Author Notes: I want to thank Jay for looking this over and always being there, to have ideas to bounce off of. And to David, who inspired me to write Lana so well. And to Esther, my head cheerleader, who is always so enthused to talk about a certain bald billionaire and a certain snarky blonde gal. Enjoy.

Smallville - Mall - Day Before Father's Day

"Think my father will like this, Chloe?"

"Eh?"

Lana walks over to me. "Earth to Chloe---are you in there, Chloe?"

I snort at her and then look at her hand. "What's that---a reject from a circus clown?"

She snorts now. "No."

"So you just hate Mr. Small."

"No---does it look that bad?"

I sigh. "No---it looks okay. I'm just---what do I get my own father?"

"A tie?"

I shake my head.

"Cologne?"

I sigh, sitting down on a nearby chair.

She joins me, patting my arm. "You're worried that the doctor hasn't gotten back to you."

"Gee, Lana. And I thought I was supposed to read people's moods."

She smiles. "You taught me to not think of myself and think of others."

"So, you thought your dad would love that tie?"

She gets up. "I'll let that pass since you are in a grumpy and worried mood."

I sigh. "Sorry. I think maybe---do you mind if I go home and you finish this by yourself?"

She sits again, taking my hand. "Go---be with your husband---maybe he'll have some idea of what to get your father."

"Like he has experience with his father?" I quip.

She laughs. "I forgot. Well, Lex can be imaginative about things---even if he's never done them before."

I get up with her and give her a hug. "Yes he is. Good luck with your search."

She pulls away and pushes me towards the door. I laugh as I leave and then head towards my Lexus and to my Lex at home.

Luthor Mansion

"Honey, I'm home."

Quiet greets me when I enter our home. Then:

"Mrs. Luthor---your back."

I smile at James. "Evidently you are still the master of understatement, James."

He bows. "I try."

He comes up and walks towards me, taking my purse and then looks at the other arm.

"No packages?"

"No luck. I have no idea what to get my father."

"Well, your father sent over a box of gifts from the past---to give you some ideas. I believe Master Lex has them."

"Oh God!" I groan. "Where is he?" I ask him.

"In the study."

"Great---now he'll tease me about them. I knew I shouldn't have teased Lana," I groan, walking away from James.

"He might not," he shouted out.

"Yeah, right," I grumble, walking towards the study.

I lean into the door, my ear pressed close. Hmmm---either the door is too thick or he's fallen asleep in boredom.

I open the door and see him, behind his desk, a smirk on his face. Oh God.

"Come on in, little girl," he growls out.

I give him my best smirk and walk in, closing the door behind.

I stand there and he gets up, walking around the desk and leaning on it.

"Come on in; I won't bite---unless you want me too."

I shake my head and walk to in front of him. I see---humor there.

"Very funny, Lex."

"Not as funny as some of the gifts you gave your father," he chuckles.

I lean into his body and sigh. "Yeah, I know."

I pull back to see his warm smile and then an impish one. He moves away from me and walks towards the box on his desk. He pulls out a tie I gave my father and muses at it. Then he looks at me.

"Explains his sense of humor."

"What?" I ask him.

He stares at the funky tie and then back at me again

"If you're going to look like a clown---you may as well act like one."

"Very funny, Lex."

"I thought so."

I shake my head and look at the tie, sighing.

"Okay, so kids are color blind when they're younger. But he still wore it---once."

"And after that?" he asks.

"Well, after that---he said he wanted to protect it and put it in the back of his closet."

"Ahhhh---the old protect the gift line," he quips.

I groan. "It was a line, wasn't it? And I fell for it too. Why didn't he just say it wasn't his style or something?"

He places the tie down and walks over to me. He pulls me into his arms.

"It's the thought that counts."

"Yeah and it wasn't much of a thought."

He pulls back. "Sweetheart, I gave my father the best gifts I could think of---a Rolex watch; diamond cufflinks---the best. And you know what he did with them?"

"Had them appraised?"

He chuckles and then gets serious. "No---he put them into a drawer and never looked at them again."

"Oh, Lex," I sigh, pulling him back into my arms. "I'm so sorry," I add.

"Don't be---I knew that he hated me---I just shouldn't have wasted my money on him. I know that now---but as a kid---"

I nod against his chest and then move away. "Lex, what you are saying is that even though I didn't have much money and the gifts were---tasteless---my father loved me enough to use them at least once and not tell me this truth."

He smiles at me. "By Jove, I believe she's got it."

I roll my eyes and then give him a quick kiss on the lips. Then he grins.

"What?" I ask.

"I wonder if that cologne smells like a toxic spill?"

I groan. "Yes, he wore it once and then put it away."

"Would really explain why he liked working in the crap factory," he muses.

"Hey, not all of us can afford Polo."

He waggles his finger at me. "Remember---the thought counts."

I snort and before I can say another word, my cell rings.

"Saved by the bell," I quip, going into my pocket and getting it out.

"Hello---yes, Doctor?"

I look at Lex and his worried face. Then I grin at what the doctor is saying and his tension lessens. I close the cell and look at him.

"What?" he asks.

"Come on---let's go see my father and give him his father's day present."

"But, it's a day early."

"Yes, but this is the mother of all Father's Day presents---and it just can't wait."

"What?"

I roll my eyes and sigh.

"Or should I say one of the future Father's Day and Grandfather's day presents of all time."

He stares at me and I lift an eyebrow. Then it dawns on him.

"A baby," he whispers out.

I nod.

"A baby," he says again.

"Ah---yes---you okay, Lex."

"A Baby!" he shouts out, pulling me into his arms.

I melt into his arms and sigh. Yes, the gift I'm giving to a future father and my father, is going to be the mother of all father's day presents---a son or daughter to cherish. As to the child, I can't wait to see the father day's gifts Lex is going to get from her or him. But I don't think it'll ever top the one I'm giving my father and him this year---I really don't.

The End.
