"An Irish Lass Worth Fighting For" - by PMD

The Talon - St. Patrick’s Day - Night Time

I walk into the place, only here to get the books.

There's green everywhere. The walls, the tables, the food. Even the drink---green tea. No liquor allowed here---thank God---I hate green beer.

"Lex?"

I look at Lana, behind the counter, also in green. Wow---she actually owns another color. I smirk at that thought.

"Lex?"

I blink and smile at her. "Lana. The books if you please."

She tries a smile on me that just tells me:

"They're not finished, are they?"

"Ah---got caught up with people coming in. I'm sorry, Lex. It'll just be a few more minutes---can you wait?"

"Sure he can, Lana. He can stay and protect me from the brutes in here. After all, I am an Irish Lass worth fighting for---aren't I, Luthor?"

I smirk and turn around to look at Chloe---standing there in green---and wearing---

"What the hell are you wearing?"

"Green eye-shadow---Lana's idea."

"And it was her idea for you to dye your hair green?" I ask, noticing the green bangs under her green tam.

She takes off her tam and then takes off her hair.

"It's fake---see."

She has her hat in one hand and the wig in the other. She then shakes her blonde hair for a minute.

"God, this thing makes my head sweat."

"And now you know why I never got a toupee---it makes my scalp sweat."

She frowns for a moment.

"What?" I ask.

"I'm sorry, Lex."

She turns away from me and walks to a table, sitting down on the bench.

I sigh and walk over to join her, sitting on the opposite side of her.

"About what?"

She places her hat and wig beside her and puts a hand over mine.

"For that toupee thing----for not believing in you---for hating you for so long. For---not trusting you."

"Well, I did some things that weren't very trustworthy."

"True---but I think that could have never happened or changed sooner if you had somebody who believed in you."

"Clark?"

"No---me."

"Well, you do now and that's what counts. Chloe, I wasn't always a nice guy but it wasn't only because of nobody there to believe in me. It's me going down the wrong path because I was pushed there by my father."

She sighs. "And now---we're okay---you're okay?"

Before I can say a word, we hear:

"Hey, Blondie---come over here and hold my hand."

She rolls her eyes and then shakes her head.

"Let me deal with this," I state, with an evil grin.

"I can do it myself."

"Chloe---the last guy you took care of had first degree burns on him."

"Yeah, and I wasted a good cup of coffee on him too."

I chuckle at that. "Let the master show you how to be subtle."

She snorts at that. "Okay---Lex---do your best."

I take away my hand and get up, walking over to the guys table.

"Can I help you?"

"You aren't Blondie."

"Very astute of you. Can I help you?"

"You aren't Blondie."

"I believe we have established that already. So, what can I get you? A coffee, a muffin---how about the map to the exit?"

"A side of Blondie."

I sigh. "Let's try this again, shall we?"

"Are you hard of hearing----I want Blondie to come over here and sit on my lap."

"You don't look like Santa Claus."

He glares at me and I just smile.

Then I lean in and growl. "The girls with me."

I back away to:

"She won't be if she comes over. I'll show her a really good time---that will have her wanting more---if you know what I mean."

Lex---calm, cool thoughts. Keep it level---breathe in, breathe out.

"Hey, Blondie---come on over and I'll let you have some of my coffee---off my finger."

That's it!

I move away and am about to pull him out of the seat when she's by my side, and dumping green tea on him.

"Hey!" he roars.

"Get out of here, now!" I growl.

He looks at her and then me---I'm fuming mad. She moves away and I join her, my arm around her shoulder.

He gets up and eyes his friends who sigh, getting up too. They start towards the door until:

"Gentlemen---do not come back here if you value your skin."

I look at Chloe, who's grinning. I shake my head and look back at the guys, slinking out the door.

"I said I would take care of it."

"You would have ended up in jail---or worse---the hospital, Lex."

I back away and turn, in front of her now. "You don't think I could have taken on that brute?"

"He's bigger than you."

"And I'm a boxer, remember."

She sighs. "Once more---I let you down."

She turns around and walks to the table, picking up her hat and wig. She walks away from me---I'm still too stunned to speak.

"Lana---I need my coat."

I watch as Lana walks out of the office, coat in hand.

"Chloe, are you okay?"

She shakes her head, taking the coat and stuffing her hat in one pocket and her wig in the other.

"Lana where's my---"

Before she can finish, Lana gestures to a waitress behind the bar and she hands her the purse, giving it to Chloe.

She waves a thank you at Lana and is out the door.

"Lex---go after her, you idiot!"

I blink my eyes, staring at Lana.

"What?"

She walks up to me. "Go after the woman you love, you jerk, or I'll be throwing hot stuff on you."

My eyes widen and then I smile. "Hard to hide?"

"From a woman who loves her husband, yes. Now go."

I pat her arm and make it to the door before my business sense takes over.

I turn and:

"I'll take the books over to the mansion after I'm done here. Now go."

I nod and am out the door, looking up and down the street---finally seeing her by her car.

"Hey, Irish Lass worth fighting for."

She turns to look at me, tears there. "Leave me alone, Luthor."

"I don't think I will."

She stands there, sobbing. "Please, leave me alone."

I start to walk towards her. "No."

"Please."

I'm in front of her now. "I promised myself that I would protect the people I love, no matter if they want it or not."

She looks into my eyes and hers widen. "You love me? Why?"

I chuckle. "Chloe are you still that insecure around Lana?"

She smiles. "A little."

"Don't be---she's one type of beauty---you are another."

"Really?"

"Yes, Irish Lass worth fighting for."

She leans up, about to kiss my cheek, when I move and our lips meet, for five seconds.

I back away, sly grin on my face.

"Well, I guess you are a Scottish Lad worth fighting for," she quips.

I take her hand and lead her away from her car.

"Where are we going, Scottie?" she ponders.

"I was thinking---the Scottish castle needs a little St. Patrick’s Day decorating and that hat and wig would look nice on the mantle in my study."

She stops and moves till she's in front of me. "For how long?"

"Well, we'll put it away every year and bring it out---as a remembrance."

"What remembrance?"

"How an Irish Lass worth fighting for, let a Scottish Lad do it---for 5 minutes at least."

She grins. "Yeah, I figured you would lose your temper after that. You know, I swear you got some Irish blood in you too, Lex."

I take her hand and as we walk:

"Did I ever tell you that my mother was part Irish?"

The End.
