View Full Version : Fanfiction Poster Bot -- Send in your work anonymous and get it posted here on NS!

I'm going to propose an idea here, and whether it gets in motion is entirely up to you guys.

Have you written a fanfiction, but am too scared to jump into this community of talented writers and showing your stuff? Well, then I have a possible solution for you!

I thought I would share an idea with you guys that I had regarding making a dedicated Fanfiction Bot. New people who have a fanfiction written, but are too afraid to post it here, could send it in to me, and I would re-post it for them using the Fanfiction Bot. No one would know who wrote what, just me.

Then when you see that we aren't that scary, ;), I can change the thread owner to the fanfiction writer, so credits will be given to the right person :).

Now, of course we can't have people posting fics anonymously forever, but perhaps for a maximum of 5 fanfictions or something, just to test the waters here.

I'm not suggesting this to you guys so that you can "hide" behind a fake user forever, but for those of you who are new to our community, and feel that it is a bit scary to jump in here with your work, this might give you a good opportunity.

How does that sound? Is that something you would use?

Vote, honestly, on the poll above guys, and let me know in the comments below what you think of this idea! :)

For those of you interested in having your fanfiction posted by the anonymous user follow these steps:

If it's a longer fanfiction please send me the entire document as a file (for an example .doc) to julie @ gmail . com with subject "NS Anonymous Fanfiction".
If it's a shorter story you can simply send me a private message (PM), with the subject: "Anonymous Fanfiction".

In the PM/e-mail include the following:

Title:
Username*:
Rating:
Category: This is the category here on NS Forums.
Summary:
Spoilers:
Disclaimer:
Author Notes:

The ones marked in red are REQUIRED information!

* If you are sending me your fanfiction in an e-mail, you must include your username here on NS Forums!

Send me whatever you want posted. Then send me a new PM/e-mail when you wish to update the fanfiction.

I will post up the fanfictions when I have a chance.

Well, maybe I'm not the right person to be answering on this thread since I've been posting fics from the very first day I joined. *grins* However, I believe this would be a nice idea to encourage shy or insecure newcomers to test the waters.

You never cease to amaze us, Jules! *polishes an apple*

Back when I posted for the first time, this would've been such an awesome idea. I always hate posting in a new forum for the first time, especially fic. Heck, I still panic a little when I post a new fic, but that's probably never going to go away.

I also agree this is a spectacular idea!

Like Sinecure, I always hesitate when posting in a new fandom. It's a frightening experience and it never gets any easier. Even the second or third (or more) fic can be scary. To give new writers this option was a stroke of pure genius and I definitely vote for it's implementation (though I can't actually vote because I can't use it since I'm not new anymore).

While i would probably not use this service myself, as I have no time to write any fanfic to submit.... but I do think it would be a very useful tool for those who want to get into posting there fics on the forum, for new writers, and those who just havent posted fics here before, but have elseware. So I say yes, cool idea julie, and it just another reminder that you go above and beyond in so many ways.

It's a great idea!

I think it can both serve new and shy fanfic authors but also regular authors that might be unsure about their skills for a new kind of story (ex: usually write PG, but want to try Angst...).

Good idea Julie :D

Some have contacted me regarding allowing established authors to also get in on this. That is something I am willing to do, but I want to to point out that this isn't a way to hide behind a fake user, it was meant for new shy users who are afraid to post their work here, because we're such an established community of writers! But I'm willing to dicuss the idea of also allowing established writers to join in.

Let me know what you think! :)

Edit:

I've added three new options on the poll:

# I've posted fics here, but would like to use this.
# I've posted fics here, but I probably won't use this.
# I've posted fics here, but won't use this.

My sentiments exactly, sinecure!

I think if I was venturing into completely new ground topic-wise or rating-wise, I would most likely use this, and I certainly think its an awesome idea for newbies who wish to post fics but are nervous about it. Awesome idea, Julie :)

I wanted to vote in this poll but it seems I'm not allowed to. Guess my member status isn't quite high enough or something to give me clearance ;). But I just wanted to add my two cents worth and say that I think it is a very good idea and a great way to encourage new writers - like myself -to submit their stuff. Hopefully, I'll have something to contribute soon enough. And if I'm feeling a little apprehensive about it then I just might use this. Thanks for all your great efforts on this site Julie!

That was odd. Do you get any error messages? You should have access to vote on polls...

Just thought I would let people know this is still applicable. Whether you're already an established writer, or new at posting fanfictions, if you have a fanfiction up your sleeve and wish to post it here, just send me the required information, and I will happily post it up for you ASAP :)

I think this is a great idea. It has been a while since I have been on here (Life got in the way), but I think what made this site special is anyone could come on here and put their stories up, and this idea just makes it even more inviting to bring in new creative writers to this world. Maybe if I am lucky I will garner up the courage to put my stuff up here...

We will see!
