Here you can post your podfic of your fanfictions.

NOTE: This is NOT a permanent system, I'm just creating a thread first, to see how the interest for this is. If there's significant interest, I'll set up a system for it :)

To those posting your podfic, please state the name of the fanfiction you're reading, the rating of the fanfiction and the url to the audio file. It will also be good if you include a link to the fanfiction thread, so people can read the fic as well :)

I've just finished listening to this one and loved it-I've downloaded Praying for Rain as well but I'll need more time to listen to it.

One of the things I like the most about this project is being able to listen to the author's voice breathing life into her own words. You've done a great job conveying the need, the angst and despair of both characters. I liked the pacing of the reading, how fast it is when we get Chloe's POV and how it slows down when we start to get Lex's only to pick up halfway. The speed of delivery truly reflects the nature of both characters- Chloe's fire and effervescence and Lex's brooding and inner tumult. It's as if they were actually speaking aloud instead of holding internal monologues.

Great job!

By the way, I believe it'd be a good idea to also add a link to the post where you offered the podfic in the Akin to Love thread so that people know they can listen to it too. :)

This podfic thing is such a great idea for NS! I'm downloading these two right now. I can't wait to listen. Maybe I'll actually get some work done for university while I listen.

OK... here's my first attempt. Let's see what you think. I'm sure there are technical things I'm going to master with time. :) Getting the microphone to work was quite an ordeal... I think the recording ended up being pretty good for a novice. LOL

I'm going to work on the sequel- The Last Ace- either tomorrow or on Friday. A Modern Persephone will be next and maybe a couple of Back from the Dead chapters to make it livelier.

By the way, the podfic has got a little surprise somewhere. I hope you'll like it. *grin*

You're welcome. Let's see what you think of the little surprise in the last part of the reading when the mood kind of picks up... I'm thinking of recording the first or first two chapters of Back from the Dead to do something more dynamic- this one has only a short dialogue at the end and is SV's. LOL.

I don't know why but most of the requests I've got are mostly melancholic or angsty. Oh, well, with Lex in the mix it shouldn't have been such a suprise! And I have a really soft spot for introspective pieces.

Got a moment to listen to it Lexie. Great job. Music and sound effects. Very nice indeed.

This is such fun. Can't wait to listen to more.

I've started doing Sanctuary and I actually found the short, angsty ones much easier to record. The dialogue in long stretches is a challenge, particularly when more than two characters are talking in any one scene. I always feel like I should distinguish between their voices, since there aren't always clear dialogue tags after each line of speech, but I'm just not talented enough for that. Fortunately, Sanctuary is primarily Lex and Chloe, without long scenes with the secondary characters.

Okay, so I finally got a chance to listen to all of these fics and all I can say is that they were all wonderful.

Zannie, you read yours beautifully and gave me an idea of how you pictured the angsty stuff playing out. I also think you have a great voice for reading podfics. I really loved the choice of fics you decided to do.

Lexie, I absolutely love these two stories and I think that your accent gives the stories a little something extra. I can't wait for The Last Ace.

You two are both very talented writters :worship: and I for one greatly appreciate you both taking the time to turn some of your fics into podfics. It is really nice to be able to listen to a story while still getting other work done. I actually felt like I was multi tasking and didn't feel guilty about indulging in reading a fic when I should have been doing something else. So I truly thank you gals for that! :blinkkiss

I was hoping to finish up Sanctuary this weekend but I didn't end up having any time. I've got half of it done, though, so hopefully I can complete it by Monday or Tuesday--assuming I get the Seven for a Secret written today, of course.

That was great. You have a beautiful voice. I loved both stories. I wish I had a car I could drive around listening you read some Chlex. But maybe that would be bad because your voice is so relaxing that I would probably cause an accident. LOL!

This is one of the pluses of listening as opposed to reading or as complementary, if you will. I hope more will volunteer to voice other stories. It's fun and it'd be another way to "recuperate" members who haven't got that much time to sit down and read these days.

Thank you! It's always nice to get native speakers say positive things about one's *British* accent; it's the best compliment an English teacher who's never set foot on the Isles can get. I know what you mean when you say it works with the mood of the fic, although I believe it's a reflection of my "inner pace" as well.

The reading should be more than enough, and I'm not sure I'll be doing this for every single piece, especially in the case of the longer works.

I just got tempted by the software; I love experimenting and it's amazing how much things can change for the better or for the worse when one sets music to them.

I could be a snake charmer or a beast tamer, couldn't I? As a matter of fact, I'd been waiting for someone to bring it up. lol

Yeah, Hope, you aren't the only person to have come under the charm of my voice! As I told Zannie in my answer, I suppose the calming effect I have on people goes beyond my voice; I don't have to speak for people to relax when I'm in the vicinity. I remember half my classmates at college fighting over the chance to enter a classroom with me just to feel relaxed enough to face an examination board.

My mother has a similar effect, particularly on people who are stressed out. In fact, they seem to seek us out and come visit for that very reason. It isn't rare for them to doze off. God, I'm glad I know for a fact it isn't because we're boring or I would develop a gigantic complex! ROTFL No, it's nice to be able to have people feel comfortable enough around us to put their defences down in such a way.

That said, now you must understand why I want to try out reading a longer fic with changes in mood and pace and interspersed dialogue. Although this is you people's fault for liking my introspective pieces as much as to ask me to tape them first, I wouldn't like for you guys to end up in a trance. :rofl:

Lexie pointed me in the direction of this thread (thanks lexie :-) ) so Im off downloading as I type this really looking forward to hearing them..specially in the authors own voices....

I couldn't seem to focus on writing this evening (so no update of Missing - sorry!), but I did finish the podfic of Sanctuary.

It's in three different parts, since I was worried doing one part would be too big a download. Then I figured out how to decrease the size of the mp3 file, so the second parts are longer but about the same size of the first. I think the quality of the smaller-sized files still sounds fine to me. Something weird happened on the 3rd part, and my voice sounds different, even though the microphone and the settings were all the same. I couldn't figure it out, but I don't like how I sound in the last part. Hopefully, it's not too annoying-sounding, and I can figure out what happened so I can fix it when I do the next one.

With the longer story, I had to just press on if I stumbled over words, etc., so it's not as polished as the shorter fics. But I just couldn't take the time to redo things or edit out the parts where I stumble over words. I don't think they're that frequent, so hopefully they're not too distracting. I also did the best I could to distinguish the voices in dialogue, but I'm hopeless at doing voices! This runs less than 3 hours.

All that being said, here it is!

Downloading! I can't wait! I am really digging these podcasts. I listen to them whenever I have to drive somewhere. Now, I'm finding myself driving a lot more. Not exactly a good thing considering these outrageous gas prices, but totally worth it. :)

I'm having problems recording on my computer, so I may have to wait for studio time if I can't figure out how to fix things here at home. It sounds really echo-y when I record. I can't for the life of me figure out why. All of the settings are correct, etc. Could just be this new computer. It's sound settings really suck. At first I thought it was the wood floors downstairs, so I took the laptop upstairs where it is carpeted. Nope, no change.

I've downloaded the three files and listened to three-quarters, Zannie. I love it so far and the little mistakes don't spoil the reading at all. I think I'll take the same approach once I start recording my longer fics or else it'll take me forever. :)

I know that I promised to record The Last Ace next, but I wanted to do some writing to have a new chapter of Compromising Circumstances up today. In other words, I chose something shorter this time, a one-shot of mine which is a personal favourite and that might not be as well-known.

Thanks! I've finished recording "The Last Ace" yesterday, but I want to work a little bit on the technicalities before posting it. In any case, I think it'd be better to wait a little since I posted "A Modern Persephone" and "Stained Glass" too close together and not many people have been visiting the thread during the week. I've got a hunch that if I were to post it now, the podfics that are left in the middle would be overlooked in all probability. :)

Wallflower should come next and then I'm going to start reading Back from the Dead to post it as a whole.

Thanks for your nice words, Zannie. I truly appreciate them. Looking for music that's both suitable and unobtrusive takes a little time but I believe it's totally worth it.

I remember coming across a couple of poems with a similar imagery and thinking they were perfect to describe the development and eventual destruction of Chloe and Lex's relationship as we know it. And when the two pics for the challenge were posted everything came together. Glad you liked it. :)

Thank you. I truly hope some other authors will jump on board because this is fun. And, of course, I'm looking forward to having members who are usually readers give this a chance. :) I believe it's the perfect solution for those who don't have that much time to sit in front a screen to read nowadays, and it also provides the audience with the chance to get to know the authors a little better. In other words, I see it as a kind of bridge over the net; it brings us closer.

Glad you like my voice. My muse is kind of lazy these days- too much on my mind- so I've been recording some other fics. Today I turned Wallflower into a podfic as requested and started working on "Back from the Dead"- it's going to take me quite a while to have the latter ready to post though.

Glad you liked them. I enjoyed playing with the software in The Last Ace and the flashbacks were somewhat challenging so when I came across that particular effect I thought it was just the thing I'd been looking for. :)

Thanks again for listening. I'm currently working on a long-delayed chapter of At Second Sight and my teaching/tutoring has begun in earnest so my next podfic will have to be a short one. Maybe I'll have a little time over the weekend.

I'm planning on recording other fics of mine- in fact, I've started with Back from the Dead, which is the only request I haven't answered to yet but it's a long one and my plate is pretty full at present. I thought of recording other one-shots and I will as soon as I get over a sore throat. :)

I'm still taking requests so if anyone's interested in listening to any particular fic of mine, drop me a line in the thread I opened for that purpose; you can find the link in my signature.

By the way, I got word from an author who's considering recording one of her fics so there's definitely interest amongst us writers.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to advertise it somehow. Many people don't know what podfics are and others haven't even noticed this project was started in the first place. I "bug" my usual followers when I post a new one but those who aren't might have no idea this is around.

I like the format. The software and layout are similar to the ones I have on podbean.com.

Thanks for coming up with this idea. I think it will give the project more visibility and, hopefully, encourage more authors and readers to jump on the wagon. :grin3:

By the way, Julie, would you mind linking the sequel- The Last Ace- in the Undercover Warrior post on the blog once you add the other podfics? Both ficlets should be read/listened to together.

I admit that I didn't know what a "podfic" was until my hubby told me. I've always called them audio fics. Perhaps more people would understand what they are if they were referred to by both terms???

lol, it didn't sound very sexy to me! Plus the constant sniffing and coughing might've broken the flow of the story a bit :P

Sorry for not commenting on this sooner; I've been having some pretty busy schedule of late.

Thanks for sharing three more ficlets, Ultra; they certainly make up for your recent Chlex dry period. I know you aren't as invested in them as you were but I'm still hoping you'll come back now that the show's over. I saved the files and listened to them back-to-back. You've done a nice job. :)

I still have a bunch of one-shots to record- Back from the Dead is a mammoth and is going to take me quite some time to finish- so I'm going to tape more ficlets as soon as, at least, two of my WIPs are close to being wrapped up. Hopefully, other authors and listeners will jump on the wagon before that time arrives. *wink*
