    Sweet Zombie Jesus! (R)
    A Halloween Chlex Fiction

    Author: JennyD13
    Rating: R
    Category: Thriller/Comedy?
Summary: Chloe and Lex get kidnapped by a freak of the week with interesting abilities. (You can probably guess by the title what those abilities are).
Spoilers: None that I can see.
    Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Author’s note: Okay, so this is an idea I had for Halloween and I just got around to writing it. Since I am all about the zombie movies lately, I thought it would be cool to incorporate into our little Smallville universe. This is my second Fan Fiction, Pretty Young Thing being my first. Feedback is lovely! Tell me what you think and how I can improve! So Happy Belated Halloween (or very, very early Halloween. Your Choice!)

The first thing Chloe became aware of as she drifted back into consciousness was the scent of death. She had no idea how she knew what death smelled like, but the scent startled her back to reality. And reality was that she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. A permanent fog seemed to have settled itself among her thoughts and her neck ached terribly. What the fuck happened to me? She attempted sit up but she realized, horrified, that she was restrained. Cold, stark fear suddenly found a place deep within her chest.

She opened her eyes for the first time since she had become aware. She first spied a dirty, stained ceiling which Chloe supposed, at one time, had been white. The room that she occupied was cold and damp and dimly lit. It had obviously been a beautiful room once, but now it’s oddly Victorian atmosphere looked like it had been worked over by Tim Burton on crack. The faded wall paper was peeling, a layer of dust covering everything. The large door to the room was closed and she could only assume, locked.

Chloe attempted to raise her head to get a better look at her restraints, but the wave of pain that knocked itself around her brain at her sudden movement had other ideas. She squeezed her eyes shut and mentally told the pain in her head to settle the fuck down. Ignoring it, she raised her head again and saw that (Thank the sweet Lord God) she was still fully clothed and that her hands and feet were bound by thick, scratchy rope to the four wooden bedposts that surrounded her. She shifted her body to see more and she noticed that the bed underneath her was wet and sticky. She turned her head and found that almost all of the bare mattress that she could she was stained. With fresh blood. With death. She shrieked and squeezed her eyes shut. Maybe if she couldn’t see it, it wasn’t there. But she felt its sick stickiness beneath her. She couldn’t shut her eyes against that. She sobbed and tried desperately to free herself from her restraints, but the more she struggled the tighter they became. Chloe felt tears run down her cheeks and that tightness in her throat that she recognized as panic.

And then Chloe heard it. Slap! Draaaaaaaaaaag. Slap! Draaaaaaaaaaaag. Raspy breath. Hands slapping on the carpeted floor. Something writhing and slimy dragging itself. Toward her. Chloe stopped breathing, stopped everything and strained to see what it was but she was unable to see the floor.

“He..hello?” Chloe voiced in a tear choked whisper. It stopped. It listened for her.

“Who is that?” Chloe spoke in what she meant to be a loud, authoritative voice. She sounded like a terrified seven year old. At the sound of her voice, the raspy breath quickened. It sounded like an old witch chuckling. It quickened it’s pace and was soon at the foot of the bed. Chloe’s heart felt like it was about to explode.

The thing slapped against the bottom of the bed, the sound reverberated through Chloe. She had no desire it see what it was or what it wanted from her, but she had no choice in the matter. She saw a dirty, human hand grasp one of the wooden bedposts and then a second hand, the stained mattress. Chloe tried to wiggle her way toward the headboard, but it wasn’t working as well as she had hoped. She had barely budged an inch. The thing finally dragged it’s torso up onto the bed. It was Mrs. Russo, Chloe’s old gym teacher, which was very disconcerting because Mrs. Russo was dead.

Her clothes were decayed and falling part and her face was worse. Bits of grey skin were peeling from it and Chloe could see muscle and bones underneath. It’s mouth was open revealing a black tongue and rotted teeth. What was left of Mrs. Russo stared at Chloe with her dead, white eyes. Chloe recognized the look. Mrs. Russo was hungry. It clamped a cold, damp hand onto her ankle and hauled it’s torso up onto the bed, closer to her. There was nothing below it’s torso.

    Chloe screamed.

    Eight Hours Earlier…

Chloe hopped down from the front seat of Clark’s pick up and smoothed down the front of her costume. It was Halloween Eve and despite herself, Chloe found herself looking forward to the costume party that Lex was hosting for the school. Not because she had the privilege of watching Clark moon over Lana. Not because she liked to socialize with her fellow upright students. But because it was her chance to snoop around the Luthor mansion and see what interesting secrets she could uncover. Chloe perked her eyebrow and smiled brightly. Maybe I’ll find the corpse of Amelia Earhart under Lionel’s mattress, I’m sure he has a number of them hidden there.

Clark walked around the front of the pick up and held his arm out for her. Chloe unconsciously licked her lips as she let her eyes slide over his form. He was dressed as a white knight and he looked fine indeed. How appropriate. With a large smile plastered on her face, Chloe practically skipped over to him and slipped her arm through his. Since Pete was on vacation with his family, Clark was her sole escort.

“Chloe, I’m really surprised. You actually seem like your looking forward to, wait… how did you put it? ‘A hormonally-charged grope fest’.” He said as he led her up the steps toward the crowded entrance to the mansion. Loud music emanated from inside. She looked at him and laughed.

    “You know, I think I am…”

“Uh oh. I think I’m going to have to keep an eye on you. Wouldn’t want you to get caught rummaging through Lex’s underwear drawer.” Clark grinned.

Chloe put her finger to her lips and pretended to think. “Well, that depends. Does he keep any secrets in there?”

Clark laughed and led her inside. “By the way, Chloe. You look really nice.”

Chloe grinned widely at the unexpected compliment. “Thanks Clark. So do you.” She blushed.

Chloe looked down at her costume. She was Alice in Wonderland. Although, she was pretty sure Alice wouldn’t have worn a skirt this short. Or white knee socks with black high heels.

“You know, I still maintain that you would have looked cute as the white rabbit.” Chloe grinned, scoping out the crowd. The large room (which looked like it had been professionally decorated – which it most likely was) that Lex had chosen was packed. Costumed teenagers had taken over the place. She wondered if Lex was going to grace the crowd with his presence.

“Yeah. I don’t think so there, Chloe. I just can’t see myself wearing white rabbit ears and trying to talk to Lana.”

Chloe rolled her eyes. Oh well. At least I had his attention for a second. She saw Clark stop looking around as he spied the girl in question. She leaned closer to Clark to get a better look. Lana was wearing a medieval dress and she smiled when she saw Clark. Oh, for the love of… She looked beautiful. Chloe sighed. Of course she did. There seemed to be a light shining on her, making her stand out from the crowd and Chloe examined the ceiling to find the source. How the fuck does she do that?

“Hi, guys!” Lana said as she wandered over, light following her all the way. “Hey, Clark. We match.”

Chloe rolled her eyes and watched them both stare longingly at each other.

“Yeah, we do.” Clark replied, ever so eloquently.

Lana batted her eyes and smiled brilliantly at him. “It must be fate.”

Chloe threw up her hands, feigning excitement. Oh for crying out loud! I can’t take anymore of this! “Okay, have fun, guys!”

“You too, Chlo.” Clark replied, not taking his eyes off of Lana.

Chloe stalked off shaking her head. Disgusting. When she was far enough of the soap opera that is Clana, she turned her attention back to the crowd. Guess Lex’s party is a hit. Chloe watched the crowd have fun. Gee. I guess I am in wonderland. She shrugged off the melancholy that threatened to overcome her and bit her lip. A picture of the crowd would make a great front page picture for the next issue of The Torch. She smiled and took her camera out of her bag. She snapped a few pictures, mostly of individual couples dancing and one of Clark and Lana talking which Clark would probably want her to frame. Chloe cocked her head and looked for a place high enough to take a picture of the large crowd. She spied a chair and decided that it would have to do. Chloe climbed up until she was standing on the chair and smiled as she took numerous pictures, wiggling a little to the music. This was going to look great on the cover. Maybe she could even put a two page spread in the next issue! That would be sweet. I wonder…

A velvety voice interrupted he thoughts.

“Miss Sullivan. Are you always working?”

Chloe stopped taking pictures and grinned. Wow, looks like he is gong to grace us with his presence.

Chloe considered his question. “Well, Mr. Luthor, you call it work. I call it fun.” She answered and looked down at him for the first time. He was looking up at her and wearing black pants, an open ruffled shirt and a black jacket. He was also wearing a mask and a black hat and he was hardly recognizable. The Phantom of the Opera. He was smirking up at her, his head coming roughly up to her stomach. She watched as his head lowered, hiding his face beneath his hat. Is he sizing me up? She watched he raised his black gloved hand and stroked her thigh lightly with his index finger. She whimpered and nearly fell off of the chair. His head jerked back up to look at her, a knowing smile on his face. His hand was clamped a little further up her thigh than was necessary to steady her.

“You think its fun displaying your panties to your entire class?” Lex said as he held his other hand up to her. Her eyes widened. Oh. Fuck. Me. And for one horrifying moment she thought that she had hastily hauled on her huge pink underwear with the little butterflies on them when Clark came to her door ten minutes early. She then remembered she wore the pink lacey ones instead – just in case. Ah, well. The lesser of two evils… She took his hand gracefully and hopped down from the chair. It was a good thing that it was dark, because she could feel the blood rushing into her cheeks. Oh, thank you, Lord, for giving me the gift of the saucy comeback.

“Oh, the price I pay for a great, front page picture. And apparently,” Chloe said as she turned to face him. “the only one I was displaying my panties to was you. And that’s because you were looking.”

Lex grinned and leaned towards her. “If something that nice to look at is in front of my face, I can’t help myself.”

Chloe’s jaw dropped. I can’t believe he just said that! Is he drunk?

“Well…uh…thanks?” Chloe squeaked. “Are you drunk?”

Lex chuckled and let his eyes roam the rest of her form. Chloe was to busy mentally berating herself for the not so smooth come back to notice. She was becoming flustered and decided a hasty escape was desperately needed.

“So, thanks for the lovely party, Lex. I’m just going to take a few more pictures.” Chloe stated awkwardly and began to back away. She gave him a small wave before turning and practically fleeing into the crowd. She heard his amused laughter behind her. What the hell happened to my God given gift of the saucy comeback? She put her hands to her face. I am never going to be able to face him without magically turning into a tomato ever again. Chloe decided that she needed to visit the little girl’s room. Not to hide out or anything as juvenile as that, just to lay low until she was able to talk herself out of her embarrassment. Lex was a notorious ladies man and flirting was second nature to him, surely he wouldn’t be interested in a girl like her. I’m not his type. I have much too much intelligence. Chloe smiled brightly to herself and she left the crowd and entered a long, dark hallway. She was starting to make herself feel better already.

Chloe was half way down the hallway when, out of nowhere, a black leather clad hand clamped over her mouth. She tried to scream, but it came out a more of a whimper that nobody could hear over the loud music of the party. Her assailant put another overpowering arm across her chest and started to drag her back into the shadows. Oh fuck no. Chloe struggled as hard as she could, but to no avail. This guy wasn’t giving up. He was wearing too much cologne and she was having trouble breathing. He smelled of decay and she was having trouble breathing. Some of the pressure was released when he removed his arm from her chest to dig in his coat pocket. Now was her chance. Chloe elbowed him as hard as she could and when his grip on her mouth weakened, she made a run for it. She was almost back to the crowd when he tackled her. She fell to the floor hard, her white headband flying, and she started screaming but no one could hear her. She was viciously yanked onto her back as her assailant straddled her, one hand squeezing her neck. She couldn’t breathe. Tears ran down her temples and into her hair. Both of her hands where locked onto his arm, trying to lift it so that she could breathe. Finally, he hauled out a syringe from his pocket and the tip of it disappeared into the shadows of his hood. He spit the top off and brought the sharp needle down to her neck. She tried to stop the needle, filled with unidentified liquid, from penetrating her neck, but she was too weak. She needed air. She felt a sharp pain in her jugular when he jabbed it into her flesh and a burning sensation when he emptied the needle into her body. Her arms fell to the floor and the face that was shrouded by the hood started to blur until it faded to black.

    Present Time

    Chloe screamed.

And Chloe kept screaming as the ghastly torso of her old gym teacher climbed up her tied body, it’s sticky hands clutching Chloe’s flesh to further it’s course. It was salivating and Chloe felt the cold saliva drop onto her bare legs. She tried to kick the torso off of her, but her legs were restrained so she only managed to wiggle the torso, making it’s spinal cord and leaking insides slap against her lower thighs. It reached up and grasped the neck of apron and pulled itself up onto her stomach. It sickeningly made it’s way toward her head and neck. Chloe’s throat was getting sore from screaming and Mrs. Russo opened it’s mouth, ready to sink it’s teeth deep into her bruised jugular. Chloe turned her head and shut her eyes. She didn’t want to watch.

But the pain didn’t come. There was a horrible, guttural moan and Chloe felt herself being sprayed with something cold and viscous. The weight was suddenly removed from her body and she finally found the courage to open her eyes. She was covered in decaying blood. The now lifeless torso of Mrs. Russo, who had a wooden chair leg embedded in her head, was being lifted off of her and dumped on the ground. She looked up into the face of her savior.

“Lex!” Chloe cried out, her relief escaping in sobs.

“Chloe! Chloe, are you okay? Did it hurt you?” He asked as he kneeled on the bed and looked into her eyes. She shook her head, but he examined his way down her body anyway, hastily wiping away blood where he thought there might be a wound. “I just want to check.” He explained, running his hands down both of her legs. “I’m not sure what the fuck that thing is. It might be carrying some sort of disease.”

“That was my old gym teacher. She died six months ago…” Chloe whimpered, pulling on her restraints.

Lex whipped his head around to look her I the eye. What do you mean, that was your old gym teacher? That was human?”

“It was human. Like I told you, she’s dead. She was in a car accident. She died on impact, at least that’s what they told the school, anyway…Lex?” Chloe wanted to continue this conversation after she was free from her restraints. She wanted to wipe the putrid blood from her face. It smelled disgusting.

Lex sat back on his heels to think. He was still wearing the black pants and white ruffled shirt of his costume.

“Lex…” Chloe whimpered, softly crying. “Can you let me out of these things please?”

Lex was snapped out of his thoughts. “Shit! Sorry, Chloe…” He apologized as he undid her leg restraints first. He then moved above her and undid her wrist restraints. Chloe took a deep breath and decided she wanted off the stained bed. While rubbing her sore wrists, she swung her legs off of the bed and stood up. Her legs didn’t want to cooperate and she promptly fell down. She landed hands first into the remains of the first occupant of the stained mattress and she screamed. It was a girl. Lex quickly picked her up off of the floor and hugged her, trying to calm her down.

“Shhh, Chloe. It’s okay. Just don’t look.”

“Don’t look?! Don’t look!?” She snapped, her words muffled by his chest. “If you hadn’t noticed, I was just face and eyes into that corpse on the floor and you don’t want me to look?!”

Lex laughed despite himself and he hugged her closer. “Glad to see you still have that mouth.”

“Lex,” she whispered. “Look at her! She looks like she was wearing an Alice costume too. Do you know anybody with mental stability issues that has a penchant for Alices?” Chloe looked up at him. “And Phantoms?”

“My mind is drawing a blank.” Lex answered, and stroked her hair on last time before he let her go.

    Chloe pouted. “Yeah, me too.”

She looked down at herself. She was covered in gore. She tried to brush some of the gook off, but she only managed to smudge it over her dress and bloody up her hands. Chloe let out a disgusted groan. Lex turned away from the window and saw her predicament.

He perked an eyebrow. “Don’t worry Chloe, you look good in red.”

Chloe rewarded him with a sarcastic smile and flipped him her bloody middle finger. Lex snorted and turned back to the window. He opened the heavy, royal blue curtains and, to his dismay, found dirty metal instead of a view.

“Fuck!” He growled, ripping the curtains back into place. “What do you remember, Chloe? How did you get here?”

Chloe shrugged. “The last thing I remember, I was walking down a hall in you mansion looking for the washroom…”

“Are you sure it was the washroom you were looking for? Are you sure you weren’t looking for my evil lair?”

Chloe gave him a grin. “Yeah, jackass, I’m pretty sure it was the washroom. Anyway, I was attacked. He was choking me and then he stuck me with a needle. Then I woke up…”

Chloe looked over at the bloody bed and felt her stomach churn. She shut her eyes and tried to fight the lightheadedness that threatened to steal her consciousness again. She felt his hands on her arms and she pressed her head against his chest once more.
“Well,” Lex said, “That explains the nasty bruises on your neck.” He touched them gingerly and Chloe winced. “Bastard.” He whispered under his breath.

    “Can we go somewhere else?”

Lex took her arm and led her out of a side door which connected to another room. Lex’s room. No bloody corpses on the floor. Well, that’s fair! Half of Attila the Gym teacher tried to eat my brains and he got a clean bed! Chloe was just about to express that thought when she glanced at the bed. It had restraints similar to hers. The wrist restraints were bloody. Chloe furrowed her brow and captured his free hand in her own. She lifted up to see. It was raw and bleeding, like the skin had been vigorously rubbed off.

“Lex! What happened to you?” Chloe exclaimed, capturing his other wrist and examining it. The same. She spied a chair in the corner of the room and led him over before he could say a word. “SIT!” She ordered and pushed him gently along.

Lex, a half smile gracing his features, obeyed. “I never thought there would come a day where I would be taking orders from you.”

Chloe ignored his comment and untied her apron from the back.

    “Lex, what happened?”

“Well,” He started explaining as she attempted to rip the still white material away from the blood stained parts. “I was told that there was a phone call for me and as I was walking to my office, I noticed your headband on the ground. I bent down to get it and jabbed with a needle from behind.”

“Fuck!” Chloe exclaimed and flung her apron on the floor. It was no use. She wasn’t strong enough to rip the material. She looked around the room and was finally struck with an idea. Her knee socks. She looked down and found that they were still relatively clean. She looked up at Lex. “How long ago did you wake up?”

“About an hour ago, give or take.” Lex said as he watched her kick off her shoes. She placed her foot beside him on the chair and hastily slid down her knee sock. Lex raised his eye brows in surprise. She repeated the procedure with the other leg. She glanced up at him and did a double take. He was staring at her leg. You have got to be fucking kidding me. She smiled to herself. She kneeled down in front of him and turned her socks inside out. Then she took her socks and started to tie them around his wrists to stop the bleeding.

“Then?” She asked while she tied his first wrist.

“Then I heard you screaming, Chloe. I had worked on my restraints since I had regained consciousness, but when I heard you scream….” He paused. Chloe had stopped fumbling with his wounds to stare wide – eyed at him. “I thought I was going to listen to you die. I couldn’t let that happen.”

Chloe stared at him for a long moment after the words had left his mouth. She leaned forward and gave him a hug. She felt him rest against her and she let go of him. She kissed his cheek before she leaned back.

“Thank you, Lex. You saved my life.”

He gave her a half smile. “You don’t have to thank me, Chloe. You would have done the same for me.”

“I’m really sorry that you’re here, Lex, but I’m glad you are. I don’t want to be alone.” Chloe whispered, staring into his eyes, her own welling with tears. He smiled at her, not a happy smile, but an understanding smile. She sighed, embarrassed, and looked down to his wrist in her hands.

“So, Lex. Where the fuck are we?” Chloe asked, continuing to bind his wrists, once again trying to escape the intimate moment.

    “I have no clue.”

“Well. Fuck.” Chloe answered, looking around the room. It was larger than the one she was placed in, but just as dirty and old. There were three doors. One was open and led to the room that they had just left.

“Alright, then.” Chloe stood up and slipped back on her heels. “Which do you want to try first, door number one or door number two?”

“Chloe, I think we should prepare ours selves a little more before we go exploring. We don’t know what’s out…”

Chloe opened door number two and Lex rolled his eyes. “Chloe, Jesus, what the fuck did I just say? Do you listen to anyone besides the voice in your head telling you to do stupid things?”

“Oh Lord, it’s a washroom!” Chloe exclaimed, ignoring him and flicking on the light switch. Florescent lights buzzed on and Chloe stepped in heading for the sink. “If this place doesn’t have running water, then we’re definitely in hell.”

She let out a whoop of joy when water sprayed out of the facet, brown and wonderful. Lex was standing in the doorway, staring at her.

    “Chloe, are you in shock?”

“Chloe stopped and looked at him, considering the possibility. “No, I don’t think so. But I smell like death and brown water is better than rot.” She turned back to the facet and started splashing the water on her face. It tasted of mud. Lovely, not decaying mud. Lex watched her with a disgusted look on his face. Chloe stood and turned toward him.

“Listen, Buster! This water is fine. I just had a rotted corpse’s spinal column wiggling around between my legs. My standards are now located in the basement!” Chloe scolded him, unbuttoning her blue and red dress. Lex’s eyes went wide.

“Chloe! What are you doing!? Not that I’m complaining, but maybe we should wait for a more appropriate time!” Lex exclaimed, trying to hold back a grin.

Chloe gave him a disgusted look and slipped out of her dress, flicking it in the sink. “I would rather go around wet and cold than have Mrs. Russo’s brains on me any day, thank you very much! Stop looking at me! Turn around!”

Lex ignored her command and leaned against the door frame watching Chloe as she splashed water on herself and attempted to get the brain matter off of her dress. Chloe felt his eyes scanning her form and then it hit her. What the sweet fuck am I doing! She started to laugh and leaned against the sink.

“What’s so funny?” Lex asked, raising his eyebrows.

“What’s so funny?” Chloe asked, her voice shrill. “I’m standing here half naked in front of Lex Luthor because I’m covered in the brain matter of my dead gym teacher who tried to eat me.”

Chloe started to cry and sunk to her knees. Lex knelt down next to her and gathered her into his arms, rocking her. “Oh, Chloe. Please don’t fall apart on me now.” He whispered, kissing her forehead. “I’ll get you out of here. I swear.”

Chloe stopped crying and took a few deep breaths. “Okay. I’m sorry. I’m not what you call brave. Fantastically witty, but not brave. I’m so scared…” Chloe said as she started to cry once more, much to her effort not to.

“I don’t know. I don’t think you give yourself enough credit. You’ve been pretty fearless in order to get one of your stories. Just imagine what a great front page story this is going to be. Fuck that party. This is award winning.”

Chloe stopped crying and cocked her head at the mention of “award winning”. Hot damn! He’s good. She wiped her face and grinned at him.
“So, you know you’re good, don’t you? Ruined a perfectly good break down with your common sense.” Chloe said and Lex laughed.

“Yeah. I’ve been told that before. They weren’t really talking about my common sense though” He responded, perking his eyebrow naughtily. Chloe shook her head and grinned.

They both stood, Lex helping Chloe stand. He turned off the tap and the brown water stopped soaking the dress. He took the sopping mess out of the sink and rung it out as best he could. Chloe stood shivering in her small, lacy, pink bra and underwear set, trying not to think. Panic was not a good thing right now. He shook out the dress and it was surprisingly clean looking for a wash in mud water.

“Arms up.” Lex commanded in a soft, no nonsense tone. Chloe obeyed and he slipped the damp, blue dress over her head. When it was in place he started doing up the buttons. Chloe watched his face with wide eyes. He smiled to himself, his hands fumbling with her small buttons.

“What are you thinking?” Chloe asked.

Lex looked up at her, a mischievous look in his eyes. “I was just wondering if Gabe knows that you have underwear like that.”

Chloe chuckled. “I don’t think he wants to know what kind of underwear I wear. He still brings me back a Teddy Bear whenever he goes on a business trip.”

Lex grinned at her. “How about we get the fuck out of here.”

Chloe nodded. “Mr. Luthor, that is a brilliant idea.”

They left the bathroom and entered the bedroom.

Chloe checked behind the curtains while Lex stood in the centre of the room and ran a hand over his face. Chloe knocked on the metal that was in place of the glass. It sounded muffled.

“Alright. What do we know?” Lex asked, the question directed toward himself more than Chloe. “We know that there maybe more reanimated corpses around. Maybe somebody is doing experiments. We also know that this isn’t just a house. We might be in a research lab. But why is it done up like the Addam’s family guest house?”

Chloe backed away from the window and let the purple curtains fall back into place. She shook her head. “Lex, I don’t think we’re in a lab. It sounds like there is something heavy behind the metal. I think we might be underground. Even the smell. I don’t know. It smells kind of earthy.”

Lex strode over to the window and pushed the curtains away and knocked. “Yeah. You may be right.”

Chloe sighed and sat down on a dusty chair. “I did have a watch, but whoever did this took it. How long do you think we’ve been here?”

“I don’t know. Not too long. My people are definitely out looking for us. And I don’t think Clark would take your disappearance lightly. He has a knack of finding people in the nick of time. Let’s hope his string of luck holds out.”

Chloe smiled and nodded, not as reassured as she would have liked to be. “So what’s the plan?”

“Well, I suppose we should see if we can get out of here. Maybe whoever did this doesn’t know we’re free yet.” Lex said, scanning the ceiling. “It doesn’t look like there are any cameras, but they could be hidden.”

“Alright then. Let’s do it.” Chloe said, standing up.

“Chloe, I think you should stay…” Lex started. He trailed off when he saw Chloe turn and glare at him.

“No.” She deadpanned. “I’m going with you. I’m not staying here alone. I’ll cry again. Do you want me to start crying again? Cause I’ll do it!”

“Fine,” Lex sighed, examining the chair that Chloe had just been sitting on. “But you stay behind me.”

With a yell of effort, Lex broke the chair against the wall. Lex picked up some pieces and handed one to Chloe.

“I suppose it’s too much to ask for a decent weapon… Should have had my gun hidden better.” He muttered as he grabbed Chloe’s arm and lead her to the one door that they haven’t tried.

“Alright, Captain Courageous, you don’t have to lead me by the elbow. I’m not a moron.” Chloe quipped as she tried to remove her elbow from his grip. “Wait a second; you were packing heat at a high school DANCE?”

    “Chl…”

The door crashed open and a man fell through, slamming the door behind him. Chloe screamed and Lex jumped into action, hugging Chloe and shielding her with his body. He stood facing her and looking over his shoulder at the man who had scared the living shit out of them. Chloe’s head was tucked under his chin, her wide eyes looking at the intruder from over Lex’s shoulder.

Lex then pushed Chloe back and raised the wooden stake, business end pointing down at the intruder. Lex took a couple of steps forward, preparing to kill the man. The mystery guest raised his head and Chloe recognized him. It was Arthur Crane, the school janitor. He was about Lex’s age and he didn’t strike Chloe as the most caffeinated coffee at the Talon, to put it delicately. He was quite and shy, an introvert, and unfortunately, around high school students, that is not a good way to be. A lot of the Neanderthals…er…jocks picked on him constantly. He never stood up for himself. Chloe always tried to be aware of his presence, which was hard at the best of times, and be nice to him.

“No!” Chloe exclaimed, placing a hand on Lex’s forearm to stop him. “I know him! He’s not one of them.”

Lex, who looked positively disappointed about not getting to kill something, sighed and lowered his hand. Chloe knelt down beside Arthur.

“Arthur, are you okay?” She said as she helped him up by the arm. Arthur smiled and nodded.

    “Hi, Chloe.”

“Arthur, do you remember how you got here?” Chloe asked, aware of Lex behind her, no doubt giving Arthur a good once over.

“N…no. I woke up in the hall. There was something there. I think I killed it, but it was dark.” Arthur said, seemingly shrinking into himself. Chloe had to bite down the urge to slap him on the arm and tell him not to slouch. “Chloe, are you all right?”

“Do you remember where you were last? Were you at my house?” Lex asked before Chloe could open her mouth to answer. She gave Lex, who was now standing beside her, a look of mild annoyance. She looked back at Arthur and settled for nodding.

Arthur seemed to ponder this. He looked confused. “No, Mr. Luthor. I was at home. I don’t remember nothing else.”

“You don’t remember being attacked?” Chloe asked, her reporter’s instinct kicking in.

“No, I went to bed early. Then I woke up in the hall.” Arthur answered, seemingly telling the truth.

“Were you tied up?” Chloe cut in before Lex could.

“No. I was just lying in the hall.”

Lex looked confused at this. “Why didn’t you get tied to a bed like us? Do you know where we are?”

“Chloe, you were tied to a bed? Are you okay?” Arthur asked, concern etched on his face.

Lex rolled his eyes and looked at Chloe, eyebrow raised.

“Ummmmm. Yeah, Arthur, I’m fine. Do you know were we are?” Chloe added after glancing at Lex. Awkward.

Arthur shook his head and shrugged. Great. Chloe gave him a partial smile and handed him her chair leg. She stepped back and Lex put his hand on her shoulder.

“Alright. We're going to try and get out of here, Arthur. But we don’t know how many of those things there are, so we gotta protect ourselves. Are you up for it?” Chloe asked, but Arthur was staring at Lex’s hand on her shoulder. “Arthur? You up for it?”

He was startled back into reality and nodded. Chloe walked to the pile of chair on the floor and picked up another piece. She nodded at Lex. She was ready. Lex strode to the door and Arthur quickly got the hell out of his way. He reached the door knob and stopped abruptly. He turned back and looked at Arthur with a look of renewed suspicion.

“Hey, Arthur? Aren’t you wondering how we got here? Because you didn’t ask us.” Lex asked, trying to look menacing.

Chloe rolled her eyes. “And when was he supposed to ask us, Lex? Before or after we gave him the third degree? Let’s just try and get the hell out of here.”

Lex looked at Arthur with a suspicious look that abruptly turned to absolute disgust when he saw him looking at Chloe like she was the Virgin Mary.

“Fine. Let’s go.” He said shortly and quietly opened the door, peeking out into the dark hallway. He slipped out, then Arthur, then Chloe.

The hallway was dark, just as Arthur had said. It was long, with four doors on each side and one door on each end. The décor was the same as the rooms. It was quiet and Chloe jumped when Lex put his hand on her elbow. They left the door open to give them a little light.

“I think we should head that way. Let’s try the door at the end first.” Lex whispered and directed her attention to the door closest to them. She looked back to the far end of the hall. In the shadows she could see the thing that Arthur had killed resting on the floor. She shivered and voiced her agreement to Lex.

    “Yeah. Good idea”

Arthur led the way to the door, Lex and Chloe following closely behind him. Their footsteps were muted by the thick, dirty carpet that the hall boasted. At least something was working for them. They reached the door and Chloe looked back. Oh Shit.

“Lex?” Chloe said warily, walking back a couple of steps. It was gone. The thing that Arthur killed was gone. “Lex!” She said louder, this time getting his attention.

    “What?”

“That thing is gone.” Fear tinged her voice.

Lex looked back at her. “What thing…” And then he knew what Chloe was talking about. “Jesus!” Lex, weapon raised, started to walk back to investigate. Chloe told him not to be so fucking stupid and to come back.

    And Arthur opened the door.

They must have been waiting behind the door. They grabbed Arthur as soon as he opened the door. He let out one yelp, dropped the chair leg and disappeared into the snarling mass of creatures. They spilled out into the hall quickly. Faster than Chloe thought they could move. They were decomposing and falling apart! Who knew they were ready to compete in a freakin’ marathon?

Chloe screamed and ran toward Lex, who was screaming at her to get her ass in gear. The things starting to follow her. Apparently they considered a screaming girl scampering away from them a target. She caught up with him and he snaked an arm around her waist and swung her in front of him. They ran down the hall toward the door on the other end, the creatures in hot pursuit. They had almost reached the door when the zombie-that-Arthur-apparently-didn’t-kill burst out of the second last room to the left. Before Chloe knew what she was doing, she had raised the chair leg and smashed against the side of it’s skull. It went down for the count and Chloe and Lex jumped over it and scrambled to the second door at the end of the hall.

    It was fucking locked.

Lex yelled out a few obscenities and ran to the nearest door to the right. It was open and he charged in, Chloe following. Lex slammed the door just as the filthy mob had reached them, a few rotting fingers falling to the floor in the process. He put his back to it while Chloe searched for the lock. It was flimsy and wouldn’t hold much longer against the undead crowd battering it. She looked around the room. It was smallest of the three that they had seen, with only one other door and sparse furnishings. She ran to the largest chair and dragged it over to the door. As Lex fixed it against the door, under the knob, Chloe backed up into the room. They knew they were in here. They wouldn’t leave. They would get in and tear them apart. They would eat them. Just like Arthur. Stop it! She put her hands to her ears and shut her eyes. Maybe this wasn’t happening. Maybe she was just as crazy as her mother. Maybe she was safe in her room in Belle Reve waiting for her next round of meds.

Chloe hit the floor hard and cried out. Her cheek had smacked against the rock-solid floor and she could almost feel the bruise spreading on her fair skin. Something had seized her ankle and was dragging her back. Chloe looked back over her shoulder and saw a man with a dead man’s grin spreading sickly over his dull face. He was dragging her under the bed with him. No fucking way, asshole. She vaguely heard Lex shouting something as she brought her knee up and jammed the heel of her shoe deep into the dead man’s eye socket. The body went limp and she felt Lex’s hands beneath her arms, lifting her up. He held her against him, his arms found there way just below her breasts.

“Jeez, Chloe. Remind me never to piss you off.” Lex quipped, his attempt at humor falling to the floor almost as quickly as the corpse had below them.

Yeah. That’s right. She was tough as fucking nails. Chloe straighten her spine and tried to look like it. She then made the mistake of looking down at her new, black shoes, one of which was covered with zombie gore. Something embarrassingly girly made its way traitorously out of her mouth while she kicked them off her feet. She didn’t want them anywhere near her. She was pretty sure Lex’s new found respect for her had all but dissipated at the horribly pansy Ewwwwwwww! that had just escaped from her mouth. His head was next to hers and she turned to look at him. He looked back at her with amusement and she grinned.

“Oh, shut up!” She laughed, gently elbowing him away from her.

Lex put his hands up in defense. “I didn’t say anything!”

Chloe was making her way to the only other door in the room and turned back to give him a half hearted look of aggravation. A large cracking sound emanating from the door startled them both. The door was slowly giving away.

“What are the chances that door leads outside?” Chloe asked, eyeing their last escape route.

“Probably about as good as our friends out there suddenly deciding they’re vegetarian.” Lex answered, picking up his trusty chair leg and making his way toward the door.

“Oh? That good, huh?” Chloe quipped sarcastically, picking up her clean shoe and examining it. At least it’s better than a chair leg. For a hundred and twenty bucks it damn well better have multiple uses.

“Alright, Chloe,” Lex started, holding the heavy chair leg like a bat. “Here’s the plan. You open the door and get out of the way. We don’t know what’s behind that door.”

Chloe stared at him blankly. “That’s your plan? ‘Open the door and get out of the way’? Hate to break it to you, but that plan sucks.”

Lex let the chair leg drop to his side. His eyes were pointed upward and he looked like he was having an argument with a higher power about whether or not to club her and leave her there for the main course.

“You have a better one, Ms. Sullivan? Please do tell.”

Chloe looked around the room desperately, waiting for the lightening to strike. If there were anymore of those things behind that door, it was suicide to open it. That said, they couldn’t really live out a happy existence in this room. She dropped her shoe and ran over to the drapes and ripped them open, hoping to see the outside world. No luck. She turned back to face Lex, who was patiently waiting with his back against the wall. He shrugged at her. He looked tired.

    “Well?”

And the lightening hit. “Knock on the door.” Chloe stated matter-of-factly, joining him by the door.

    “What?”

“Knock on the door.” Chloe stated again, motioning toward the door with her hand. “If there was anything behind there, then they would try to get in, wouldn’t they?”

Lex stared at her and nodded. He looked surprised. “That’s actually a better idea.”

Chloe beamed. “You know, when I write my story, I’m totally going to include this admission of defeat.”

Lex smiled. “Chloe, if we get out of here, you can write whatever you want.”

“I’m going to hold you to that.”

Lex pounded on the door with his fist and they both held there breath. Silence. Lex put his ear to the door, listening intently. He looked at Chloe and shook his head. Nothing. Lex reached for the handle and slowly opened the door. It swung inside the mystery room and Chloe watched his face fall. He shut his eyes.

    “Lex?” Chloe whispered.

“FUCK!” He screamed and flung the chair leg through the open door. Chloe jumped at his fury. She felt tears threatening to spill down her cheeks. She walked over to him and looked in.

    It was a closet.

“Lex…” Chloe whimpered, panic constricting her throat. She turned to him. He had his two hands on the wall and his head hung between his arms. She could almost feel the vehemence radiating off of him. “Lex, please, we can’t lose it now. Please!”

Chloe ducked under his right arm and stood between him and the wall. He looked up at her. His face was red and his eyes burned with anger. And fear. It made Chloe panic just a little bit more. Lex Luthor was afraid. They were fucked. She placed her fingers on his temple and caressed the smooth skin there. Tears spilled down her cheeks and Lex softened his features. He took one hand off the wall and tenderly brushed the tears from her bruised cheek. Still staring into her eyes, he moved his hand behind her neck and pulled her to him, hugging her fiercely. Chloe buried her face into the crook of his neck and tried to calm down. There had to be a way out of here.

    CRACK!

Lex and Chloe jumped and saw one rotted arm reaching into the room from a splintered hole in the door. Lex pushed her into the closet, followed her in and slammed the door, resting his body against it. They didn’t have any choice. There was no where to hide in the other room and there was no way out of the closet.

“We’re trapped.” She whispered, the words tasting bitter in her mouth.

Lex brought his head back against the door with a thump and stared at Chloe sadly. Chloe slumped against the wall, claustrophobia settling uncomfortably on her brain, stretching languorously like that damned Cheshire cat.

“Lex… we’re going to die, aren’t we?” She asked, barely audible. Lex opened his mouth to say something, but averted his eyes from hers instead.

Chloe felt tears running down her cheeks, the panic a dull ache in her chest. She was too young to die! She didn’t care how clichéd it sounded! She was a senior in high school, this wasn’t fair! But she thought off all the other young people she had known who had died. No. Death was never fair. It was just sad. She thought of all the people who she would never be able to say good bye to, to tell them that she loved them. Her dad, Clark, Pete… She thought of the things that she would never get to do. Guess she would never have that long and distinguished career at the Daily Planet.

She looked at Lex. Similar things seemed to be running through his head. Was that regret on his face? Regret for what he will never accomplish or from all his past sins, she wondered. He looked back at her.

“Chloe, I’m sorry I couldn’t get us out of this…” He whispered, sadly, genuinely. A tear ran down from one of his red rimmed eyes.

Chloe did the only thing that she could think of to comfort him… and herself. She stepped forward and leaned into him. She was inches away from his face. She stared into his eyes for a moment and then kissed him. He responded immediately and what had started as a soft, sweet kiss quickly escalated into something more. His breath hitched as she pressed herself against him and his hands moved to her waist, his fingers digging into her flesh, pressing her firmly against him. A low moan emanated form Chloe’s throat. He felt so good. She wanted him.

They frantically explored each others mouths. She wanted to taste all of him; to live once before she died. Chloe stopped kissing him and leaned back. She grabbed his white shirt and ripped it away from his chest. She explored his muscular chest with her fingers. She scraped her nails against his abs and he sucked in a breath. She looked him in the eye and while she bent down to kiss and explore his chest with her tongue. She felt his heart beat quicken and his hand was soon in her hair, helping her along. He gasped when her tongue ran over his nipple and he pulled her up by her hair until her head was in line with his own. Lex attacked her mouth, bending and grasping the bottom of her short dress. He practically ripped it over her head and flung it behind her. His lips found hers once again as his hands discovered her breasts. He fondled them roughly, and Chloe uttered a small cry. She was wet, the hot slickness between her legs waiting for him. She felt his erection, impossibly hard, against her abdomen. Chloe moaned and moved against it. She wanted him inside her.

Lex growled and swung her around. Before she knew what was happening, Chloe’s back was slammed against the door. They were both breathing hard and Lex pulled the cups of her bra down, exposing her breasts. He bent and caressed each breast, licking and sucking each nipple in turn. She chanted his name and her hands stroked his smooth head as he continued his forcible ministrations.

Desperation and panic made her brave, and Chloe removed her hands from his head and reached for his belt. He kissed his way up from her breasts to her tender neck. She grasped his belt and pulled him aggressively toward her he grunted and stopped kissing her neck. He looked into her eyes, a ghost of a predatory smile on his face. She bit her bottom lip and watched his face while she undid his belt, his sinful expression never faltering.

Behind the closed door, they heard the monstrous horde finally break through the bedroom door, searching for them. Tears fell from Chloe’s wide eyes and she slipped his pants and briefs off of his waist. She kissed him passionately, taking all that he had to give. She felt Lex’s hands move under her ass and he lifted her. She automatically wrapped her legs around his waist, waiting for him to fill her. Chloe watched his face as he grabbed her panties and moved them to one side, letting his fingers slide over her center to see if she was wet enough to receive his thickness. He sighed and shut his eyes, savoring the wetness he felt there. When he looked at her again, she saw nothing but lust and she reached a hand between them and grasped him. She stroked him a little before guiding him to her core, vaguely wondering if his large cock would hurt at first. Virginity sucks.

The tip of him was pushing into her and Chloe let him go, removing her hand from between them and placing both her hands on his shoulders. They stared in each others eyes as he entered her. Chloe sighed, savoring the pain; savoring the pleasure; savoring him. She clutched his shoulders harder, her nails scratching his skin, leaving angry, red marks. Still staring into her eyes, he quickened his rhythm until he was pounding into her. He placed one hand beside her on the door and angled her hips out, so the door wouldn’t rattle with each thrust. They may be faced with the issue of their own mortality, but that didn’t mean that they wanted to alert the enemy to there location. The only sound was their combined panting and the slapping of skin on skin.

Chloe was in heaven. She raised her hands and grasped the door frame above her, her sizable breasts bouncing in front of Lex’s face. He captured one nipple in his mouth and Chloe shut her eyes and threw her head back, biting her lip against the cry that threatened to rip from her throat. When she opened her eyes she was staring at the ceiling. On the ceiling she saw something very interesting. An air vent, hidden in the shadows near the back of the closet, nearly imperceptible in the light shining from the in between the door and its frame. She smiled. She’d tell Lex… later. She felt him bite her nipple and she arched her back. She could feel the tightness inside her and she started to pant. She felt Lex’s hand on the back of her neck. He lifted her away from the door and carried her further into the shadows of the closet. Her back was against a cold wall once again. They were directly beneath the vent. Both of Lex’s hands moved to her hips, helping her to meet his thrusts. The tightness felt like it was about to break.

    “Lex…” She said in a strangled whisper. “I…I think…I’m…”

Lex smiled and clamped a hand over her mouth just as Chloe arched her back and came against him, her cry barely audible. Lex grunted as her walls tightened around him. He thrust three more times and came inside her, burying his head in her neck.

With the exception of their combined pants, the small closet was silent. Lex slowly lowered Chloe to her feet. There was an emptiness inside her now that she didn’t particularly like. She missed the feel of him inside her. They stood for a moment, wrapped in each other’s shaking arms, listening to the unnatural creatures shambling about outside. And then Chloe remembered the vent. Oh yeah! Salvation! She released Lex and looked into his eyes. She gave him a wide, happy smile and pointed up. He looked confused and followed the direction of her finger. He saw the vent and sighed with relief. He looked back down at her, his eyebrow cocked.

“And exactly when did you discover that?”

Chloe rolled her eyes and tried to look innocent. “Well, kind of in the middle, maybe…”

Lex looked at her like she had ten heads. He opened his mouth to question her about it and she interrupted him.

“Well, I didn’t want you to stop, now did I?” She asked, not able to maintain a straight face. He chuckled and put his forehead to hers.

“You were a virgin, weren’t you.” Lex stated. It wasn’t in the form of a question. Chloe nodded.

“Chloe, when we get out of here, I’m going to make love to you the right way.”

She looked up at him and smiled widely. “I’m going to hold you to that, too.”

They quickly got dressed. I would make a deal with Satan to be in a bathroom right now. She grinned to herself.

“What?” Lex asked, fastening his belt.

“Oh, I was just thinking that I would make a deal with your father to be in a bathroom right now.”

He grinned. “You were thinking Satan, right?”

Chloe slipped her dress over her head. “Am I that obvious?”

“No, I was thinking the same thing.”

Chloe giggled and looked up at the vent. She rubbed her hands together. “Alright, give me a boost.”

She was soon sitting on Lex’s shoulders, (his head between her legs, which was lovely) examining the vent. To her dismay, she saw that it was screwed on.

“Shit! Two screws.” She informed Lex.

“Use one of your buttons, it should work.” He responded, unconsciously rubbing her thigh.

She nodded and worked on getting the top button from her dress loose.

“See, now I now why you’re the head of a billion dollar company. Sometimes you have pretty good ideas.” She teased, getting the button loose and setting to work on the first nail.

“Gee, thanks.” Lex responded sarcastically. “I’m glad that I’ve earned the respect of the award winning editor of her high school newspaper.”

She laughed, dropping the first screw into Lex’s out reached hand. “Hey, watch it! This reporter is going to have a hell of a story to tell once she gets out of here. You want to be written in a good and heroic light, don’t you?”

“Hey! I have been nothing but good and heroic!”

“Yeah, you have. Except for the part we’re you nailed me against the wall. Well, actually, I can’t say you weren’t good, but my father probably wouldn’t enjoy reading about that, so I’m gonna have to leave that out.”

Lex laughed, taking the other screw. “Hey, YOU came on to ME!”

“True enough, but I don’t think that would be any consolation to dad, so… HA!” Chloe said, interrupting herself when the vent had come loose in her hands. She passed it down to Lex, a cloud of dust accompanying it.

Lex tapped her leg and she swung it over his head, sitting on one of his shoulders. He boosted her up enough to crawl into the air vent. The quarters were tighter than the closet, but at least this led somewhere. She turned around and extended a hand down to Lex. She helped pull him up until his other hand had grasped the ledge and he lifted himself into the vent shaft.

They crawled left and soon came to a shaft intersecting their own. Chloe looked down the vent in the middle of the crossing shafts and discovered that they were over the hallway. Things that Chloe could barely see shambled about below them. They headed right, the direction which would hopefully take them into the locked room. It had to be locked for a reason. And the room in the other direction was crawling with the undead, so that wasn’t even an option.

They came to the vent looking down into the mystery room. Chloe held her breath and looked down. The room was dimly lit kind of looked like an old fashioned country kitchen, except there were a lot of large boxes stacked up against the wall. The room was empty. So far so good.

“It looks clear.” She whispered to Lex, who seemed to be enjoying the view of her behind. She rolled her eyes at him when he turned his head to look at her. He shrugged. He crawled up beside her and looked down. Then, with the heel of his hand, he pushed the vent into the room. It fell to the floor with a crash. They froze for a moment, listening for signs that someone, or something, had heard them. Satisfied that they were in no immediate danger, Lex jumped down and looked around the room. He looked up and motioned for Chloe to follow him. She put her hands on the far side of the opening and sat on the edge, swinging her legs over. He hopped off, still hanging by her hands. Lex put his arms around her waist and helped her down onto the floor.

Chloe glanced around the large room. There were more boxes than she had originally thought. They were covering nearly all the wall space. There was also a large metal walk in freezer that looked out of place with the country décor and a staircase…A staircase! They smiled and each other and ran to the bottom of the steps. The staircase was long and narrow and looked like it elevated at least two floors. It was made of cold grey metal and the door at the top looked like it belonged to a submarine. The large locking mechanism was on their side.

    Bang!

Chloe and Lex jumped and turned to see that the door to the hall had been opened and the rotting multitude were making there way in. In the middle of the rotting multitude was a very alive looking Arthur. He looked pissed. He was also pointing a gun at them. The decaying bodies stared hungrily at them but stayed put.

“What the fuck, Arthur?!” Chloe yelled. Her fear was not as strong as it once was. Now she was tired and fucking angry. Tears burned in her eyes. “Why did you do this?”

“I loved you, Chloe! I did this for us!” Arthur yelled back, his face contorted and tears streaked his face.

“That’s about the stupidest thing that I have ever heard.” Chloe deadpanned.

“So you decided the best way to show Chloe you care was to drug and kidnap her? Do you love me, too?” Lex asked.

“SHUT UP!” Arthur screamed, the gun in his hands wavering. Lex stepped in front of Chloe and extended a hand behind him to tell her to stay put. “Why did you let him touch you at the party Chloe? I was watching you! I was waiting to ask you to dance. You were flirting with him and it made me sick! You were for me, Chloe! You both needed to suffer.”

“What’s with your friends, Arthur?” Lex spat, anger painfully evident in his low voice.

“I could do it since I was a little kid, since the meteor shower. They could be dead for days and when I touch them, they move. They’re not the same, though. They don’t think. I control them.”

“You can reanimate the dead with a touch of your hand?” Chloe asked, stepping out from behind Lex’s back.

Arthur nodded sadly at her. “My mom thought I was Jesus.”

“I hate to break it to you, Arthur, but you’re not Jesus!” Chloe seethed and Arthur winced.

His face twisted in anger. “You bitch.” He spat. “Should have known you wouldn’t be different. You were always nice to me. I thought we could be happy down here.”

Lex glared at him. “And where exactly is ‘here?’”

“On my farm. My Daddy had a bomb shelter built before he died. He was afraid of another meteor shower – a worse one. Dad died shortly after and my mom lived down here until she died a couple of years ago. Said she felt safe down here. I wanted to be happy with you down here, Chloe, but you ruined everything. You broke my heart. YOU FUCKED HIM IN MY CLOSET!”

Chloe flinched and she started walking toward him slowly. Lex grabbed for her arm but she batted it away.

“I didn’t know that you loved me, Arthur. You never told me.” Chloe said softly. Arthur looked nervous, like he didn’t know how to take her words. Lex followed behind her, wary of the monsters gathered in the doorway, but Arthur wasn’t paying attention to him.

“Chloe, I got so jealous when I saw him flirting with you. I just wanted to make you happy. I knew you’d be happy down here with me, I had to take you.

Something unsettling crawled its way into Chloe’s thoughts.

“That girl – you thought she was me, didn’t you?” Chloe asked quietly.

“She came into the hall before you. I thought she was you. I wasn’t ready, but I jumped her anyway and she saw my face. I didn’t want to kill her, Chloe, but I didn’t have any choice!”

“You always have a choice, Arthur.” Chloe spat as she stepped closer to him, close enough to reach out and touch him. “You killed an innocent girl horribly. Do you how much she suffered? You’re disgusting.”

“SHUT YOUR MOUTH!” Arthur screamed, grabbing her by the hair.

It happened so fast. Chloe cried out, but created the distraction that she had wanted. An instant later Lex was upon Arthur and they were struggling for the gun. The undead horde looked on dumbly, Arthur too busy to tell them what to do. Chloe jumped on Arthur’s back and the gun dropped and slid away from them. Arthur flung Chloe viciously off of his back and she landed on the floor. She watched, horrified as Arthur unhooked a hunting knife from its sheath on his belt and stalked toward Lex, who had picked up the gun. He wasn’t looking at Arthur. Chloe scrambled to her feet and made her way to Arthur quickly. She had to stop him! Chloe grabbed his arm and he swung around to face her, pure rage on his face.

And then time seemed to stop for Chloe Sullivan.

She saw the anger on Arthur’s face morph into horror. She heard Lex screaming her name. She felt hot pain ripping through her stomach. She looked down and saw Arthur’s hunting knife embedded to the hilt in her side, just above her hip, Arthur’s dirty hand still on the handle. Sound seemed to fade. She heard nothing but her own breathing. Arthur let go of the handle and Chloe felt herself falling backwards and hitting the floor. She saw Lex point the gun at Arthur’s head, pure fury on his face. A bullet ripped through his skull, and as Arthur fell to the floor so did all his undead friends. She saw Lex kneel beside her and lean over her, dread in his eyes. And then Chloe knew nothing but blackness.

When Chloe became aware, she was again lying in a bed. Oh Lord, not again. This time was different, though. She wasn’t restrained. She didn’t smell death, only antiseptic. She was in hospital. She felt tired and shaky, and for the life of her, couldn’t remember how she got here. One minute she was a shish kabob and the next she woke up here. Then she heard a cell phone ring. It wasn’t hers. She forced herself to open her eyes. Lex was sitting on the chair next to her bed with a folder spread over his crossed legs and an expense looking pen in his hand. He was dressed in a black dress shirt, black pants and an equally black jacket hung on the back of the chair. He was rifling through the pocket of said jacket searching for his phone. God, he looked good. Chloe had a feeling she didn’t want to know what she looked like.

“Luthor.” He answered in a commanding voice. He listened to the person on the other end of the line and his face became dark. “What they hell to you mean the plane was delayed? How can a private jet be delayed? I told you to get Gabe Sullivan here ASAP. His daughter is in the goddamn hospital. When I tell you to do something, you do it!”

He hung up, looking thoroughly unsatisfied with having to press a button to channel his anger. Slamming the phone down on a receiver would have gotten his point across nicely. He sighed and pressed his thumb and index finger to his eyes.

“You know, I can’t decide if you sound sexy or scary berating one of your employees.” Chloe whispered, startling him. He looked at her and rewarded her with a genuinely happy smile.

    “You’re awake.”

Chloe watched him as he stood up, flinging his folder and pen on the chair. He sat on the edge of her bed and took her hand.

“How do you feel?” He asked, relief shining in his eyes.

Chloe considered the question. “Well, I feel tired and my side hurts dreadfully, but other than that I’m okay.”

Lex nodded. “Well you lost a lot of blood. Your dad is on his way.”

Chloe giggled. “Yeah, I heard. What happened?”

“Well,” Lex answered, speaking softly. “After Arthur stabbed you, I shot him. You had lost consciousness and I carried you up the stairs and out to the road. I flagged down a trucker and he drove us here. The doctors said you’re lucky you be alive. You really scared me. I thought you were dead.”

Chloe nodded and Lex looked down. “I’m sorry you’re in here, Chloe.”

“Lex Luthor. You know as well as anybody that I end up in the hospital every couple of weeks. They keep this room for me.”

Lex smiled. “Yeah. But not because you took a knife to the stomach for me.”

“Took a knife for you? Are you retarded? I didn’t think he’d stab me! He thought he was Jesus for God’s sake!” She joked and squeezed his hand. They stared at each other; both of them knew she was lying.

Lex shook his head. “Oh! I nearly forgot.” He said and bent down by the chair. “I had a feeling that you might need this when you woke up.”

He stood back up and presented her with a large cup of cappuccino from the Talon. It had a pink ribbon on it. Chloe laughed and her side promptly told her to stop.

“Well. You’re just awesome.” She said, staring at the cup and reaching out her hand.

Lex passed it to her. “Are you talking to me or the coffee?” He laughed.

Chloe brought the cup to her lips and pretended to think. “Can’t it be both?”

“I’ll settle for that.” Lex smiled and sat down next to her again. He watched her savoring the coffee.

Chloe sighed. “Oh my. I think I just had an orgasm.”

She rolled her eyes at herself. Can’t you ever think before you talk, Chloe? Is there a filter missing in your brain somewhere?

Lex laughed loudly. “Speaking of which,” He said as his gaze returned to her and drifted down her body. Chloe blushed and tried not to smile too widely. He perked an eyebrow. “We better find out when you’re able to leave the hospital. You have a story to write and I have a promise to keep.”

Lex took the coffee from her (much to her dismay) and placed it on the table beside her bed. He leaned forward and brought his face close to hers. He stroked her cheek and looked into her eyes.

“I’m really glad your okay.” He whispered, trailing his fingers down her jaw line and raising her chin with his thumb. He kissed her, softly, sweetly. Chloe closed her eyes and enjoyed him. His lips felt so damn good. He ended the kiss and Chloe couldn’t help it. She gave him a 100 watt smile.

Their moment was interrupted by someone clearing their throat. Chloe looked over and discovered the Kent’s standing in the doorway. Something tells me that they saw that kiss, she thought, biting her lip to keep in her laughter. Martha was standing with a sweet smile on her lovely face and both Jonathan and Clark wore both matching flannel shirts and shocked expressions. Clark had a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

Lex smiled and patted her hand. “Do you want to explain or shall I?”

Re: Sweet Zombie Jesus! (R) A Halloween Chlex Fic

I thought this was a good Halloween fic. It had gross elements & suspenseful elements but I think you might have had them have sex after they were safe (lol).

ahh..it reminded me the old Smallville days like S1, when the only thing we can bitch around is the lack of big arc and FOTW. It's too weird that i miss them now so much. very nice fic. thanks for sharing with us

Thanks for the lovely reviews, guys! You made my day once again. I read it once again and I spotted some silly spelling mistakes - sorry about that!

I feel I must explain about the closet loving and the timing of it. Although it wasn't the most romantic of settings, what with the undead horde waiting for them outside the closet, I thought to myself, "Hey! Who wouldn't want to have sex with Lex Luthor before they died?"

Kind of wrong, I know. What can I say? I'm a perv and proud of it. Maybe I should get a button that says that...

    Thanks again!

This was awesome!! Amazing really... it had a great blend of scary zombie-ness and great Lex and Chloe interaction. I love how you incorporated Arthur into it too, at first we didn't know whether to be suspicious of him or what... great job! I loved it
