Chloe/Lex
NC-17
Category: Romance, humor, AU, smut
Through Season five of Smallville. post Cyborg
Summary: Chloe discovers her feelings for Lex…
This is my very first try at writing Smallville Fan fiction. Therefore its my first time writing a Chlex fic. I hope I get the characterization down correctly since I’m slowly getting a feel for Chloe and lex, and I hope you all enjoy…
*******
Chapter 1
Chloe half listened to Clark as they sat on his porch swing.
“ I told Lana about what Lex did to Victor, and she still wants his friendship.”
Chloe wondered when Clark decided she was his realtionship counselor. She also wondered if Clark noticed how redundant his relationship complaints were becoming.
“He’s a liar.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow. Well if that isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black. Regardless of his reasons, She thought Clark was the biggest and the worst liar she’s ever met. It wasn’t as though she didn’t trust Clark. She trusts him with her own life. But, half of their friendship was spent with him lying to her, and half of his relationship with Lana was spent with him not revealing the truth to her. So, Clark calling Lex a liar made her think Clark was a bit of a hypocrite. Which wouldn’t be her first time.
“I don’t like the fact that she goes to lex for advice.”
Chloe could understand that. She certainly agreed with it. She didn’t appreciate Lana going to Lex about trying to get her committed into Belle Reeve. The nerve of her. Chloe didn’t care how much Lana thought she was only trying to help. It truly wasn’t her place or her business to do what she did.
“She came to see me when I was in the barn today….”
‘Oh, god. Not another barn story. Anything but that.’
Chloe really didn’t need to hear what Clark was going to say next. She already knew. It was always the same:
‘I love you Clark. Blah blah blah…don’t push me away Clark blah blah…’
It was always the same plot. Different day.
“I want to be with her, but its too complicated.”
Chloe sighed to herself, wishing she’d suddenly gone deaf. It wasn’t as though she was insensitive to Clark’s plight. She really was trying to be the best friend, and be there for him, but she couldn’t take it anymore. She was tired of being put in the middle of such a pointless relationship that was really going nowhere fast.
“I think Lex has feelings for Lana.”
‘Well, Duh!’
Lana told Chloe weeks ago that Lex Luthor was in love with her. She had been shocked to say the least. Then she had felt strangely unsettled with the knowledge of this stunning revelation. She couldn’t fathom why someone like Lex Luthor was in love with someone like Lana Lang.
Well, sure Lana was smart, beautiful, and had a hot body. But, she was also extremely self involved, judgmental, and way too self-righteous.
She and Clark are perfect for each other.
Chloe literally laughed when Lana revealed to her how she told Lex she just wanted to be friends. She found it hilarious because it was the exact same thing Lana told Clark.
Chloe also wasn’t an idiot. She knew what the ‘lets just be friends.’ line meant when it was someone like Lana Lang saying it.
For Lana, Lex is plan B. Her back up plan. He was her break incase of emergency guy. She did it with Clark when she was with Whitney, and now she’s doing it with Lex.
Chloe suddenly felt very sad for Clark. Sad Because she knew without a shadow of a doubt that Lana will end up with Lex Luthor. The more Clark pushed Lana away, the harder Lana will fall into Lex’s arms.
Her mood changed from sadness to that of irrational anger.
What was so special about Lana anyway?
Why was a complex man like Lex in love with her?
Lana was just so simple. She wouldn’t be able to handle complex. She could barely handle Clark, and despite his being an alien, he was as simple as they come.
She didn’t deserve someone like Lex. Lex didn’t need someone like her. He needed someone who understood him. Someone who would stand up to him when the time was needed. Someone who would support him instead of judge him. Someone who would except all of him. Even the scary parts.
Someone like her.
Chloe sat up startled. Where the hell had that thought come from?
“Chloe are you okay?”
She really didn’t know what was wrong with her. She didn’t know why she was angry about lex being in love with Lana anyway. She didn’t even like Lex. Sure he was kind of hot. Okay, he was extremely hot. But, it wasn’t as though she could actually have feelings for him.
“Earth to Chloe?”
Could she?
Her thoughts drifted to the summer she and Lex paired up to take down his father. No one knew how close they had become during that dreadful time. There had been nights when they would talk for hours. They had both confided in each other with issues they hadn’t told anyone. She knew she had seen Lex Luthor without all of his perfectly built defenses he seemed so good at keeping up.
She wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but she had felt somewhat special that she was the one Lex had chose to show that other side of himself to. She knew Lex wasn’t the cold and uncaring man he portrays himself to be.
He hadn’t treated her that way. Up until now that is. After everything was said and done, he had done the worse thing possible. He had completely ignored her existence.
“Chloe, will you answer me?”
That had hurt her. Chloe had tried, and succeeded, in ignoring the pain of what Lex had done. But, now she could feel the ball of hurt grow steadily larger. She didn’t know why he had done that. Was too stubborn to ask. She had briefly wondered if she had done something wrong to anger him, but she couldn’t come up with a thing.
She was so sure Lex had cared for her.
‘But you don’t suddenly ignore the people you so called cared about.’ She thought sadly.
At least she knew she had cared about Lex. A lot. She could readily admit during that summer she would get butterflies in her stomach just from hearing his voice. She could also admit she still cared for Lex. A lot
‘Oh, no.’
She could even admit she loved Lex.
‘Oh, god.’
That’s why she was so angry. She is totally crazily in love with Lex Luthor.
“Oh. My. God!” She breathed.
“What is it?” Clark asked, watching as she gathered her bag while standing up.
“Clark, I have to go.”
Clark frowned confused. “What? Now? But, I’m not done talking.”
“We’ll talk tomorrow!” She called over her shoulder as she hurried down the steps towards her car.
****
It took Chloe five minutes of driving to realize she had no clue where she was driving to. She needed to think. She was still slowly getting over the shock of finding out how she truly felt about Lex.
Why the hell had it taken her so long to figure it out? She figured she had been in some kind of denial, and Lex’s ignoring her certainly didn’t help matters.
“Fuck!” She shouted feeling frustrated. She needed to talk to someone. Someone she could trust. Someone who wouldn’t judge her.
“Lois!”
*****
“Double fuck!”
Chloe sat in her car staring at the parked car in front of her. Her eyes zoomed in on the license plate that read LEX. It would be today and just her luck that the new slash old object of her affection would be the one she would run into.
She glanced over at the Talon knowing he was in there. She had been sitting in her car for fifteen minutes trying to decide if she should go in. She knew she had to speak to Lois, but she couldn’t see Lex. Not yet. She wasn’t ready to be in the same vicinity as he. She was still freaking out at the knowledge she loved him. Seeing him would make her either run screaming from the room or faint. Maybe even both.
“Be brave Chloe. Just go in there, and head straight for Lois. Don’t even glance in his direction.”
She nodded to herself feeling confident. She glanced in the mirror so she could fix her hair. She reached into her bag, and pulled out her lipstick; puckering her lips while taking the top off. She paused, the tube in front of her lips.
“What the hell am I doing?” She asked out loud. Why was she trying to look good? It wasn’t as though he was going to notice her.
She threw the lipstick down, and reached for her bag. Taking a deep breath, she opened her car door.
******
“I need to talk to you.”
Lois smiled amused. “Hello to you too.”
Chloe frowned. “I’m serious Lois.”
Lois took on a look of concern. “What is it?”
Despite herself, Chloe slowly glanced to the far corner of the talon where she knew Lex would be sitting.
There he sat. Dressed in all black, and reading the Daily Planet newspaper; A bored expression on his face. She had never seen anyone look so good at being bored.
She gasped when he suddenly glanced up in her direction.
Their eyes met, and Chloe found herself unable to look away from his handsome face. She knew she must’ve looked like a deer caught in headlights, but Lex held a blank expression. He might as well been asleep. She felt herself grow tense when he slowly raised an eyebrow at her.
“Chloe?”
Chloe glanced back at Lois who was watching her with a worried expression.
“My break is in fifteen minutes. I’ll meet you in my apartment.”
Chloe nodded silently, and glanced back at Lex. Unsurprised to see his attention back on the newspaper; the same bored look back on his face.
****
Chloe nervously paced Lois’s apartment deep in thought. She had to be having some sort of mental breakdown.
There was no way she could be in love with Lex Luthor.
She groaned. “Who am I kidding?”
Why oh why did she have to be in love with someone so unattainable? It wasn’t as though he could love her back or find her even remotely attractive. She wasn’t even his type. She was neither tall nor brunette. She certainly was no Lana Lang.
For that she was proud of.
Chloe’s anger level suddenly rose through the roof. Why did Lana have to get everyone?
Chloe wouldn’t stand for it. Not anymore. It was high time she got what she wanted, and she wanted Lex.
She wanted Lex to love her. More importantly, she wanted to fuck the thought of Lana Lang out of Lex’s mind.
She needed to think this through. She needed a plan.
She looked up as Lois stepped inside the apartment.
“Okay girly. What was so important that you had to steal me away from my lunch break?”
Chloe grabbed Lois by the arms. “I need you to help me get Lex Luthor to fall in love with me.”
Lois’s expressions ranged from confusion to shock to that of stunned amusement. She didn’t ask why. She didn’t judge. She only shrugged.
“Okay.”
TBC- Does it suck?

I never actually thought of that but after you have pointed it out I see how true it is. She's giving Lex just enough hope that something could happen between them to keep him interested on one hand but on the other she told him that she only wants to be friends so it's not her fault if he thinks he has a chance. grr, I hope she ends up alone. With no Clark and no Lex just thinking about how everyone just leaves her.
I loved how Lois just agrees to help Chloe. That's a good friend to have. I can't wait to see what is the plan and if Lex really didn't pay any attention to Chloe in the Talon or was he only acting.
More please :)

Re: Startling Revelation *Part1* (NC-17)
The title is excellent. I had not tried a new story in several months, contenting myself with the updates on my three favorite, long running stories (thanks zannie and blue&sabby for the regular updates) but I felt compelled to read the start of your story because the title is SO intriguing. I am not disappointed at all. I hope we can look forward to regular and numerous updates ?
(BTW I don't watch the show anymore so I am a little confused as to what Lois is doing at the Talon. If someone could PM me with the explanation I'd be grateful).

Re: Startling Revelation *Part1* (NC-17)
Let Operation Preserve the Sexy begin! My deepest gratitude to anyone who can explain a tiny fraction of why Lex is doing what he's doing *whispers* with Lana.
Great first chapter. Loved Chloe's over the top reaction to her sudden feelings and Lois' complete lack of reaction.

Chapter 2
“Hello?”
“Meet me at my apartment at seventeen hundred hours.”
*click*
Chloe stared at her cell phone with a frown. It had been two weeks since she had enlisted Lois’s help. Her cousin had seemed a little too overly excited in helping her come up with a plan, but she was seriously beginning to reconsider enlisting Lois’s help. She just knew whatever it was Lois was planning was going to be a little over the top.
That phone call being the first shred of evidence.
Deciding she should try and get to the bottom of this, she dialed Lois back.
“Hello?”
“What the hell was that?”
Lois sighed. “Seventeen hundred hours is-”
“I know what it is.” Chloe cut in. “What I want to know is what’s with the military time?”
“Come on!” Lois whined. “Don’t ask questions you’ll ruin the effect.”
“The effect of what?” Chloe was becoming suspicious. “Lois, what are you up to?”
Lois paused for a long moment before: “Nothing. Just quit being so damn difficult, and meet me in my apartment at the time I requested.”
“Lois?”
“Lois?”
“Dammit!”
****
“Lois?” Chloe called as she entered the apartment.
“I’m in here!”
Chloe followed the line of clothing from the doorway to the living room with a frown. “Gee, Lois, when is the last time you cleaned this-” she trailed off, and stared in stunned silence at the sight in front of her.
Lois stood there, dressed in fitted army fatigue pants, green tank top, and black combat boots to top it off.
“Have a seat.” Lois said pointing to the chair set up in front of a covered dry erase board.
Chloe placed her bag onto the floor. “Why on earth are you dressed for world war three?”
Lois ignored her, a slight smile coming onto her face. “Welcome to the first briefing of project get Lex.” She announced pulling the cover off of the board, and Chloe laughed.
“Are you kidding me?” Chloe asked. “Lois, this is a little strange don’t you think?”
Lois glared at her. “I’ll have you know that it took me two weeks to get this together. You’re the one who asked for my help, and that’s what I’m doing. Okay?”
“I’m sorry.” Chloe said seeing she was hurting Lois’s feelings. “This is just surreal for me okay? I’ll be quiet and listen to everything you say.”
Lois still glared at her.
“I promise.” She said sincerely.
“Fine,” Lois relented. “But, one more outburst from you and I’m through.”
Chloe knew the threat was an empty one, but she nodded anyway. “No more outbursts.”
“As I was saying before being rudely interrupted. There were a number of options I’ve considered to help you with your situation.”
Chloe nodded. “Okay. Lets here them.”
Lois slapped her pointer onto the board. “First option is we could kidnap Lana Lang, drive all the wau out to Arizona, and drop her off in the middle of the Arizona Desert.”
Chloe stared at her incredulously .
“I know. I know. I figured it was a better idea to try and not get the police involved in this situation. My second option was we kidnap Lex, tie him up, and brain wash him.”
“Lois!”
Lois winced. “Okay, that would probably involve the police too. that’s why I figured we have to go about this the hard way.”
Chloe frowned. “What’s harder than those options you came up with?”
Lois smirked. “Well, I‘ve been doing a little recon on Lex and-”
“Recon?” Chloe cut in suspiciously.
“Nothing bad. I’ve just been keeping an eye on him.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Keeping an eye on him?”
Lois sighed, suddenly feeling put upon. “Why do you keep repeating everything I’m saying?”
“Do you mean stalking Lois?” Chloe asked staying on topic.
Lois snorted. “If that’s what you want to call it.”
“Lois!” She hissed. “That’s because that’s what it is. You can’t follow him around like that. I’m surprised you didn’t even get caught.”
“Hey,” Lois said defensively. “My father was the king of stealth, I think I deserve a little bit more credit than that.”
“Oh Man,” Chloe groaned. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “This is all wrong.”
“Look, You’re the weirdo in love with Lex so I saved you from the stalking that you would’ve eventually been doing. Besides, how else was I going to find out what he does in his spare time? which isn’t a lot by the way.”
Chloe’s interest became peaked. “What do you mean exactly?”
“Well, he’s pretty boring. Doesn’t really go out much except to work or Metropolis. He has been spending a lot of time with Lana recently. I mean, a lot of time.”
Chloe glared hard at her. “I really didn’t need to hear that.”
Lois just shrugged apologetically. “Its what I’ve seen Chloe.”
Chloe turned away from her. She barely began her pursuit, and she was already feeling discouraged. She didn’t want to hear about Lana being around Lex in any way, shape, or form. That girl was slowly moving into Lex territory. She couldn’t let that happen. She had to do something before it was too late.
“You have to get him to notice you Chloe.”
Chloe turned to look back at Lois, a determined look on her face. “I think I have an idea on how.”

Chapter 3
“You want to do an editorial on Lex Luthor?”
Chloe nodded nervously as she followed Harrower into his office. “Yes, Mr. Harrower.”
James harrower was the new managing editor of the Daily Planet. He was one of the planet’s all-time greatest reporters. Chloe had been blacklisted all over Metropolis, including the Daily Planet, but after reading her old columns, Harrower had given her a chance and hired her as an intern. For that, Chloe was grateful.
“On what exactly?”
“Well, you remember Syntechnics?”
He nodded, sitting down at his desk. Indicating Chloe sit as well. “The lab that created cybernetic limbs? We threw that story out weeks ago.”
“Yes I know, but I’ve found out there was more to the story than what was actually researched. Not only was Syntechnics creating cybernetic limbs, but they were also creating cybernetic organs. Their first creation was the pancreas, and they were making medical breakthroughs for those who are in the early and middle stages of Pancreatic cancer. Also-”
“I get it,” Harrower cut in. “But, what does this have to do with Luthor?”
“LuthorCorp owns ninety percent of Syntechnic labs. It has generated millions of dollars to their cancer research.”
Harrower nodded. “And why do you want to do this article?”
Chloe paused, considering whether she should tell him she was in love with Lex, and how she knew this would grab his attention. She knew she that wasn’t quite the logic Harrower was going for.
“People have a right to know Lex Luthor, and LuthorCorp isn’t as shady as most people think.” God she knew that sounded lame, but she continued albeit hesitantly. “Plus, if people see an article about Lex Luthor, good or bad, they’ll want to read it.”
Harrower nodded again while rubbing at his beard thoughtfully. “Good publicity equals more paper buying. I like it.”
Chloe smiled.
“Look Sullivan, You’re just an intern, and as far as your article writing duties here go is typing up the movie time tables and reviews.”
“But?” She asked hopefully.
“But, considering you had a column here before, and it was pretty good I’ll let you do the article.”
“Thank you.” She breathed.
“Your deadline is one week. I want it done so we could put it in with the business mogul review issue.”
Chloe nodded. “One week. Got it.”
“And it better be good,” He said standing up while gathering up files from his desk. “Because if it isn’t, I’ll throw that article out before you can even blink.”
“It’ll be good,” she said standing as well. She held her hand out. “Thank you again Mr. Harrower.”
Harrower just nodded, and handed her the bundle of files. “Shred these papers will yah Sullivan.” He ushered her out of the door, and closed it shut in her face.
Chloe’s smile faded as she looked down at the large bundle in her arms. She sighed. “I love being an intern.”
****
‘LUTHORCORP FUNDS HELP MEDICAL BREAKTHROUGH
IN CANCER RESEARCH.’
Chloe smiled proudly as she framed her finished article. She had worked extra hard all last week, and she wasn’t surprised when Harrower had praised her on how good it was. She really hoped to all hell that it got the results she wanted.
“You wrote an article on LuthorCorp?”
Chloe’s smile faded slightly as she placed the newspaper back down onto her desk. She turned slightly, unsurprised to see Lana leaning over her shoulder. “Yeah.”
Lana nodded, and reached for the newspaper. “Wow,” She said as she scanned the article. “I thought Clark was mistaken when he told me.”
Chloe frowned. “Why?”
“Well, because of the past you and Lex have had, and well I didn’t think you would write an article in favor of Syntechnics when you know what really went on.”
That statement sounded like a whole lot of judgment to Chloe. “Aren’t you Lex’s friend?”
Lana looked startled by her question. “Yes. But-”
“So what’s the difference between you knowing what happened and still being his friend? and me knowing what happened and writing this article?”
“Lex knows how I feel about his involvement Chloe.”
Well of course. “And I suppose you told him so.”
Lana nodded. “Yes.”
Yes, of course. It was all so simple. Lana really didn’t get it. “Well then,” she said with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “He’ll know how I feel when he reads this article.”
****
Chloe dreaded going to visit Clark. She already knew what would be the first words to come out of his mouth.
“Chloe, why would you write this article about Luthorcorp?”
His voice held that accusing self righteous tone he used so much. The one Chloe just hated.
She sighed as she flopped down on Clark‘s couch. “What is this judge Chloe week?” Apparently her joke wasn’t funny enough for Clark to laugh at.
“I’m serious Chloe.”
“Clark-”
“How could you be in favor of Syntechnics knowing what happened with Victor? How could you be in favor of Lex knowing what he did?”
Chloe sat up with a frown. “That article said nothing about being in favor of Lex.”
Clark raised an eyebrow at her.
“Okay,” she relented. “Maybe just a little.”
“I can’t believe you would do this Chloe.”
She glared at him. “Do what Clark? My job? State the facts? Because that’s what the hell I was doing.”
Clark shook his head. “Even after everything he’s done to you? To me?”
“Clark, this has nothing to do with that, and it certainly has nothing to do with you.”
“Chloe, listen to me-”
“No, Clark, you listen. Do you even know how many lives will be saved because of Syntechnics?”
“Chloe-”
“Millions Clark. I know you and Lex aren’t friends anymore, and I know he‘s done a lot of shady things. But, I was simply doing my job. Stating my opinion. So please respect that, and don’t try and judge me.” She stood up not wanting to have this conversation anymore.
“I’ll see you around Clark.”
“Chloe?” He sounded worried. Confused.
She didn’t want to look at him. Didn’t really want to be around him at the moment. “Later Clark.”

“What a self righteous ass.” Chloe muttered as she parked her car in front of the Talon.
Chloe had never felt this much anger toward Clark. The nerve of him to judge her. To question her logic. He didn’t even congratulate her on such a fine article. He had ended up giving her grief instead.
He had just proven her theory that he and Lana were perfect for each other.
****
“Good morning cousin. You look particularly pissed today.”
“I am,” Chloe huffed flopping down in a seat. “Clark, pissed me off so much earlier.”
“Ah,” Lois said with a nod. “About the article?”
Chloe snorted. “What else? You’d think I did something wrong to him.”
“That’s our Clark. You want your regular?”
Chloe could already taste the caffeine on her tongue. “Please.”
“So,” Lois started as she went to work. “You hear from your stud muffin yet?”
Chloe paused before laughing. “I can’t believe you just used the words stud muffin, and no I haven’t.”
Lois smiled in amusement. “So, he is your stud muffin then.”
“Lois-”
“Anyway,” she cut in. “I’ve seen him around town-”
“You haven’t been doing that stalking thing again have you?”
Lois glared at her as she passed Chloe her latte. “No, I haven’t, and just for that I won’t tell you that he’s coming this way right now.”
Chloe froze startled. “What?”
“See you later.” Lois said with a smirk before going off to take orders from customers.
“Chloe?”
Chloe paused before slowly turning to face Lex. He stood there, hands in his pockets. Smooth, bald head. Impeccably dressed. Sophisticated and composed. His presence breathed arrogance.
“What’s up Lex?” Good. Her voice wasn’t trembling. She sounded normal even.
“That was a very intriguing article you wrote.”
She stared at him dumbly. “Was it?”
He fixed her with a critical stare before answering. “Yes. It was. It was also very surprising.”
Chloe slowly raised an eyebrow at him. “Really? Why is that exactly?”
“Because the last time I checked we weren’t exactly on the same page.”
“And the last time I checked I wasn’t as self-righteous as you’re insinuating me to be.”
Something in Lex’s eyes flashed. “I’ll get straight to the point. What do you want from me Chloe?”
“What makes you think I want something from you?”
She watched as his expression turned from bored to impatient.
“Because, whenever someone says or writes something admirable about me or Luthorcorp, they usually want something in return.”
“Well,” She laughed. “I wouldn’t exactly call it admirable.”
Even though he didn’t show it, Chloe knew the smile on her face was irritating him. “Lex,” She started in a prosing tone. “If I wanted something from you, I would’ve told you before I printed that article.”
She watched him mull her words over in his mind before standing up. “If you’ll excuse me. I have class, and I don’t want to be late.”
She moved around him before pausing, and turning to face him again. He didn’t turn around, but his posture was tense. “There is one thing you could do for me,” She said to his back. “You could buy me lunch.”
With those words, she turned and left the Talon, catching Lois’s smile as she made her way through the door.
Lois watched Lex, who still stood in the same spot. This time staring in the direction Chloe had gone. Whatever she had said to Lex had obviously left him a bit frazzled.
Lois nodded to herself. “Good Girl.”

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-12-06 Parts 2 and 3 * (NC-17)
See? Now Chloe knows how to get a guy's attention, none of that silly eyelash fluttering for her :) Actually it was a really good idea on her part, now I can't wait to see what Lex will have to say about lunch. Great update!

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-12-06 Parts 2 and 3 * (NC-17)
These were two excellent updates:D
And yet again you've captured why Lexana will never work: Lana is too simple for Lex, and too self-righteous. Why he would want to involve himself with someone who can only see black and white, I will never understand.
I did like how Chloe didn't take any crap from Clark, either. I wish she'd do that on the show.
As for Lex, Chloe's got him right where she needs him to be--he's confused but also intrigued. Good for her:D
And your Lois is absolutely awesome--excellent work!

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-13-06 Part 2 of chapter 3 * (NC-17)
Here's part 2 of Chapter 3
***
Chapter 3 (Part 2)
Chloe was having an exhausting week.
As a reward for such an outstanding article, Harrower had promoted her from intern to part-time reporter. She had been ecstatic with the fact that she’d have more responsibilities. She had been even more excited with the prospect of being paid double than what they paid her as an intern. But, she knew with more responsibility meant more work. She was having trouble balancing being a full-time college student and her job all at once. Just this past week she’d been investigating two stories, she’s had three papers to type for three of her classes-Top that off with midterm week, and having to study for all five of her classes, she certainly had the busiest week of her life.
Now it was Friday afternoon, and she had just finished her last class for the week-She also didn’t have to go into work today.
‘I cannot wait to rest.’ She thought, as she made her way toward her dorm room. She was going to have a snack, crawl under the covers, and- she came to a halt in the hallway, standing in shock at the sight in front of her.
It had been three weeks since she had last seen him. She had been so busy she had to put a pause on being able to continue with her plan to pursuit Lex. She barely had enough time to even think about him. That didn’t stop her though. She thought about him everyday since he had confronted her at the Talon. To say she was shocked he was standing in front of her dorm room door, looking good as always- hand poised in mid-air ready to knock, was an understatement.
He looked sleek and sophisticated, and completely out of place in Stevenson Hall of Metropolis University.
“Lex?”
He turned, looking a bit startled. She had never saw that look on his face before.
“Chloe-”
“Lana isn’t here.” She knew he couldn’t be here for her.
He must of found his cool composed defenses again because he shrugged. “I’m actually not here to see Lana.”
“Oh,” She said surprised. “Then what-” She trailed off as two girls passed them by, staring at Lex the whole way. “What are you doing here?”
He placed his hands in his pockets looking completely composed. “I’ve taken you up on your favor.”
****
Chloe hadn’t expected this. She certainly hadn’t expected him to take her up on her suggestion to take her to lunch, but he had, and she was currently stunned into silence.
Café Metropol was one of the most exclusive and expensive eateries located in arts district of Metropolis. It composed of brick walls, wood floors, and vaulted ceilings which had beautiful artwork hanging from them. They had been seated outside on the deck. Chloe had never seen a place quite as beautiful as this was.
“You look like the proverbial cat got your tongue.”
She looked up from her chicken salad ,surprised to see Lex observing her from across the table. “This place is nice, but I would’ve settled for a hotdog.”
Lex smirked at her obvious quip. “I’m not quite the hot dog type. I hope you understand.”
She shrugged . “I figured as much.”
There had never been this much silence between them in the past. They always had something to say to each other. Chloe really missed that. She looked up at him, and caught a confused look in his eyes before his face fell back into its mask of indifference.
“I take it Clark didn’t think too highly of your article.” He stated smoothly.
Chloe laughed. “Of course he didn’t. He’s kid black and white. I’d be surprise if he even knows what the color gray is.”
Lex’s expression showed surprise. “A bit harsh for someone who’s your friend don’t you think?”
“Oh please,” she said with a wry expression. “Like you haven’t thought or said it yourself.”
Lex shrugged. “Clark and I aren’t friends anymore.”
“Yes, but you were once friends. So, you had thought it once or twice.”
“Once,” Lex agreed. “Or twice.”
“See?” She said with a small smile as she took a sip of her wine.
“Why did you write that article Chloe?”
The abrupt change of subject didn’t rattle her at all. “Because it was the truth. It was how I felt. I think you and Syntechnics are doing great things for cancer research.”
He sat forward in his chair, an unreadable expression on his face. “Even knowing what went on there with Victor Stone?”
“Yes.” she replied without hesitation. “Even knowing that. Sometimes Lex, you have to look at the big picture.”
If Lex was surprised he didn’t show it. “I’ve been getting quite a few phone calls because of your article,” He said suavely. “They were rather praising.”
Chloe smiled. “Its nice when people are nice to you isn’t it? You’re welcome Lex.”
He raised an eyebrow. “I’m suppose to be thanking you for something?”
She rolled her eyes at him. “For writing the article of course.”
He looked slightly amused. “People were nice to me before that article.”
“Uh huh,” She said, clearly not believing him. “I know Luthorcorp stock is up twelve points now.”
He didn’t miss a beat. “And I’m assuming you think your article had something to do with that also.”
“I also know it was down eight points before my article came out.”
He looked bored. “Chloe-”
“I also know you took me out to lunch to thank me for writing that article. Even though you don’t want me to know that. You probably just wanted me to think that you had some sort of ulterior motive for doing such a nice deed, but I don’t think that at all. So, thanks.”
Damn she missed this. This, Verbal Judo as Lex had once called it. Once again, she had caught Lex off guard. Silenced him.
Lex blinked then: “You’re welcome.”
*****
“You don’t stick to the speed limit anywhere don’t you?” Chloe asked as Lex drove her back to her dorm.
He gave her a sideways glance. “You know you could’ve taken a taxi back-Or the bus. Public transportation is very good here in Metropolis- That was sarcasm by the way.”
She glared at him. “You’re the one who-ouch!” She hit her head as he abruptly pulled up in front of her dorm building. She rubbed her head, looking up at his smirking face. “You’re going to pay for that.”
“I highly doubt that.” He said glancing out the window.
Silence descended between them once again.
“Awkward silence number one,” She said, and he smiled. “I’ll see you around Lex.”
“Chloe?”
She paused, her hand on the door handle. “Yes?”
He turned to look at her. “Tell me a secret?”
She looked at him in surprise. ‘Tell me a secret’ was something she had made up during the summer of their friendship. Whenever an awkward silence would settle upon them, one or the other would ask that. It didn’t necessarily have to be a secret, just something the person thought the questioner should know. It was stupid, but it was theirs. She was surprised he still remembered.
“We were once friends too Lex,” She started quietly. “I don’t think you’re as bad as Clark says you are.”
She didn’t wait for a reply. Just turned away from him, and opened the car door. “I’ll see you around.”
*****
“So, he took you out to lunch.”
Chloe sighed as she lay back against her bed, phone against her ear. “Yes Lois.”
“Oh our plan is working already. You have him in the palm of your hand.”
Chloe paused. She had honestly forgotten all about that plan. “It wasn’t like that Lois.”
“Mmhmm, what top were you wearing?”
Chloe frowned in confusion. “A beige deep V lace tunic. Why?”
“The one I bought you for Christmas? The one that showed off your boobs perfectly?”
“Yes.” Chloe answered, already knowing where Lois was going with this.
Lois made a sound in the back of her throat. “And how many times did he glance at your boobs exactly?”
“Lois!”
“How many Chloe?”
“Five.” Chloe felt herself blushing slightly. “He looked at them five times.”
Lois laughed. “I knew it!”
“I’m hanging up now.”
“It doesn’t matter how sophisticated and composed he is. He’s still a man, and he likes boobs.”
“Goodbye Lois.” Chloe hung up the phone at the sound of Lois’s loud snickering.

Oh man, but I do love this story!
I liked the "Tell me a secret" part--Lex and Chloe were friends during that summer she was in hiding, and I could see them doing this to pass through any awkward silences.
ANd Lois is absolutely right: Lex may be a suave, billionaire, but he is also a man who can appreciate the Chloevage--WOO HOO:grin3:

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-13-06 Part 2 of chapter 3 * (NC-17)
This is great...Lex really needs somebody on his side. I'm glad Chloe kinda forgot her "Get Lex" plan and was sincere with him...y'know...the article could've been manipulative on her part, but not if she really feels that way. Or maybe I'm just justifying it 'cause I'm for anything that will bring Lex closer to Chloe...and away from Lana!
I agree with those who like Lois better in this fic than on the show - (not that I watch the show much anymore) - and I'm glad to say I hate Lana just as much as ever! When fanfic writers make Lana nicer....it freaks me out. ;)
Thanks for making your fic funny...I've been missing funny Chlex... the Humor forum has been sadly neglected. So if I have to take some NC-17 with my Humor, I guess I can handle it. :P

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
Thanks again for all the feedback! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. School has been keeping me busy! Here’s the next chapter. Enjoy!
Chapter 4
“Lets bring it in with a full lotus. Close your eyes, and breathe in deeply, before letting it out slowly.”
“I need to get laid.”
Chloe opened one eye, and glanced over at Lois, surprised at the exclamation. “What?”
“You know,” Lois said opening one of her eyes also. “Laid? As in Sex. I want to fuck.”
“Now move into a seated twist.”
Chloe switched positions. “That’s nice to know.”
Lois did the same. “I’m serious. Taking up yoga will eventually make us extremely flexible. What’s the point of knowing how to put your legs behind your head if you can’t show it off in bed?”
“Move into a seated angle.”
“I’m marveling at the fact that I get your point.”
Lois glared at her. “Like you haven’t thought about it once.”
“I have,” Chloe admitted as she stretched her arms out above her head. “Once or twice. But, this was your idea to do this.”
“Yeah. In case you’ve forgotten, I did this for you. You know, just in case a certain bald billionaire comes to his senses.”
Chloe just smiled. “That’ll be the day.”
“By the way. You haven’t even done what I suggested to you have you?”
“I’ve been busy.”
Lois raised an eyebrow at her. “Busy or scared?”
Chloe glared at her. “Busy. I’ve been entirely too busy to deal with this right now.”
Lois muttered something under her breath.
“Now move into a dog tilt, and slowly breathe in again.”
“What was that?”
“I never pinned you for being a coward Chloe Sullivan.”
“I am no coward.”
“You are too,” Lois taunted stretching her arms above her head. “Here you have Lex Luthor right where you need him, and what do you do? Nothing. Nada. Zip-”
“I get it,” Chloe cut in annoyed. “What’s your point?”
“My point is, you’re a scaredy cat. Too scared to do something as simple as becoming Lex’s friend, and you can’t even do that.”
Chloe knew she couldn’t deny it. She had thought long and hard about what Lois told her what she had to do next. She was afraid. She didn’t know if she could risk her feelings with Lex again. She knew she couldn’t bear to handle him hurting her again.
“Look,“ Lois started. “I know you’re a little apprehensive about all this, but sometimes, and I’m no expert on this, but sometimes you have to take risks when you’re in love. I mean gigantic risks. That is, if you want to get what you want.”
Once again, Lois was right. Chloe did want tog et what she wanted. What she deserved. She dropped her arms, and turned to look at Lois. “How do I go about doing this again?” She asked, and Lois smiled.
“Use that Sullivan charm of yours.”
Chloe frowned. “Meaning?”
“Meaning you have to do something he wouldn’t expect. I don’t know how you even talk to him. I tried verbally sparring with him, and I’m still picking my face off of the floor.”
“Oh yeah.” Chloe laughed as she remembered the ‘Muffin peddling college dropout’ label Lex had so cuttingly remarked.
She stopped laughing the longer Lois glared at her. “You have to admit. It was funny.”
“Whatever,” Lois said while reaching over to switch the television off. “Let us quit this yoga crap and grab a latte downstairs.”
“Okay. Hey Lois, didn’t you sleep with that water boy who saved your life that day at the lake?”
“I thought we agreed to never to discuss that.”
Chloe laughed some more.
****
Chloe paused in her typing as she heard the familiar whoosh of air from behind her.
“What do you want Clark?”
“There’s no sneaking up on you anymore is there?”
“Not when there’s a sudden gust of wind in a room without windows. How’d you know I was here?”
“Lana told me.”
“Of course.” She turned in her chair, raising an eyebrow at the bouquet of wildflowers in his hand. “What are those?”
Clark seemed to collect himself before holding out the flowers to her. “I’ve been calling you for a week and half, and since you didn’t want to speak to me I figured I’d come to you. I don’t want you to hate me anymore.”
“I’m sorry,” He continued, taking a deep breath. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I shouldn’t have asked you to put your job over me. It was wrong and it was selfish of me. I’ll try to never do it again. Please. Forgive me?”
Chloe silently stared at him. Clark really was pathetically cute sometimes, and if she wasn’t so butt crazy in love with Lex, she’d probably still be in love with him. This certainly was a first for him. The old Clark wouldn’t have even bothered to apologize. Wouldn’t even bother to see her side of things. She realized her little boy was all grown up.
She stood, taking the flowers from him. “I really want to smash these flowers over your head, but I’ll take them anyway. Plus, I never hated you,” she said softly. “I was just tired of you always judging me for doing my job.”
He nodded, and hugged her. “I know. I’m stupid like that. You’re the only friend I’ve got Chloe.”
It was the truth, and Chloe just realized that now. She tightened her arms around him, suddenly feeling very sorry for that. “I know Clark. I know.”
*****
“Ms. Sullivan, I told you Mr. Luthor is very busy.”
Lex looked up from his paperwork, and paused surprised to see Chloe barging into his study.
“Hi.” She waved over at him with a small smile.
“Mr. Luthor, I’m sorry, but she wouldn’t listen to me.”
“Its all right Helga.”
Helga nodded, and flashed Chloe a glare before turning and leaving.
“Bye Helga!” Chloe called before turning and walking further into the study.
“Hi, Lex.” She greeted, walking in front of his desk.
He sat back in his chair. “Chloe,” He started coolly. “This is a surprising visit. What brings you to this side of Smallville?”
“Well, I was just in the neighborhood, and I figured I’d come by and keep you company.” she held up a bag of food with a smile. “I bought Chinese.”
Chloe reveled in the look of surprise on Lex’s face, but it was gone just as fast as it appeared.
“Keep me company?”
She nodded. “Uh huh.”
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a little busy. So if you could just-”
“Yes,” Chloe cut in. “Helga told me, and by the way, I don’t think she likes me very much.”
“She just takes her job seriously.”
“Which is why you hired her.”
They both shared a small smile before she turned away with the bag of food in her hand.
“Chloe, what are you doing?” He inquired watching as she moved toward the leather chair.
“Well, I’m about to eat Chinese food.” She answered removing her jacket. “You’re welcome to have some. It is why I came by.” She flashed his confused face a smile, and sat down reaching for the bag again.
“Chloe,” He started slowly, as if here were talking to a child. “I told you I was-”
“Busy, Yes. On a Sunday afternoon. Which is pretty lame by the way.” She started pulling cartons out of the bag, chancing a glance at him and smiling inwardly at the annoyed look on his face. She didn’t care what reaction she was getting from him as long as it wasn’t his cool unmoved attitude he seemed so inclined to use.
He sighed. “Chloe-”
“Sorry,” She said cutting him off again. She reached for the chicken and broccoli along with the chopsticks. “That was rude. Look, don’t mind me. Pretend I’m the furniture. I’ll just sit here and eat quietly while you work.”
She chanced another glance at him unsurprised to see he was pinching the bridge of his nose. She grinned, and began to happily munch on her food.
Chloe’s stomach was doing some serious flip flopping, but still continued to eat, glancing at him through lowered lids. He was looking good as always. Wearing a cream colored V neck cashmere sweater that hugged his arms showing off his very nice muscles. He seemed to be taking on an air of indifference now. Ignoring her while he typed on his laptop.
fifteen minutes pass.
She wanted to groan in annoyance. She knew the question as to why she was here was eating a him. She also knew he wouldn’t ask. He’ll just sit there ignoring her until she became so uncomfortable or bored that she would just give up and leave.
He obviously must’ve forgotten who he was dealing with.
She hummed to herself as she switched cartons, placing the chicken and broccoli down for the beef lo mein. She glanced at Lex again frowning when she noticed he was now busy writing something in one of his file folders. She hummed even louder. Her frown turned to a smile when she noticed the slight pause in his writing.
Ten more minutes pass.
“You know the rumors about you are greatly exaggerated. You’re extremely boring.”
This time Lex paused completely, and slowly looked up at her. “Excuse me?”
Chloe let out a little huff. “You Lex Luthor, are boring. I mean here I am, visiting you, and you don’t even try to entertain me. You just ignore me.”
“I don’t remember inviting you over,” He said, sounding offended. “And I’m certainly not your entertainment.”
Chloe repressed her giggling. “You’re right on both, but could it kill you to be a little bit more nicer to me?”
Lex pressed his lips together tightly, and briefly closed his eyes. “Why are you here Chloe?”
She hid her triumphant smile. “Well, Lex, isn’t it obvious?”
Lex only stared at her, and she sighed.
“I told you before we were friends once. So I figured why not try and be friends again? I know you don’t have any friends,” She smirked. “Well, besides Lana, and I know a lot of terrible things happened between us, but water under the bridge right?”
Lex blinked. And blinked again.
Chloe was seriously thinking how much of a mistake she was making, but she continued on. “So, friends?”
Silence filled the room. Awful awkward silence that made Chloe’s stomach tie in knots. Lex sighed loudly before sitting forward.
“Is that Lo mein?”
Chloe started surprised. “Huh? Yes.”
He stood up, and walked from behind his desk. “Chicken or Beef?”
Chloe smiled. “Beef of course.”
He reached for the carton, and she handed him his own set of chopsticks, smiling when he sat down beside her.
Chloe watched him as he sat there. Eating slowly. Smelling really good. Looking really good. She realized how much she wanted this. Missed his friendship. She knew Lex didn’t have any friends. She couldn’t imagine how lonely It must be to live in a castle with so many empty rooms, and not have someone around to keep you company. She knew it probably sounded stupid because he was Lex Luthor, but then again he was only human, and humans get lonely. She suspected his years of loneliness, and probably constant hurt must’ve filled him with cynicism. She knew somewhere under that brittle persona of his had to be a person filled with warmth and vulnerability.
“What is it?”
She blinked, realizing Lex was watching her watch him. She cursed her stupid ability to mind babble. Sometimes she’d just stare into space, and let her mind wander on a certain subject, and she knew she probably was watching Lex as if he were a bug under a microscope. He looked wary. Uncomfortable.
She really wanted to hug him right now.
She smiled. “Nothing.”
If Lex thought it was more than nothing, he didn’t say so.
She looked around wanting to fill the uncomfortable silence. “Wasn’t there a television in here somewhere?”
Lex paused before reaching under the table, and pressing a button. A panel opened, and a forty inch flat screen came sliding up from the table.
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Very MTV cribs of you.”
“Thank you.” He switched the television on.
Chloe’s eyes widened in surprise when she noticed the television was tuned into the Cartoon network. She watched amused as Lex quickly but smoothly switched channels.
“You didn’t see that.” He said after a few moments, and she nodded holding in her laughter for her sake.
“Of course I didn’t.”
He settled on an old black and white Twilight Zone episode. She brought her legs up under her as she lay sideways on the chair to get comfortable.
“I haven’t seen this one since I was little.”
Chloe smiled. “I wasn’t allowed to watch this show when I was little. Every time it was bedtime I always ended up crawling into my father’s bed because of nightmares. I still snuck and watched it because Pete and Clark were always talking about it the next day in school.”
She looked over at Lex to see him watching her with a small smile that made her insides flutter. She cleared her throat, and turned back to the television to where they both watched in companionable silence.
Suddenly Chloe felt her eyes grow heavy, and she had forgotten how much eating Chinese food made her sleepy.
Chloe shifted slightly, pulling the small blanket that covered her body up to her neck. Her eyes snapped open in a panic when she realized she wasn’t in her bed. She slowly sat up, and looked around her surroundings remembering she was in Lex’s study. The table had been cleared of all remnants of Chinese food, but the television was still out, but it was on mute.
“Have a good nap?”
She looked up to see Lex back at his desk writing in his file folders. He looked up at her with a small smirk.
She knew she should feel embarrassed about falling asleep, but she didn’t. She was too busy feeling touched that he put a blanket over her. “What time is it?”
“A little after seven.”
God he let her sleep for two hours?
“Why’d you let me sleep so long?”
He just shrugged. “You looked tired.”
She raised an eyebrow. She suspected he just did it so he could get back to work. “How long have you been working?”
He shrugged slightly. “Not long.”
She slowly stood, stretching her arms above her head. “I better get back to the dorm,” she muttered. “I think I have a paper to type or something.”
“Yes,” He said with a slight nod. “Don’t want to miss out on that.”
“Thank you for your hospitality.” She said while putting on her coat.
He gave her another slight nod. “My pleasure.”
She smiled at him before walking toward the door.
“I hope I don’t read any exclusives tomorrow about my watching the Cartoon Network.”
Chloe paused before turning to Lex with a smile. “No, no there won’t be any exclusives.”
She turned to go, but paused again. “Hey Lex?”
“Yes Chloe?”
“I’ll see you next Sunday.”
He was silent for a long moment then: “Okay.”

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
I loved it...all of it...your Lois is supreme and even makes me feel a little sad i don't have any female cousins and Lex watching cartoons??? To die for! I also liked it a lot that you're taking your time and allowing them to build up to a relationship instead of just having them jump at it...friends first is definetly a nice policy...as long as it doesn't take too long hehehhe
so please update soon???
Lots of love

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
Oh man, but I adore this fic!
I love that Chloe has Lex so thrown off simply by being his friend, and treating him kindly. He is so used to the selfish "friendship" of Clark and Lana that he doesn't kow what a real friend is.
And good for Lois for encouraging Chloe in her pursuit of Lex--she really is a great big sister.
Wonderful work:D

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
What a delightful update. I absolutely adore Lois in this story. That woman is funny, and she's got some great advice. Glad to see she's pushing Chloe in the right direction. And yay for Chloe taking the initiative and showing up unexpectedly at Lex's with Chinese food.

Ah, a fan of the cartoon network. A man after my own heart. Can't wait till the new chapter comes out.

Did the nasty with fishboy, did she? Thats kinda......the guy looked like a frat truck. And not in a good way.

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
Nice, I'm loving this story. I'm glad that Chloe is finally taking matters into her own hands and doing something about, she's not throwing herself at him which would most likely freak Lex out, so baby steps is all good and it worked! They hung out and now they have a weekly date :) Great update!

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
Great chapter. I love the plotting and planning between Chloe and Lois, but even more I love how Lex seems cautiously trustful of Chloe...if that makes any sense. More soon, please!

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-22-06 Chapter 4 * (NC-17)
I'm liking Lex and Chloe, liking Lois, not liking Clark and Lana, so what else is new? Lois is just too funny with her whole take charge attitude. And I like that Chloe is doing what she must to get her man. And I get the feeling that Lex is liking it too. Ah Cartoon Network, I love those little quirks that fanfic writers give to our favorite characters. It makes them so human. Personally, I want to know what cartoons Lex watches. I know "Pinky and The Brain" doesn't come on the cartoon network (or I don't think it does) but I can see Lex watching that.

Thanks again for all the feedback! I’ll try and start responding to them. There’s just so many! anyway Here’s the next part
Chapter 5
“Draw Four. And the color is green by the way.”
Chloe glared at Lex as she picked up four cards from the deck. She glared even harder at him as she noticed she had picked up four yellow cards.
Lex grinned at her as he placed his second to last card down. “Uno.”
Chloe sighed in annoyance as she picked another card out from the deck, and placed it down on top of the pile. “I’m seriously regretting teaching you how to play this game.”
“You’re just upset because you‘ve lost. Again. For the third time in a row,” Lex said, placing his last card down with a triumphant smile. “I win.”
Chloe glared as she threw her cards down onto the table. “You just won because you so diligently had to call out every time I forgot to say Uno.”
Lex just shrugged, that egotistical smirk still on his face. “Those are the rules.”
“Those are the rules,” Chloe mimicked. “You have to be perfect in everything you do don’t you?”
Lex thought for a moment before nodding. “Pretty much. Besides this game is all quite simple. it’s a strategy really. Kind of like a company takeover.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Of all the egotistical- company takeover?”
Lex nodded. “Yes. You see in the beginning of every game I let you throw out all of your high cards until you have nothing left. Then I go in for the kill. It isn’t exactly how you play the game Chloe, its what you do at the end.”
Chloe laughed suddenly while shaking her head. “Only you would come up with a philosophy for something as simple Uno.”
Lex leaned forward until their foreheads were almost touching. “Out of intense complexities, intense simplicities emerge.”
Chloe swallowed nervously. Did he even know what he was doing to her by invading her personal space that way? The scent of his cologne permeated her senses and her mind. She blinked, and her eyes quickly glanced down at his smiling mouth. All she had to do was move her head. Just an inch, and their lips would be touching with a kiss that she’s been dreaming about.
The moment was over as fast as it had happened. She let out the breath she’d been holding as Lex turned away from her.
“Of course you would quote Winston Churchill.” Good, her voice sounded normal.
Lex glanced at her briefly as he walked toward his desk to grab two bottles of water. “The moment called for it.”
Chloe smiled, taking the bottle of out his hands as he sat next to her. “Doesn’t every moment?”
She put her sock clad feet in his lap, and turned to watch the television with a smile when he didn’t stiffen up or look uncomfortable like he did at the beginning of their friendship. She could tell he was getting use to her friendly touches; getting use to her being close. He always looked as if he were waiting for the other shoe to drop. Like he was expecting her to turn against him at any minute. She had to drill it into him time and time again that he didn’t have to be so on edge around her, that she wasn’t going to bite.
“Change the channel. This is boring.”
Lex easily held the remote out of her reach. “It’s the stock report.”
Chloe huffed. “Its Sunday Lex. Can’t you just forget about work for once?”
“I do. I’m with you aren’t I?” Lex seemed to pause, surprised at the words that slipped out of his mouth.
Chloe’s pout turned to a full out grin as she looked over at Lex with surprise. There was no expression on his face at all, just a bland look he showed the rest of the world. “That was uncharacteristically mushy of you.”
He glanced at her. “Yes. Well, lets keep that between you and I shall we?”
“Fine.” Chloe said still smiling. “But, I get bragging rights about it whenever you get too moody.”
“As long as you shut up, and let me watch the stock report in peace.”
“Agreed.”
Chloe settled back against the couch, glancing at Lex when his cell phone began to ring. He looked briefly annoyed that someone was calling him, but the look on his face changed as he seemed to realize who it was calling him.
“Lana, Hi.”
Chloe froze both mentally and physically as that name passed through Lex’s lips. She wasn’t normally a jealous person, but she surged with it at that moment. The way he said her name, all slow and silky. It bothered her tremendously.
“Yes, I remember that.”
She removed her feet from his lap, trying with all her might not to listen in on his conversation.
She was failing miserably.
Didn’t he know it was rude to talk on the phone when you had company? Well, she knew he was a little socially retarded, but everyone knew that. She opened her mouth to tell him so, but closed it once she heard the next words that came out of his mouth.
“Actually, right now is a bad time. No, that’s all right. Goodbye.”
Lex closed his phone, and glanced at Chloe. “You okay?”
The lie came easily to her as she nodded. “Of course.”
****
“Lane’s house of sex. I’m here to please you.”
“Lois?”
“Oh, hey cousin. What’s up?”
“We’re going to talk about your phone etiquette.”
“Oh don’t mind that. I was just avoiding someone.”
“Hmm, would that certain someone be Dan the politician?”
“Ugh! I don’t want to talk about it. That is the last time I let Martha Kent hook me up with anyone.”
Chloe laughed. “I thought you liked him.”
“I did. He’s a nice, safe, conventional guy. Then he started to speak, and I was bored to tears.”
“Mmhmm,” Chloe said. “You saw him naked didn’t you?”
Lois sighed. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
Chloe held in her snickering. “Oh, Lois-”
“You can hear the frustration in my voice Chloe,” Lois cut in. “ I’m warning you to leave it alone.”
“Okay. Okay. Just one more question?”
“What?”
“Was it small?”
“Chloe!”
“I’m sorry.” Chloe giggled. She so rarely got the opportunity to rag on her cousin.
“Its not funny. My sex life has gone from pathetic to completely pathetic. I think I deserve a little bit more sympathy from you.”
“Okay, I’m sorry.”
“Now,” Lois said. “Lets make fun of your life. How is the bald billionaire? Did you guys have sex yet?”
“His name is Lex, and it isn’t like that. I’m just enjoying being his friend right now.”
“Hmm. And you’ve been friend with him how long?”
“Seven months and five days, but who’s counting?”
“You’ve been friends for seven months, and he hasn’t even made a move on you? Geez, he’s slower than I thought.”
Chloe sighed. “It isn’t-”
“Like that,” Lois finished for her. “I get it. I know you enjoy being friends with him, but I think you’d be even better friends if you two did it already.”
“Maybe,” She conceded. “But, I don’t think he’s ever had a girl as a friend. A real friend. Its nice to know that I could be that for him.”
“I’m going to cry.”
Chloe felt herself blushing. “Shut up.”
“So, what did Clark say when you told him about your not so new found friendship?”
“He looked shocked. Then he looked really sad. Then he said he didn’t like it, but he’s still my friend no matter what.”
“Wow,” Lois said. “He didn’t try and preach to you or anything?”
“No. Although he really looked like he wanted to. I think he kind of finally gets it.”
“That’s good. Hey, what about the enemy?”
Chloe rolled her eyes at Lois’s name for Lana. “She still doesn’t know, and I don’t want her to.”
“Keep an eye on her Chloe. She’s a sneaky one.”
“Bye Lois.”
“Okay. Fine. I’ve got to run anyway. I’m suppose to help Martha hire a new assistant.”
Chloe smiled. “Lets cross your fingers in the hopes that it’s a guy.”
“Talk to you later smart ass.”
*****
“Sullivan, get in here!”
Chloe glanced up from her textbook to see Mr. Harrower standing in the doorway of his office. She stood up with a sigh, wondering what she could’ve done wrong this time.
“Yes, Mr. Harrower?”
“I have an assignment for you.” Harrower passed her a folder.
Chloe took the folder, and opened it. “Platman industries,” She read. “What’s that?”
“It’s a meat packing industry down on seventh and main. I got a tip that the Metropolis police are moving in on them for running an illegal pharmaceutical drug ring. I want you to look in on it.”
Chloe stared down at the folder in front of her with a frown. “But, I don’t-” She trailed off at his look. “Okay.”
Harrower nodded, standing up. “Good. I want you to give me what you have in the next three weeks.”
Chloe’s smile didn’t reach her eyes as she stood up. “I’ll be right on that.”
“Hey, Sullivan?”
Chloe turned. “Yes, Mr. Harrower.”
“Isn‘t it about time for you to go home?”
“Yes, but I just had to get-”
“Nonsense,” he cut in. “You work too hard.”
Chloe frowned. Work too hard? Didn’t he just give her another assignment?
“But-”
“Go home, and don’t come in tomorrow. You look like shit.”
“Okay,” she said. “Thanks. I think.”
*******
“This is a surprise.”
Chloe hadn’t expected to see Lex leaning against a silver Lexus, hands in his pockets, in front of her campus building. He was impeccably dressed as usual. Wearing a black suit with a pale lavender tie. He looked cool and sophisticated. Completely unmoved.
“What brings you here?”
Lex stood up straight. “I’ve been in meetings all day today. I figured I’d come meet you on your way from work.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow as she studied him. He’d been in meetings all day? Most people came from work looking rumpled and dishelmed. But Lex wasn’t most people. She was beginning to suspect he groomed himself in between off hours to give off the guise that he always looked sharp without effort.
“Get in,” He said opening his door. “I want to show you something.”
****
“We’ve been driving for the past twenty minutes Lex. Where are we going?”
Lex glanced at her looking annoyed. “You look terrible.”
Chloe pouted. “Thanks for making my self- esteem go down ten points. I’m just tired. Plus, I think I’m coming down with something.”
Lex frowned at her. “You work too hard.”
“This coming from a guy who works on Sundays.”
Lex didn’t look amused at her usual quip. “I’m serious Chloe. Handling school and your job might be a bit too much.”
Now Chloe was annoyed. Who did he think he was? “Look Lex,” she started slowly. “I can take care of myself. My work load is perfectly healthy, and I don’t need anyone trying to tell me otherwise.”
Lex’s face suddenly went cold. His hands reflexively grasped the steering wheel. “I won’t mention it again.” He said after a long bout of silence.
Chloe stared at him. Really stared at him. Then it suddenly hit her that he wasn’t trying to tell her what to do. This was Lex worrying. This was Lex indirectly telling her that he was worried she was over doing it. Instead of appeasing him, she bit his head off.
She placed a hand on his leg, biting her lip when he looked at her startled. “Sorry,” she said quietly. “I have the whole day off tomorrow.”
She watched as he slowly eased the tenseness from his posture, and he became more relaxed. “Good.”
She smiled as the mood in the car went back to normal. “So,” she said brightly. “Where are we going?”
Lex shook his head. “You’re incorrigible.”
“But, you put up with me.”
“Unfortunately. We’re here.”
Chloe glanced up as he pulled into a construction site.
“What is this place?” She asked as she got out of the car.”
She glanced around noticing all the piles of dirt. “What is it you wanted me to see exactly?”
Lex walked to stand beside her. He waved his hand in front of them. “This. All of this.”
She raised an eyebrow. “All of this dirt?” She turned to look at him. “You’re not going to kill me are you?”
Lex frowned. “You’re a strange person.”
“Thank you. So, what is this place?”
Lex smiled. “This is the LuthoMed disease control institute.”
Chloe frowned. “LuthoMed?”
“Yes. A new division I’ve been working on for a few weeks. Disease research. Aids, cancer, anything.”
He turned away from her to look back out at all the dirt. “These facilities will be built by 2009.”
Chloe smiled. “So, let me guess. You want me to spin a story for you?”
He shrugged. “Well, eventually. But, I want you to be the first one to know about this Chloe. The first one to-see this.”
Chloe looked at him surprised and confused at the unfamiliar look on his face. “Lex?”
“I’m closing the weapons research division of Luthorcorp.”
Chloe knew that division alone was worth billions of dollars. “Why?”
He gave her a ghost of a smile. “Which answer would you like to hear?”
“The real one.”
His smile faded as he looked away from her. “I had to stop myself before I got out of hand.”
The answer was simple, but Chloe knew everything Lex said was never simple. She knew Lex had secrets. Told lies. Had done things. Questionable things. But, standing here looking at him, she could tell something had happened in order for him to make such a rash ethical business decision.
“I’m proud of you Lex.”
He looked startled, pleased, and uncomfortable all in one at her statement, and the small smile he graced her with made her insides flutter.
“Come on,” he said walking back to the car. “I’ll take you to get some lunch.”
“Good because I’m starved. Can I drive back?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because I said so.”
“But, that’s not an answer.”
“Get in the damn car Chloe.”
****
Chloe stared hard at Lana’s truck parked In the castle’s driveway. She had drove into Smallville in the hopes of seeing Lex on her night off. But, instead she was standing outside debating whether or not she should just knock and interrupt whatever they were doing.
She shook her head, turning to go. She couldn’t do that, that was just rude. She walked halfway down the driveway toward her car before pausing.
“Keep an eye on her Chloe. She’s a sneaky one.”
Chloe bit her lip as Lois’s dumb words played over and over in her head. Lana was a sneaky one, and Chloe wouldn’t stand for it. She had to see what the hell was going on there.
Before she knew what she was doing, her legs were taking her to the side of the castle. “Please don’t have floodlights,” She muttered glancing around the darkened area. “Or, watch dogs.” She glanced up to where she knew Lex’s study was, frowning when she noticed the light was on.
“Okay, what to do? What to do?” She glanced around, her eyes stopping on the large tree in front of her. “Okay, Chloe. Are you really going to climb this tree?” She glanced back up at Lex’s study.
“Yes.”
She quickly began to climb with precision, thankful that two of her childhood best friends were both boys. “I can’t believe I’m doing this. Lois was right,” She muttered lifting her left arm, and pulling her right leg up. “I have finally converted to stalking.”
Deciding she was high enough, she lifted her right leg, and swung it around to straddle the tree branch. She smiled triumphantly when she noticed she had a perfect view inside Lex’s study. She moved forward as she observed the scene in front of her. Lex was behind his desk, and Lana, sitting in the chair in front of him. They were talking.
“Innocently enough.” She said, and glanced up as a loud clap of thunder was heard. She really could laugh at the luck she wasn’t having. The last thing she needed was to be rained on. The second to last thing she needed was to be shocked by lightening while sitting in this tree. Maybe that should be the last thing.
Shaking her thoughts, she leaned in even closer, squinting her eyes when she realized Lana looked upset about something. She watched as Lex stood up, and kneeled in front of Lana, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Figures,” She snorted. “She would go to him. He throws her the best pity parties.”
She watched as Lana suddenly stood, throwing her arms up, looking confused and hurt. She watched as Lex stood up, and rested a hand on Lana’s cheek, causing Lana to look up at him. They stared at each other silently.
“No.” Chloe muttered, as she watched Lex lean forward and kiss Lana. She watched as Lana seemed to freeze, before resting her hands on Lex’s shoulders, and returning the kiss.
“Oh!” Chloe gasped leaning forward even more. “That Bitc- Ahhhh!” The tree branch cracked loudly, and Chloe went falling and falling so fast she hit the pile of dirt with a silent thud, knocking the wind out of her.
It took Chloe five whole minutes to realize that she wasn’t dead. It took her another five minutes to realize that she wasn’t paralyzed. She closed her eyes, thanking the pile of dirt and god of course. After thanking the pile of dirt and god, she remembered what she saw, and was hit with a sudden bout of deep sadness. Her night could not get any worse.
Just as that thought entered her mind, she felt it. One drop. Then two. Then three and four. The sky thundered with a frightening sound of lightening followed by the heavy downpour of rain. She could feel the dirt below her turn to mud, and she groaned out loud. The rain pelted against her face and body, soaking her. Freezing her. The sudden warmth on her face made her realize that she was crying.
She slowly tried to stand, but slipped, falling face first into the mud.
Her night definitely couldn’t get any worse.
******
“Oh my god. Chloe?” Lois stared at her wet mud caked cousin. “What happened?”
Chloe’s teeth chattered as she wrapped her arms around herself. “May I please use your shower?”

I really hate Lex right now. Him and Blana can pick a finger and spin and then go to hell.

This is so not good!! Hate that Lana, always have to get avery guy and that idiot Lex kissed her - I want to cry!!!:nono: :omg:
-
Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
You know what? Lex is growing more and more attached to Chloe, and I know that she is going to win out in the end.
Lana is just a prety little distraction--Chloe is a challenge to him:D
And I do like how Chloe goes right to Lois for help/solace--that's really cool!
-
Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
Great update, like this fic so much! I really liked the conversation between Lois & Chloe. " Lane's house of sex" made me lol. I really hate how Lex just falls all over Lana. Ugh. Chloe was the first one Lex took to see the new LuthoMed site though.
Chloe & Lois have two choices as I see it. One- spike Lana's lunch with a little ecoli. That'll take care of her for a while. Two- Chloe & Lois have to devise a more intense plan for Chloe getting Lex. Maybe she has to start touching him more.
Can't wait for the next chapter.
-
Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
I am so into this story. I love how you've written the relationships so far. Chloe and Lex, Chloe and Lois...the dialogue is witty and fun, and just very natural. I can't wait to see how this progresses, especially with the latest...er, development. I would freak out over the kiss, but I figure it's just a little bump in the road, right?
Though I did freak out when I totally mis-read "Lane's house of sex" as "Lana's house of sex". Ack. Heh.
Great update :)

Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
NO! This can't be happening! He can't be kissing Lana! Ugh, you must come back here immediately and remedy this situation!
-
Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
OMG!! what is Lex thinking ? I can't wait for the next update so you can fix this !! I really am loving this fic !!
-
Re: Startling Revelation *Updated 3-27-06 Chapter 5 * (NC-17)
Oh Lex why do you make me hate you so? And yet I can't not love you. I'm looking on the bright side. He shared something special with Chloe, he wants her to see the good side of him. He did decide he'd rather stay with Chloe then help Lana with whatever she wanted when she called. I'm saying either Lex is confused or he is using Lana, either of which I can handle but not too long Lexy. You here me? You better make up your mind fast and it better be with the right woman.
I'm still loving Lois, she is so cool. I want a cousin like her.
Update. Update soon. Update now. I wonder if I can get that translated in Latin and made my slogan?

Lexana? Ickies! Oh, and poor Chloe. She doesn't seem to be having very good luck. Lexana ickiness, falling out of a tree, caught in the rain. If I had a night like that...not that I can climb a tree or anything, I'd cry too. More soon, please!
