?"

Lex glanced over at her. "I have some other research here also."

She nodded and looked back out the window. "Can we put all this
tension behind us? Because, really, we are kinda in this together."

Lex grabbed her hand and she turned her head to look at him relieved.
    "It's behind us."

Chloe nodded. "So is Helen gonna freak when she sees a spaceship
    sitting in her living room?"

Lex let go of her hand slowly to turn up the drive in front of the
    estate. "She moved out."

Chloe mentally slapped herself. "I'm sure it was for the best."

Lex came to an abrupt stop and turned his head fully to look at her.
Her eyes wandered around the car finally resting on the dashboard in
front of her. "You know, no one has said that to me. Most people
    apologize."

    "Why?" Her eyes became curious.

"Why what?" he shifted in his seat to face her.

"Why would people apologize, be empathetic, sure. But no one besides
you and Helen know who should be the one apologizing. I just can't
apologize for something I had nothing to do with. Even if I do
something that everyone else blames me for but I don't see how it
could be considered bad, I can't apologize for that either."

    Lex nodded. "You're rambling again."

She smiled and opened her car door. "I do that a lot. You'll learn
to love it." She winked and stepped out of the car thankful for the
breath of fresh air awaiting her arrival.

Lex came around the car and stood beside her. "You should call Gabe,
let him know we're at my place."

Chloe nodded. "Oh, yea, and then I can tell him how I just lost my
virginity to his boss after seducing him."

Lex's eyes got a bit wide and a mask of amusement plastered itself
across his features. "Why would you do that?"

She grinned and pulled her phone from her bag. "Because if I tell my
dad that after we went to lunch I came back to your place, which is a
lot farther away than having you drop me off at home, he'll be
suspicious. Plus, you are an attractive older man." She shrugged and
dialed her father's number at work.

"So you're saying your father doesn't trust me."

"No." She said with a heavy grin. "I'm saying he doesn't trust me."
She laughed at the look on his face.

"Hey, dad. How was your meeting?"

"Fine honey. Is something the matter?"

"No nothing's wrong, I'm at Lex's. We decided to come back here after
    lunch."

"Chloe..." Gabe said warning in his voice and Lex couldn't help but
stifle a bit of laughter as Chloe held the phone up between both their
ears, their heads together as they both listened in on the conversation.

    "What?" Chloe said innocently.

"Didn't I tell you to behave yourself?" Gabe sighed and Lex looked at
Chloe from the corner of his eye.

"I know, but daddy." her voice became incredibly whiny and Lex never
thought she'd possess that tone of voice. "I couldn't help it, he's
    just so...so...sexy..."

"Chloe, stop, I know that tone of voice. I can't beleive you'd even
take it that far." Gabe chuckled lightly. "Are you trying to give me
    a heartattack?"

Chloe laughed and Lex laughed along with her. "No, just trying to
keep you on your toes. Lex and I realized that we actually get
along...on a platonic level, so we're just going to hang out for the
    rest of the day."

Gabe sighed. "Fine. But be careful."

Lex arched an eyebrow. "I hope that isn't in reference to me." Lex
    said sternly and Chloe giggled.

"No, and I knew you were listening, but if you two are hanging out
together, I know Chloe, and she'll no doubt talk you into taking her
shopping for the next freak of the week."

Chloe looked over at Lex. "I'm not easily convinced."

"You've never been dealt with by my daughter."

Lex smirked at his answer. "That's true. But I assure you, Gabe, we
    aren't going alien hunting."

Chloe snickered. Gabe finally hung up sounding defeated and Lex
looked over at a smiling Chloe.

"Alien hunting huh?" Chloe walked to one of the back doors of the
mansion as Sam pulled up in the garage.

"Well, technically we aren't." Lex grinned at her.

"We already found one." They both said together and smiled.

    Chapter 7:

Chloe followed Sam and Lex down a maze of hallways, a
wheelbarrow directing them. Lex halted at a door and
pulled out a chain of keys. He swiftly unlocked it
and turned the light on. Sam stood completely still.

"What the..." His voice trailed off as Chloe waited impatiently to get in the room.

"Hey, slowpoke, get in the damn room." She planted
her hands on her hips as Sam finally picked up his
hold on the wheelbarrow and they turned the craft
sideways to get it through the door. Following them
in through the door Chloe paled at what she saw.
    "Jesus, Christ Lex."

"Sick obsession, I know. Helen told me a few days
before she left that it was completely unhealthy."
Lex shrugged and manuevred the wheelbarrow off to the
side before leaning all his weight against it. Sam
followed suit collapsing over the craft.

Chloe shut the door behind her and locked it. Lex
watched her closely as she circled the car in which he
had driven over the bridge. She looked back up at
    him. "No."

"No what?" He tilted his head to the side.

"No, I didn't mean, Jesus, Christ Lex, you're a god
damn weirdo. I meant it as in Jesus, Christ, Lex, you
were in this car and you could have died." She slowly
walked over to him and saw the amusement on his face.

"But Clark saved me." He grinned.

She stopped in front of him and cupped a cheek, slowly
running her thumb along his cheekbone. "I'm glad."
She placed a kiss on his other cheek and turned around
to look at the car again.

Sam sighed heavily. "If you don't need me anymore,
    I'm going to get going."

"Sure how much do you want?" Lex pulled out his
    wallet.

Sam held up his hand and waved the gesture away. "You
owe me nothing. But little Miss Chloe over here," he
threw his arms around her and raised her face up to
meet him, her feet dangling off the floor as she
wriggled against him. "Owes me a few sexual favors."
Chloe got her hand free and smacked his shoulder.

"Look, ya big galoot, I owe you nothing." He placed
    her gently onto the ground.

"I'll tell ya what, you come visit me for a whole
month this summer, and stay with me, at my place, and
I'll call off the sexual favors." He winked at her.

She seemed to ponder for a moment. "I suppose that
can be arranged." She grinned and stood tall to kiss
his cheek a lot harder than she had kissed Lex's. She
smashed her lips into him and when she pulled away Sam
adamantly wiped the back of his hand over it a few
    times.

"Jeez, Chlo, think you could not slime my face?" She
    grinned and stepped back.

"I could, but I know you like it sloppy." She pulled
herself up to hug him and when he set her feet back on
the floor he turned to an amused Lex. His jaw was
squared off a little bit, but Sam was pretty sure it
had something to do with all the sexual tension in the
    room.

"Take care of her, okay?" Sam said threateningly but
with a smile. "I wouldn't want to have to kill you."

He smiled and walked to the door. Lex turned to look
at Chloe. "Does he know who I am?"

Chloe grinned. "I mean more to him than your money."
Lex smirked and looked back at Sam.

"Nice to meet you." Lex replied snidely.

"Don't be jealous, Lex. You're more my type than she
is." Sam winked and walked out of the room. Lex
turned abruptly to a snorting with laughter Chloe.

"He just...just hit on you." Chloe snorted again and
sank to the floor. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, I'm used to it." Lex held a hand out to
pull her back up and she stopped laughing and looked
    at him hard.

She let a roar of laughter sweep over her again. "I
can't believe men hit on you all the time." lex
grinned as he pulled her up.

"When you have money, anything with a heartbeat will
    hit on you."

Chloe looked thoughtful for a moment. "Huh, I always
thought it was when you wear leather and fishnets
anything with a heartbeat will hit on you."
"Not everyone is in to Leather and fishnets, Chloe."
Lex led her down a hallway and up a staircase.

"Not everyone is in to money, Lex." She quipped
    evenly.

"So what do you look for in a man?" Lex asked as he
opened the door to his office.

Chloe strode in and plopped herself down on the
leather couch awaiting her and Lex sat at her feet on
the other end of the couch. She pulled her feet back
and Lex took them both and put them on his lap. He
slowly untied the first boot and then the second, he
pulled them off and followed with the socks. She
grinned at him. "Thanks." She smiled sleepily at
    him.

"So, are you going to answer me?" She nudged her feet
underneath his leg and he lifted up a little to let
her. He felt her wiggle her toes beneath his leg and
    smirked. "You're not are you."

She let her eyes flutter shut. "A week ago I would
have told you Clark was what I looked for in a man.
yesterday I would have told you I wasn't looking for a
man. And then today, Well, I realized I just spent
the better part of my adolescent years crushing on an
alien. I think I'll stick with a nice smile and a
    sense of humor."

    Lex laughed hard. "Good answer."

"What do you look for in a woman Lex. 100% off the
record." She let her eyes open halfway, staring at
him as he pulled one of her feet out from under him
and started to slowly rub the arch with his thumb. "A
week ago I would have told you a doctor. Yesterday I
would have told you a brunette with a short skirt and
long legs. And then today, Well, today I became
better acquainted with a blonde spunky teen full of
angst and witty remarks. So I think I'll pass on the
brunettes for the time being and concentrate on this
new found friendship." He smiled over at her and she
returned it with one of her own 100 watters.

    "Why brunettes?" Chloe asked hesitantly.

Lex smiled at her. "I don't only date brunettes."

    Chloe arched an eyebrow. "Okay..."

"But yes, I primarily date darker haired women."
Chloe sat up a little bit letting Lex keep a hold of
    her foot.

"But why? So far they've ended up being nothing but
trouble. Why don't you go after a blonde or a
    redhead?"

Lex looked at Chloe seriously. "Because I'm not ready
    to settle down."

Chloe layed back down on the couch. "Oh."

Lex smiled over at her eyes that were closed. "Why do
you only go after meteor freaks?"

Chloe shushed him. "I've had a really long Monday.
Can we save this discussion for later?" Lex ran his
nails down the inside of her foot. Her foot arched
and he let go of it.

"Over dinner." She nodded in agreement and fell fast
asleep. It had been 3 and a half hours since the time
they left the plant. Lex heard a knock on the door,
snapping him out of his mental checklist of what had
    happened that day.

"Come in." he responded loud enough for the person to
hear but soft enough as to not wake up Chloe.

    "Hey, Le---"

"Clark." Lex smiled and brushed his hand over Chloe's
    foot.

She stirred but didn't open her eyes.

"Umm, why is Chloe laying on your couch with her feet
    in your lap."

"I owed her a foot massage."

    "Why?" Clark asked hesitantly.

"We had a busy day and she blamed it on me, since I
    was the navigator."

"Oh." Clark looked thoughtful which Lex had to scoff
at. 'Maybe I should just tell him we just got done
having a nice little romp on the rug he's digging his
toes into. Besides what's one lie of mine, compared
to each and every one of his' "So what'd you two do
    today."

Chloe's eyes fluttered open. "NOW, who's talking?"
her eyes met Lex's and followed his gaze to Clark.
"Oh." She rolled over onto her side and sat up.
"Hey, Clark." She lazily and with all her might
trying to look sexy, crawled along the length of the
couch to Lex who was staring at her with a smirk on
his face. She grabbed his hand and looked down at the
time. "Wake me up for dinner." She smiled and laid
back down with her head resting in his lap.

"Will do." Lex replied running a hand through her
hair staring down at the action, feeling Clark's eyes
watching his hand also. "So was there something you
    wanted to tell me Clark?"

Clark stepped back towards the door. "I see you two
are busy. I'll come back another time."

Lex nodded and watched as he shut the door. "You're
bad." He said down to Chloe. Her eyes popped open
    and she grinned.

"I know." She sat upright and smiled at him. "Was he
mad?" Lex let out a strain of laughter.

"You should have seen the look on his face..."

    Chapter 8:

Chloe sat indian style on the top of the dining room
table with Lex. "Why are we not using the chairs
    again?"

Chloe sighed. "Because, you, Lex, need to explore the
possibilities. Have you ever not sat down to eat?"

Lex shook his head. "I can't believe I'm sitting on
*top* of my very expensive marble dining table."

Chloe glanced over at him, silently chewing on a crab
rangoon. "And what the hell is that thing?" He
motioned to the pastry in her hand with the sludgy
    mixture oozing out.

Chloe's eyes widened in horror. "You mean, you don't
know?" Her look of astonishment hung onto her
features for dear life. "fucking incredible...wonders
cease to amaze..." She muttered as she licked off the
cheesy filling dripping from it and held it out for
    Lex to bite into.

He narrowed his eyes and closed them briefly taking a
big bite of the rangoon. Chloe smiled at the low moan
sounding off in the back of his throat. "Good, huh?"

He nodded and kept his eyes closed. "How did I miss
this?" He opened his eyes and stole one from the bag
in front of her. She grinned at him.

She popped the rest of hers into her mouth. She poked
at the air in front of him with a teryaki chicken
stick. "A very rare indulgence. Crab rangoons must
not be taken for granted. I only allow myself to have
them when I absolutely deserve them."

Lex nodded and spooned rice into his mouth with his
chopsticks, Chloe's eyes danced while watching him.
    "So, Lex. What happens now?"

She eyed him skeptically as he took a large gulp of
the beer sitting beside him. "Well, we can play with
his mind a little bit, say you jump off the roof of
the barn while we're standing at the bottom. When he
catches you, he'd hardly be able to blame it on
    adrenaline."

Chloe snickered at his last statement. "You still
    want to know?"

Lex cocked an eyebrow and placed his chopsticks on the
table in front of him grabbing for the last crab
rangoon, a little surprised she let him take it.
"About what?" He slowly bit into the crab rangoon
watching her eyes watch his mouth. He grinned as he
    chewed slowly.

Her eyes concentrated on his lips and she smirked,
forming a plan in her mind. "Me being attracted to
meteor freaks." She licked her lips and bit down
softly on her bottom lip. She leaned on her hands,
still not taking her eyes off his lips. His eyes not
leaving her movements. "I guess I'm just drawn to the
eccentric." She licked her lips again, too close to
his and just as his mouth opened she turned her head
and bit into the pastry his hand held freely.

She smiled at the look on his face. Clearly, he had
taken the bait and she won. 'Hee-hee.' she silently
congratulated herself as she chewed thoughtfully on
her bite. Lex popped the rest in his mouth and smiled
down at her. "Eccentric huh?" He watched as her eyes
    grew curious.

"Well, not intentionally. Maybe it's not me drawn to
them. Maybe it's them drawn to me." her voice
cracked with sour witticism and she grinned over at
Lex. "On a totally different note, though, I have to
get home. I may be on Spring Break, but my dad's
going to drill me after spending all day with you."

She hopped down from the table and to her surprise Lex
    didn't move.

"Hello?" she grinned from ear to ear. "You drove."

His eyes cleared in realization and he dug through his
pants pocket, still seated on the table, his hands
felt the cold metal. "Ah-ha" Lex exclaimed and
tossed the set of keys to Chloe. "Sorry, but you're
on your own. My chauffer's out tonight and I still
have a conference call in ten minutes." Chloe nodded
    an acceptance to his apology.

    "Insurance?"

    "Fully covered."

Chloe grinned. "Hey, Lex." Chloe walked backwards
from his view when she reached the doorway he felt his
    heart jump in his throat.

"Chloe." He mocked her tone putting some of the trash
away in the brown bag they had given them home to it.

"I think this is the beginning of a beauftiful
friendship." She turned and walked out.

    Chapter 9:

It was not quite dark yet when Chloe pulled up in front of her house.
She turned off the lights of her 'borrowed' car and twirled the keys
around her finger as she let herself into the house.

"Dad! I'm home!" She called out. Clark sat beside Lana on the
couch. "Oh, hey guys." She walked into the kitchen grabbing a glass
    of water.

"Dinner's in the microwave." Lana replied gesturing to the
    contraption above the stove.

"Oh, thanks but I already ate at Lex's." Chloe popped an aspirin into
her mouth and swallowed the water eagerly. Her cell phone rang and
she pulled it out of her bag bringing it to her ear. "Hello?"

    "Ahh, there it is."

Chloe's eyes darted around the room. "There what is?"

    "My phone."

She pulled the cell phone in her hand away from her ear and grinned.
"Sorry." She apologized for having picked up the wrong phone.

"It's quite alright. Hey, the meeting was cancelled. If you aren't
in too much trouble why don't we meet at the Talon in twenty. We can
start plotting how to make Clark weep before us."

A grin swept over her face. "I like the way you think, Luthor. I'll
see you then." She flipped the phone shut and Lana arched an eyebrow.
    Clark sat completely quiet.

Chloe put the phone back in her bag and headed upstairs. "I'm meeting
Lex at the Talon in twenty minutes, do you know where my dad is?"

Lana cleared her throat. "He's in bed, long day at work, I think."
    Yelling up to Chloe.

Chloe's head peeked into her dad's room. "hey." She said quietly.

Gabe's eyes turned to hers. "hey there yourself. Have fun getting to
    know Lex?"

She grinned wickedly. "We have a lot more in common than I thought."
She nodded and stood in the doorway. "I'm actually off to meet him
at the Talon in a few, that okay?"

Gabe smiled. "Chloe, honey, just...Just let me know when this becomes
    serious between you two."

Chloe nodded in agreement. "You do know we're just friends right?"

Gabe shrugged. "Even so. If you two decide to take it any further,
let me be the first to know."

Her grin widened into a blinding smile. "I promise you'll be the
first to hear all the lovely details." She winked and closed his
door. 'Yeah, right. Me and Lex.' She giggled a little. 'Like
    that'll ever happen.'

    *~*

Chloe sat across from Lex in a booth. "So how should we do this. I
really don't want to take a chance jumping off the roof of a barn."

Lex smirked. "Afraid the farmboy won't save you?"

Chloe returned his smirk and sipped on her coffee. "Kinda. I mean,
why would he risk it if you were there?"

    "Risk what?"

Chlow jumped at the sound of Clark's voice and then relaxed again as
the smirk didn't clear from Lex's face.

"It's not important. So, Clark, how's farm life treating you."

Clark nodded and took a seat next to Lex. "Fine. Same as always."

Chloe rolled her eyes as Lana walked over to their table. "Here we
go." She muttered and Lex took notice of how Clark watched Lana weave
    in and out of tables.

"You do realize she does it to taunt you." Lex spoke clearly and
Chloe tried to hide a grin. "It's obvious she knows you're watching
her. Every little swish of her hips, the seductive way she glances
back over here. It's because she wants you, Clark. I say go for it."

Chloe hid a small laugh by choking on her drink. She wiped the excess
coffee from the corner of her mouth and smiled at Lex. 'Bravo.' She
    though inwardly. 'The teasing begins.'

Lex leaned further into Clark. "You know if she were a little older,
I'd already have her." Chloe's eyes perked up playfully, a little
jealous but concentrating more on the 'older' part. She was obviously
too young for Lex. Clark's gaze ripped away from Lana's body
    movements and settled on Lex.

    "You like Lana?"

Lex smirked. "I don't necessarily like her, but I don't dislike her
either. It's a brunette thing." he shrugged and felt Chloe shooting
    daggers his way.

"I thought we talked about the whole brunette thing." Chloe leaned
forward resting her head in her hands propped up by her elbows.

"And I believe I gave you my explanation." Lex retorted in a way too
    civil manner.

"And here I thought the two of you..." Clark's voice trailed off as
    Chloe grinned at him.

"Lex has a problem when it comes to hair color, if you haven't
noticed. There's no way he's go for a blonde, and there's no way I'd
dye my hair." Lex nudged her leg under the table with his foot. She
    nudged him back.

"So Clark, have you decided whether you're going to make a move?" Lex
asked casually. "How old is she again? 17 right?"

Clark turned his head to look over at Lana and Lex playfully winked at
Chloe. She hid her smile behind her cup.

    "Yea, she just turned it."

Lex nodded and motioned for Lana to come over to the table.

"Can I get you guys anything?"

"Lana, how would you feel if Clark were to ask you for your company on
    a date?" Lex asked assuringly.

"Ummm..." She rolled a peice of hair between her fingers. "I guess
    that'd be nice."

Clark blushed furiously and excused himself from the table leaving
Lana there with Lex and Chloe. Lana looked between the two people
    both wth serious expressions.

"Maybe you should ask him." Chloe offered. Lana narrowed her eyes at
her blonde roommate and stalked away.

"Well, there goes one of his weaknesses."

Chloe snickered at Lex's mental note to himself.

"So you think we should put her in a 'situation' and see if he comes
to rescue her?" Chloe smiled viciously over at Lex.

Lex eyed her. "I do like the way you think, Sullivan." Aping what
she had said earlier to him.

Chloe smiled into her drink. "Great minds, Lex. Great minds..."

    Chapter 10: Exposed

Tuesday Morning Chloe made her way through the busy
Metropolis streets. With Lex's car she got a little
attention, but this wasn't about attention, she had a
plan that needed to be formulated and put into action.
Her and Lex had stayed up most of the night at the
Talon, even after Lana cleaned up and went home, they
stayed talking until 3 am. Monday had definitely been
a long day. The decision they'd reached? Lana was
going to be the bait. And plenty of video cameras
    would be around.

Chloe mentioned something to Lex about not feeling so
good so she went home, figuring it had to be lack of
sleep. When she woke in the morning, she barely made
her way to the bathroom when everything she had eaten
for the past month resurfaced. Those damn nerves of
hers. Her thoughts had reflected on the fact that
maybe trying to trap Clark and catch him on his own
turf was wrong. But he was hiding a very big secret
    from them.

So that morning Chloe had traveled into Metropolis and
finished up the research for her upcoming headliner
article about the woman housing all the pigeons this
side of the equator. Plus she somehow spoke with
them. She had tape recorded the woman gobbling and
sqwaking at the birds and they seemed to either repeat
what she said or they'd made random noises back to
    her.

"Whatcha doin?" Clark sat down across from her and
she lowered the headphones she had on.

"What?" She tilted her head to the side.

"I just asked what you were doin." Clark smiled big
at her. Her eyes rolled and fixed on a figure
stalking towards them. Lex slid into the booth beside
her when he could have just as easily taken the seat
    beside Clark, acro

So that morning Chloe had traveled into Metropolis and
finished up the research for her upcoming headliner
article about the woman housing all the pigeons this
side of the equator. Plus she somehow spoke with
them. She had tape recorded the woman gobbling and
sqwaking at the birds and they seemed to either repeat

    her.

"Whatcha doin?" Clark sat down across from her and
she lowered the headphones she had on.

"What?" She tilted her head to the side.

"I just asked what you were doin." Clark smiled big
at her. Her eyes rolled and fixed on a figure
stalking towards them. Lex slid into the booth beside
her when he could have just as easily taken the seat
    beside Clark, across from her.

"So, are you done with your project?" Lex's right
hand rest on Chloe's knee and she moved it slightly
    closer to him.

She nodded and ignored Clark's look. "Yeah, it was
really weird. The pigeon lady, listen." She slipped
the headphones on over Lex's ear and hit the play
button. He sipped on his coffee and looked thoughtful
before nodding and she slipped them back off.

"Interesting." He agreed. "It's almost like she were
conversating with them." Chloe drank the rest of her
coffee and reached for Lex's. A long hard gulp
rewarded her with all of Clark's attention.

"Mind if I listen?" Clark took the headphones and
placed them on his ears and heard the strange noises
and clucking and hit the stop button.

"Amazing, isn't it?" Lex said looking from Chloe to
Clark. "Isn't it interesting how two species can
    interact so peacefully?"

Chloe grinned and took another sip of Lex's coffee.
Clark pushed his towards her. "I'm done with mine if
    you want to kill it."

Chloe glanced up at Clark and realized what she had
been doing. "Oh, I'm sorry Lex."

He waved it off. "I owe you for the rangoons."

She grinned and patted his arm. "You're right, you
    owe me."

"Rangoons?" Clark asked and Chloe heard the hint of
jealousy lurking there in his voice.

"Lex and I had rangoons last night for dinner."

    "Impeccable."

"Yeah, I know." Clark muttered and Lex looked over at
    him.

    "You too?"

Chloe hid a chuckle and excused herself for the
    bathroom.

Minutes later when she emerged she walked back over to
the table. "Lex." She stood beside him.

He looked up at her and saw the pale shade of green
her face was slowly but surely turning. "Chloe?" He
stood up and put his hand on her cheek then around to
the back of her neck. "My, god, you're burning up."
Just as he said it the stack of napkins on the table
burst into flames. Clark jumped back from the table
and looked at Chloe whose eyes were shut tight, the
palms of her hands pressing down on her eyelids hard.

Lex pulled her into him. "It's okay, I've got you."
Clark watched in amazement. Had she really just set
that fire with one quick blink. 'No, that would mean
she were exposed to the meteor shower.' Clark's mind
raced a million miles a minute in one way while Lex's
    raced in the other.

'It must have happened when she touched the
spaceship.' He rocked her steadily and hadn't
realized Lana had already dumped a vase of water on
the small fire. She watched on as Lex rocked a
sweating Chloe. Dialling 911, she watched as Chloe
turned and ran to the bathroom and Lex right after
her. "What the hell was that all about?" She asked
as Clark looked over at her.

    "I have no idea."

    Chapter 11: So Close...

A/N Contains spoilers up to season two in present time.

The bathroom got smaller and smaller and her head swam with the nausea
that plagued her, her eyes stayed closed tightly. She opened them
once more and saw a skeleton beside her. her mouth hung open as
    everything came into focus. "Lex?"

He rubbed her back and held her hair as she turned and looked into his
eyes. "Yeah, it's okay." Clark burst into the bathroom and Chloe
layed her head down on the toilet seat.

"We need to talk." the words tumbled out of his mouth before he
    focused in on Lex. "Alone."

Lex moved from his sqautting position to indian style behind Chloe.
"He stays." Chloe said before leaning over the toilet, throwing up
    again.

Clark shifted uncomfortably. His eyes narrowed as she clutched her
stomach and heaved forward again. "Are you pregnant?" Her head shot
    up at his accusatory words.

    "Clark, that's ridiculous."

"Sorry, it's just that my mom has the whole morning sickness thing too."

Lex smirked looking up at him. "You do realize that it's no longer
    morning."

Chloe shivered and could feel the heat and sweat rolling off her body.
"God, I feel like crap." She wiped her mouth with the toilet paper
Lex handed forward to her and leaned back onto his lap. "I really,
    really don't feel good."

"How did you get heat vision?"

Chloe and Lex's head snapped up in his direction. "How...what?" Her
voice cracked a little and shut her eyes tight. "What the hell is
    going on?"

Lex leaned forward and wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her
back to him tight. "It's okay." He whispered in her ear.

"NO, it's NOT okay. I keep seeing skeletons. Would someone please
explain that to me?" Her head swam with signs and ancient markings.
"Oh, jesus, I belong on my own wall of weird." She sighed and wrapped
her arms around herself, resting them on Lex's.

    "Ske-skeletons?" Clark's eyes widened. "It's xray."

Chloe shook her head lightly and decided it was a bad idea. "What?
    What's xray?"

Lex looked up at Clark. 'He's going to do it. He's going to admit to
    his secret.'

"Nothing...nevermind." Clark turned and walked out the door. Chloe
    curled up into Lex's lap.

"We almost had him." She grinned up at him before a headache ripped
through her and she winced at the pain.

"Yeah, almost, but now, I think we should get you to the hospital."
    Chloe nodded.

    "Good idea."

    *~*

Gabe sat in silence as Lex paced the waiting room.

The doctor approached them and held out his hand to Lex. "Doctor
Davidson." Her hand clasped his and she let go immediately. "We have
an interesting turn about. You're the father?" Her eyes wandered
past the man in front of her to the tired one slumped in the chair.

"Is she okay?" Gabe asked sitting up a little.

"She's not in a very good mood and she refuses to open her eyes. She
claims to have a headache but we've given her medicine and nothing
seems to be helping. She has the symptoms of the common flu."

"Headache and nausea." Lex said quietly earning an affirmative nod
from the doctor in front of him. "Could it be anything else?"

"As of right now, we're looking into a few possibilities, but she also
said the nausea started last night and the headache didn't start until
today. We'd like to keep her overnight, Mr Sullivan."

Gabe nodded. "Can I see her please?"

The doctor smiled. "Actually, I think it would be best if her
boyfriend went in first, they have something important to discuss."
    Gabe looked up at Lex.

"Boyfriend?" He questioned silently and amused. "This is a joke right?"

Lex looked from the doctor to Gabe. "I swear to you, Gabe, we are not
    dating."

Gabe nodded. "What kind of drugs exactly did you put her on?"

    *~*

Lex followed a nurse into Chloe's room. "Feeling better?"

She opened her eyes and looked up at Lex. "We need to talk."

His smirk widened. "Yeah, what's with the boyfriend comment."

"I had to tell her something, Lex. I'm pregnant." She blurted it out
before thinking about what she was saying.

His knees went weak, he distinctly remembered Chloe telling him that
    she was a virgin. "When?"

    "I don't know. I don't know how, I don't know when, I don't know who.
I'm the @#%$ virgin Mary for Christ's sake."

"Maybe Jesus was an alien." He sat beside her trying to lighten her mood.

Her fale paled and her body stiffened. "You don't think the spaceship..."

"Impregnated you? Come on, Chloe, even that's a little too weird for
    the wall."

"I don't know, when I touched it, it obviously gave me some freaky ass
powers, why couldn't it impregnate me?"

"Because it happened yesterday, doesn't it take longer than that to
    find out if you're pregnant?"

"They said I must be atleast four weeks along."

Lex ran a hand over his head. "fuck, Chloe."

She covered her face with her hands. "What the hell am I going to
    tell my dad?"

    "The truth."

Both Lex and Chloe looked over to the doorway where Gabe stood with
his arms over his chest. "You knocked up my daughter?"

    Chapter 12: Promises...

Chloe stared at the little black dots splattered along
the white tiles of the ceiling. Little yellow stains
absorbed into the corners of some of the older slats.
A hand hung loosely around hers and she tried to move
hers out of it but the grip tightened considerably.
"Lex." She attempted to pry her fingers out of his.
He sat carelessly in a chair beside her bed, his
forhead leaned onto the starchy sheets of her mattress
and his breathing coming in shallow breaths. His
fingers around her small ones, holding on for dear
life. 'What the hell did I do to deserve this?' She
looked over at Lex's still body, the arch of his back
from the chair to his neck smooth and steadily rising.
Her eyes fluttered close before she ripped her hand
out of his, her body tensing and recoiling as she felt
her innards shift. A shrieked cry muffled as she bit
    her lip hard.

Since visitors hours had been over her body was
changing. She felt her uterus compacting and her ribs
hurt like all hell. Still as she moaned in protest to
life form growing too rapidly inside of her Lex stayed
asleep. Finally she blinked and the light was too
much, her eyes slid shut and the swell of her breasts
made her bite her lip too hard, she felt her teeth cut
into her bottom lip and the tears roll down her face.
    She couldn't stand the pain.

As another tidal wave of pain receded she breathed
deeply feeling the oxygen sting her lungs. Just as
quickly as the sharp needling pain ended another wave
began and she lifted her fist above Lex's head
bringing it down hard on the backside of his hand,
    resting just beside his face.

"@#%$!" His head sprang up from the sheets and was
about to let out another strand of better placed curse
words when he looked at the still form beside him.
"Chloe?" He whispered and her eyes darted over to
him, the tears running rapidly down her cheek.

"Help." She strangled out in a small voice. Lex
kicked back the chair and bolted out of the room
returning just seconds later with a nurse.

After checking her vitals and giving her some non
aspirin tylenol for the pain, she left the room. Lex
looked down at her and felt his insides twist
together. She was in so much pain, and he knew it.
He wanted to be the one in the bed, laying there
helpless. Anything to make her better. The clock
above her bed told him it was early am. "Have you
slept?" he said as he stroked her hair.

She glared at him and if he hadn't known what was
already wrong, he would have shuddered at what could
have been the most evil expression he'd seen cross her
face. "Does it look like I've @#%$ slept?" She
ran a hand dramatically through her hair. "Didn't
think so." She tried to roll over onto her side but
the IV pulled at her. Lex slipped his hands under her
back and pulled her closer to the edge of the bed.
Walking around the side he slipped into the bed behind
her, spooning against her. She managed to get onto
her side and faced away from him. Her back pressed
neatly into his front, locking her in place. His arm
timidly draped over her and she watched the muscles in
his forearm tense up. She stretched against his front
side and sighed. She knew she wasn't going to go
through this alone, and while she was thankful, in
more ways than one she wished it hadn't been Lex
Luthor in that cornfield with her.

She felt as though she owed him too much already, her
feelings starting to come into play. But worse of
all, her father's face stretched over her closed
    eyelids. "The Truth."

Chloe felt the tears roll down her face, seeping into
the pillow beneath her head. The look on his face
changed dramatically after she had told him the truth.
A look of disbeleif. Lex had just stood back shaking
his head. She had told him that if he didn't believe
her she could get an internal and it would show she
    was still a virgin.

Even after the doctors had confirmed her statement he
didn't believe it. It tore at her heart that
something so @#%$ out there, that could happen to
her, couldn't even be fathomable by her own father,
the one person that was supposed to love and trust her
unconditonally. It was unfathomable and just plain
    @#%$ crazy.

That was his actual response after being informed by
the doctor that she was indeed a virgin and that she
was also pregnant. How the two could even
coexist..."That's @#%$ crazy." She heard his words
bounce off the back of her brain and when a strong
sense of calmness came over her she turned her head to
look at Lex. His eyes open to hers. 'Had he been
awake this whole time she had laid here daydreaming?'

"Wanna talk?" His voice deep and husky against her
ear as she turned and looked away.

"Bout what?" Her own voice came out hoarse and the
machines sprang to life, echoing a dangerous beep
around her. Damn that pulse rate machine. She felt
his smirk behind her and couldn't help but think how
sexy he was when he did that. And up went her pulse
    again.

"Where the @#%$ is that plug?" She reached her hand
over and shut off the machine.

"Care to talk about that?" She could hear the
    smugness in his voice.

"No." Simply said and yet he had to push it.

"Was that reaction from me?" Lex let his long
delicate fingers splay across the flat of her stomach.

"Look, okay, I'm hormonal so kill me, besides that,
don't flatter yourself." She almost moaned when his
hand started making circular patterns against the
cotton of her hospital gown, glad that she was covered
by the sheet and that his resting body hadn't bothered
to get under with her, he just pinned down the sheets
on his own side and sprawled himself upon them.

"We still need to talk." He muttered under his
breath, trying not to push his luck.

    "About what Lex?"

    "Names."

Her eyes closed breifly. "Mother @#%$!" Her words
rang out into the hallway as the pain hit her at once
and Lex sat up straight nearly falling off the bed at
her threatening tone and the fetal position she had
    balled into.

A nurse ran into the room and looked over at Lex's
retreating form as he moved back over to the chair
beside the bed, brushing strands of hair off of her
forhead. He watched as her eyelids flitted and her
back arched off the bed in one swift movement. Her
body raised above the bed, one foot, then two and
Lex's eyes rose with it, he stood as she hovered
higher and higher. She let out a yowling pain and
fell to the bed, his arms stretched out and caught her
halfway from beneath her back. He slowly lowered her
back to the bed and the nurse stood beside the heart
rate machine trembling as she turned it back on.

Chloe's heartrate had nearly doubled but the wide eyed
panic he was sure had crossed his face moments earlier
now resided on the nurses pale face. Her features
gaped open, eyes wide, mouth open, nostrils flared.
Chloe's arms reached out and grabbed Lex startling
him. "I need ice cream!" She screamed and he arched
    an eyebrow.

    "With or without pickles?"

    Chapter 13

Sunday morning Lex found himself curled against the back of Chloe, her
body pressed gently into his. It had been nearly a week and he hadn't
been able to leave her alone yet.

Sometimes he felt his eyes were deceiving him. Her body seemed to
grow with each minute. One second his eyes would close, just to blink
and he'd open them again to find her stomach had swollen just a bit
more. She had begged and pleaded with him to let her keep it. Why
him? He had no clue. He hadn't gotten into a conversation with her
over any options. The day after her floating incident she had become
quite insistent that abortion and adoption were completely out of the
picture. He had no more than agreed when she flung herself off the
bed into his arms where he stood by the bathroom door.

Slowly and surely he had moved into the hospital room, day by day
bringing things from home to help them both settle in. But today,
today was different. He couldn't tell, he could only feel. Her
heartbeat against his palm that lay lightly on her stomach. He could
tell it was hers and not the baby's. He had been listening to it for
the past few days. The monitor matching it perfectly. Looking down
at her now as he rested on one of his elbows, his other arm draped
over her stomach and his hand resting over her belly button, he wanted
to be nowhere else. He felt at home. In a hospital. With Chloe.
And the life form inside of her.

'Life Form' he thought and grinned. She had called it that a few days
ago but when he did she'd remind him that it was a baby. 'A baby
what?' he had retorted. Chloe had simply shrugged. His mind drifted
as he began to rub her stomach gingerly and heard her moan softly into
    the pillow beside her head.

It drifted first to Gabe. He had been to see her every day, sometimes
walking with her through the hallways, sometimes pushing her around in
her wheelchair when she'd have an 'episode' or so she called it. He
had finally began to forgive Lex, whom he still thought 'knocked up'
his daughter. His own words of course. Lex hadn't admitted to it,
yet never denied it either. Chloe didn't seem to mind either way.
Whenever Gabe brought up the conversation of marriage, Chloe's eyes
would go somewhere else, along with her thoughts. He could tell she'd
escaped into another dimension by the faraway expression. All in all
though, Gabe, coming to grips with a reality that his daughter was
impregnated by his boss, was easier for him to believe than his
daughter becoming impregnated by a spaceship. So they left it be.

Clark was another story. Clark only called, didn't come by at all.
he would talk to Chloe for only minutes at a time and when she'd hang
up he could tell that little place she held in her heart for all
things farmboy were slowly demoralizing and drifting away. He saw the
way her eyes would drift again to that somewhere far off place and
knew she'd probably never look at Clark the same again. Lex, himself,
had only ran into him twice. Both times at the Talon where Clark was
busying himself with helping Lana out. Not that Lex really cared.
The more time Clark spent with Lana, the less time Chloe had to put up
with his @#%$. And that's exactly what all the rants and raves on
Clark's part had been to Lex, complete and utter @#%$. He would call
one day, telling her he missed her, then the next with an 'I told you
so.' The last straw was to come that day...but right then Lex didn't
know it. He wouldn't know it until after the unltrasound scheduled
for this afternoon. Precautionary safety measures and all.

Lana had been a bit more understanding. Although she didn't believe
the spaceship story either, and Clark did, she believed Lex had done
this to Chloe, and although she'd never say the words to his face when
she'd come to visit daily, he figured it had something to do with
being business partners. He had the upperhand. She was the one that
would suffer if she got on his bad side. And while Lex liked to think
of himself as a bigger person than that, he knew he wasn't He knew
one snide remark from Lana Lang would have him closing the Talon in a
heartbeat. It wasn't for himself either. It was complete
selflessness. It would be for the sake of Chloe and what those harsh
words said in front of her would do.

Pete. God where to start. Pete had been the biggest surprise of them
all. Friday night he stayed with Chloe, and although he left early in
the morning on Saturday, he came back each day to talk to her, bring
her a book or tell her what was going on outside in the real world.
Not once did he mention the pregnancy, or Lex, or the spaceship. None
of that bothered Lex. He thought it showed a different side to the
man who hadn't been so terribly generous towards him. When he saw Lex
in the hospital room with Chloe, her hands wrapped tightly in his,
he'd just smile a little and enter the room. Lex would make himself
scarce or they'd sit down and play 'Go fish.' He'd had no idea that
it was one of Chloe's favorite games. Mainly because there was no way
to cheat. And possibly because she always won.

Chloe had been a ball of energy after the first day of being in the
hospital. She bounced off the walls and got outside to walk around
the courtyard of Smallville General. She glowed at best and worst and
she smiled constantly. That one night after the demand of icecream,
and after Lex complied, bringing a half gallon of butter pecan to her
she had simply shook her head and laughed and fed not only herself but
him also. Looking back on it now, 5 days ago. He had a feeling it
was then, when he watched the icecream fall off the spoon and land on
her hand, as she brough the creamy substance to her south and licked
it off, that he had fallen. Not in love so to say, but in a deep deep
like of the woman laying beside him. His thoughts dimmed out as he
felt her elbow dig into his ribs.

"hey." She said up to him, his face loomed inches from her. Their
eyes unwavering as they stared eachother down.

"Morning." he replied and kissed her forhead.

"Already?" She hadn't been sleeping well. She had told him that she
felt as though she'd taken a cat nap when in fact she'd been sleeping
for close to 8 hours at a time. It was strange to him considering 24
hours their time, was like a month of pregnancy in some other world,
on some other planet. "When's do we find out?"

A grin curled at his lips. She'd been talking about it nonstop since
he'd hired his own specialists who were a bit more openminded than the
ones working here, and he had set an appointment. "two more hours."

She smiled and leaned up brushing her lips across his cheek. His
heartbeat gathered inside him. This was as close to intimate they had
been. Flighting kisses here and there, kissing cheeks and forheads,
nowhere else. While he wanted to claim those full lips of hers,
especially when she pouted, he knew it wouldn't be a good idea. She
was possibly the only person he had ever trusted with every fiber
inside him, and if that was taken away, if he opened his heart to her,
he knew it would end horribly.

    "So...have we thought of names?"

    "I was thinking Luthor."

Chloe gasped. "Hell. No." She stated firmly and he chuckled.

"Oh, you meant first names?" She elbowed him again, more playfully
this time and he paled as her face turned green.

"I'm uhh...I'm gonna..." She leaned over the bed and hurled into the
wastebasket as Lex held her waist, keeping her from toppling over.
The morning sickness happened once in the morning and once at night.
Much better now than it had been the first day or so. "better." She
sighed as she sat up and lex handed her a peice of gum out of his
    chirt pocket.

"I always wondered what billionaires in their mid twenties kept in
their shirt pockets." She grinned and blew a bubble. "So what else
you keep stashed in there?" A perfectly plucked eyebrow, thanks to
Lana yesterday, rose to the occasion. "Well?"

"Just the usual, gum, condom, you know, the basics." Chloe smiled
broadly at his joke. The doctor had given him a condom and he had
placed it in his shirt pocket. "It's a little late for that, don't ya
think?" Chloe had told the doctor and he left the room abruptly. Lex
    smiled at that memory.

"Talkative much?" She turned on her side and propped her head up.
"Is the cesarian going to hurt?" Her face all of a sudden worried
    with her question.

"I think they'll knock you out first. Give you some good drugs.
Recooping will probably hurt a little but nothing too bad." Chloe
smiled and nodded at his words.

    "Thanks."

Lex brushed his lips against hers. "Chloe..." He was cut off as she
pressed her lips to his, softly running her tongue against his top
lip. She pulled back. "Lex." She stated as her eyes remained closed
and his opened as the door opened.

"Ms Sullivan, Mr Luthor, proud parents to be, we were wondering if
you'd like to jump into an earlier slot, we had a cancellation."

Chloe nodded and sat up, She scooted off the side of the bed and
leaned against the bed. "Chair?" Lex asked quietly. She shook her
    head no.

    "I'm good."

Lex let an arm go around her shoulder as she did the same to his
    waist. "Shall we?"

Chloe grinned remembering the first day almost a week ago when they
headed out to lunch. "We shall."

    Chapter 14: It's a...

Lex helped Chloe up on to the table...she looked
reluctantly at Lex and he turned around as she pulled
her shirt off over her head, when she settled back
down the doctor draped a light cloth over her chest.
When Lex turned back around he walked over to the
bedside and grabbed Chloe's hand. The doctor applied
a glop of jelly on the top of her stomach.

Lex knelt beside the table looking at her
reassuringly. He had made sure it was one of his
doctors to do the ultrasound just in case things
didn't appear quite normal. As the green glow from
the machine in front of them lit up the room eerily, a
gelatinous blob was being rubbed all over Chloe's
stomach. He grinned at her, his head level with her
he rested his chin on the table.

Chloe gasped when a skeletal figure came onto the
screen. "Sweetie, it's okay, it's supposed to look
    like that."

"Miss Sullivan, this is an ultrasound machine, it
feeds us the information we need in order to tell that
the baby is healthy, five fingers, five toes, etc."

She nodded. "Sorry it just looks a little..."

"like an alien?" Lex finished with a smirk. She
nodded her head in agreement and the doctor flipped
another switch in which the set across from them lit
up with a blue powdery color, mixing with the green.
A 3d image filled the screen and Chloe stared in
    amazement. "That's..."

"That's your baby." The doctor smiled and Chloe's
    eyes started to tear.

"Lex..." She whispered softly and squeezed his hand.

When she heard no reply she looked over at him. His
chin rested on the bed and his eyes were filled with
tears and wonder. "Lex." She said a little louder
but still in a soft voice. He blinked and turned to
look at her, a tear escaping him. "Chloe." His voice
was choked and he struggled with a smile.

She pulled him closer to her and kissed his lips
sweetly. She tasted the salt from his tear on his
lips. "And it's a healthy, five fingered five toed
human baby." The doctor grinned, after all he'd been
filled in on the situation and he had to admit
stranger things had happened, like seeing Lex Luthor
cry. "Oh, my, umm I think you two need to take a look
at this." The doctor made his voice as serious as
possible. Chloe's head turned and she saw the screen
light up with three little words. The tears cascaded
down her face and Lex got up and pulled her into his
    arms.

"It's a GIRL!" She shrieked and laughed pulling him
closer it her. "We're going to have a girl."

He pulled away a little and looked back at the screen,
against a pink backdrop those words challenged him.
So many things passed through his mind at that moment.
Would she grow up like Clark? Will people compare
her features to him and Chloe? Will she call them
mommy and daddy without them being married? Married.
Lex reflected on those words and looked down at Chloe.
Who would have custody? Would they live together?
Would she give up her dream of becoming a reporter for
the sake of their illegitimate not to mention alien
    child?

"She's beautiful." Chloe sighed and smiled, her smile
soon fell from the conflicted look on Lex's face.
    "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I ummm, just need some air." Lex lied and
squeezed her hand before letting it fall. "I'll be
back." He heard the last lie come out of his mouth.
He rubbed at his eyes as he paced back and forth in
    the hallway.

Chloe watched as Lex distanced himself and she felt
her tears of joy slip away into anger and
disappointment. She could feel him lying to her. He
wasn't coming back. He was running scared. And she
    knew why.

    *~*

She hadn't been surprised that Lex hadn't returned
Sunday night and school started this morning. Spring
Break was officially over and she still sat in the
hospital. Her feet were folded up under her. Her
hands rested on her stomach and she stared out the
window at the clouds passing by.

"Chloe?" She closed her eyes and pretended not to
hear his voice. "Can I come in."

Leaning her head back she shrugged, "sure why not."

"So is it a boy or a girl?"

Chloe looked at Clark, his still form just inside the
    door. "Girl." She replied dryly.

Clark smiled. "I wanted to tell you something."

Chloe arched a brow. "Now? You want to tell me
    something now?"

Clark walked towards her and he reached the bed and
sat down. "My name, well, you know what I'm talking
    about." Chloe nodded in agreement.

"Tell me Clark, what's your kryptonian name?" She
cocked her head to the side and saw a shock spread
    across his features.

    "How..."

"Hello? A spaceship impregnated me after I touched
it, it's not like I straddled it and said 'Give it to
me baby.' I touched it and a light passed through me,
plus I opened it and read the message inside."

Clark nodded as if trying to follow the stream of
words running over her lips. "So what's your freak
    name?" She grinned at him.

    "Kal-el."

Chloe arched her brows. "Huh. Interesting." She
smiled and looked down at the baby books covering her
sheets. "I haven't found anything yet."

Clark nodded. "Where's Lex?" he looked around the
room a little surprised not to see his once best
    friend there.

    "He left yesterday."

    "Ahh, work."

    "No. Life."

    "What?" Clark asked questioningly.

"Nothing." She saw the apology for Lex's actions on
the verge of Clark's tongue. "Don't apologize for him.
If he wants to come back to us, we'll be here, if
not, I can't really blame him. It was my choice to
keep her, I didn't really give him the chance to fight
it." Clark seemed to appreciate her openness.

"Thank you for keeping her." Chloe smiled at him half
    heartedly.

"Well, I'll let you get some sleep." Chloe smiled and
    took his hand in hers.

"Thank you for coming." Chloe squeezed and felt no
shock, no tingle as she had when she held Lex's hand
with her own. She pulled away quickly. "Thanks,
    Clark."

Clark simply nodded and backed out of the room.

    *~*

    Fortress of Solitude:

"You know, when this started I blamed you for
everything. If you had just confided in us, we were
your friends, Clark." Clark shifted uncomfortably
under Lex's gaze. His body spread out against the
couch, Lex was standing by the stairs.

"And as I've heard you just abandoned one of your
friends too." Clark sat up and stared bleakly at Lex.
    Lex's face held no emotion.

    "I didn't ask to have a child."

    "I didn't say you did."

"Then what are you talking about?" Lex leaned against
    the banister.

"You held her hand, you talked her through this so
far. She's hurting, you know that. She needs you,
Lex. Far more than she's ever needed me. Far more
than she's needed anyone up to now."

Lex turned to go back down the stairs. "That's what
scares me." He muttered and retreated from the barn.

    *~*

    The Talon:

"Hello?" Chloe ducked her head into the coffeehouse.
    "Anyone ho-ome?"

"Chloe?" Lana's head appeared up from behind the
counter. "Chloe!" She ran over to her. "How are
    you, wow...you're huge!"

Chloe smiled brightly and her hands splayed across her
stomach. "As a house, I know."

"And you look so happy." Lana matched Chloe's smile.

"I am." She stated simply. "Anyway, I'm only allowed
out of the hospital for a few hours, I have to get
    back before dawn..."

"Or you'll turn into a pumpkin?"

"Well, seeing as how I look as if I swallowed one..."
She paused at Lana's worriness. "What's wrong?"

    "Your dad."

Chloe nodded and pursed her lips together. "He's been
    down lately."

"Ye-ah, for the past week." Lana said in a duh tone.

"I know...it's just that, I didn't ask for any of
this, but now, I'm thrilled. I never pictured myself
as a mom, let alone a single one, but now, I feel like
    I can take it on."

"WOAH!" Pete exclaimed as he came out from the back
room. "Whatcha got under that shirt?" He teased
    hugging her gently.

"I'm not breakable." He squeezed her a little harder.

"Hold on...did you say a single parent?" Lana's voice
    went hard. "Lex left you?"

Chloe looked down at the counter and then back up at
Lana. "Unfortunately. But don't take it out on him,
okay. He's not feeling well and I think this all hit
    him pretty hard."

"When are you due?" Pete chimed in changing the
    subject.

"Wednesday. My c-section is scheduled for Wednesday."

"Wow, two more days and you'll be a proud mommy."
    Pete grinned.

"A proud *single* mommy." Lana said harshly. "Do you
know where he is, cuz I'd really like to have a talk
    with him."

Chloe rolled her eyes. "Okay Miss Protective. No, I
don't know where he is. He left yesterday after the
ultrasound. Which reminds me. I came to tell you
what the sex is. Any guesses?"

"Purple people eater?" Pete smirked and the coughed
    back a laugh.

Chloe proceded to elbow him. "No, but now I want to
    watch that movie."

He flashed her a knowing smile. Chloe had been
obsessed with that movie for a whole year until Pete
stole the tape away from her and burned it. She
    thought the vcr ate it.

"Well!" Lana stated impatiently. "Girl or Boy?"

    Chloe smiled widely. "Girl."

"AHHHHHHH!" Lana screamed and practically jumped on
    Chloe.

"NO PINK!" Pete stated firmly as if reading Chloe's
    mind. Lana narrowed her eyes.

"Look, little girls, escpecially babies, where pink."

Chloe smiled and heard the horn honk outside. "Ooh, I
have to go, I wanted to stop by the mansion, see if I
    couldn't find a certain billionaire that's keeping
    himself locked away."

Lana half smiled at her and Pete held his arm out, she
took it as he led her to the waiting Taxi. "Want me
    to drive you?"

Chloe cringed. "Nah. I need to do this on my own."

Pete nodded and hugged her tight. "I have your
homework by the way, didn't know if you were coming
    back any time soon."

Chloe held onto him afraid to let go. "Thanks Pete."

    "Anytime."

    "For everything."

Pete rested his cheek against her hair. "Like I said,
    anytime."

    Chapter 15: Hide and Seek

Chloe stared up at the imposing structure in front of
her. "What am I doing?" She groaned as she waved the
cab to leave after paying him. She stood in front of
    the main door.

"Ma'am?" The butler answered her knock.

"Hey, Andrew, I was wondering if Lex was around."

Andrew gave her a questioning look. "Miss Sullivan,
the master hasn't returned from the hospital yet."
Chloe pondered on this for a moment.

"Huh. Well, mind if I come in and rest, I really need
    to getoff my feet."

Andrew immediately moved aside for her. "Yes, Ma'am.
    Shall I lead you to..."

"No, that's fine, I'm sure you know what room I'm
going to." She fingered the twine around her neck,
hanging from it a shiny silver key hid between her
breasts. "If Lex comes home can you tell him where I
    am?"

    Andrew nodded. "Of Course."

Chloe smiled and made her way down the hall. She
heard soft music, classical, possibly Handel's Messiah
when she came to the door. Tilting her head to the
side she turned the knob and pushed open, the door
    gave way.

Her eyes skimmed the room, the rather large room, and
sitting indian style in front of the craft on the
floor was Lex. She silently closed the door behind
her and made her way over to him, the music drowning
out her footsteps. She knelt down a few feet away
from him and crawled her way over, her arms reached
arund his back, past his sides and clasped together
across his chest. "Lex." She said softly.

His body shuddered and she rested her head on his
shoulder. "Lex?" her voice cracked but a little more
    normal.

He sniffled and her heart nearly broke. "Lex. What's
wrong?" She moved to sit beside him and he put his
head in his hands. Her arms wrapped around him again
and pulled him into her, his head came to rest on top
    of her stomach.

"I don't know what to do." His voice was shaky and
she saw he had a little pink bear in his hand.

She closed her eyes and let a tear fall, "Lex, you
don't have to do anything. I can do this on my own.
It's okay..." She was interrupted when lex lifted his
head from her stomach and looked into her eyes.

There was no fear there, no sadness, no pain. He just
looked lost. Lost and alone. "Lex?"

"Chloe, I...I want this. I want you, and I want the
baby, and I want a family, all of us. But I can't ask
you to do that. I can't ask you to love me, or fall
    in love with me, or..."

Chloe smiled, cutting him off. "One step at a time.
What exactly are you aking me?"

He sat back and grabbed her hands, "Move in with me."

Chloe let out a breath of relief. "@#%$, Lex, I
though you were about to propose. Do not do that
again." She swatted his arm. "And yes, I'll move in
    with you."

Lex's eyes turned from a stormy blue to a brighter,
bluer than blue, no hints of gray tinted them.
    "Really?"

Chloe smiled and crawled into his lap. "Of course. I
mean, how weird would it be to have to travel back and
forth with her, not to mention explaining to her why
mommy and..." Chloe paused. She remembered Lex's
running away yesterday and wasn't sure what to call
    him.

"Daddy." Lex hugged her tighter. "I'm going to be a
    daddy."

Chloe stifled a laugh. "I hope you know your social
    life is completely ruined now."

Lex's brow furrowed and he looked down at her. "But
    you'll never have one."

Chloe smiled and she realized that he did know what
they were getting themselves into. "Becoming parents
at an early age shows you who your real friends are."

Lex nodded. "So what would you had said if I'd
    proposed."

"No." She automatically said without giving it
another thought. "We've only known eachother a week,
    I'm 17, *we* aren't even dating, You're 22, did I
    mention I was 17?"

Lex smiled down at her. "What the..." His face
became serious again when he felt another push on his
    stomach.

"Baby's kicking." Chloe smiled up at him.

Lex put his hand over her stomach and the kicking grew
stronger. "So does she like me or is she telling me
    to back off her mama."

"Not even born and she's calling the shots already."
Chloe grinned and Lex smiled, standing up.

"Let's get you back to the hospital." He held his
    hand out for her.

"One thing though." She stated letting him pull her
    up.

    "What's that?"
"Next time you have all these doubts, talk to me,
    don't just leave, okay?"

Lex put his arm around her and walked towards the
    door. "Deal."

    *~*

Tuesday morning Chloe woke up as she had so many
mornings with an arm draped over her stomach. Only
something was wrong. Something was very wrong.
    "Lex?" She moaned.

    "Hmmmm."

"Lex...I..." She felt the muscles in her body turn to
gelatin, followed by the speeding up then slowing down
    of her heart beat.

Lex opened his eyes when he heard her voice trail off,
the constant humming of the heart rate machine beside
them started going awol. "Chloe?" His head shot up
and he looked down at her. Her eyes stared up at the
ceiling, not blinking, not moving, her hands layed
over her stomach, not moving. "CHLOE!" He sat up and
shook her hard. "WAKE UP!" He yelled just as a swarm
    of nurses rushed in.

"She's flatlined!" One nurse said as a glowing beep
sounded from the machine. A line going all the way
    across the machine.

"She's pregnant." A male nurse said as another said
    "Clear."

Lex found himself standing in the corner of the room.
"I don't care about the baby, save her." He ordered
and each and every person in the room except for the
one he truly wanted to look at him, turned around.
Their eyes locked with his and in a matter of seconds
the man who'd said clear was ripping her gown off of
her, the material lay open and to the sides. Paddles
pressed down on her and he saw her body arch up off
the bed. Another nurse ordered for the volts to be
    turned up.

    *~*

Lex sat waiting, going on two hours, his head in his
    hands.

    "Lex?"

Lex's head raised dlwoly, the tears threatening to
    make their way. "Gabe."

    "What...where is she?"

    "Surgery."

Gabe stared at Lex's demeanor. He was calm and cool
and collected...and then he saw the tears.

Gabe walked over to Lex and sat down beside him.
"She's a fighter, everything will be fine."

Lex nodded. "She flatlined for 90 seconds."

Gabe looked slowly over at Lex in disbelief. "She
    what?"

"When we woke up this morning she started to flatline,
when the staff came in I told them to forget about the
baby and save Chloe." Lex put his head back in his
hands, palms pressed down hard over his eyelids.

For the first time, Gabe put an arm around him.
"Thank you." He whispered to Lex.

Lex looked up at Gabe and saw the doctor coming for
    them. "Mr Luthor."

    "Yes."

    "You can see her now."

Lex nodded and Gabe got up to follow.

Chapter 16: Whats in a name?

Chloe's lifeless figure laid in the bed. Her arms resting by her
sides, her eyelids fluttering around beneath. Gabe sat completely
still. The chair beside her bed had molded to fit his body over the
last hour. She had been asleep, looking so peaceful he had been
afraid to wake her. He knew Clark and Lana and Pete were waiting for
her in the waiting room, but he couldn't pull himself away from her
long enough to go fill them in. He pressed a kiss to her forhead and
    got up to leave. "Lex?"

Gabe swung back around to the voice. "Chloe, no, it's daddy." Chloe
opened her eyes and stared at the face looking back down at her. Her
face became twisted with emotion. Gabe became shocked at tears
strolled down her face and she began to sob uncontrollably. "Chloe."
he sat down beside her on the bed. "What is it."

She pressed her hands to her eyes and shook her head. "Lex."

    "What about him."

She shook her head again. "He...He left me again didn't he." She
tried to roll over onto her side and her body tore at her. She let
out a scream and Gabe settled her back down into the bed.

"I think we need to talk, about you, about Lex..."

She looked to the doorway and her mouth dropped open. "Lex." He
    smiled widely at her.

"You're awake." He leaned down and kissed her forhead, then her nose,
then both cheeks. "We've been waiting for you."

Chloe's eyes teared up once again. "I thought you left me."

Lex grinned and walked back toward the door. 'He's going to leave.'
The thought ran through her still hazy mind, could it just be a
    dream?

Lex held up a finger, motioning for her to wait a second and after a
few seconds her came in with a bundle in his arms. "*We* have been
waiting for you to wake up." Lex walked directly to her bedside and
    sat down beside her.

    "She...but how..."

Lex looked over at Gabe and then down to Chloe. "Call it a miracle,
call it divine intervention, call it super wacky ass alien powers,
call it whatever you want. But she was completely unphased when you
    died."

Chloe's eyes widened. "I what?" Her voice incredibly hushed.

"You are a side show for your own wall of weird. You died for a whole
90 seconds. They paddled you back to life." Clark appeared in the
    doorway.

Lex nestled in beside Chloe, his head rest against her pillow beside
hers and he lay the baby on her chest. "Meet Baby Luthor-Sullivan."

Chloe grinned and kisses the wrinkled forhead. "Luthor-Sullivan?"

Lex did a half shrug and kissed Chloe on the cheek. His lips barely
brushing her skin. "Figured I'd give you the caboose, afterall, you
    did die."

Chloe let out a strangled laugh as Pete and Lana appeared in the
    doorway. "You didn't name her."

Lex smiled at her and propped the side of his head in his hand, his
elbow firmly holding him up. "All yours."

She looked around the room. Familiar faces smiling down at her. Her
head turned to Lex and she brushed her lips across his, a smirk
enveloping his face. "Thank you." She smiled and he leaned down to
her running his lips along hers. She parted them for him and he took
her bottom lip into his mouth, as she did with his top lip. When they
pulled back he saw the shimmer in her eyes as they glowed with
happiness, he could only imagine what his looked like, since she had
clearly just given him a peice of heaven.

"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Alexandra Elizabeth." She turned to
look at Lex and the shock on his face and in his eyes showed her how
    much it meant to him.

    "Chloe--"

"Shhh." She pressed her lips to his again. "Don't argue, just be
    thankful."

She kissed him again and pulled away. A smile returned to his face
and everyone in the room besides him, her, and the addition to their
family. "Thank you." he whispered and kissed her forehead, they both
turned their gaze on the squirming bundle in the blanket.

    Chapter 17: Meet the family.

Chloe sat in the wheelchair, still very uncomfortable to walk.
Alexandra wrapped tightly in a blanket, close to her chest, her arms
    cradling the baby.

"Ready, sweetheart." Chloe said nothing. "You can't do this to me,
Chloe. What am I supposed to do?"

"Trust me." She replied enunciating each word.

"How can you ask me to do that? You slept with my boss and got
pregnant, not to mention you made up some moronic excuse as to how it
    happened."

Chloe closed her eyes breifly. "I want to go to the mansion."

"Well, too bad, you're my daughter, and you're coming home with me."
Gabe said soundly and pushed the wheelchair through the automatic doors.

    *~*

Lex sat behind his desk, his head in his hands. "Alexander?" His
father's voice rang out in the halls.

Lex swiped at his eyes with his thumbs before leaning back in his
    chair. "In here, father."

"Ah, Lex." Lionel commented as he stepped through the doors. Lex
turned to face the other way as he felt a whole new wave of tears
coming forth. "Why so cold?" Lionel sneered walking closer.

"What do you want, father?" Lex turned to look at him, hopefully
showing him the unshed tears would make him leave.

"Well, isn't this a surprise, I wasn't sure if you were capable of
emotions anymore." Lionel sunk into the chair in front of him.

"Well, I am, and this is sort of a private moment, you can let
yourself out." Lex turned to look back out the window.

"Your mother used to cry alone also. She never wanted me anywhere
near her. She used to say that emotions showed you were weak. I'd
remind her that it was only in the business world. Whatever emotion
you wanted to show in the privacy of your own home, is your own doing."

Lex looked up at his father, letting the words skip over his brain.
"You never told me that part." He felt a sudden anger sweep through
him. Today had not been a good day. He had woken up beside Chloe in
the hospital bed, her soft hand resting on his chest and his hand
resting on her cheek. And then everything they had been happy about
for the past week since the birth of their child was shattered when it
was announced she'd be released to go home. Lex had prepared her a
room at the mansion and a nursery had already been put together.

Lex's eyes narrowed as Gabe had entered the hospital room and asked to
talk to Chloe alone. Lex stood outside the door and listened to the
    conversation intently.

"Hey, Daddy." Chloe's voice rasped out in a cheery attempt.

"Chloe, sweetheart, I think we should talk."

He didn't hear a reply from Chloe which indicated she had most likely
nodded. And then gabe's voice came clear again.

"About you and Lex, Chloe. I don't think you two should see eachother
anymore." Lex's hands tightened into fists and his muscles tensed
    waiting for her response.

"Wh- Why?" Chloe aske in a shockingly confused tone.

"I just feel like you depend on him too much. Lex Luthor is not going
to stay around, Chloe. I just don't want to see you get hurt. I want
you to come home with me."

"No." Chloe stated soundly. "Lex and I have a child together,
father, and I will not leave him out of Alexandra's life."

"That's fine, but I want you living with me."

Lex walked into the room just then and looked Gabe dead in the face.
Surprisingly Gabe stared him down, obviously showing his daughter was
worth the fight. Chloe made a cut throat motion to Lex and mouthed,
'Don't'. Lex walked over to her side and leaned down putting his ear
close to her lips, peppering her cheek with soft kisses. Her soft
words stirred something deep inside of him. "I'm sorry Lex."

He looked up at her stunned. "Why?"

"Because I'm taking Alexandra with me." Chloe fought back the tears.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.

"Mr Sullivan." Lex stood straight. "I'll see you at work tomorrow."
He bent down, leaning over Chloe. "And you. I'll see you tonight."
he kissed her forehead and left the room.

Gabe looked over at Chloe. "It's time to go."

Chloe closed her eyes. "I'm not going to stop seeing him." She said
flatly. "You can't keep us apart."

Gabe sighed and walked out of the room to fetch a wheelchair.

Lex was brought back to the present by the sound of a throat clearing.
"Would you like to tell me what this is about?"

Lex shook his head once. "No."

Lionel nodded slightly. "I see. Well then, let's move onto business
shall we." Just as Lionel went into another proposal for Lex joining
him a knock on the office door quieted both of them.

"Come in." Lex said loudly. Chloe peeked her head in.

"Hey, daddy." She smiled brightly and Lex's eyes cleared. Lionel
looked from the young blonde to his son. Immediately he saw a
difference in Lex's eyes and demeanor and smirked.

'Daddy?' Lionel raised an eyebrow. 'This should prove to be
    interesting.'

"Come in." Lex waved her in with a hand and stood up coming around
the desk. His back to Lionel he took the baby in his arms and started
swaying back and forth. Lionel stood, suddenly interested in what was
going on, seeing as he hadn't seen the baby yet. He heard a soft coo
and was shocked still in his place.

"Alexander, is there something you'd like to tell me?" Lionel
couldn't believe Lex would have a child and not inform him immediately.

Lex turned and smiled at his father, Chloe sank onto a nearby couch.
"Father, this is Alexandra Elizabeth Luthor-Sullivan." Lex walked
towards his father and Lionel looked down into the small bundle Lex's
arms were supporting. The shocking blue eyes stared back at him and
the baby desperately attempted to put her fist in her mouth after
missing a few times. "This is our daughter."

Lionel looked over at the young blonde and back at Lex. "I think
maybe your girlfriend would like a place to rest." Lex looked back
over at Chloe and she replied.

"Oh, no, I'm not his girlfriend, we're just friends." And she let her
head fall back onto the couch. Gabe came charging through the doors.

"Okay, Lex, she can stay here with you. But I want my granddaughter
every other night...Lionel." Gabe nodded towards him. "I take it you
    fully disapprove also."

"Gabe Sullivan." Lionel said, remembering him from company picnics.
"Lex, you had an illigitimate child with your plant manager's
daughter?" Lionel questioned and walked over to Gabe extending his
hand. The men shook and then Chloe laughed harshly.

"God this is so ironic. And you know how much I'd like to stay and
chat, but I really need to find a bed." Lex nodded and cradling the
baby in one arm pulled Chloe up off the couch with the other.

"I'll show you to your room." Lex said as he helped her to the door.

"Son." His father said and walked closer to him. "May I?" He
reached his hands out to the tiny baby. Lex nodded and let him take
her. He quietly began humming and bouncing the baby subtely in his
arms. Chloe and Lex shared a look. "I am a father you know, I know
how to handle a baby." Lex smirked and led Chloe out of the room.

He settled her into her bed and pulled the sheets up around her.
"How'd you do it?" he asked sitting on the bed beside her. Chloe
    smiled.

"Behold the power of the silent treatment." Lex grinned and leaned
down to kiss her. His lips barely brushed hers.

"You're amazing, Chloe." She closed her eyes and nodded once.

"So I've been told." She grinned and Lex let out a loose laugh.

    Chapter 18: The Upperhand

Lex lowered his body onto the bed beside Chloe's. He ran his fingers
softly through her hair as she drifted off to sleep. Momentarily
wondering if Alexandra would be okay with his father, he decided there
was no time like the present to give the old man a second chance.
Chloe lay on her back, her stomach still fighting off the pain of the
incision from her c-section. Lex propped himself up on an elbow, and
strummed her skin from cheekbone to jaw. Her face was etched with
peace and it captivated him, he knew he was falling in love. He
couldn't place his finger on the time and place exactly, but it was
definitely there, and although he'd thought he'd tell her any minute
now...he knew he wouldn't. She didn't need this life, he would
support her and give her shelter, but to promise her a life he
couldn't deliver would be unreasonable, not to mention unfair.

Almost an hour had passed as he glanced to the digital clock beside
the bed over his shoulder. His arm was fast asleep and his wrist bent
all out of hell. But still his eyes lingered on her lips. To her
cheekbone. To her eyebrows and the whisps of blonde that hung over
her features. To her eyelids that fluttered gently. Her nose, which
is anyone compared the baby to the mother, would say it was hers.
Lex's hand came to rest on her stomach just above the incision and
right below her breasts. It was then that her heart beat seemed to
pound through her body and into his fingertips like an electrical
current that wouldn't let him move his hand away. A few moments
later, while he struggled to break contact without waking her his arm
fell from under him and he stifled back a gasp as it dangled below his
side, his fingertips touched the sheets barely and they rose another
foot. Lex watched on in awe as Chloe sighed contentedly in her sleep
and they lowered slowly. As soon as he was back on the bed he pulled
his hand away slowly and rolled off the bed. She started to float
again and Lex's eyes widened as she turned her head and her eyes
fluttered open to look at him.

    "Hi." She whispered.

    "Ummm, Chloe?"

"It'll stop in a few seconds." She said reassuringly. "Weird, huh?"

Lex nodded slowly. He figured she would have lost all her powers once
the ambilical cord was cut, but that wasn't it at all. It was almost
as if the powers had just grown with her to accomodate and work more
in tune with her body. She fell to the bed and stopped an inch before
she hit. With a soft thump her back lowered to the bed the rest of
the way. "I can control it now." She grinned at him and snuggled her
head into the sheets. "Sorry if I scared you. I didn't know you were
going to lay down or I would have shared it with you."

    "You did."

"Oh." her eyes widened. "Oh, I'm sorry, Lex."

"No, no, don't be." He moved closer to the bed and lay down beside
her. "Just go back to sleep." Chloe nodded and nudged her face into
Lex's chest as he lay back down on his side and her on her back. When
her breathing returned to a smooth shallow rythym he smiled down at
her and whispered. "I think I'm falling in love with you, Chloe." To
his surprise she snuggled into him deeper.

"Me too." She whispered in a groggy voice as if still asleep and her
    eyes fluttered once again.

    *~*

When Gabe had left after a half hour of silence between the two men.
It had since been another half hour when the tiny sleeping bundle
started to cry. Lionel rocked back and forth, changed a diaper and
then gave up. "Where is your mommy and daddy?" He cooed at the little
girl in his arms...his son's daughter, his granddaughter. He smiled a
little and looked down at the baby. This was the Luthor Heir.
"Something will have to be done about your last name, but we'll get it
all straightened out tommorrow, maybe, after a long talk with your
daddy he'll come to his senses." Lionel was pretty sure the cute
blonde, whom he couldn't remember the name of for the life of himself,
had picked out the name, or the last name atleast. And he was also
pretty sure Lex became a complete push over around the little lady,
after the way his eyes lit up at her arrival earlier, he was happy to
see his son's pain melt away, but he saw it again in their future
    soon.

Lionel noticed the door of Lex's bedroom cracked and pushed it open
lightly, the baby had a firm grasp on his pinky finger and was sucking
at it hungrily. The last thing Lionel expected to see when he looked
in would be what was in front of his own eyes. His son's crisp
slacks, immacualte shirt, socks and shoes, adorned his body as he lay
staring down into the face of a sleeping young mother. Lex's eyes
were a soft blue, holding so much emotion Lionel could almost feel
himself cracking. As Lex's fingers ran softly through her hair he saw
a small smile appear on her lips and then on Lex's. Lionel decided
against breaking the moment. "Let's see if we can't find something in
the form of a bottle in the kitchen for you." Lionel said in a sing
song voice as he bounded down the hallway with his granddaughter.

    Chapter 19: Two years passed

A/N: This is where the rest of the fic starts off, no this isn't the
ending, it just jumps ahead a little. Believe me, everything will
    fall into place.

Chloe and Lex walked side by side as their eyes followed an
overprotective uncle hovering over their child. "You'd think he'd let
    her breath by now."

Lex smirked at Chloe's comment. Clark had been the obsessive uncle,
although he was more like a big brother, only now he had two siblings.
He held Jake close to his body while Allie ran ahead of him. Chloe
would have been worried, but there was no other little girl in all of
Smallville or the world for that matter that looked like theirs. Her
shock of blonde hair and sparkling green eyes could take any strangers
breath away. "So I was thinking Paris." Lex glanced over to see
    Chloe's reaction.

"Paris sounds nice." She nearly deadpanned and added a way too fake
    smile at the end.

"What's wrong with Paris?" He sighed and felt her elbow him slightly
    at his exasperated tone.

"It's just...Lex, I don't think Allie and I are going to go with you
this year." There she had said it, now she had to wait for the bomb.

"Repeat that." Lex ordered in a hushed voice as to not draw any more
attention to them as they already had just by being at the town fair.

Chloe stopped and her small hand grabbed onto Lex's sleeve and pulled
him into a nearby empty tent. "I think you should go alone." She
    stated soundly.

Lex raised both his eyebrows. "I'm sorry, but I was under the
suspicion that this was a *family* vacation."

Chloe winced and closed her eyes to collect her thoughts. "I know,
just like last year and the year before. First a weekend in
Metropolis and then the African safari. Lex both were great trips,
really, but I'm worried about you."

'what the @#%$?' Lex's thoughts nearly ran away from him. "And why
    is that?"

Chloe tensed her jaw and then let it fully relax. "You haven't dated
in the last two years, Lex. You need to get out more."

"Ahhh, that's what this is about." Lex started walking away from her
and out of the tent knowing she'd be close behind, Chloe never left a
conversation unresolved. "Chloe, I feel the need to point out that
you haven't either. And blind dates don't count." He pointed out and
stopped when he saw his father just ahead of them holding Allie in his
arms, she was 'stealing his nose' away.

"I know, but I think maybe it's time we..." Chloe tried to think of
the best way to say it without getting too emotional. She was in love
with Lex, all of her heart, soul and body belonged to him. She fell
asleep in his arms almost every night and woke up in a twist of sheets
with him every morning. Except when he was away on business, which
worried her more lately because he hadn't been to Metropolis in the
past few months. But they had never admitted their feelings for
eachother out loud. Well she had, but only when he'd been deep
    asleep.

"Spend some time apart." Lex finished for her. Chloe nodded and
placed a hand on his arm which he flinched at. She quickly took it
    away and inhaled slowly.

    "Lex..."

"No, it's alright, I understand." Lex left her standing there to
rescue his father from becoming a bald man as Allie wrapped a chunk of
his hair around her hand and gave it a good yank. Lionel simply
looked at her and caught the toddler's attention and she let go. 'So
he still has it, that look that could scare the bejesus out of any
living creature.' Lex thought to himself with a sad smile. Lionel
looked up at his son and then past him to where a teary eyed Chloe,
who seemed to be lost in thought, stood.

    "What's wrong?" Lionel asked subtley.

"She wants to spend some time apart." Lex replied peeling his
daughter away from her grandpa, or as she would say 'goomba'.

Allie burried her head against Lex's shoulder. "Is she taking Allie
    with her?"

Lex held on tighter to his baby girl, "No, she just said she thought
maybe I should go to Paris alone in August."

Lionel nodded saddly. "Why don't you just tell her?" Lionel added in
    a somber voice.

"I can't. If I scare her away, she'll leave me." Lionel nodded in
    agreement.

"What makes you think she doesn't love you back?" Lionel asked
    pointedly.

"Father, Chloe loves me, I'm sure of it, just never on the same level
I love her." Lionel watched as a fragile smile lit on Chloe's face.
    She had obviously heard that.

    *~*

Chloe walked into the bedroom late that night after finishing up her
homework. She was in her second year of college after getting her GED
and she hated it, school was definitely not meant for her. Lex lay in
bed reading the paper, his bare chest glowed in the light casting down
on her from over their bed. Chloe stopped there and just stared at
him. She was consumed in her thoughts and her eyes still fixed on Lex
when a voice cleared and she snapped back into her reality at Lex's
eyes staring just as intently back at hers. "Coming to bed?" Lex
pulled back the sheets and Chloe ran a hand through her hair.

"No." She shook her head and went into the bathroom, running hot
water for her bath. What hurt him the most was when he heard the lock
on the other side of the bathroom door slide into place. Since she
had moved into his room, the bathroom door had never been shut, nor
locked. He closed his eyes and suddenly everything in the house
stilled to a hush, and his heart broke.

Shattering into a thousand peices as he heard her crying softly to
herself. Lex felt a warm streak run down his face and lowered himself
into bed. Somehow he knew that tonight, she would not be sharing
their bed. She had never not slept with him when he was home. And
for the past few months, it had been ever night, and for the past two
years, it was very rare for him to not be here.

Chloe lay in the bathtun, the hot water scalded her skin and felt so
good as it waved around her, cleansing her pores, she couldn't help
the first sob that escaped her, and after that, she let it go. He
loved her, was possibly in love with her, yet he wouldn't tell her.
Should she be flattered? Was he protecting her from some tragic
demise? She couldn't tell with him. One minute she could read him
like an open book and then today for the first time in the tent she
felt him slip away, and then when she'd gone to touch him and he'd
pulled back she knew she'd lost him. Well, there was only one thing
to do...and if he wasn't going to do it, then she would.

Chapter 20: For the First Time

Chloe stepped out of the bathtub carefully, if Lex was asleep she
wanted him to wake up looking at her. Not from some ominous noise.
Wrapping her robe around her she glanced in the mirror. She couldn't
help but face the facts, she looked like @#%$. Being a mom was hard
enough but doing it without a nanny or a second person was even
harder. Sure, Lex was there during the evenings, but he wasn't during
the day. And the nanny idea didn't go over very well with Chloe after
she watched an episode of Oprah on neglected children.

Opening the bathroom door slowly she heard the lock click. 'Oh, God,
I locked him out.' She had done it without even realizing it, knowing
she needed to be alone, no interuptions, but she had never locked any
of the doors in the house. She made a mental reminder to apologize
for it later. 'After I've said my peice.' She said and nodded once
to herself for confirmation. She slipped out of the robe and pulled
on one of Lex's silk shirts, they always felt so good on her. Pulling
back the sheets she slipped into bed beside him and instead of keeping
her distance tonight she crawled over to his side and swung a leg over
him, straddling him to keep him in place. To her surprise he was
still sleeping. When he was deep in sleep his mouth was always parted
just a little and he made the cutest purring noises.

She put her hands on his pillow, one on each side o

She put her hands on his pillow, one on each side of his head. She
leaned down close to him and brushed her lips against his. "Lex."
She whispered. He attempted to roll in his sleep and when he didn't
his eyes fluttered open staring straight into hers. He jumped at her
closeness and smacked into her forehead.

"@#%$." He muttered and pushed her off him. "Chloe, what the @#%$."
His palm rubbed his forehead hard and he looked over at her.

She got out of bed slowly. "Nevermind." She went back into the
bathroom and started brushing her hair, something she only did when
she got nervous. Lex sat there, watching her in the mirror, surprised
she didn't close it this time when she knew he could see her. She met
his eyes in the mirror and just stared. Lex layed back down.

'What the hell was that?' His thoughts swam and his lips tasted minty.

"@#%$ it." Chloe muttered as Lex layed back down and their gaze was
broken. "Lex." She said loudly as she walked over to the bed and
jumped onto it, her knees on her side. "I want to tell you something."

Lex rolled over and looked up at her, her eyes ablaze with emotion.
    Some he couldn't even place.

"Okay." he said and sat up.

She stared at him for a good minute trying to figure out how to go
about this. Instead she unbuttoned his shirt and let it fall onto the
bed behind her. Lex's eyes widened as he took in her pale, soft, and
completely nude form. "Chl-" Her lips met his and she kissed away
her name, hoping she had enough balls for both of them, and hoping to
god he'd just shut up and give in.

She pulled away and sat back on her knees. "What?"

It was Lex's turn to openly stare, or more like gawk at the woman in
front of him. The woman he had in his bed for the past two years, the
woman who never made a pass at him before. "What was that?"

A sly grin came over her lips and she moved to straddle him again.
Lex's hands clung to her hips and she leaned forward, her breasts and
hardened nipple rubbing against his bare chest. "Chloe." He groaned
and she rocked against him and then swooped down and took him into a
kiss, his mouth opened at the same time hers did and they fought for
control, ending in a winded kiss. Chloe came up for air panting and
Lex's left hand went behind her neck and brought her back down,
bringing her mouth to his once more.

"I love you, Lex." She whispered against his lips. She could feel
him smile and she returned it. "I've loved you for so long now."

Lex's hands stroked along her body, her skin reddened with desire. "I
love you more than you'll ever know." He breath out as her hands ran
down his sides to the elastic of his pants.

"I want you, Lex. Please, tell me you want me." She let her fingers
still just under the waistband and he thrust up against her.

"God, I do, I want you so bad." Lex whispered and gasped when her
hands trapped themselves inside his pants, she stroked carefully at
first, and then Lex rolled over, earning a hard tug as her hand stayed
in contact with him. "I love you, and I want you." He kissed her
forehead and pulled her hand out of his pants. "But not right now."

He rolled back over off of her and she stared back up and the ceiling
in shock. "What?!" She nearly shrieked. "You...but...not now?" She
sat up and looked down at him. "What kind of sick joke is that?"

Lex chuckled and turned his head away from her. "I'm tired."

Her eyes widened. "You @#%$!" She smacked him on his arm earning
    another small laugh from him.

"Not so hostile in bed, Chloe, get some sleep, we'll talk about this
in the morning." Chloe narrowed her eyes at him.

"No, we won't. I'm going to sleep with Allie." She climbed out of
bed and grabbed his silk shirt, she buttoned it up quickly. "I can't
believe you Lex. I offer you my love, my heart, my soul, my @#%$
virginity and you pull this crap. AUGH!" She threw her hands up and
    turned for the door.

"You're still a virgin?" His voice came out as a shocked breath of
    words.

"Uhhh, yeah." She turned back to look at him now sitting up in bed.
"When the hell would I have lost it?"

    "I thought you and Jeremy..."

"Ewwww, Lex! Stop it!" She covered her mouth with her hand. "That's
    just gross."

Lex pulled back the sheets and patted the bed beside him, "Come back
    to bed, Chloe, please."

She looked at the invitation in front of her and slowly made her way
back to the bed, "Fine, but I'm keeping the shirt on."

Lex let out a loud laugh and grabbed her as she slipped under the
covers pulling her hard against him, "I do love you, but I don't want
to sleep with you just yet."

Chloe considered this, "okay, but when you're ready. Let me know."

Lex nodded against the top of her head. "I will."

    Chapter 21: UST

Chloe woke up wrapped in silk sheets, silk sheets gliding against the
silk of the shirt she wore. Turning in bed to look over at Lex, she
saw nothing. Her brow wrinkled together. He had never just left her
in bed before. He would wake her up and tell her good morning or
something along those lines. She groaned as she got out of bed and
remembered bits and peices of her jumping Lex last night, and his not
oh so subtle way of making her feel moronic. Just as Chloe opened the
door to her closet she jumped as the sound of a shot rang through the
house. 'Oh, god.' She stilled in motion and Allie came barging
through the door, she grabbed onto Chloe's legs and hugged them as
    tight as possible.

"Big boom, mommy." She buried her face into the back of Chloe's knee
and she let her hand reach down and stroke her daughter wild blonde
    hair.

    "S'okay, Baby, mommie's got you."

Allie turned big doe eyes on Chloe and tears dripped down her face.
"Want daddy." She looked pleadingly over to the bed.

"Daddy's not..." Panic struck through her and she bent down and
swooped Allie up into her arms. "Be very quiet okay?" The little
girl nodded and placed a hand over her own mouth. Chloe opened the
door to the hallway and peeked out, she crossed the hallway and scaled
the wall, hugging onto her daughter with all her strength. One door
down and she slowly slipped into the room. Thanking the gods that Lex
had left it unlocked as there was nothing in it Allie could break.

Chloe locked the door behind her and pulled a plush leather chair away
from a grid of 30 small tv sets. Pushing a green button to set off
the motion detectors a screen in the far right corner of the grid
focused on the office. Chloe brought the screen to fill all thirty
sets in front of her. She zoomed out and Lex's face became clearer.
He was looking straight ahead, knelt down in his pajama bottoms. His
arms behind his back. Chloe tilted her head to the side and gasped as
a shadow passed over the wall behind him. A gun clearly held in the
man's hand. "@#%$." Chloe muttered. "Don't repeat that." She added
on to Allie. Allie nodded, her eyes fixed on her daddy.

"Is that man going to hurt daddy?" She pointed to a new picture that
had popped up in one of the free screens.

"Sam..." Chloe gasped. "Oh, God." She turned Allie in her lap.
"Allie, baby, you have to stay here, okay? Mommy'll turn on the tv
for you, I don't want you to watch mommy and daddy, though." Allie
nodded and climbed into the seat beside Chloe's. Chloe programmed the
televisions to reflect that of the Teletubbies.

"Now watch the Teletubbies, and when that's over, watch whatever comes
on next. No matter who knocks on that door, you stay still, no speaking."

Allie nodded and turned her attention back on the television. "I love
you." Chloe whispered and placed a small kiss on her daughter's head.
"And your daddy loves you." Allie smiled up at her.

    "Lala's silly." Chloe nodded.

"Remember what mommy said." She locked the door and pulled it closed
    behind her.

    *~*

Chloe made her way back to the bedroom, she pulled open the top drawer
of Lex's dresser and rummaged around through his boxers and socks
until her hand touched cold metal. She pulled the gun out with shaky
hands and grabbed her garter from the top of her own dresser. She
slipped the elastic around her thigh and checked the gun for bullets,
making sure the safety was on. No way in hell was she going to get
down there just to shoot herself in the foot or something. 'Focus,
Chloe.' She jarred herself mentally. She stopped by the door to the
room her daughter was in. "I love you Allie, be right back okay?"

"K, momma." Her daughters voice rang through the door. Chloe slipped
the gun into the elastic and still donning only Lex's silk shirt she
    inhaled his scent.

"I love you, Lex." She whispered to herself as she made her way down
the stairs. Wondering why she didn't just contact the police, Lex
always told her that half the police in Smallville were crooked, there
was no point in getting them involved when they were most likely in on
it. Edging around the corner of the hallway she slipped up to the
door that was cracked slightly. Peeking inside she saw Lex on his
knees on the floor, his hands tied behind his back, the white rope now
visible to her. She hadn't noticed the gag before, it was a red
    handkercheif stuffed in his mouth.

Chloe flinched from her hidden spot in the hallway and Sam raised the
gun and smacked Lex across the face with the butt of it. Lex's head
turned back to face straight. Making Sam only madder. He did it
again and then Chloe's hand shot to her thigh where Lex's gun lay as
Sam's turned and he laid the barrel against Lex's forehead.

A pure white heat seeped into her veins and pumped ferociously. She
could care less who was in that room with her best friend. The man
she loved. her eyes went red with ire and as she heard the gun @#%$
she pulled the gun from her thigh and walked in to the office, she
could only see the back of Sam's head and that was enough of a target
for her. She braced her body against the wall, leaning her back hard
into it and silently she released the safety. In her mind she watched
as Lex's eyes fluttered shut, and Sam's finger hesitate on the
trigger, and then she opened her own, aimed, and fired. Once, then
twice, and then bullet after bullet shot from her gun and her finger
was unstoppable. When she heard a faint click and no more would come
out of the gun, she knew she had hit him with the first one, right
where she had aimed. But something had kept her from stopping there.

She watched as Sam's body slumped down and fell on top of Lex's. She
immediately threw the gun to the left of her and ran to shove him off.
As Lex's body was uncovered his eyes opened and stilled on hers. She
yanked the gag out of his mouth and knelt beside him, she rolled him
to his side and started working on the ropes. "Chloe." His voice
    sounded strangled.

'Oh, my god, what if he was shot.' She left the ropes and turned him
onto his back again. "Yeah." She said hurriedly.

He breathed in deeply. "God, I love you." She smiled at him
halfheartedly and rolled him back over to finish off untying his ropes.

Chapter 22: Lex's POV: Rude Awakening

Lex's arms held onto Chloe tight. His sleep was jarred when the
knock on the bedroom door got louder with each rap. Kissing Chloe on
the forehead he padded across the room and opened the door
quietly. "What?" He said in a tight voice.

Sam stood on the other side. "We need to talk."

Lex looked back at Chloe's still figure. He never forgot a face and
remembering Sam from the first time he and Chloe really ever spoke in
that field so long ago after finding the craft.

Lex followed Sam down the hallway, wondering why he was here and why
the butler hadn't shown him to the room. Deciding againt his better
judgement he walked into his office, still clad in only his silk
pajama pants. As he looked over at Sam looking out the window he
cursed himself for not bringing any protection and going against
Chloe's pleas for highering better security. Sam turned and tossed a
paper at Lex, looking down at it on the floor he saw it was a
tabloid, some nameless one, not even earning as much respect as the
Inquisitor. "Pick it up, Luthor." Lex eyed the man suspiciously and
knealed down on the floor to pick it up. Standing straight once
again he read the headline. Same old story. 'Bad boy Billionaire
Lex Luthor proposes to Live in Lover.' The story went on to talk
about how they had a child together and had been living together for
the last two years. He was settling down and blah blah blah, nothing
neither of them had ever read before. Old news.

"What's your point?" Lex asked and tossed the paper onto his
desk. "Sam, isn't it?" Sam turned and glared at Lex.

"You stole her from me." Lex was shocked to say the least.

"Don't get me wrong, but I thought your sexual preference pointed to
the other end of the spectrum." Lex sneered, this was
ridiculous. "And that," He pointed down to the tabloid. "Is
trash. We aren't engaged, hell, we haven't even slept together."
Lex mentally added the word 'yet' remembering her advances last night
and how he wanted to pound into her right then and there.

"Right, like I should beleive anything that comes from your mouth.
You're a Luthor, you'll lie and cheat your way out of anything." Lex
was struck with a smirk. Okay so it was true, he wasn't the most
honorable man in the world, but when it came to his family,
expecially his best friend and his daughter, he was nothing but
honest and truthful. Lex turned to walk out of the room, he'd had
enough. Just as he reached the couch he felt a blow to his head, and
as everything went out of focus, he regretted one thing, waking Chloe
up this morning to tell her he loved her.

As his surroundings lost the fuzzy edge Lex's breathing was strangled
by his mouth, something was in the way, lodged too far back into his
throat for him to work out of it. Sitting up on his knees he felt
the rope behind him tighten and struggled for a moment before letting
his eyes fall on the figure above him. 'Chloe.' His thoughts
focused on her entirely until another blonde face surfaced in his
mind. 'Oh, god, my girls.' Sam hovered above him, his finger poised
on the trigger of a pistol he let the cold metal press lightly
against Lex's temple. "I guess I should start off by saying that I
will have Chloe. And while you say you never have, I figure I'll be
her first. How does that feel Lex? Knowing that the woman you love
will soon be beneath me? Feeling me @#%$ her from every angle
imaginable. Screaming my name as her legs wrap around my waist and
explode around me?" Lex shook on the inside, he wanted to break free
and beat the man into a bloody pulp, worse than that, he wanted to
turn back time and do it over and over and over again. And if he
made it out of here alive, he promised himself he would.

Lex's outward appearance, however, hadn't changed in the slightest,
he appeared smug and collected, no matter what he would never lose
himself in front of anyone other than Chloe. "You don't think it's
loaded?" Sam said harshly, becoming agitated by Lex's cool
demeanor. he pointed the gun down at the floor beside Lex's leg and
pulled the trigger. Lex's eyes closed briefly as the bullet
ricocheted and struck his leg. 'Chloe, Chloe, Chloe.' His mantra set
on repeat he focused on her alone. Allie would be okay if Chloe
could hold herself together, which he had no doubt if anything that
she would be strong enough to take care of herself if anything should
happen. Lex's eyes opened to a bewildered Sam, as if he couldn't
believe he had just shot the gun, but then the look turned cold,
warning Lex that he'd definitely do it again. Lex's eyes were drawn
over to a small green pinprick of a light on the camera in the corner
of his office. It moved slowly as Sam paced in front of him. It
could only mean one thing, Chloe had heard the shot, and she'd call
    the police.

Lex had warned her not to, but now, he didn't care who came, he hated
feeling helpless, he hated having to depend on others, especially
some of Smallville's most paid off police. But now, at this moment
    he could care less.

"You thought you could steal her from me." Lex looked up at Sam just
as the butt of the gun struck him across the face. Blinking once to
ward off the pain his head turned back straight to stare ahead, which
was something he had learned pissed people off, when you didn't show
them how much pain they were causing. The butt of the gun struck him
once more and the tiny hole of the gun rest against his forehead in
one quick move. The sound of the safety being released echoed in his
mind and his eyes fluttered shut slowly. He wanted to remember the
two most important faces in his life. The two he loved the most. he
flinched as the sound of gunfire came alive over and over again.
When he felt no pain than that of what had already been brought upon
him he opened his eyes and Sam's gun slipped from the man's hand and
blood was sprated all over Lex, the man's face ripping away from his
    skeletonal outline.

The pressure of the body collapsing ontop of him had him breathing
even harder, when he felt it removed his eyes met that of an
angel's. Chloe knelt beside him in his silk shirt from last night,
pulling out the gag in one swift move and turned him onto his side.
He whispered her name and she rolled him back over. "God, I love
you." She smiled weakly and rolled him back over onto his side to
untie the ropes binding his hands together.

    Chapter 23

As soon as the cuffs were off and 911 had been called, Lex held Allie
tight in his arms and watched as Chloe paced up and down the foyuer.
"Chlo- would you just stop a second?"

She shook her head sadly. "I can't, I mean, you could have been..."
she took a small breath and ducked her head saying quietly, "killed."

"But, I wasn't." He smiled at her, "And everyone's fine." Chloe
nodded and looked up at the top of the stairs where they were bringing
a body bag down on a stretcher. She felt her stomach turn.

"I can't believe he did this, I don't understand." She shook her head
once again. Allie yawned and layed her head on Lex's shoulder. "Can
you put Allie in bed?" Chloe started up the stairs behind him. Lex
turned into their daughter's room while Chloe ducked into their own.
She climbed between the sheets and smiled when she saw two security
guards pass their door. "Miss Chloe." The larger one nodded once and
went ahead, the other following close behind.

Lex walked through the doorway and swung the door shut behind him.
"Do you realize that you left her alone? Alone, Chloe. All by
herself." His arms loose at his sides, his posture perfect, and his
    eyes afire.

Chloe's mouth opened slowly. She closed it tightly as she bit back
her answer. "Are you going to punish me for my actions, Lex? Because
if you are, can you wait until I have a nap? I mean, I didn't just
kill my best friend in order to save the love of my life." She rolled
onto her side, her back now facing him. "I love Alexandra as well,
and you should know I wouldn't put her in danger purposely."

She felt the weight of Lex kneeling on her side of the bed and soon
his arms were wrapped around her. "I'm sorry." Chloe tried to roll
away from him but his arms tightened more. "Chloe, don't." She
stopped and he loosened a little but gave her another squeeze when she
shifted to face him. "You and her, you're my life, you're faces were
all I could think of, all I could comprehend in that room. I didn't
care what happened to me, I just prayed you two would be okay."

Chloe swallowed tightly. "I heard what he said."

Lex kissed her forhead. "What did he say?"

"About taking my virginity." She blushed slightly and snuggled deeper
into his arms. "But Lex. There's only one person I've held out for.
I would never give that part of myself to anyone else." Her eyes
focused on his lips, she licked her own. "I mean it." Her eyes
returned to his and before she knew it his lips were sliding against
hers smoothly, his tongue demanding an entrance so slow and graceful.
When he pulled away at the nagging though in the back of his mind,
her low groan made him smile.

"Marry me." Her eyes shot open at the words that rolled so easily off
his tongue. "I know, I know, we aren't even dating, we just had a
kid. And last night, I wanted to tell you the reason I wanted to
wait, I want it to be our honeymoon."

Chloe bit her lower lip. "But, what if you aren't any good? I'll be
stuck with you for the rest of my life." A sly grin tinted her lips.

"You already are." His lips touched hers breifly.

"So I don't get to sample the goods before hand, huh?" She pretended
to ponder this for a moment. "I suppose I could risk it." She
started to laugh as he rolled her onto her back and covered her body
    with his.

"Oh, I didn't say you couldn't sample the goods. I'm saying no
intercourse until the honeymoon." With that said his lips trailed
down to her collarbone and over her stomach.

Chloe's last thought as her eyelids fluttered shut, "This is, indeed,
the Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship."

    Hmm...
There's a lot of *squee* worthiness in this story.

I loved a lot of it. The beginning was FABULOUS, I loved their friendship, the irreverence and humor.

"So you're saying your father doesn't trust me."

"No." She said with a heavy grin. "I'm saying he doesn't trust me."
And then today, Well, I realized I just spent
the better part of my adolescent years crushing on an
alien. I think I'll stick with a nice smile and a
    sense of humor.
These lines and many more were LOL funny. Hilarious!

I also liked Pete's reaction to Chloe's pregnancy, and Chloe's weird alien powers... but sometimes the story moved a little too quickly from one plot point to another for me, and I was confused... maybe I'm missing some bits?

Specific questions I was left with:

    - Did you always intend for Sam to be evil, if so why did he help Chloe and Lex in the beginning? Is there more to that story than we realize, maybe him working for the gov't to get close to Chloe and all her meteor stories? Was he a meteor freak affected by kryptonite, which is why he was acting the way he was?

    - Does Allie have weird alien powers, a la Clark? Did we ever answer whose baby she is biologically? Is she supposed to be part of Krypton's effort to take over Earth, or some sort of companion for Clark?

    - How is it that Gabe still thought Lex knocked Chloe up when he saw her go from four weeks to full term in a little over a week? Not to mention the fact that she was proven a virgin, which raises my next question of:

    - Why did you choose to leave the press out of it, given the fact that a one-week gestation, floating mother, and Lex Luthor as the supposed father would make great fodder for the papers, especially given the fact that Sam was driven to do what he did due to a newspaper story?

Overall I really liked the story, especially the humor in the beginning. The plot was a good one, the idea unique, the writing well-executed... the plot was so rich with ideas and possibilities that it had to move quickly for you to encompass it all, and it moved a little bit too fast for me to comprehend it fully (which could just be me), but otherwise, fantastic!

You finished! *pounces* Loved the fic (of course), although I was still left wondering why Sam would have reacted like that. Of course, I have no idea why guys do half the things they do, so I'll just chalk it up to that. Great job!

Well I surely did not see that coming about Sam. He definitely fooled me. Of course, I'm kind of with Kris here; not sure why Sam would do this??!! Other than that, I luv :chlexsign1: in this story , definitely.

........Wall of Weird for sure  on how Chloe got pregnant !
