This is where an experienced feedbacker would not say it was terrible. They would say it was an interesting take on an idea. And bravo for having the courage to share your special brand of creativity with the world.

This is exactly how I handle such situations, Mindy. I would never tell someone their fic was terrible, although I will usually tell someone if I didn't really enjoy their story in a non-offensive way, e.g. Personally, this is not the kind of thing I really enjoy, but well done with the writing of it... etc.
