Summery: Like most everyone I have taken poetic license with the time line of events occurring within the actually TV series and what my muse is currently beating out of my head… I hope you guys enjoy this anyway. It doesn’t follow any continuity but rather traces the twisted depths of my mind. Please let me know if you want to archive this… Just so I know where I can visit my babies.

Disclaimers: Muse, did you check the couch? How about the bottom of my purse? Nope, no money found. Smallville characters were not harmed in the writing of this piece of fiction. Sorry guys, no money made in using these characters either. Smallville, DC, and the WB are still raking it in. Thanks for asking.

The pain was incredible. It was undeniable and for a brief moment it was crippling. She couldn’t breath. She couldn’t even cry out as she watched his perfect lips slip and slide over hers. He cupped her face in his large gentle hands holding her as if she were the most fragile thing on earth. She backed slowly away from the Kent farm gate and ran into a warm solid form. To her horror she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes as she stared in horror at Lex’s frown. Embarrassment washed over her in hot scalding waves as she struggled to remember how to breathe.

The sharp retort that sprang to Lex’s mouth was muffled as his intelligent blue eyes took in the idyllic scene of the young lovers in the barn loft and the ashen pale face of the normally animated reporter at his side. He took the young woman gently by the arm and led her to his new Lamborghini Gallardo the car that he had brought over to show Clark. He settled the shaking young woman in the car before glancing up at the barn loft once more. He could feel his jaw tighten as he watched Clark’s large hand close over the breast of the lovely Lana Lang before roaring away.

Lex glanced at his companion every few minutes to check her progress. At first the only sound that could be heard in the car were the harsh sounds of her trying to suck in enough air until she finally managed to regain her composure. He had expected weeping, cursing, anything but the silence. For whatever reason that scared him more then her venting her emotions. She had locked herself away and while he could appreciate iron control he never expected it from someone as volatile as Ms. Sullivan.

“Take me home Lex,” she told him finally as she leaned her head back against the seat silent in her defeat.

“Are you sure, Ms. Sullivan,” he asked in his usual cool tones. He glanced over at her pale profile to find her normally generous mouth pressed together in a firm pale line.

“Yes please,” she sounded so cool and formal.

“Chloe, please call me. I can explain about the loft,” Clark’s voice sounded so sincere so concerned but she wasn’t fooled by his tone. “I miss you.”

Chloe managed to take her finals weeks ahead of schedule and graduate early. Smallville had suddenly felt just like that, too small. Gabe wasn’t fooled in the least he knew that there was something wrong with his daughter. For weeks she had been a ghost going through the motions of existing but never actually living. She no longer chased random stories or ventured very far from her front door for that matter. She refused to see any of her friends.

He wasn’t sure what had caused such a radical change, all that he knew was that she was hurting deeply so when she approached him with a logical argument for wanting to graduate early and take advantage of staying in Lois’s empty apartment in the city he was helpless to deny her anything.

*-*-*-*-*-*

The apartment was cramped but the coffee shop around the corner offered Chloe a haven that she needed. She often came to watch and observe the people coming and going. Her internship at the Planet seemed to be going well and summer classes were challenging without being too demanding.

Today was one of those afternoons that she was actually free to enjoy. She quietly sat pouring over her newspaper trying to decide what to do with her free time when a familiar voice broke into her concentration.

“Chlo,” only Clark could say her name like that and get away with it.

Her startled gaze shifted from her paper to his face. His cheeks were slightly flushed with pink and his blue eyes were full of remorse as he stared down at her with an agonized expression on his face. He dropped into the chair across from hers without waiting for an invitation.

“Chloe, you left town without giving me a chance to explain,” he stared hesitantly.

“That should have been your first clue, Clark,” Chloe was slightly pleased at the steady even tone of her voice as she swallowed her shock at finding him here. Clark glanced away before looking back into her eyes.

“I was an idiot, Chloe,” he started as he reached out to take her hand in his warm grasp. “I’m sorrier then I can say but I am not ready to give up on us.” His voice was sincere and his eyes begged her to believe him. Chloe leaned back in her chair and took back her hand.

She studied his wind tousled hair, taking in his sincere almost puppy dog expression, and his pale cheeks with their high cheek bones. Suddenly it all became crystal clear to her. He lacked depth because he was too wrapped up in what was the moment that he failed to see what was coming next.

“What happened, Clark,” she asked as she suddenly felt lighter then she had in months. “I figured that you and Lana would be making plans for that white wedding by now.” She took morbid pleasure in watching him flinch.

“I told her the truth,” Clark said in a hesitant voice. Chloe gave a harsh bark of laughter at the ironic twist of events it caused other people seated near them to turn in surprise. Clark looked definitely uncomfortable.

“So you finally came clean and she rejected you,” Chloe shook her head at the thoughts that ran through her head. “I have known all this time and you threw me away. Now you want me back because I didn’t reject you.” Chloe rose to her feet as she quickly gathered her things to stuff into her over sized messenger’s bag. “Those are the breaks,” she told him as she left the coffee shop.

She ignored the sound of her name being called as she shoved her way through a crowd of people. She felt a bruising hand on her arm whirl her around and slam her body against the wall of the building behind her. She struggled to regain her wind as the breath was knocked from her and her eyes stung with tears when her head connected with the wall behind her.

“Let her go,” a frosty voice came from behind Clark as Chloe blinked back tears of pain. “I am not going to say it again, Kent. Let her go,” Clark turned around to see Lex standing slightly behind him with a cold hard look on his face.

Chloe fumbled in her bag for a small box while Clark was distracted. The look of surprise on his face when she slammed her knee into a delicate portion of his anatomy was almost worth getting slammed into the wall. He crumpled like a ton of bricks and looked like he was trying not to puke his guts up. She gave him a small glimpse of the green meteor rock that she held in her hand and watched his eyes widen with silent understanding.

“I am done with you,” She told him in a soft voice as Lex reached for her ignoring the crowd that started to gather behind them to watch the traumatic scene in the street.

His glacier cold eyes dared anyone to say anything as he escorted the petite blonde to his car. He could feel her sway against him slightly and then sag against him limply. He gave a slight grumble as he picked up the unconscious Ms. Sullivan. It seemed that the young woman in his arms was on his mind a lot lately. It was un- nerving and he felt uncomfortable in his skin to have this particular woman on his mind as often as she had been.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

He almost died in this room. The faint smells of burnt wood and brandy still lingered in the air. He sat in the same chair that he’d been tied to trying to regain both his composure and sense of self. Everything that he’d learned about women being disposable was wrong. He knew it was even before he had seduced those women or allowed them to use and seduce him for their own means. Maybe Clark was right maybe he should have lay in his bed and taken his punishment like a man. Lex felt a cool hand rest on his shoulder as he glanced around vaguely startled.

Chloe had waited for almost a good five minutes in the doorway before venturing into the room. She waited until the police and Clark left before venturing in to the mansion.

“Hey,” she said softly as she knelt on the floor next to his chair. She took in the lines of exhaustion and pain that lined his normally smooth face. He was bruised and batter and had been left alone by Clark, as usual.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said quietly. His eyes were full of pain and self hate. Her lips turned up in a slight smile as she rubbed his shoulder gently.

“Neither should you, Lex,” she said as she tugged at his arm. “Come on; let me get you cleaned up.”

She half expected him to protest, to shove her away. Instead he allowed her to lead him from the room to his bedroom. He swayed on his feet slightly before sinking down on the bed. Chloe shrugged out of her jacket and dropped her purse by the door as she watched him.

She hadn’t seen him since that confrontation with Clark. For whatever his reasons were he simply took care of her that night. He allowed her to soak his shirt front with her tears. He forced her to eat dinner and to take the medicine that the doctor he called had left for her. He stayed with her when she rallied against her pain hating herself for being used by Clark and Lana. He stayed when the night terrors came. He was there for her and in the coming of the morning light he was gone. His number written in his distinctive masculine scrawl taped to her refrigerator let her know that he hadn’t been a dream.

He flinched when she reached for him. Her heart broke to see someone so strong torn apart by his emotions. Most people thought that he was cold and hard. They thought that he was on the same road of conniving evil as his father was on but Chloe knew better. She knew him. She watched through the years as he reached for something that was beyond his grasp because of his wealth, his power, and his name.

She soothed him with her hands light and gentle as they tended his wounds. She allowed her tears to fall freely because she knew that he never would. His face a stoic iron mask as she moved around him. She eased the stained and torn shirt from his shoulders and sucked in air at the sight of the bruises that marred his skin.

“Don’t,” he flinched as she rested her hand lightly on his wrist to unbutton his sleeves. “I’m dirty.” He glanced away as if to hide from her. Chloe knelt at his feet and touched the side of his face with her cool fingertips.

“Hey, it’s okay,” she smiled lightly into his face as she forced him to look at her. She knew that her face was slightly red from her tears. “So am I, Lex.” He looked startled at her statement as he raised a hand to thumb away a crystalline tear leaving behind a smug.

“Why are you here,” he asked as she pulled him from the bed to lead him to the bathroom.

“Karma, Lex. Karma”

The lights swirled and pulsed with the beat of the music. Chloe ignored everything that went on around her. Her mind focused on the pulsating beat that drove her hips and body. She needed this. This pulse of the music that mocked the pulse that she had drank so deeply from a few months ago. Random scenes scattered and played out behind her eyes.

He was silent as she led him into his bathroom for a moment he looked slightly stunned by the harshness of the bright lights. His handsome face twisted in a scowl as he ran a hand over his face only to wince at the slight bruise that he found there. Chloe watched him from the corner of her eye as she started the water in the shower adjusting it to a hot but not uncomfortable temperature. She recognized the emotions that she saw playing across his face. She was on intimate terms with her own feelings of self disgust and self loathing.

She guided him to the closed toilet seat and gave him a slight push until he sat. Once again she found her self kneeling at his feet as she guided his feet from the shoes and socks that he’d been wearing.

Chloe felt the man’s hot breath panting against her face and could smell the beer on his breath as he tried to grab her around her waist. Chloe found herself revolted by his overpowering cologne as she shoved him away to loose herself within the confines of the crowd. Her breaths came in controlled pants as the music once again called out like a seductive siren.

She hesitantly gazed up into his face as he stared down at her. His thoughts rolled through his mind as Chloe wondered briefly if she had perhaps suddenly became a meteor freak. His eyes demanded answers to the questions that she couldn’t answer. He trembled with a need that he would never voice.

She stood him up and hesitated before reaching for the silver of his belt buckle. Her fingers felt clumsy and disjointed as she pulled the leather from around his slender waist. She glanced up to find his eyes focused on a spot behind her head and she gave a small sigh of worry. It worried her that he had not spoken in all of this time. He was uncharacteristically docile. With a gentle shove she pushed him into the shower and tried to ignore the lean muscled flesh that she had uncovered. She scooped his dirty and stained cloths making sure his pockets were empty and threw them away.

It didn’t take her long to strip her clothing from her body and step into the shower with him. She felt a shiver of intimidation as she watched him leaning against the wall in front of him. It was her gentle hands that brought him back into himself. Her touch wasn’t sexual but rather brisk as she scrubbed the offensive smells from his skin until he was pink under the pulse of the shower. Her soap hands followed the lean contours of his body.

This time the pounding beat of the music gave way to something slower not as driving. She swayed to the tempo. Her heart raced as she rocked against the beat until her skin tingled and once again her movements interrupted by the touch of a man. This time it was a light spicy scent something that she was familiar with that invaded her senses as she felt him move up behind her. He didn’t touch her but she could feel the heat that rolled off his body. It scorched her exposed skin from the back of her neck to her thighs as they swayed to the music.

He raised a hand to touch her face and Chloe forced herself not to flinch as he gently scrubbed away the smug that he had left on her face.

“Who are you,” he asked as a wave of relief washed over her at his normal cultured tones.

“You know me. I have always been here Lex,” Chloe raised her hands to rest them gently on his chest for the lack of anything better to do with them. She glanced up into his face to find his eyes still haunted but he was more in control of himself. “Let’s get you into bed. You’ll feel better after some sleep.”

“Are you going to play centurion to guard against the nightmares,” his lips twisted in a bitter smirk as he took the fluffy towel that she handed him.

“I’m here Lex,” her eyes bright with determination as she paused and continued to dry off. Naked she slid into bed with him spooning against his hard back with both of her arms wrapped around him. Together they listened to the silence of his house and all the small creaks and moans that a house makes in the silence of the night.

She felt him tense slightly against her as he rolled over and faced her. His eyes were dark in the dim light. She reached her hand to touch the side of his face as he stared down at her. He lowered his head and brushed his lips lightly against hers. She felt herself suddenly settle and still under his light touch. Her lips tingled from where he had brushed against hers.

Chloe leaned into the familiar warmth of him as he slid an arm around her gyrating hips to pull her closer to the hard length of his body. Her eyes slid closed as she slipped her hand up and around to graze his smooth scalp with her fingertips. Her head fell back to rest against the hard shoulder as she almost sighed in pleasure. She felt him reach a hand up to take her hand in a light grip. His lips grazed the sensitive skin of her wrist. She shivered at the tickling caresses that cause her skin to prickle with awareness.

It was easy to flip him onto his back when he wasn’t expecting it. Chloe straddled his stomach to look into his face. She leaned in and let her lips roam and graze the planes of his face with light caresses. His eyes silently demanded something of her that she couldn’t put a name to but she knew without being told that he was still aching with his pain. Her mouth silenced him when he would have spoken. She soothed him with her hands and excited him with her firm, supple body pressed against his.

When his hands reached up to grip her waist she forced them back. Her hands teased the firm muscles of his chest alternating between light strokes and firm demanding ones. He knew how to fuck but she wasn’t gearing him up for a fuck. She made love to him, showing him with her body and her silent caring what it meant. Her lips trailed a wet line down the strong column of his neck. Her teeth grazing his collar bone only to sooth the spot with the wet suction of her mouth. His breathing had taken on a different tempo. It had deepened in his rising excitement.

Lex didn’t plan on being here tonight. He did his best to forget about the woman who had held him that night so many weeks ago. The emotions that rose in him scared him and fear wasn’t something that he dealt with well. She got to him and got inside his head. She knew him almost as well as he did. She was a danger. At least that was what he tried to convince himself and almost managed to succeed until he spotted her dancing alone on the floor below him.

He watched her seductive movements and recognized the throbbing rhythm of her hips. He had felt those exact movements against his own. He could feel himself harden against the fabric of his pants even as his date pressed her over abundant breasts against his forearm and tossed her long brunette hair over one shoulder.

His hand gripped the railing in a white knuckled hold as he watched a man dared to touch her. He almost choked on the wave of possessive jealous that rose. He set his glass down with a firm click and brushed past his date, heading for the stairs that lead to the dance floor. Relief flooded him as she shoved the man away and moved off. For a moment he panicked as he lost sight of her in the crowd.

She lazily explored his body with her hands and mouth. She knelt between his legs as she slid lower. Her hands massaged the lean columns of his thighs as she took in the site of Lex. He reclined against the pillows watching her with glittering eyes waiting to see what she would do next. Her hands began to move in a circular pattern as they moved closer to center of his body and the proof of his excitement.

He throbbed and pulsed when she settled her hands against him. His head involuntarily rocked back into the pillows with a gasp as he sucked in air. He could feel her hot breath against the sensitive tip before he felt her silky tongue slip across the top. Her movements unrushed as she tasted him. Her hands held his hardness stead as she slid her wet mouth down his length. His hands fisted at his sides as he gasped at the pleasure. She used her hands, lips, tongue, and sucking heat of her mouth to bring him to the point of explosion only to change the pressure the strength of her sucking to add to his torment that left him trembling and aching for the release that only she could give him.

He reached for her as she moved, pulling her into the heat of his body as he rocked against her in a familiar pattern. When she reached behind her to touch him he felt an irrational wave of anger that she didn’t turn to see who would touch her so intimately. He reached for her hand to drag it away from the sensitive skin of his head. His lips grazing the pulse point in her wrist as he breathed in her scent, the smell that haunted him.

Chloe slowly turned in his arms to face him. Her eyes hooded and guarded as she swayed against him. He could feel the hard points of her nipples as she rubbed against his body. He wrapped both of his arms around her to pull her more snuggly against his body as she gasped at the hardness the pressed against her stomach as they rocked to a beat of their own making.

She rose above him as she dragged her mouth away from his pounding hardness. He moaned with the loss of sensation his eyes silted to watch her silvery form straddle his hips to rock against his hardness. The sounds of her slight panting could be heard as she coated him with her excitement as he pulsed against her clit. Her hands occasionally guided him inside her tight, soaking, heat, only to further wet his tip as she pressed it against her until with a shudder she slid him inside and allowed her hips to fall with one smooth stroke seating him to the hilt. He fought for control as he felt her tighten and ripple around him as she gave a soft cry of pleasure.

He fought against the pull of her body as she moved and swayed above him. He could feel himself brush against the firm flesh of her cervix adding to the sensations. Her hips rose and fell with strong stokes.
She took both of his hands in hers. She silently showed him how to touch her as she rode him. Together they explored her body and throbbing center as her thrusts became less defined and more anxious. He could feel her tighten around him as he fought for control. The demands of her body wouldn’t allow it as he felt the convulsions of her orgasm. With a roar his back arched under her driving him deeper as he sporadically slammed his hips against her drawing out the pleasure.

He only meant to close his eyes for a moment to ease the gritty feeling in them but when he opened them she was gone. With the coming of the morning light she disappeared.

He raised a hand to smooth back her soft hair away from her damp face. Chloe closed her eyes at the gentleness of his touch as she turned her face towards his hand. Her lips parted with the remembered pleasure of his touch. She felt his drag his thumb over her sensitive bottom lip as her tongue darted out to taste him.

The sensual heat that they found themselves in was broken when Lex was jerked away. Chloe slammed back into herself as her eyes snapped open to find Lex being barged by an angry looking woman. The woman was stunning with her sensual full mouth painted crimson and her brown eyes snapping with temper.

Chloe suddenly felt small and insignificant next to what was obviously Lex’s date. Chloe tore herself away from his light grip only to notice the woman smirking at her triumphantly as Chloe stumbled back through the crowds. She vaguely heard him call her name as she moved away almost desperate to get away. Karma, it was everywhere you were going to be.

I love the idea of karma in relation to Lex and Chloe. But Chloe should know she's better than any slut that Lex dates. Let's hope that Lex'll convince her. I can't wait to see their next confrontation. Should be explosive. Keep up the great work (and I need to stop sounding like a teacher.)

Author’s Notes: Hey thanks everyone that has been posting to this story!!!! You just have NO IDEA how much I appreciate it! I know that I need to get back to Sunrise Kisses but this is what keeps pouring out of me. What can I say… My muse is a ornery old bag!

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Every month it was worse and today was no exception. Her own self doubts clawed at her, it ate her up from the inside. She understood why her father tried to protect her from this. Why he sheltered her within his lies. It was easier to believe that her mother was a heartless woman that left behind her daughter to pursue something else rather then the truth of her insanity. Over the years she should have known the bitter agony of uncovering the truth.

She wanted to scream with her pain but instead she crossed the tiny living room to pick up the phone and dial the number that was still taped to her fridge where he left it. She had to dial the number twice because her hands were shaking so hard. It only rang once when he picked up. His cultured tones swept over her as her scalding tears slipped from her wide eyes and she disconnected as the roaring in her ears became almost too much for her to bear. Her tears when they tore from her left her on the floor. Her fists pounded against the hard wood with the drum of her heart beat as she struggled to reign in her helpless rage and fear.

*-*-*-*-*-*

Lex carried it with him everywhere that he went. The small silver phone held only one number in its memory. He faithfully recharged it every night only to slide it into his pockets along with his loose change and keys every morning. Its presence was just a constant reminder of a girl’s laughing eyes and easy smile, the girl who no longer existed. It’s what drove him and pushed him to dig for the secrets of the man that brutally murdered her with a careless kiss on a warm Sunday afternoon.

It sickened him that they couldn’t see what they did to her how they carelessly killed her and then acted like nothing happened. Weeks passed and he watched every time she flinched at Clark and Lana’s casual remarks but he’d seen it. He’d seen every wound that they left behind; helpless to stop it determined to make them suffer in the end.

Except today his constant companion gave off a cheerful shrill while sitting in his father’s offices listening to another one of his rants over another of his supposed failures. He found himself on his feet and striding for the doors before the phone could ring a second time. He knew who had called him even though dead silence was on the other end. There was only one person that had the number.

*-*-*-*-*-*

Chloe lay panting in the middle of her living room exhausted by her tears and fury when she was startled by a sudden furious banging at her door. Every muscle ached as she dragged herself up from the floor. She pushed herself to move faster as the pounding picked up in speed and intensity. She jerked the door open to find Lex about to apply his shoulder to her door. He hesitated for a moment as he took in her tears and her bruised hands. Chloe could feel her tears spill over once more at the look of concern on his face.

“Chloe,” his hands were rough as they gathered her to his chest. His relief eased the tension that had gripped him from the moment of her call. One of her neighbors opened their door to glance at them in the hallway. He fought back a brief flicker of embarrassment as he stared at them with a stony expression on his face.

He guided her back into the apartment and sat next to her on the sofa while she struggled to gain control over herself. Lex glanced around the apartment for a moment taking in the scattered paperwork and textbooks that littered the small cheap dinette. Unlike his own residence the small room was alive with the evidence of someone living there.

“Chloe,” he asked softly as she finally seemed to have quieted and leaned her head back against the cheap fabric of the couch. She opened her mouth to speak but her voice came out in a hoarse croak. He rose and smoothly crossed to her small kitchen to bring her a glass of water. He watched as the smooth lines of her throat worked as she drank half the glass.

“What are you doing here,” she asked when she could finally focus on his face.

“You called me remember,” Lex said as he watched her reactions.

Chloe vaguely remembered dialing his number as she rose from the confined space of the couch. Suddenly he seemed too large too powerful and she needed to put distance between them. She could remember how he felt underneath her his hot, firm skin and the taste of his mouth on hers.

“What’s happened Chloe,” he asked as he leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees as he watched her grip the widow sill where she stood.

“I remember the day that Clark came to me needing my help when you were institutionalized,” Lex couldn’t hide his look of amazement that she would make such an announcement so casually. “It was my lifeline, it was my hope for me,” Chloe told him as she shivered when the apartment’s small window air conditioner kicked on.

“Getting institutionalized was your hope,” he asked with a frown marring his normally smooth forehead. Chloe rested her forehead against the window watching the daylight give way to the evening’s twilight.

“No,” she glanced at him with wide and haunted eyes. “It was how normal you came out of it. It gave me hope that one day I might come out normal.”

Lex sat as he tried to digest what she was trying to tell him but he couldn’t shake the feeling like he was missing all of the pieces to the puzzle.

“Some would hardly call me normal,’ Lex tried to interject their familiar banter into his voice. “What brought this up?”

“My,” Chloe paused as she sucked in a deep breath. “I have been going to Belle Reeve for the last year.” She leaned her forehead against the window. “My mother has been there since I was five,” she told him with a small voice.

Lex rose from his seat and started to take her into his arms but he hesitated for a moment. He sensed how fragile she was at the moment, how brittle she was and he slid his hands into his pockets to resist the urge to touch her.

“I’m sorry,” he told her as he watched her flinch from the sound of his voice. “I had no idea.”

“Nobody did,” Chloe told him with a trace of bitterness and anger creeping into her voice. “Nobody knew but my father, Clark, and me.”

The tears that she had kept at bay suddenly broke free in a jagged stream down her face as he felt his light touch on her shoulder. She raised a hand and angrily wiped them away as she turned to face him.

“I have been going every week since I found her last year,” she looked up into his composed face and paused for a minute.

“What happened when you went today,” he asked as he thumbed away another tear.

“She died, Lex. She died all alone in that terrible place,” she sobbed. “I don’t want to end up alone like her.”

He wrapped his arms around her as her whole body shook against his. He held her as the storm of her weeping shook them both until she finally quieted against him. She took in the warm of his body and the comfort of his arms.

“You will never end up in such a place, Chloe,” he whispered reverently against the hair at her temple. “It’s not in your Karma.”

Fucking rat bastards, they were all nothing but money grubbing fucking rat bastards. Chloe stared down at the eviction notice that she held in her hand. She mentally calculated how much money she had tucked away for classes and the like her featured twisted in a grimace. She wasn’t broke yet but if these set back constantly kept up she was perilously close to being dirt poor and not being able to finish school. The sound of her telephone ringing caused her to frown in irritation until she glanced at the clock and noted the time.

“Sullivan Mortuaries, you stick’e we slab’em. This Tuesday, we are offering a two for one deal,” she grinned into the phone as she tried not to laugh at the momentary silence that filled the line.

“Wouldn’t a simple hello work,” Lex asked as his amusement came through the phone wires.

“Where’s the fun in that,” she asked as she threw open the doors of her cabinets.

Tonight’s dinner choices left something to be desired. It was a toss up between soup and canned raviolis. She liked listen to Lex chuckling in her ear. His voice rolled over her like a smooth brandy.

“Shouldn’t you be dreaming of your next million,” she asked as she dragged out a pot to heat up her soup.

“What are you doing,” he asked as she heard the frown in his voice completely as he ignored her remark.

“Making dinner,” she said as she glanced down at the eviction notice again.

“At this hour,” he asked with a note of censure in his voice.

“Well, I just got home,” Chloe told him defensively.

“Chloe,” she hated it when he took that tone with her.

“Shut up Luthor,” she told him in way of a warning.

His mother must have been one great mom before she died because he had the mother hen thing down pat. She hadn’t seen Lex since the day that they buried her own mother. He had been there to help her make preparations for her mother and even offered to pay for the arrangements. Chloe in her stubbornness and pride refused to let him. He stayed with her the entire day forcing her to go through the motions, drying her tears when they fell.

Then a week later the phone calls started. Promptly at 10 PM her normally silent phone would ring. Their conversations ranged between the absurd to the current political climate of the nation. The only things that they didn’t talk about in their late night chats were anything personal. It seemed to be an unspoken agreement between the two of them.

“When are you coming back,” she asked as she strolled over and plopped herself down on the sofa.

“I should be back the day after. Do you have big plans for the weekend,” he asked casually.

“Just the usual, homework, packing, and apartment hunting,” Chloe cringed soon as the words left her mouth. “Not necessarily in that order.”

“Why are you apartment hunting and packing,” he asked. Of course he would pick up on those two facts, she should have known better.

She could hear the scowl in his voice. There was no sense in trying to hide it from Lex. He would just badger her until she came clean or use one of the many means at his disposal to find out what was going on.

“I got an eviction notice today. I guess that Lois forgot to renew the lease or something and since she is not in the country at the moment,” Chloe let her voice trail off. “I’m not worried though,” she tried to assure him. “I’m sure that I can crash with Lana until I find a new place. The Kent’s will let me store most of this stuff in their barn.”

She could almost feel the wheels in his head spinning.

“Why don’t you stay at my place,” he asked hesitantly.

“The mansion is a bit of a commute, Lex,” she said as she grinned into the phone. “Besides I don’t have a helicopter at my disposal.”

“Actually, I have a place in the city,” Lex said quietly.

“I can’t do that, Lex,” she told him as she twisted the phone cord around her finger.

“I’m not there very often, just a couple of nights a week” he told her.

“I wouldn’t want to put a crimp on your debauchery of the local brunettes,” she told him with a smile. Her efforts were rewarded with a rich chuckle from Lex that warmed her to her toes.

“It wouldn’t,” he assured her as her stomach flipped in an unsettling
manner. “You’d actually be helping me out.”

“Why, is the maid pilfering the silverware,” she asked.

“No, but the apartment sits empty too long at a stretch,” Lex told her. “It would be easier then find another place.”

Chloe wasn’t fooled in the least. She could almost hear the snobbery that he tried to keep out of his voice.

“Yeah, but I don’t want to get out of the shower and have your father standing in the bedroom,” she shuddered at the thought. “That’s just icky.” She could hear him chuckle on his end.

“I can appreciate how,” he paused searching for another word.

“Icky, Lex,” she teased. “The word is icky.”

“Surely there is another word to be used that doesn’t sound like a kindergartner speaking,” he told her in a slightly disgruntled manner.

“Okay, gross,” she fired back.

“Well, at least we have graduated to middle school,” his smile could be heard through the phone line. “And to think you’re a reporter,” he replied back dryly.

That was the very nature of their relationship. One was always pushing and the other was resisting. Sometimes she wondered what the hell he got out of this. She was sure that not many people had the guts to argue with Lex Luthor especially when he’d decided on a course of action. It was like trying to push a boulder uphill as she came up with one excuse after another not to move in only to be shot down.

“Fine, I’ll make arrangements for the movers to,” Lex started to say but Chloe butted in at that moment.

“Just have a key and an address waiting for me, Lex. I’ll take care of the moving,” she told him with a tired sigh.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

It was three in the morning when the LuthorCorp jet touched down. Lex loved to travel but it didn’t mean that it wasn’t exhausting. After his run in with Helen Bryce he never felt comfortable sleeping on a plane again. Not that it was something that he’d ever admit to anyone. The only thing that kept him putting one foot in front of the other was the fact that she was waiting for him. He knew from his people that she had picked up the key to the apartment promptly at six o’clock the night before but had very little to actually move.

The apartment its self was silent as he let himself in. It wasn’t as opulent as some of the other properties that he owned but he didn’t think that she’d appreciate it if it was. He just wanted her to feel comfortable but it was bigger then the breadbox that she had previously been living in. He headed for his bedroom pausing as he noted that the door of the one next to his was shut. He didn’t want to understand the strange sensations that coursed through his chest at the significance of what that closed door meant but for the first time in a long time it actually felt good to be in Metropolis.

Author’s Notes: I have a great big HUGE favor to ask you guys… Someone go over to the damn Family Channel and tell them to put FREAKING Smallville back on!!! How the hell is a fan fiction writer suppose to one, catch up with the series and two, get her inspiration on?!!! Sorry! I am backing away from my soapbox now! I am cool. I am controlled! Oh hell they suck! Where’s my coffee cup at least they can’t take that from me

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

It was the smell of coffee that woke him up. For a moment he lay still letting the silence of the apartment and the familiar feel of the bed relax his tired muscles. She was up and that thought drew him out of bed. Lex stepped into the bathroom and realized that the door that he’d left open the night before was shut. He bought this apartment when he was engaged to Helen. She claimed that she couldn’t sleep with another person in the bed with her, which was also her excuse for dragging her feet when the subject of her moving into that mansion came up. He was glad that no one knew of the remodeling venture that he had done so that he could feel closer to his wife, the woman that had tried to kill him.

He paused as he glanced at himself in the mirror. He noted that the door to Chloe’s room was closed but it was the site of her toothbrush that gave him pause. It sat so innocently next to his. He glanced around to noting the shampoo and loofa in the shower and her bottle of lotion left on the vanity. For a moment he had to force back his territorial instincts and had to breathe through the moment of panic. Suddenly he wasn’t sure if this was such a good idea.

*-*-*-*-*-*

He was constantly on her mind. Chloe wasn’t sure what happened the morning that Lex had come back from his business trip. He seemed tense the entire day. He helped her sort through the few things that she had brought with her and then left her to her own devices by locking himself in his study. Finally Chloe couldn’t take the silence that seemed to permeate the air. She knocked gently on his office door and was told brusquely to enter.

“Are you having second thoughts,” she asked him bluntly as she watched him rise from his desk to sit on the corner of it.

“No, of course not,” he told her with a slight frown. He ran a hand over his face as he rose to stand near her and touched her on the shoulder. “Hey, I’m still feeling the effects of jet lag,” he tried to reassure her. “I want you to be at home here.”

“Are you sure,” she asked hesitantly as she resisted the urge to lean against him for a moment.

“Yes, I’m sure,” he told her with a slight smile.

Suddenly she wasn’t sure why she needed him to hug her she just did. She wrapped her arms around his lean waist and gave his suddenly stiff body a small squeeze. After a moment she felt his arms come around her in an awkward embrace. She sighed in the comfort of his embrace.

“You need to be hugged more,” she told him as she gave him one last light squeeze and backed away. His lips twisted in a slight smirk.

“And why is that,” he asked as she moved away from him taking the scent of her light floral perfume with her. She glanced at his face to find his eyes guarded and realized that she could very well hurt his feelings by saying it was like hugging an ironing board.

“Okay, I lied,” she twisted her lips in a mocking smirk. “I need to be hugged more.”

“Are you still feeling,” he paused unsure how to ask about her emotional state but Chloe knew what he was trying to ask.

“Yeah, a little bit,” she sat on his sofa and drew her knees up to rest her chin on them as she watched him. “It’s crazy; I was five when she left. I barely remember her but,” she glanced away unable to take his steady gaze.

“It doesn’t ever get better, Chloe,” Lex says as he sits next to her and smoothed her hair back. Her eyes search his face seeing only his concern and remembered pain. “It just gets a little easier to deal with.”

“I guess so,” she tells him as she closes her eyes briefly against the swelling of tenderness that surprised her at its intensity. Shortly after that he was gone, headed back to Smallville and some sort of emergency that had arisen there.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

“You have to meet her, Lex,” one of his father’s business colleges leaned towards him as he touched the sleeve of his tux. “But you had better watch out she’d got a razor sharp tongue on her,” he laughed somewhat drunkenly.

“Really,” Lex asked as he gave the man a glare that would have frozen most people. “And why would I want to subject myself to this hellion?”

“She’s got a figure that just won’t quit. She’s over there,” he gestured towards a small group of men laughing. All that Lex could see was the back of some woman’s blonde head.

“She’s a blonde,” Lex stated uninterestedly as he drained his champagne glass.

“Come on Lex,” the man said again. “Expand your horizons.”

Lex was only listening with a half ear as he watched his father circulate towards the group of people. Lex frowned as he watched one by one the young woman’s admires disappear until his father was alone with the woman. He had maneuvered his body in such away that it looked like she was pinned against the rail behind her. His father shifted his stance and for a brief moment across the room he stared into the frantic eyes of Chloe Sullivan.

He kept his eyes locked on the pair as he hurriedly made his way across the crowded charity event. Lex was startled to feel such a sense of protective rage. The closer he got the angrier he became as he could hear that scattered one sided conversation that his father was having with Chloe.

“If you needed protection you should have come to me,” Lionel told her as he raised a hand to stroke across her collar bone with a light tickling sensation.

“Hello Dad,” he drawled out in his typical biting tones that he used with his father. “I hardly think that Ms. Sullivan needs protection.”

Lionel stepped slightly away from Chloe to glance at Lex as Lex stared at something behind his shoulder with profound amusement. Lionel heard a slight growl as he turned to look at Chloe and he found himself unable to focus on anything but the blinding pain of her fist connecting with his nose. He could feel the bone break as tears blinded him and he landed on his back heavily. He tried to blink away the sudden tears that sprang to his eyes and focus on Lex as he crouched down next to him.

“I could have warned you that she has a sharp tongue but it’s her right cross that you have to watch out for,” Lex told him with a smirk and tossed a linen handkerchief on his father’s chest.

Lex rose smoothly to his feet and pushed his way past the crowd of concerned on lookers. His eyes scanned the hall but he didn’t spot the blonde upswept hairdo. He headed for the front doors at a jog hoping that she would go right home. He was slightly startled to catch sight of her walking down the street without a coat to shelter her from the chilly night air.

It actually took him a few minutes longer to catch up to her then he thought it would. For someone with such short legs she covered a lot of ground when she moved.

“Chloe,” he gasped out as he grabbed her lightly by the elbow and then held up his hands in surrender as she swung around with a closed fist.

“Lex! Oh my god, are you trying to scare me to death,” she gasped out. Her face was pale except for the twin dots of either anger or cold; Lex was sure at this moment.

“Are you alright,” he asked as he final got his breath back.

“I’m fine,” she shivered slightly as the wind pressed the thin fabric of her dress against her body. “I’m sorry I caused a scene.” She glanced away and started walking slowly as he fell into step next to her. “But I am not sorry that I hit him,” she stated with a fiery look in her eyes. Lex shrugged out of his jacket and draped it across her shoulders.

“What were you doing there,” he asked as he slid his hands into his pocket and tried to shelter her from the wind with his body as much as possible.

“Filling in,” she shrugged. “The writer for the society page got sick and I was told to be there or else.”

“Why didn’t you move away when you saw him coming,” he asked as she slid an arm around him and shared her body’s warmth with him.

“I didn’t notice him until it was too late then he had me pinned against the railing,” she told him with a slight grimace. “He was stand on the hem of my dress.”

Lex glanced down at the woman at his side startled. “So you wouldn’t move because he was standing on your dress,” he asked as he pressed his lips together to hide his amusement.

“Hey it’s not funny,” she slapped him lightly in the stomach. “It’s not my dress.”

Chloe was startled by the sudden transformation in his face. Lex threw back his head and laughed. For a moment he was almost unrecognizable. His laughter made him look years younger and it was infectious. She couldn’t help the small giggle that escaped her.

“Well I’ll say this for my dad, I guess he’d do well that Karma has a wicked right cross,” Lex told her as he tightened his arm laughing.

I'm so sad that Chloe's mom died. But I'm very happy that she moved in with Lex and that she punched Lionel. I don't know which makes me happier. On the one hand you got Chloe standing up for herself and Lionel getting what he deserves but on the other hand you got Chlex and the potential for smut. Wait, I guess when you write it out like that it comes clearer that the moving in is better. I can sleep better knowing that that mystery is solved.

I'm pissed and ABC Family too. And they replaced it with back to back episodes of 7th Heaven. One episode of that boring crap a night is overdoing it. I'm going to have to go check up on that and get back to you. Never fear, I will conquer where all things of my Lex fix are concerned.

I would love to have seen that. I wonder if this only makes her more interesting to Lionel [ the fact that he knew she was staying with Lex makes me believe he is keeping tabs on her] or if he will get mad and will want to make her life hell. I hope she won't get in trouble at work for causing a scene. I totally love this fic, more please :)

Author’s Notes: Thanks to everyone one who has posted to the story! I really do appreciate all the new folks and the old! It makes my plot bunnies multiply! Anyway thanks again and if you happen to see a bunny… It’s probably mine… Little bastards keep getting out.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

He had no right to feel even remotely jealous none what’s so ever, especially since it had been a month since he had last laid eyes on her. For the first time since he had started calling her she wasn’t at home to pick up the phone. If she had been hurt then one of his people would have called him. So why the hell wasn’t she answering the phone? Was she mad at him because everything seemed to go to hell in a hand basket and he was suddenly traveling more?

It did give him an unidentifiable warm feeling to hear her voice on the answering machine. “Hi, we’re sorry to have missed your call but please leave a message and we’ll get back to you.” It should have bothered him that she would dare to touch his answering machine but instead he felt a strange sense of satisfaction. He was part of a ‘we’.

Every time he went to the apartment he found small things that she had changed. Like his once empty patio now boasted an abundance of plant life and a few lounge chairs. There were throw pillows on his couches and coasters on his coffee table. There were only two rooms that she didn’t venture into which surprised him due to her curious nature. One was his office which always remained shut and the other was his bedroom.

He didn’t like changes to his normally smooth routines because of that she left him resisting the urge to change anything about his smoothly run life. He felt like he was fighting a loosing battle. He enjoyed his mornings alone not getting caught up watching Saturday morning cartoons. He liked order to his day, not walking into the apartment and being dragged out to a Thai restaurant only to find it had closed and settling for Taco Bell. Not to mention the heart burn that came with it. He didn’t want to worry about accidentally knocking her birth control into the toilet and finding an all night pharmacist to replace them before she found out. He certainly did not want to think about that pink box of tampons sitting in his medicine chest next to his box of Trojans.

He didn’t want to think about the dejected slump of her shoulders when he packed his bag for the last trip. He tried not to notice the way that she trembled when she pressed her body against his when he was ready to walk out the door or the light kiss on his cheek as she took her warmth back. He didn’t want to count how many times he picked up his phone in the middle of the day when she was gone to listen to the answering machine.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

She carried with her an undefined ache. She had ached since the morning that he left. Every time he left he left behind a void. It was strange when she first noticed the void after the charity reception but tried to play it off as being at loose ends. He kept true to his word and only spent one or two nights every couple of weeks at the apartment. Slowly she noticed that they would each start making plans around his visits.

He took her to foreign restaurants and museums. She dragged him to the movies and introduced him to fast food. They argued over the remote and whose turn it was to get drinks. He always read the business section in the mornings while she pursued the more intellectual section of the paper like the comics. Occasionally he would drive her back to Smallville for weekend trips to visit her dad only to show up promptly at six o clock Sunday evenings to return her to Metropolis. Their lives had slowly mingled and became more then friends but not as intimate as being lovers.

With that exception of that evening in his mansion they never touched each other. She found herself lately waking up sweating and highly aroused. Especially if he had spent to night and taken a shower before she could. She fought back her arousal when he was around especially when they stayed in just to relax in the apartment. She bought throw pillows for the sofas with the thought that he would use them instead of pillowing his head on her thigh to watch TV with her. In the end she would gently rub the silky skin of his scalp and get drawn into the memories of the way the rest of him felt and tasted. She looked forward to the nights they stayed in.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

The evening would have been fun if she had the right company. Peter was nice and he was sweet. He was vaguely reminiscent of a certain farm boy that she had put out of her heart but he couldn’t keep up. He was lacking. He lacked the dry sarcastic wit that she was so fond of. He didn’t posses the smooth masculine confidence that made her shiver. His palms were slightly sweaty and his hair needed to be cut so that it didn’t fall into his eyes constantly. So she suffered through drinks, dinner and the smoky jazz club that made her eyes burn. In the end it was a relief to leave him at the club and take a cab home claiming a headache.

It didn’t take her long to reach the apartment and with a weary sigh she tossed her keys and handbag on the table near the door. Her most pressing thought was how quickly she could get out of her clothes and into a hot shower. She felt like she carried the stench of the bar with her.
The shower felt wonderful as her thoughts once again returned to Lex. She ran her hands down the body that he caressed. She could feel the void center in the pit of her stomach as she leaned against the cool shower wall. Her breasts were tingling from the pounding pulse of the shower as she raised her hands to cup them, her fingers pausing to pull lightly on her nipples as she let go of herself and began to day dream of Lex touching her. Her breath came in short pants as her excitement climbed. Her fingers trailed down to seek her throbbing wet center and lazily began to circle and dance around her clit her low deep throated moan echo hollowly in the confines of the shower.

Lex came home to find the apartment darkened. He paused out side of her bedroom door but only heard silence so he assumed that she asleep. Vaguely frustrated he headed for his own room determined to set aside his feelings of relief to be back. It wasn’t until he entered his bedroom did he realize that she was awake and in the shower. He only meant to call out to her but when he heard the moan his hand paused in the middle of knocking on the slightly opened door. He could see her vague outline through the frosted glass of the shower and he felt him self freeze transfixed by the sight before him.

Lex could feel himself harden at the sight of her obvious enjoyment. Her hand traced her own curves as she cupped one full breast as if to offer it to a lovers touch. She tugged at the pale pink tip of her distended nipple and she was slowly circling her clit with a sure touch only to occasionally thrust her fingers inside her tight depths. He suddenly fought to remember how to breathe as his body jerked and throbbed with each of her caresses. He remembered the hot wet silken heat of her body and the taste of her skin. His hands itched to replace her hands with his mouth or even better the pulsating hardness that now throbbed in his pants.

Chloe could feel her tension rising the pleasure sharpening and becoming more defined. She gasped as she moved her fingers faster inside her aching wetness her thumb danced and circled where she craved the most sensation. Everything inside her tightened and strained towards the white light of her release as she pumped her hips faster.

It exploded out of her and with a harsh cry she burst into a million pieces but it was his name that was torn from her throat as she came. It was him that she wanted to soothe the void that was still there. She sank weakly against the wall of the shower as she caught her breath and felt tears rise to the surface. She had to find away to rid herself of her obsession. Lex just didn’t see her in that manner.

Lex was stunned and very aroused by what he witnessed as he backed slowly away from the door. He knew he wasn’t the only one that was having fantasies about that night. He could feel the beads of sweat trickling between his shoulder blades and his entire body throbbed with his desire to bury himself inside her. He fought against the urge to wrap his hand around his own aching hardness knowing that while it would momentarily satisfy his body it wouldn’t satisfy him until he was inside of her and he was the one to make her scream his name.

I hope Lex realizes soon that the clock is ticking and that if he doesn't do something soon it maight be to late to get together with Chloe. He should stop being so afraid and stop runing.

He was pissed. He didn’t want to take Vivian Lawrence to this event. Hell, he didn’t want to go the event at all but if it wasn’t for the constant bullying of his father to take this woman he would have just spent an evening at home with Chloe. Now Vivian cancelled and he was stuck going to the event by himself and trapped because he was supposed to accept an award for LuthorCorp. He slammed the door to the apartment a little harder then he should have as he tried to regain a hold over his temper.

“Lex,” Chloe called as she came out of the den. She must have gotten home not to long ago because she was still dressed in the office clothes instead of the faded jeans that she preferred. “Hey.”

“Hi,” he said feeling slightly sheepish for getting caught throwing a temper tantrum. She quirked her lips at him and batted her eyelashes.

“Bad day at the office, honey,” she asked with a mocking sweetness as she reached out and gently took his over coat from him. He could feel his answering smile tease the edges of his lips at her antics.

“Yeah, you could say that,” he smirked openly at her as she hung his coat in the hallway closet.

“Oh, that’s too bad, dear,” she said as she wrapped her arms around his middle to hold him loosely as she stared up into his face. “I’d tell you that there was pot roast with baby carrots and mashed potatoes for dinner but hell you know I burn water,” she teased.

“Well, then it’s a good thing that I am taking you out tonight,” he said as he gave her a slight squeeze and moved past her before he dragged her against him and devoured her mouth.

“Oh goody,” Chloe said slightly breathlessly as she took a moment to regain her sense of balance. Only Lex had that ability to confuse and torment her at the same time.

“Do you have an evening gown,” Lex asked as he loosened his tie to pull it free of the collar and began to unbutton his shirt.

“Yeah, I do now,” she said as she watched him warily. “Why?”

“I have to accept an award from one of the local charities. It’s a bit short noticed but come with me,” he asked casually.

“Fine, but I have dibs on the bathroom first,” she said trying not to allow her feelings of excitement show on her face. This was the first time that she and Lex would be out in the public eye.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

It annoyed him slightly that she wouldn’t let him see her gown. She walked out of her bedroom already wearing her evening cloak that covered her from her neck to her ankles. He tried teasing her into giving him a peak in the limo during the short ride to the metropolis botanical gardens where the event was being held but that backfired somewhat in his face.

Chloe trapped his hands lightly against the seat of the limo after teasingly slapping them away from the part in her cloak. She pressed her upper body against him and his senses were flooded with the sweet smell of her perfume. Her nose brushed his whether by accident or on purpose he wasn’t sure but her eyes were dark with something that he couldn’t define.

“You’re going to have to wait,” her eyes floated to his before she glanced at his mouth as she touched the tip of her tongue to her bottom lips. The sudden opening of the door caused her to fall back against her own seat as Lex struggled to get his body back under control before stepping out of the car. He had a feeling that it was going to be a very long night.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Lex felt like he’d been punched in the gut when he took in her dress or lack of dress. He fought the urge to throw her cloak back over it and whisk her away from all of the men who suddenly seemed to be hovering around the coat room. It was floor length and shimmered with sequins. He noticed that her décolleté was very low and showed a startling amount of abundant cleavage. It was when she turned to hand the cloak over that caused him to suck in his breath. It appeared that it was backless to her hips and only held together at the sides by strategically placed straps.

Chloe was floating on cloud nine. The dress was magnificent and incredibly sexy. Probably not something that should have been worn to a function like this but she wasn’t sure if she’d ever have the guts to wear it if she was with any other man. The only jewelry that she chose to wear was a pair of sapphire earrings that her mom had left her.

“Well,” she reached out her arms and pirouetted prettily in front of him. Lex noticed an older man stopping to stare at her and suddenly he felt possessive wave of jealously wash over him.

“Its fine,” he said through gritted teeth ignoring her gasp as he took her by the elbow to lead her into the main part of the ballroom.

She was stunned and confused. He first looked at her with such a heated gaze that she was sure that she had made a good choice but when his eyes became angry and shuttered she wasn’t sure what she did wrong.

“Let go,” she snarled at him softly under her breath as she jerked her arm free.

“What the hell is the matter with you,” he asked under his breath as he paused to stare at her. He knew that he had hurt her but wasn’t sure what to do about it.

“You, Mr. Luthor are a complete ass,” she said through gritted teeth as she moved off towards the ladies bathroom.

“Chloe,’ Lex reached out a hand towards her shoulder touching the silken skin. “Damn it, Chloe, you’re gorgeous,” he told her as she spun to face him with her arms crossed over her chest in a defensive posture. “I just,” his voice trailed off as he glanced at a spot over her head. “I’m sorry.”

He tried not to think about the sight of her with her arms crossed and how it caused her breast to rise dangerously close to spilling out over the top. He wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to continue a conversation with her or stare at her breasts hoping she’d take a deep breath.

“I just suddenly don’t want to share you with them,” he cocked his head towards the doorway where all of the beautiful people were mingling.

“Okay,” Chloe said. She had watched his every movement with a carefully guarded expression. “I’ll leave,” she started to move past him but stopped her he took her arm. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”

“You have never embarrassed me,” he told her as he dragged her stiff form against his body.

“Lex,” she leaned even more into him as raised her head as if to kiss him, until they were both blinded by the sudden flash of camera’s going off. Evidently it was time for the media to arrive and they were the first pictures of the night.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

The evening passed in somewhat of a blur for Chloe. Lex was charming and attentive, occasionally leaning over to share some vivacious piece of gossip that he made her swear that she’d never repeat. Most of all he made her laugh with his dry wit and keen observations. She was proud of him as she watched him graciously accept the award on behalf of LuthorCorp and make his elegant speech.

“So what do you do for a living, Ms. Sullivan,” one of Lex’s associates asked.

“I’m a reporter for the Daily Planet,” Chloe answered with a smile. She watched as the man gave a startled glance in Lex’s direction. Chloe hid her smile behind a sip of champagne. It was typical of most of the reactions that she had gotten all evening.

“And a very devoted one,” Lionel Luthor’s voice came from behind her. Chloe could feel her spin tighten.

“Mr. Luthor,” she said as she turned to rake him with a frosty gaze. “Are you here to serve me with a restraining order,” she asked with a deceptive calm.

“Truce,” Lionel said as he threw up his hands in mock surrender and a laugh. “You had better watch out for this one Charlie, she has a wicked right cross.” Lionel said with a grin but Chloe also noticed that he was careful to keep out of arms reach of her. The smaller paunchy man widened his eyes at her.

“Really,” he said as if sensing more to the story then they were both willing to say. “Yes, well I think that my wife is need of rescuing,” He said as he moved off. Chloe’s stomach twisted in a tight knot as she was left alone with Lionel Luthor.

“I have to admit, you certainly look lovely this evening,” Lionel said as he casually whisked two champagne glasses off the tray that one of the waiters was carrying.

“I thought you weren’t coming,” Chloe said with a wary tone as she took the champagne glass that he forced into her hand.

“I wasn’t planning on it but when I found out that Lex was bringing his,” Lionel allowed his voice to trail of with a sly innuendo.

“Tenant,” Chloe finished for him as she sipped her champagne. Lionel let loose with a hearty laugh that caused a few people to glance at them.

“A tenant pays rent, Ms. Sullivan,” Lionel said smugly as he raised his own glass to take a sip and seemed to note Chloe’s frozen expression. “He didn’t tell you that he’s never cashed a single check from you, did he. Well, I’m sure it’s nothing must have slipped his mind,” Lionel said as he began to move off. “Oh, unless of course he’s getting another form of payment,” Lionel glanced at her with satisfaction as she watched her face drain of color. “Enjoy the rest of your evening Ms. Sullivan.”

Chloe suddenly felt trapped as her gaze anxiously circled the large room looking for the top of Lex’s bald head. She in no way shape or form was going to let Lionel Luthor get to her at least that’s what she tried to tell herself. Until this evening Lex had acted like she was a little sister or nothing more then friends but she’d read something in his eyes when they had embarrassed. She wasn’t sure what it was that he saw when he looked at her. She was torn between anger and disgust as she made her way to the restroom.

With dinner having just finished it seemed like half the women in the banquet hall had the same thought as Chloe forced her way past two of the women standing in line. She sat on the toilet trying to catch her breath. Don’t break down, she told herself. Lionel is blowing smoke out of his ass but how would he know that she paid with a check unless he’s seen them.

“Can you believe who he brought to this,” Chloe heard some woman say.

“Vivian would die laughing to know he scrambled around and brought some trashy blonde,” Chloe gasped as she listened to the two women talking as they used the facilities.

“I heard that Lex had a mistress in the city but I never expected her to be a scrawny little blonde. I guess that’s what happens when you’re left dateless for this kind of thing.”

“Did Vivian ever say why she left Lex Luthor hanging?”

“She only mentioned something about a diamond pair of earrings.”

“I think that Jen said that he occasionally goes slumming,” Chloe stayed where she was as the voices drifted away. She felt stunned as she made her way for the door. Whatever she thought was happening was obviously a farce. Maybe it was in her karma to come in second place.

Poor Chloe, half of Metropolis thinks she is Lexes mistress, and after their photo is published by whoever took it, the other half won't stay behaind to long. It's probably because I had a bad day but I don't see how she could het out of this situation with her opinion intact. Stupid Lex why didn't he tell Chloe that he needed her help because he didn't want to go dateless and his date canceled at the last minute? And I see Lionels method of pay back for the punch is emotional scarring? I hope next time instead of punching him Chloe will choose to kick him a bit lower. More, please.

Aww, I feel so bad for Chloe, I really wanted her to tell those women off but it probably wouldn't do any good. I hope Lex can make her feel better after they had a long talk and got everything out in the open. And after she kicks his ass for the rent thing. I loved that you can write Lionel completely different for different stories. I love Lionel when he's good, but at times I like him better when his bad and people take him down a notch. Take him down Lex & Chloe!

Lex wasn’t stupid he knew at the moment of the first flash bulbs that papers were going to be rushing to cover his supposedly intimate embrace with the mysterious woman. He was confident that he could stifle the other paper using his contacts but Perry White was his target. This is why he had abandoned Chloe to sequester himself in a corner with her editor.

“Don’t print those pictures, White,” Lex told him bluntly in his typical cool tones.

“Are you trying to stifle the press Luthor,” White’s eyes gleamed manically with thoughts of his front page spread.

“Me,” Lex raised his eyebrows to climb into where his supposed hairline would be. “Of course not, that’s just ridicules,” he said smoothly as he sipped his champagne. “But of course that would force me to call a press conference at LuthorCorp building and you know how tight security is there or maybe the mansion would be better. I don’t know either way, I’d make sure that you weren’t invited,” Lex smiled at the man as he nodded his head at some of his business associates.

“And exactly what would you say at this press conference, Mr. Luthor,” White could feel the sweat starting to dapple his forehead.

“I would of course tell them the truth,” Lex said as he smiled but White noticed that his smile didn’t reach his cold eyes. “I’d tell the press that you shamelessly threw a budding reporter to the wolves, ruining a potentially bright career,” Lex told him as he finished his glass.

“I just wonder,” he said as he started to move away. “How many of your reporters would remain loyal or how you journalistic integrity would survive that especially with your past,” White’s face had turned a sickly shade of white before changing to a pallid green color. “You might want to go home. You don’t look so good,” Lex smirked as he walked away.

Lex scanned the reception area for the top of that familiar blonde but didn’t spot her.

*-*-*-*-*-*

Chloe felt an arm come around her waist as she tried to make her way to the door and head home.

“There you are,” Lex whispered lightly in her ear. She could feel the shiver run down her back but her enjoyment of her evening was gone. The fairy tale was at an end.

“I’m ready to go Lex,” She said quietly as she moved past him.
Her face was set with a strained expression and she looked a little pale around the edges. Lex was silent as he ran through the scenarios in his mind, contemplating her causes of upset and trying to decide the best course of action. He was coming up blank on all fronts. The only thing that he was certain of was she must have caught wind of the innuendos that he had over heard himself a time or two but was helpless to stop. She said nothing as they rode home in silence and she was quiet on the ride up to the apartment.

“Good night, Lex,” she said softly as she moved down the hallway to her room.

“Chloe,” he called to her before she could retreat to the sanctuary of her bedroom.

“Yes, Lex,” she paused in the hallway without turning around.

“I really am sorry about tonight, Chloe,” Lex told her.

“You have already apologized about the dress,” she replied tersely.

“I’m sorry about the rest of it too. I never meant to put you in such a difficult situation,” he told her as he came to stand a few inched behind her stiff form.

“Are you sorry that you took your ‘mistress’ to the event, that you got stood up on purpose and you scrambled around to find a replacement, or that your father thinks that you are getting your rent payment in flesh since my money isn’t good enough,” she asked as she entered her room and shut the door in Lex’s stunned face.

“Chloe,” he called to her threw the closed door. “We need to talk about this.”

“We will Lex but not tonight,” she called back. “Not tonight.”

*-*-*-*-*-*

Lex woke up to the familiar smells of coffee brewing. He gave a sigh of relief as he fell back against his pillows before jack knifing up in bed to throw some clothes on. The apartment was quiet except for the ticking of the Cat clock Chloe hung in the kitchen. He poured himself a cup of coffee and wandered into the den. He noticed that the door to the patio was open letting in the chilly morning air. That’s where he found her. She was wrapped in a blanket cradling a steaming mug of coffee.

“Good morning,” she said cheerfully as she took a deep breath of the cool air. Lex raised his eyebrows as he stared at her in amazement.

“Morning,” he muttered some what guardedly as he took a seat in the patio chair near hers.

“You missed a beautiful sunrise,” she told him as she gestured to the view just past the balcony. He didn’t like it, not one bit. She behaved as if she were actually in a good mood this morning.

“Did you sleep well,’ he asked feeling distinctly uncomfortable.

“I haven’t been to bed yet,” she told him with a sparkle in her eye.

“Really,” he sat back feeling once again off balanced.

“Damn I need a refill,” she told him as she dropped her blanket and strolled into the house. The corner of his lips twisted in a slight smirk as he took in her flannel Bambi pajamas and he followed her into the warm apartment.

“I’m ready to talk about last night,” she called over her shoulder as she made a beeline for the coffee maker.

“Okay,” Lex said as he dragged out one of the barstools at the counter.

“Refill,” she asked as she held up the pot.

“Not yet thanks,” he ran a hand over his face still wondering what was going on with her and why she wasn’t ranting and raving. She moved around the kitchen at home in her environment as she fixed her coffee before taking a seat next to him.

“What happened,” he asked bluntly.

“I went to bed had myself a good cry and then started thinking,” Chloe told him. She bumped his shoulder in her familiar manner and he felt slightly reassured but still puzzled.

“First off your father is an asshole,” she stated calmly as she sipped her coffee. “He took his best shot but frankly he should have known better. In all of the years that I have known the fuck weasel, he’s always like to mix parts of the truth with a sprinkle of lies and I have to admit he almost got me,” she glanced at him. “He made some comments about me not being a tenant because you weren’t cashing my monthly checks and frankly insulted the both of us by alluding to I was giving you a piece of ass in trade,” she told him bluntly.

“He was there last night,” Lex looked too shocked for it not to be genuine and that was the sign that Chloe was looking for. That brief second when his guard came down and she could read the tumble of emotions that he normally kept so guarded at times even from her.

“Yep and when I realized that some of the other pieces of the puzzle fell into place,” she said as she sipped her coffee again.

“Are you pissed about the checks,” he asked hesitantly.

“No, not really, well maybe a little, more hurt then anything,” she told him. “But then I realized that I kept to my end of the bargain and paid my bills so on and so forth. If you choose not to cash the checks that I gave you am I suppose to hold a gun to your head and force you?”

She finished her cup and yawned tiredly. “As for the woman that stood you up,” she tossed a paper in his general direction. “Never piss off a woman with the power of the pen,” she grinned cheeky at him. “What I AM hurt about Lex is that you didn’t tell me what happened and you didn’t ask me for help,” she stifled another yawn as she made her way to her bedroom. “I’d follow you anywhere, Lex, if you’d just ask.” Lex glanced down at the headlines of the morning paper and began laughing.

I'm sure Lex also has a thing or ten he would like to do to his father, and the "nice" lady that stood him up. *-*-*-*-*-*-*

She was going to be the fucking death of him, he was sure of it. She was four hours late it was pouring rain and she hasn’t bothered to call home. Lex paced in front of the fireplace staring at the dinner that he cooked that was now cold and rather disgusting looking. He was ready to explode when he heard her key hit the lock of the apartment.

He charged out of the den and stopped as he stared at her in shock. She was a sodden mess standing in the foyer. Her face was bone white, with her hail plastered against her head and her makeup smeared and running down her face.

“What the hell happened to you,” he exclaimed as he as he started to reach for her and caught the rather unpleasant smell of something decidedly odious coming from her.

Chloe had never felt more miserable or cold in her life. She shook with cold until her bones ached with the effort that it took to get herself home. It took Chloe three tries to get her jaw to unlock enough to talk to him.

“Sssorrry, I’m late,” she said through chattering slightly blue lips.

She couldn’t seem to get her fingers to work properly as she struggled with the buttons of her coat. The look on Lex’s face said it all when he came out from the den. He was pissed. Her stomach clenched tight. She really hated it when he got mad at her. He impatiently pushed her hands away and unbuttoned her coat for her. He tried not to stare at her hardened nipples as she dropped the dripping jacket on the tile floor at their feet.

When Lex was sure that she could get the sodden mass off her shoulders he headed for the bathroom to grab a couple of towels from the bathroom and flip the shower on. He was alarmed by that pallid color of her face and the slightly blue tinge that her finger tips were. He tightened his lips as he helped her out of the rest of the wet clothes that she was wearing impatiently pushing aside her hands when they got in the way. He finally was able to lead her down the hallway and into the shower. He gathered up the sodden smelly mess from the floor and dumped them in by the laundry room before returning to the bathroom to check on her.

He found her sitting on the little shower seat letting the hot jets run hot water down her body. He noted the various cuts and bruised with tight lips He stripped of his own now foul clothes and stepped into the shower with her.
“Chloe honey, do you need some help,” he asked as he leaned over her noting the deep body tremors that she seemed to be suffering through.
“Please don’t be mad at me,” she begged tiredly as she renewed her struggle to get the top off the shampoo bottle.

Lex could feel his lips tighten briefly before forcing himself to relax. He scrubbed her twice from head to toe, washing away the smells that she had come home with until she was clean to his satisfaction.

He just threw a towel around his own waist to help her out of the shower. His hands were rough when the toweled dried her remembering to be careful of when she winced in pain. He sat her on the toilet forcing a couple of pain killers into her hands and to blow dry her hair.

When she was finally dried to his satisfaction he led her into her bedroom. He slipped her between the sheets noting that her full body tremors finally eased into the occasional tremors.

“Are you feeling better,” he asked as he hesitated at the side of the bed. He was uncomfortable. Her face was scrubbed clean and wholesome. There was something that stirred in his chest that he hadn’t felt in a long while. It was the desire to take care of someone else.

“I still feel cold but not so bad,” she told him as she curled herself into a ball trying to control her shivers.

“Slide over,” he told her gruffly as he dropped the towel he’d been wearing.
He climbed into her bed and dragged her blankets over the both of them. He dragged her cool body against his heated warmth. Chloe sighed with pleasure as she rubbed her cheek against his shoulder soaking up his heat.

“Feeling better,” Lex asked as he took one of her cool hands and pressed it against the warmth of his belly.

“Yeah,” she told him with a sigh of contentment. She was safe and she was home.

“What happened,” Lex asked as he gently rubbed her lower back as he dragged her body to lay across him.

“What usually happens,” she told him with a shrug. “I was chasing a lead down by the warehouse district. Got caught, chased a little, and then boom! The warehouse got blown up and I was tossed into the river.”

Lex could feel his blood chill in his veins that she could be so casual about being so close to dying. His arm tightened around her reflexively as he struggled with the urge to shout at her. He wanted to shake some sense into her. He wanted to strangle the guards that he assigned her. He wanted to find the bastards that almost took his world. In the end he pressed his lips to her temple and shifted to wrap both of his arms around her. He shoved away the pain of what losing her would bring.

“Lex, I can’t breathe here,” she said as she wriggled against him until he loosened his grip. “Its okay baby,” she soothed as she ran her hands down his chest where her head was pillowed. “I’ll always make it home.”

“One of these days you might not,” he said hating the way that he sounded desperate and needy.

“Lex, you’re part of my karma, how could I not come home to you,” she asked jokingly as she pressed a kiss to his shoulder.

She shifted slightly to look up into his face. She was shocked to see him struggling with an undefined emotion. Tenderness welded up in her chest as she realized how badly she had scared him. He glanced at her with strangely glittering eyes as warmth bloomed in her chest.

“There wouldn’t have been enough rocks in the world to hide under if those bastards had hurt you. I would have found every last one of them,’ Lex told her in a dangerous voice that he usually reserved for dealing with his father.

Chloe only had meant for the kiss that she pressed against his lips to be one of comfort and reassurance but when he cradled her head burying his fingers in her hair the simple kiss gave way to something much more. He stroked his mouth against hers in a leisurely pattern until he lightly nipped her bottom lip causing her to gasp against his mouth. He took immediate advantage and plundered her mouth with wet sure strokes.

Lex couldn’t get enough of her mouth. Her lips were so soft and warm against his. His senses were quickly overwhelmed by the scent and taste of her. She writhed beneath him as if someone had put a live wire under her skin. He broke the kiss afraid that he had hurt her.

“Chloe,’ he asked hoarsely as he feathered his lips to her ear to take the tender flesh in his teeth and tug lightly.

“God Lex, touch me,” Chloe gasped at the pain and the pleasure that he was bringing her.

He cupped her full breasts his hand and used his palm to tease and rub against her tight nipple. He breathed in her skin as he explored her, his hands glided over her skin causing her to shiver slightly.
“Still cold,” he asked against the soft flesh of her belly. He dipped his head to tease to corner of it.

“Oh no, definitely getting warm,” she gasped as she felt his finger tips brush the tight curls at the apex of her thighs.

He nibbled and nipped at her skin as he slid lower. He nuzzled first one thigh then the other as he blew lightly across her arousal.

“We’ll have to see about making you hot,” he whispered as he touched her aching heat with a light flutter of his tongue.

He lazily circled her clit with light touches, focusing her attentions on the sensations that he was building using his fingers and mouth. He couldn’t believe how hot and tight she was as he slid a finger inside her hot depths to curl slightly and rub against her liquid center. Her muscles trembled and pulsated as he felt her excitement climb.

Chloe felt her world narrow to the sensations that she felt building in her core with every thrust of his finger she felt her self climbing. Lights exploded behind her eyes as she burst into mini vibrations only to be pulled together again by the teasing circle of his tongue until she could only strain against the white light of her release. When it burst over her when he pressed his tongue hard against her clit, she screamed his name as everything burst with liquid heat inside of her.

He guided his aching hardness into her trembling depths as she pulsated around him. Lex could feel her milking him as her hips bucked against his and her nails bit into his back. He used short hard strokes to keep the pressure against her clit as he drover her back up the pinnacle. She was panting hotly in his ear as she trembled and jerking her hips in a rough pattern. He couldn’t keep his own groan of pleasure back as he drove himself harder into her silken depths.

“Oh god, Lex,” she gasped as her back arched against the bed and she unexpectedly clenched hard against him.

He felt like someone had wrapped and wet silk vice around his hardness as he lost control with a strangled cry. His body trembled and jerked as he struggled to remember how to breathe through the mind numbing pleasure. Lex could feel Chloe going through the same thing as she lay panting against his shoulder. He was tired of fighting against it. This woman was his karma, now he just needed her to realize it.

:drool2: Protective Lex is just so hot. I'm glad that they have eachother to take comfort form, and it was good to hear that Chloe has some bodyguards looking out for her [ although I wouldn't want to be in their skin when they will have to give their raport to Lex about what Chloe did last night]. So, does this mean that Lex wants them to be together as a couple and will be trying to show Chloe how good it can be or is it just another step in their dance of denial?

I'm so happy that Chloe got the last word with those snobby bitches. And I love it when Lex is all worried and protective (but honestly when don't I love Lex?). Now all we need is for Lex to convince Chloe that he's in this relationship for the long haul, shouldn't be too hard right? Write more but remind your muse that Sunrise Kisses needs some attention too or else her Karma won't be too good (*hangs head in shame at bad pun*).

She was miserable. It was the only way to describe it. Every muscle in her body ached, she couldn’t breathe through her nose and she felt like her head was going to explode, and what was worst Lex left early in the morning the day before for another business trip. Her lips curved in a small smile as she gathered her books up and headed home.

She had called in sick at the Planet and Lex took a personal day the next morning. They didn’t emerge from her bedroom the entire day except to eat. Even then they almost burnt the apartment down. It started off as teasing touches and the next thing that she knew she was on the kitchen counter and the kitchen was full of smoke with the smoke alarm going off. When it was all said and done they ended up paying double for Chinese food to be delivered from down the street.

Chloe made it through the door just in time to hear the phone screaming at her.

“Hello,” she said in a breathless voice.

“Hi,” there was a brief silence while Chloe struggled not to let the sneeze that she was holding back out.

“Ah, Ah,’ she gurgled then it exploded from her. “Oh shit, Lex. Sorry about that.”

“Well, that wasn’t what I was expecting,” he laughed warmly in her ear.

“Oh, you’re funny,” she sniffled as she dug into her pocket for a Kleenex. “I gought a old,” she muttered at him as she wiped her nose. “It’s probably a good thing that you’re out of town this week,” she laughed weakly as she headed for her room to change into something comfortable.

“Because you have a cold,” he asked pleasantly.

“Because I look like crap, Lex,” she said. “I’d probably scare you right out of your loafers. Besides I am cranky and grouchy when I’m sick.”

“I’m not scared of you,” he laughed again.

“Yuck it up Chuckles,” she sounded muffled as she spoke.

“What in the world are you doing,” he asked bemused.

“Getting naked,” she told him as she dropped an octave in her voice.

“Really,” Lex said. He suddenly sounded very attentive.

“Damn, I hate under wire bras,” she told him with a slight smile in her voice. “I mean I love how they lift me up and give me such support especially when I am wearing something low cut,” Chloe said intimately.

“I see,” Lex said quietly.

“I think that you would have liked this one,” she told him as she gave a slight moan while she rubbed the areas under her breasts and then picked up the grey cashmere sweater he wore before he left on his trip and slipped on over her head taking a deep breath as she inhaled his scent. “It’s cherry red.”

“You are not a nice woman,” he told her with a grumpy tone in his voice.

“Really and why is that,” she asked as she pulled her pants off. “There,” she commented. “That is so much better.”

“Are you finally in your pajamas,” he asked quietly.

“Nope, just in your sweater and a pair of panties,” she told him with a grin as she listened to him give a slight groan.

“Play nice,” he growled out.

“Or what are you going to do about it,” she teased as she headed for the kitchen. “Besides you’re the one that ran off to Rome.”

“Would you have come with me,” he asked.

“And take a chance in one of your jets, thanks I’d rather fly commercial,” she told him with a teasing laugh. “At least I know what to expect with them.”

“Would you have,” he asked again.

“Would I have what,” she asked as she dug out the makings for a sandwich.

“Come to Italy with me,” he asked quietly. Chloe suddenly sensed an important question behind what he was asking but she couldn’t put her finger on it.

“It depends on why you want me to come to Italy,” she told him as she played with the edge of bread sitting forgotten on the counter in front of her. “Trips abroad is not what the other day was about, Lex.”

“Then what was it about,” he fired back immediately.

“It was me being selfish,” she told him with a sigh. “I wanted that all of that,” she gestured helplessly.

“As I recall you weren’t the only one that took a personal day,” he reminded her.

“I know,” she said quietly. “Once upon a time I thought that I knew what I wanted. Out of life out of my relationships but now it’s all confused.”
“Confused how,” Lex asked.

“There are a lot of things going on. I don’t know if staying with the Daily Planet is what I want to do any more,” she told him.

“Why is that,” he asked again always pressing for an answer.

“Clark Kent got hired on there. He’s taken my old position now that I have been moved up. I found out about it today,’ she told him as she listened to the heavy silence.

“I see.” There was silence on the line and Chloe thought that maybe they had been disconnected.

“Lex, are you still there,” she asked anxiously after a few moments of silence.

“Yeah I’m still here,” he told her in a tight voice. “I have to admit to being rather disappointed though.” Chloe frown as she moved into the den and curled up on the couch.

“Why is that,” she asked.

“Because I can’t believe you are going to let HIM run you out of a job that you love,” Lex burst out.

“I am not letting him run me out of anything,” Chloe said as she sat up with a scowl on her face.

“Yes, you are,” Lex plunged forward. “You did it when you caught him kissing Lana in the loft and like a coward you tucked tail and ran.”
Chloe’s immediate reaction was anger and denial but the more that she started to turn it over in her mind she realized that he was right.

“Score one for team Luthor,” she muttered.

“What else is there,” Lex asked.

“Excuse me,” she asked. “Well then there’s you.”

“Okay, what about me,” he asked.

“Does this make your father right, not about the money,” she quickly clarified. “Am I now the ‘Mistress’.”

He first snorted and the laughed richly in her ear. Chloe felt the tight band around her chest loosen at the sounds of his obvious amusement even if it was at her expense.

“Any time you’re done,” she said with a mocking tone.

“Sorry,” he gasped. “You, my dear aren’t even close to being mistress material.”

Chloe could feel herself gasp in shock at the sudden flash of hurt that quickly spread through her.

“First, off you don’t have a gold digging bone in your body,” he told her with a laugh. “Secondly, you aren’t manipulative enough to be a mistress,” he assured her. “I can tell you what you are,” he told her as his laughter died. “You’re smart, stubborn, and too plucky to ever need a man to take care of her. Anyone who would even remotely claim to know you would know that about you. Trust me on this one you aren’t even mistress material.”

Chloe could only shake her head at her phone as his words warmed a place in her heart.

“Thanks, Lex. I needed that,” she told him.

“Any time you need a swift kick in the ass just call me,” Chloe smiled slightly as she heard the smile in his voice.

Chloe settled back for a moment after getting off the phone with Lex and headed for the kitchen to clean up. He was the only person that she could think of that knew how to push her buttons and sooth her temper with just a few choice words. She tossed the sponge in the sink as she heard the sound of the doorbell ring. She wasn’t expecting anyone to be standing in her doorway much less Clark Kent.

Another great update today Yasmine. I love the banter between Lex & Chloe, I was gonna say that she should hop a flight to Italy when you had dumb ol'Clunk show up @ her doorstep. I know he's gonna try & stir things up here. But, Chloe should take Lex's advice & not run away. I think she should kick him in the balls again. If Lana didn't run off with them that is. Great chapter!

First, I love the recap of their day prior to Lex's trip. I can easily see Lex and Chloe being too busy 'getting busy' that they burnt dinner. Second, I love the all the teasing. I love couples or should be couples who can tease each other. Third, why the hell didn't she go to Italy with Lex? But I like that he sincerely wanted her to go with him. Fourth, I liked the way Lex complimented her even in an unconventional sort of way -- it's perfect for them. And finally, I'm kind of hoping Clark will get the wrong idea about Lex and Chloe's relationship so that Chloe can yell at him. I just hope he doesn't push her away from Lex or else he's getting a special Kryptonite-filled, Chocolate Easter Bunny.

Chloe could only stare at Clark feeling slightly off guard. He looked slightly uncomfortable as he stood there. His gaze flitted lightly from the top of her tousled hair to the man’s sweater that she was wearing and finally down her bare legs.

“What do you want,” she asked him as she tried to keep the hostility out of her voice but she sensed that she failed when he winced slightly.

“May I come in,” he asked as he slid his hands into his pockets.

Chloe hesitated for a second before opening the door wider to allow him in. Clark brushed lightly against her as he drank in the scent of her perfume. His quick gaze took in the marble foyer and the crystal chandelier as he paused to wait for her to shut the door.

“This is nice,” he told her as he followed her into the den.

“What do you want, Clark,” she asked him without preamble. “There are no brick walls to slam me into.”

She told him as she gestured to the open space of the den. Clark physically winced at her reference of that day. Not one of his shinning best. He was surprised to see exactly how big this apartment was compared to his own cramped living space. He took in the expensive art on the walls and the elegance of the furnishings.

“Did you come into some sort of inheritance,” he asked curiously glancing at the expensive entertainment center.

“No comment,” Chloe told him as she scowled at him.

“I got hired on at the Daily Planet,” he told her as he took a step closer to her.

“Yeah, I heard,” she told him as she crossed her arms over her chest realizing that she wasn’t wearing a bra. “How did you find me?”

“I followed you home after class,” Clark told her. “I just wanted to assure you that I wanted a professional working relationship.”

“Bullshit, Clark,” she told him in a biting tone as she grabbed one of the blue bottles of water from the wet bar. “Why are you here?”

“I told you,” Clark began before she cut him off.

“You could have told me that crap on Monday when you started,” Chloe cocked her head at him slightly. “I think that you’re here to test the waters, Kent.”

“Why do you say that,” he glanced away slightly uneasily as he shifted away from her.

“You knew, that I’d find out about it so you figured that you’d stop by with this pre-edited speech about a professional working environment,” she laughed as she shook her head.

“I can’t believe that you’d be living with someone and didn’t tell me about it,” he growled out as he finally lost his temper in the face of her mockery.

“Oh that’s rich, when you didn’t even have the balls to tell me about you and Lana,” Chloe snapped as she twisted her cap off her bottle water. “Did you think that I’d still be sitting around feeling sorry for myself and mooning after you,” she asked in a nasty tone.

Clark glanced away from her and ran a hand through his thick hair and gritted his teeth.

“I thought that we could go back to being friends,” he said in a frustrated voice. He glanced at Chloe to find her shaking her head sadly at him.

“I can’t do that Clark,” she told him as she crossed to stand in front of her to touch her on the shoulder.

“Why not Chloe,” he asked softly. “We used to be good friends.”

“Clark we’ll never be friends because friendships aren’t one sided,” Chloe told him as she moved away from him. “You can’t be friends with someone that you are mistrustful of, hiding from or using. That’s why your relationship with Lex fell apart.”

“I’m glad that you finally see how he used me,” Clark told her in a slightly self righteous tone.

“I was actually talking about how you used him,” Chloe told him as she took a seat in one of the chairs.

“How could you even remotely say that,” Clark gasped at her.

“How many times did you flat out lie to him,” Chloe asked as her anger rose again to beat strongly in her chest.

“Or lie to me for that matter. You never trusted him and you let your father’s mistrust of the Luthor’s shade your whole relationship with him. You never came clean and trusted him to keep your secret. You did it with me but we both know that you had no choice because I knew about it a long time before you even bothered about telling me,” Chloe rose to pace as she tried to calm her self.

“He would have used me, Chloe,” Clark snapped.

“And who went running to who whenever they needed money,” Chloe asked in a biting tone. “All noble causes,” she sneered at him. “And what did Lex ever ask you for Clark,” Chloe finally broke down and yelled. “The truth and your friendship, Clark that is all he ever wanted the truth from you, from Lana, and yes from me! So who really used who, Clark?”

Chloe felt her anger drain away as she felt slightly sick to her stomach. She was so angry that she was somewhat surprised to find the tears freely flowing down her cheeks. She raised her hand to wipe her cheeks and fumbled with a Kleenex to wipe her nose.

“Chloe, I didn’t mean to upset you,” Clark said as he touched her shoulder only to have her flinch away from him.

“Well, it looks a little late for that,” Chloe heard Lex’s dry aloof tones come from the kitchen doorway.

“Lex,” Chloe gasped out as she turned towards him with a wide eyed stare.
“Clark, I think that you know the way out,” Lex told him to cross casually to pour himself a Scotch from the wet bar. Chloe couldn’t read him. He had his entire defense up and she couldn’t read his eyes. She felt the icy finger of uneasiness dance down her back.

“Lex, you’re back early,” Chloe struggled to speak in normal tones as she sneezed and blew her nose.

“I stopped off at the store and bought you some orange juice and cold medicine,” Lex told her as he casually stepped around Clark and kissed her cheek.

Clark moved away and watched as Lex smoothed her hair before he tucked it behind one ear. He suddenly realized that she was wearing Lex’s sweater and that’s why it looked so familiar. His gaze swept the den again and he noticed little touched that told him that Lex wasn’t here for a friendly visit to see a sick friend

“This is Lex’s apartment,” he gasped out in realization.

“No Kent,” Lex bit out angrily. “This is Chloe’s home and right now I think that you’ve over stayed your welcome.”

Chloe could see Clark silently condemning her but she lifted her chin and stared at him with hard eyes as she leaned in the familiar warmth of Lex’s body. Clark stared at her for a moment before striding towards the door.
“I know that I have made my mistakes but I can believe that you went running to him,” Clark told her as he left the apartment.

The silence felt thick as Lex distanced himself from her to stand at the window and stare out at the city.

“When did you get back,” Chloe asked wearily as she sat on the couch.
“A few hours ago,” Lex said to her.

He knew that he shouldn’t have been surprised at her vehement defense of him but he hadn’t thought about that lifetime in Smallville for so long that it surprised him to see how much she had thought about it.

“And how long have you been home,” she asked when he said nothing else.

“Long enough to witness the explosion,” Lex told her coolly. “What’s the secret, Chloe?”

“Please don’t,” Chloe begged. “Please don’t ask me.”

“Why not,” Lex asked as he swallowed down his resentment. “After your argument in my defense don’t you think that I have a right to know?”

“It’s still not mine to share,” Chloe whispered in a tone so low that he wasn’t sure that he heard.

“So it was all a facade,” he growled out. “You’re impassioned speech about truth and secrets between friends and you still can’t tell me the truth.”

“Please, Lex, I swore,” Chloe begged as the tears fell faster. He stared at her hard for a moment before heading towards the front door. “Where are you going?”

“I don’t know,” he told her honestly as he paused. “I would have thought that,” he paused.

“Thought what,” Chloe asked as she struggled to hold back her sobs.

“My girlfriend would have been open with me,” he told her as he passed through the door and quietly shut it in the face of her sobs.

Author’s Notes: Hey guys I am trying to wrap these stories up. My muse is all but chomping at the bit for me to write a Supernatural fan fiction! I don’t even know where I am going to post that one!

*-*-*-*-*-*

Her tears had dried to faint silvery tracks on her cheeks and even in her sleep he watched one leak out of the corner of her eye to trail wetly down her face. She fell asleep on the couch with the only light falling over her was from the TV. He reached out a tender hand to smooth the hair back from her face, He’d drove around the city for hours trying to sort through his thoughts.

He slid one arm under her neck and the other under the back of her knees. He tightened his grip for just a moment before walking down the hallway to his bedroom. He tried not to notice that she curled against him as trusting as a child.

“Lex,” she croaked out hoarsely. He almost dropped her when a racking cough seemed to tear from her body.

“I’ve got you,” he said quietly as he pressed a kiss to her forehead and laid her in his bed.

He quickly checked the apartment over and turned off the television before stripping off his clothes to crawl into bed with her. He could feel the heat of her body almost rolling off of her as he pulled her close.

*-*-*-*-*-*

He woke up feeling slightly disoriented. He rolled over to find Chloe lying on her stomach watching him.

“Hi,” she said quietly.

“How do you feel,” he asked.

“Fine,” she answered as she began to cough. She rolled over and scooted away from him.

“You don’t sound so fine,” he said with a frown.

“Well, that’s because the cold has settled into my chest,” Chloe told him when she could finally breath again.

“I’m calling a doctor,” Lex said as he reached for his pants.

“For a cold, are you nuts,” Chloe sneezed again. “Not all of us have super,” her sentence was cut off by another sneeze. “Genes,” she finished with a sniffle as she flopped against the bed.

“What the hell are you doing home so soon anyway,” she asked with a faint trace of annoyance.

She was rather appealing considering her eyes looked a little bleary and her nose was slightly pink but she was wearing his soft cashmere grey sweater and laying in his bed. Her hair was rumpled and she looked grumpy all of the things that she had warned him about.

“I managed to conclude my business early,” he snapped back at her still feeling annoyed about the night before and her attitude this morning.
She threw off her covers and slide out of bed to stomp down the hallway towards the kitchen.

“Chloe,” he began as he moved to follow her only to find that she had stopped in the middle of the hallway.

“You, Mr. Luthor are an ass,” she growled. “I am not doing the song and dance with you this morning. I just don’t feel up to it,” she told him as she turned and advanced to where he stood.

“So let’s get a few things straight so we can fight properly while I have my morning coffee. One, you totally closed me out last night when Clark was here. I couldn’t read you at all and I hate it when you wear that impersonal mask. It makes me feel like I’ve done something wrong. Two, you dare question me about secrets? That’s a laugh Mr. ‘Lets Play Everything Close to the Cuff’. Trying to get anything out of you is like trying to break into Fort Knox. Three, you walked out on me. I didn’t know where you were and you weren’t answering your cell phone,” she turned and walked away. “That one hurt the most of all.”

Lex ran a frustrated hand over his scalp as he watched her walk away. She was right. She knew she was right. Hell, even he knew she was right as he stalked down the hallway and into the kitchen.

“What the hell was Clark Kent doing in the apartment,” he demanded. That certainly wasn’t the apology that he had expected to come out of his mouth as he flinched when the cabinet door slammed shut.

“Excuse me,’ she asked softly as she continued to prepare the coffee pot.

“What the hell was Clark Kent doing in the apartment,” he slowly annunciated each word.

“He was in the apartment because he asked to come in and talk,” she told him in a frosty voice. “And don’t you dare speak to me like I was a four year old.”

“With you in just a sweater and panties,” he growled.

“It’s your fucking sweater,” she yelled as she slammed the coffee mug against the counter.

“You know what, if you don’t want to talk about this that’s just fine but let me get one thing perfectly clear with you,” she stood in front of him with tears of rage glittering in her eyes.

“I made a promise, Lex. I swore that I would never tell anyone his secret,” she told him as the first tear trickled down her face.

“I wouldn’t break a promise to him no matter how mad we are at each other just like I wouldn’t break a promise to you,” they fell faster as Lex watched with a tight band around his chest squeezing tighter with every word she uttered.

“I’m sorry,” suddenly the fight that he’d been spoiling for seemed empty and shallow. He reached out to touch her and was hurt when she flinched from his hand.

“I hate the thoughts of having a secret hanging above us and that’s what this feels like,” he sighed. “I always felt like the odd man out in Smallville. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t seem to fit in so after a while I stopped trying. Just having Clark here brought it all back”

“Okay,” she said as she leaned against his chest.

“Just like that okay,” Lex leaned back surprised.

“Yeah,” she looked at him. .”You explained, I understood where you are coming from, and you apologized so what else is there?”

“Why did you flinch when I tried to touch you,’ he asked puzzled.

“Because I suddenly remembered I have a cold,” she said as she sneezed and reached for a paper towel all in the same motion. “But you’re still an ass for walking out on me last night.”

“I wasn’t leaving you,” he told her as he rubbed her shoulder. “I just need space to clear my head. I’m sorry I scared you.”

“Okay,” she told him with a grin as he shook his head at her.

“Hey, I have spent months installing a Lex filter,” she told him as she poured her self a cup of coffee.

“A Lex filter,” he asked as he poured himself one.

“Yeah, it filters out all of the bullshit you spew and gets to what you mean,” she told him as she hid her smile behind her next sip as she moved out of the kitchen. “It usually works but it does occasionally get clogged. By the way your girlfriend wants breakfast in bed.”

Karma was sometimes a very good thing.

Once again the world makes sense!! LOL Thankyou for updating so quickly and fixing things.:) I  this story. Love Lex looking after her and carrying her to bed!

A supernatural story I have been trying to find some of those! I found a few on fanfiction.net they were with Chloe and dean and were great although would have been better if they were nc-17!

Let me know if you post somewhere else with a supernatural fic as I would love to read it! ;)

It's so frustrating that Clark has the ability to make problems for Chloe even without phisically being in the same room as she is. The whole deal of her knowing his secreat is just trouble. I hope she and Lex can work through the issue. I love worried Lex , he is just so sweet. I hope he will be a perfect boyfriend and take care of Chloe and pamper her while she is sick.

I absolutely love this story. I can definitely see them and each other's karma. Damn Clark and his secret, but it's good that Chloe won't give up his secret, even to Lex.

OK either you update too fast or I read too slow and I'm going with the latter and I'll just have to deal. I loved that Clark got the Chloe smackdown! But the Chlex fight was heartbreaking. However, they talked it out, they seem fine, and they both referred to having a real relationship. YAY! I think the only thing that is missing is the make-up sex. I don't have a one track mind do I?

Author’s Notes: I swear something that started off as a one or two chapter thing just blew up!!! Real life as always caught up to me, sorry about that!

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

For the last two months Chloe managed to avoid attending functions like this one with Lex. They had fallen into a workable pattern. He still didn’t like the fact that she had to work with Clark but he really had no voice in that matter. So Chloe tried to keep that portion of her life away from him and he tried not to let his jealousy come to the forefront to often. She still took risks. Occasionally coming home late and leaving at odd hours to chase a lead but he seemed to adjust to it.

Then there was of course his work that made for long trips away and hours he’d spend in his study either pouring over his paperwork or speaking to various people on the phone. Then there were the meetings that would keep him away from her for hours at a end. He didn’t discuss his projects with her and she didn’t ask. It just seemed too much like a conflict of interest.

Of course they still had their knock out drag down fights but they were coming fewer and few between. They were both stubborn pig headed people and occasionally he would slam out of the apartment only to return later when they were both much calmer. Lois showed up there one day after a particularly bad fight with a trash bags full of Nerf balls.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*

“What are these,” Lex asked her with a frown as he peered into the bag. Lois rolled her eyes at him as she leaned over to pick two up.

“They’re Nerf balls, Luthor. I know that you are rich and privileged but you do know what a Nerf ball is don’t you,” She asked with a dry tone as she rolled her eyes at the two of them.

She balanced the soft spongy balls in the palms of each hand and began to roll them around as she moved into a cleared space into the den.

“Of course I know what a Nerf ball is,” Lex replied coolly as he watched her. “What I meant was why did you bring a whole bag full of them here?”
“Oh for this,” and with deadly aim Lois threw one at Lex. Chloe could only watch in horror as it bounced off his forehead and fell on the floor.

Chloe could only hear the sounds of the clock ticking as she stared at Lois as if she had grown two heads and glanced at Lex. Then she felt the impact of one hitting her squarely in the nose as she jerked her head back in startled surprise as Lois giggled.

“Its relationship therapy,” Lois giggled again and then burst into deep hearty laughs. “Oh man, if you two could see the looks on your faces,” she was laughing so hard that she almost couldn’t get the sentence out.

Lex got a gleam in his eyes as he reached into the bag and began to throw them back at her. In the end they were chasing each other around the apartment yelling and laughing as they pelted each other with Nerf balls. No one would ever believe that the cold aloof business man known as Lex Luthor would stoop to chase her and her cousin around with Nerf balls.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Chloe sighed as she sipped her champagne across the room where he stood elegantly speaking with a new business contact. She wasn’t sure what made him notice her watching his but his head rose and he casually glanced around the crowded room to rest on her. His posture never changed nor did the expression on his face but the look in his brilliant blue eyes made her warm from the inside out. It was definitely hot as his gaze touched her from the top of her head to her toes. She fought against the tide of heat that spilled into her cheeks just from the look.

Before either of them could move he suddenly found his arms full of a slender brunette wearing red. She had pressed her entire body against his as she kissed him. Lex pulled away as soon as he could but he rested an arm lightly around the brunette’s slim waist as she glanced over to speak to the business man that Lex had been talking to while Lex discreetly wiped his mouth.

“You know, Lex that particular shade of red makes you look trashy,” Chloe said icily as she stared at the woman that had pressed herself against Lex’s side.

The one thing that Chloe always prided herself on was her ability to never forget a face. She recognized the woman immediately as the woman from the club all those months ago. The woman narrowed her eyes at Chloe as she glared at Lex.

“Well, I leave the country for a few months and I can see what the lack of attention has done to you, Lex,” the woman said in a slightly louder voice.

“Ms. Elliot, I guess there is a price to pay for collagen injections and silicon implants,” Chloe cocked her head at the woman whose lips were pulled back in a nasty snarl.

“Chloe,” Lex said with a warning look.

“Really, Lex, its okay,” the woman assured him as she moved passed Chloe. “I mean after all its not like she is significant or anything,” the woman’s cold brittle gaze swept over Chloe as she found lacking when she passed.

“I do have to ask you, how you ever managed to keep your drug rehab out of the papers,” Chloe called out to her silkily.

“Just who the hell do you think you are,” the woman stopped and glared at her.

“Me? I’m Chloe Sullivan, his girlfriend, and reporter for the Daily Planet. Just someone insignificant,” Chloe snapped at her never raising her voice. “Do you have a comment?”

She felt an instant moment of gratification as the woman paled obviously recognizing her name. Ms. Elliot turned on her four hundred dollar heals and stalked away leaving Chloe and Lex staring at each other.

“Chloe,” Lex raised his hand towards her and then slid them in his pocket.

She struggled for a moment with her jealousy before leaning in to sear his lips with a deep kiss that left him gasping before walking away from him. She could hear him making hasty apologies to the people that had witnessed the verbal cat fight. She lengthened her stride as she headed for a quiet section of the convention hall, managing to stay a few steps ahead of Lex as she found an empty conference room.

Lex entered the darkened conference room only to be shoved against the door that had been kicked shut behind him. He would have been more startled if he hadn’t smelled the light fragrance of Chloe’s perfume or felt the familiar brush of her lips as she plundered his mouth with hers. She slid her hands under his tux jacket and with a sweep of her hand allowing it to fall to the floor behind him.

“Chloe,” he muttered against her mouth.

“Shut up, Lex,” she murmured back.

Chloe rubbed against his rising excitement as she lightly mouthed the sensitive skin on the side of his neck. Her hand made short work of his belt and pants to take him in her silken grip. Her touch was frantic as she stroked back and forth quickly over his length. He gripped her around her waist and lifted her up against him and he reversed their position against the door. He allowed her to spill down the length of his body as she moan with the sensation.

Lex was quickly becoming fond of the strapless gown that she had chosen to wear tonight as she pulled down the hidden zipper on the side to step out of it. She was wearing a pale colored corset underneath that held her stocking up. He bent his head to nuzzle the warm globes of her breasts and his hands ran soothingly down her sides and cupped her wet center.

“You’re not wearing panties,” Lex said with a husky growl as he rubbed back and forth against the soaking wet heat of her core. Chloe could feel herself clench tight against his invading fingers as she stifled a moan.

“No,” she managed to gasp as she turned to brace her hands against the door. “Now god, please,” she begged shamelessly as she rolled her hips against him wantonly.

She could feel the slight burn as he thrust forward. She gasped and adjusted her stance to take what he had to offer. Her lust and anger boiling just under the surface as she thrust back. It made her feel wild and almost animalistic.
He tried to slow her movements with a hard grip on her hips but she fought against him as he pushed hard against that place deep inside her wet channel that caused the pleasure to border on pain. She tightened against her impending orgasm causing Lex to curse softly behind her as he quickened his pace. When she clenched tight around him and rolled her hips slightly he came with a soft groan. She could feel him pulsate as she pushed against him hard as she fell over the edge.

He leaned forward as she soaked up his full body tremors. Only the harshness of their breathing could be heard in the quiet room.

“What the,” Lex cleared his throat and tried again. “What the hell was that about?”

“What was what about,” she asked quietly as she stooped to pick up her gown and shake out the folds silently. He glanced at her unable to see her face clearly. Chloe blew a breath out because she knew exactly what he was referring to. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “When she threw herself at you and kissed you I saw red.”

Lex opened his mouth to reply but she cut him off.

“I know that you aren’t having an affair or anything like that,” she glanced away embarrassed. “I was making sure that you knew I was staking my claim.”

Lex was silent as he pondered her actions. He smoothly straightened his clothing and smoothed his shirt down as he glanced at her.

“You know if you were wearing my wedding ring you wouldn’t have to worry about things like that,” he said smoothly.

Great update!!!! LOVE Chloe staking her claim! We really don't see any stories where Chloe is acting on her jealousy & not Lex. I think she should've made her point a little more clear to Ms. Elliot ( with her fist to Ms. Elliot's nose)but Chloe had excellent verbal judo skills. The amut was very hot & I loved Lois's idea re: the nerf balls. Can't wait for the next chapter.

I  it. It had it all fun, smut and romance!!

Just one thing I am British does that explain why I don't know what a nerf ball is???

“They’re Nerf balls, Luthor. I know that you are rich and privileged but you do know what a Nerf ball is don’t you,” She asked with a dry tone as she rolled her eyes at the two of them.

“Of course I know what a Nerf ball is,” Lex replied coolly as he watched her. “What I meant was why did you bring a whole bag full of them here?”

That would be lovely to see Lex, Chloe and Lois running around throwing balls at each other! LOL

Then you end it leaving me with my mouth wide open and a surprised expression on my face!!

“You know if you were wearing my wedding ring you wouldn’t have to worry about things like that,” he said smoothly

You know I shall be pestering you now for another update right!

Excellent update!

It's good to know that Clark didn't mess things up to much. And I love Lois' showing up with the Nerf balls-adorable:D

The smut scene was terrific, and I liked Chloe's telling off of the bimbo that threw herself at Lex. And what a smooth way to ask Chloe to marry him:grin3:

Ok so the nerf ball image left me in a humorous mood, so when Lex said "You're not wearing panties" I instantly went to this scene in Drop Dead Fred and lost all my composure. If you've seen the movie, you might understand or you might not seeing as my brain works in strange ways. Anyways I finally got myself back together to be mesmorized by the smut, and say way to go Chloe for staking your claim and telling that skank off. Some how I don't think wearing Lex's wedding ring would curb her need to stake her claim, but I'm all for giving it a try.

Go Chloe! I love how she stayed cool and colected infront of that woman. And who does she think she is? Kissing Lex like that. Doesen't she know that Lex isn't into public displays of affection? [ unless it's Chloe of course :D ] I just adored the ending. It was so sweet, even through it maight not seem very romantic. For me it's something that Lex would do. I hope Chloe will say yes, but a big part of me knows she won't. I hope Lex will keep asking. Wonderful chapter.

‘You know if you were wearing my wedding ring you wouldn’t have to worry about things like that.’

The thought played over and over in her head as Chloe struggled to focus on the research that she was supposed to be doing in the library. They didn’t speak of it. She had glanced at Lex after he had said it and seen that he seemed reserved. All of his emotions were blocked and carefully sealed away. She was pretty sure that all of hers were too. So they just didn’t speak of it again. It had become the same old game between them, bring up an issue and then never pursue it to its conclusion.

“Chloe,” she broke out of her musings to turn around and face Lana Lange.

“Hi Lana,” Chloe forced her self to smile at her but she knew that her smile didn’t reach her eyes.

“Can I talk to you for a minute,” Lana asked as she glanced around the quiet library.

“Sh,” hissed someone near by.

Chloe quickly gathered her things and followed Lana out of the school library. She knew that she wasn’t going to get work done.

“How are things with you,” she asked as they walked into the cool afternoon air.

“They’re good,” Chloe said as she walked along. For the most part things were good between her and Lex. Their relationship went on as if nothing had happened,

“I ran into Clark the other day,” Lana continued as her hair blew wildly around her head. “He says that you and Lex are living together.”

“I don’t think that given our past history you have a right to go there,” Chloe told her coldly.

“You’re right I don’t,” Lana spoke so quietly that Chloe thought that she had miss heard her. “I have a lot to apologize for, Chloe. I’m sorry.”

Chloe glanced at her out of the corner of her eye. Lana looked serious as she strolled along lost in her own thoughts.

“So Clark cheated on you now you’re sorry,” Chloe asked as she watched the girl’s reaction.

“No,” Lana said with a wry twist of her lips. “Have you ever done something that you knew it was wrong but did it anyway? I let Clark kiss me knowing that you guys were a couple but I never got the chance to apologize for it,” Lana sighed as she shoved her hands deeper into her pockets.

“Why wait until now to bring it up,” Chloe asked as she wondered what Lana was angling for. “Why wait all this time.”

“Because Clark said that you were furious and didn’t want anything to do with us,” Lana told her silently. “Not that I could blame you. I had seen you sitting in the library and I just wanted to make sure that you knew that I didn’t think that kiss was worth what I had lost in a friend,” Lana stopped and looked at Chloe. “I know that there aren’t enough apologies that I can give you to make it better between us. You were the only one back in Smallville other then Lex that didn’t treat me like I was a fragile flower.”

Chloe was shocked almost speechless. Lana wasn’t the same person that she remembered. She seemed more mature, in control of her life, and sincere in her apology.

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” Chloe told her with a smirk.

She still couldn’t believe the ice princess grew up. Chloe was so used to mocking Lana on a good day and down right loathing her that she knew that she’d need some time to adjust to the person that Lana had become. Evidently people did change.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

People change. The thought was still running through Chloe’s head when she reached the silent apartment. Lana had changed. Clark had definitely changed. Had Lex changed? She pondered the question as she made her way to the balcony. The balcony was her thinking space.

Chloe puttered about her space watering her plants and refolding the blanket that she liked to use on cold mornings. Lex was her constant. He had changed but not in a way that most people could see, he was still suave, controlled, and at times detached. He was also caring, had a great sense of humor, and above all else patient with her.

He didn’t try to smoother her in a cocoon but unwaveringly stood by her side. He didn’t try to buy her affections with expensive trinkets or trips abroad. She knew that he worried about her when she was out chasing a story but he didn’t complain. When she’d come home he’d hold her tightly against him through the night. It was as if he was afraid that she’d disappear.

She had found her freedom in him. She could say anything to him and didn’t have to worry about censoring what she had to say. He may not always understand the thoughts that would tumble out of her mouth but he understood the emotion behind them. He never made her feel like she was lacking in some regard, because she wasn’t from the same social class as him but took her as she was. Chloe never heard the door open or Lex call out a cheerful greeting as he moved through the apartment. She was sitting on the lounge chair with silent tears running down her face clutching a blanket when Lex found her.

“Hey,” he said with concern as he sat next to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders to pull her close. “What’s with the water works?”

Chloe buried her face against his firm shoulder. She breathed in his warm clean scent and cologne. She could only shake her head at him as she raised her face to his. She smoothed her hand down his cheek and noted the concern in his bright blue eyes the faint frown that marred his forehead. She brushed her lips against his in a light fleeting kiss.

“Everything is perfect,” She muttered as she pressed a small kiss to the side of his mouth.

She trailed the kiss along his cheek allowing her hot breath to float against his skin. She could feel his pulse jump slightly as she reached the smooth skin of his neck with her lips. She lightly bit down as released him with a soft wet suck. Her fingers light skinned the front of his dress shirt.

“You give me a hickey and I am stuck wearing a tie the rest of the week,” Lex joked with her. His voice had taken on a slightly husky tone.

“You look good in ties,” Chloe assured him as she nuzzled his throat. “You look better naked,” she murmured against the warm skin that she found.

She didn’t even remembering unbuttoning his shirt but she wasn’t going to complain. His skin was so warm almost hot to the touch as she smoothed her hands across the firm planes of his chest. She could taste the light salt of his skin and exalted in the way his breathing changed slightly with her caresses. Her hand fell to his thigh to massage the muscles that she found there slowly circling higher as she gently pushed him back.

Chloe maneuvered around so that she knelt between his widely spread thighs. She raised her head to lock eyes with him as she rubbed her breasts against the hardness that tented the front of his pants as his eyes slowly became unfocused by the sensation. She could feel her own nipple tighten first from the friction and then by the cool breeze that blew against her flushed skin. He waited watching her with passion hooded eyes. He almost came off the lounger as her slightly chilled hand reached inside the warmth of his pants.

“Cold,” she asked hoarsely as she stroked the hot silky strength of him.

“God, just a little,” Lex groaned.

“We’ll have to see about making you hot,” she purred as she set him free from the confines of his pants.

His tip was already wet with a silvery gleam as Chloe smiled at him before reaching out with her tongue to lick him wetly from base to tip. She let the cool breeze blow across him for a moment before engulf the head with her hot mouth. She could feel his hips involuntarily buck as he hissed his pleasure at her sudden movement.

She played with him swirling her tongue against the head and teasing the crown before wetly sliding down his length. She pumped the hand that held him steady for her mouth up and down the wet length. She paused between teasing him and sliding his hard length down her throat. He lost in a mass of conflicting sensations from the cool air and the heat of her mouth. Chloe picked up the strength and speed of her sucking.

She took her mouth off him to look into his face as her hand continued to pump him wetly. His head was thrown back, nostrils flared, and his eyes tightly closed as he fought for control. He was beautiful.

“Keep this up and I am not going to last much longer,” he gasped out as her heated mouth once again suckled his flesh.

“I don’t want you to last,” she growled.

She purred with satisfaction as he thrust against her mouth seeking the wet confines. His tremors started in his thighs as his breathing changed to familiar pants right before he came. She felt him swell slightly as she forced him to the back of her throat. With a strangled shout he lost his famous control as he convulsed beneath her. She kept him in the back of her throat massaging him with every pulse, swallowing everything that he had to give. He shuddered as she drew her mouth off him. Chloe glanced at him with a cat like look of satisfaction as she licked her lips.

“Now that I’ve had dessert, what do you want for dinner,” she asked as she returned him to his pants. Lex ran a slightly shaky hand over his face and pulled her down into his lap.

“And what about you,” he growled against her throat.

“That wasn’t about me,” Chloe told him with a smile. He frowned slightly at her. “Okay it was all about me but not the way that you think,” she snuggled against him as he held her lightly.

“So what was it about,” he asked quietly and he entwined his fingers with hers.

“I ran into Lana at the library today,” Chloe told him. “We talked a little bit and she apologized about Clark.” Chloe sighed as she tried to retrace the path her thoughts had taken earlier.

“She’s changed. Clark’s changed. Everything changes except you,” she told him.

“Is that a bad thing,” he asked slightly confused.

“No,” Chloe laughed. “You are my rock, Lex. No matter what has happened you have been the one thing in my life that has remained constant. I suddenly felt free. I am free to be me with you. I don’t have to meet your expectations. You just take me as I am.”

“”I see,” Lex said as he frowned down at her.

“What,” Chloe asked as she caught his look.

“I do have certain expectations,” Lex said even though he could feel her stiffen against his side.

“You do,” Chloe gasped as she fought against the sinking sensation in the pit of her stomach. She hated to think hate she read their situation wrong.

“I most certainly do,” Lex said as he rubbed soothing circles on her back.

“And what’s that,” she asked some what nervously.

“Stop taking advantage of me and make an honest man of me,” he smiled down at her tenderly.

“Is that your idea of a proposal,” she teased back.

“Well, I wasn’t sure if the roses and candle light dinner was going to send you running for the hills,” Lex stared at her. Chloe suddenly felt like her mind was moving in slow motion.

“So the other night,” she trailed off as his lips quirked in small smile.

“I didn’t know how to approach it so I blurted the first thing that came to my mind,” he told her with a faint look of embarrassment. Chloe could feel her eyebrow rise at his admission. He sighed and turned his head away with a faint blush on his cheeks. “But then you didn’t say anything.”

“Well, neither did you,” she gasped as she sat up.

“I’m waiting,” he said with a cool tone of voice. This caused Chloe’s head to snap around and look at him. There was a faint muscle in his jaw flexing as he stared at her with a frown.

“Have you taken leave of your senses,” she asked him. “Of course I’ll marry you! Can we have dinner now? I’m starving,” Chloe glanced over her shoulder to watch the emotions play out across his face anger, frustration, and finally stunned disbelief. “I’ll still be expecting candle lights and roses,” she smirked.

Well I loved it !! The blowjob on the balcony was very  Lana has changed I was like OMG!!!!

“Stop taking advantage of me and make an honest man of me,” he smiled down at her tenderly.
“Is that your idea of a proposal,” she teased back.
“Well, I wasn’t sure if the roses and candle light dinner was going to send you running for the hills,”

I loved the roles being reversed instead of an honest woman he wants to be made a honest man!! :P

She said yes woohoo I am so glad, there is going to be an epilogue isn't there Yasmine???? Don't make me beg it's a disgusting sight!!!

How do you manage to make me hate Lana in one story and then like her in another? Oh I know what it is. It's that great writing style that you have.

I've never actually seen Lex naked but I will have to agree with Chloe that he does look better that way.

I think Lex has the best proposals. I'm so happy that Chloe has agreed to 'make an honest man' of him. Wish I could.

Dare I dream that there is more to this story?

You are going to have to forgive me, but I didn't realize that Clark was going out with Chloe when she saw him kissing Lana. How did I miss this crucial piece of info?! Clark is a complete jackass, and it makes me even happier that Chloe has Lex to love her and value her:D

Fabulous work!

Daily Planet
Commentaries
The New Mrs. Luthor

Various letters and comments having been made both here in the Daily Planet and in other media seemed to focus lately on slandering both Mr. and Mrs. Luthor. Having personally known them both, I can say that Chloe Luthor married Alexander ‘Lex’ Luthor for neither his money, power, nor position. Nor did he seduce and corrupt an innocent girl from a small town.
If the media had been allowed to attend the wedding, they would have found a blushing bride magnificently resplendent in her wedding gown flanked not by the dozens of bride’s maids that were previously thought but by two of her closets friends. One was her cousin and the other a raven haired woman who shall remain nameless. The guest list of the bride and groom did not consist of the world’s richest and most powerful people but were simply attended by the bride and groom’s closest friends.
Speculated double dealings and corporate takeovers were left at the front gate as the couple spun and swayed to the band in the evening air. They were just like another couple in love, they just happened to be one of the wealthiest couples in the United States. I write this letter not to boast of having been at the wedding but rather to congratulate the Luthors on their nuptials. I am pleased for them both that their karmas brought them together as her cousin likes to remind me. I sincerely hope that their lives are filled with love and happiness.

Sincerely,
C. K.

Lex rolled over and encountered a bare bed. His forehead furrowed with a slight frown as he went searching for his bride. He found her sitting by the open window of the French chateau that they were staying in. She sat framed in the early morning light. Her skin glowed like alabaster and her hair had for the briefest moment a golden nimbus around her head but it was the twin tear tracks that caused Lex concern.

“I thought you weren’t going to read the Daily Planet anymore after they fired you,” he asked frowning at the familiar paper as she wiped away her tears and beamed a warm smile at him.

“Lana sent this,” Chloe said as she passed the paper to him. He glanced down and read the article with a surprised look on his face.

“I know that he wasn’t invited to the wedding so how did he know so many details,” Lex asked with a frown.

“I don’t care but it did make me feel good,” she told him with a smile.

“Well Mrs. Luthor, I have a few ideas of my own to make you feel good as well,” Lex reached for her wrist to lightly pull her against his body.

A Moment Like This
Sung By: Kelly Clarkson
What if I told you
It was all meant to be
Would you believe me,
Would you agree
It's almost that feelin'
That we've met before
So tell me that you don't think I'm crazy
When I tell you love has come and now...

“Lex, honey it’s time,” there was a slight answering snore that came from the mound of blankets that cocooned her husbands exhausted body. Chloe blew out the breath that she had been holding and eased into sharp pants to relieve the pain. She had a moment of déjà vu and she was comforted. She always believed that feelings of déjà vu was the universes way of letting her know that she was right on track in her life. She had the exact same feeling the day that she married Lex.

She smiled down at her husband’s prone body and knew that she lived for moments like this. Together they have forged a new destiny written by the laws of love not dictated by his father. Her poor husband was exhausted having just come from one of his business deals. With her being so close to her due date he had taken to doing turn around flights only staying long enough to fly home immediately after business is taken care of. The stressing of living that way for the last month has finally taken its toll on Lex leaving him exhausted.

A moment like this
Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this
Some people search forever,
For that one special kiss
Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this

Chloe glanced at the alarm clock beside the bed and realized that if they didn’t get going soon she was going to have this baby right on the floor of their bedroom.

“Up and Adam bright eyes,” she said in a much louder voice as she jerked the blankets off her husband’s still form. He sat up and glanced around slightly wide eyed.

“Chloe,” he question gruffly in his sleep roughened voice.

“If you don’t move your ass, Luthor I am going to drive myself to the hospital,” Chloe said as her lower body started to tighten with the onset of the next contraction.

He was off the bed and landed lightly beside her to help brace her against the pain.

“Don’t fight it,” he said softly as he lent his arm around his wife’s slight form.

He could feel her bulging stomach tighten and flex against his side. Chloe gripped his hand tightly and panted her way through the contraction. Chloe finally blew out the last breath and sighed. Lex pressed kisses against the side of her forehead muttering loving phrases against her temple then he headed for his closet to get dressed.

Everything changes
But beauty remains
Something so tender
I can't explain
Well I maybe dreamin'
But 'till I awake
Can we make this dream last forever
And I'll cherish all the love we share

He emerged wearing simple slacks and shirt. Gone was the sleep befuddled man he had been only moment ago. He was replaced with the cool and controlled Lex Luthor. He had his cell phone pressed to his ear.

“Yeah, Gabe we are leaving the house now,” he strolled over in his smooth unflappable manner and gently smoothed her hair.

His eyes held nothing but love and excitement. Chloe lived for moments like this. In spite of her husband’s aloof demeanor she could always see through to the man underneath. She accepted his reserve cynical views of the world because that was what he was taught. She understood his driving need for perfection but she never hesitated to tease him mercilessly when he became too dark and brooding.

For a moment like this
Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this
Some people search forever,
For that one special kiss
Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this

The hours past in a blur as Chloe struggled to bring their child into the world. Through it all Lex never left her side. Their world had narrowed to the confines of the birthing room. Chloe knew that he was terrified of becoming a father. He was almost desperate in his determination not to become his father. He wiped the sweat from her brow, held her up while she paced her room and massaged her back to distract her but there was a tiny glimmer of fear that never left his eyes. Through the entire event he told her that he loved her and how much he needed her. Every word he uttered Chloe locked them away in heart.

Could this be the greatest love of all
I wanna know that you will catch me when I fall
So let me tell you this...
Some people wait a lifetime

What had started as a friendship with Lex had changed over the years and Chloe knew that for all her girlhood infatuation with Clark Kent that she wouldn’t have traded anything to be where she was now. Finally, sure of her place in the world and no longer feeling like an outsider looking in she was sure that no one could ever have the perfection of this moment. She loved him because of his faults rather then in spite of them. They would always have their problems but as long as she had moments when Lex looked at her with loving eyes she knew that there was nothing that she couldn’t do. He gave her the strength and the freedom to soar. He would always be her safety net.

For a moment like this
Some people spent two lifetimes,
For a moment like this
Some people search forever,
For that one special kiss
Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me
Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this

He hovered next to her as the nurse took the baby away to clean her up.

“I am a lucky man,” Lex whispered against her lips as he kissed away her tears from her exertions.

“Who wants to hold your daughter first?” the nurse asked us. Chloe glanced at Lex and saw the eagerness that was mixed with fear.

“Give her to her father,” Chloe said hoarsely. His eyes flew to mine with a questioning look. “Go ahead, I just need a moment to get comfortable,” Chloe told him as the nurses bustled around my bed to get everything cleaned up.

OHHHH, LIKE THIS

OHHHH, YEAH, 'cuz people search for every moment yeah.

Some people wait a lifetime,
For a moment like this.

Ohhhhh, like this.

Chloe watched with tears flowing freely down her face as Lex reached for his daughter with gentle hands. She smothered a sob of overwhelming feelings that flowed through her. The total look of awe on his face enraptured her.

“She is perfect,” he choked out hoarsely. His tears flowed freely down his face and she was humbled by his rare show of open emotions.

“She will make demands of you,” Chloe told him as she smiled through her tears. “She will piss you off and frustrate you to new levels. She will terrify you but she will always love you Lex. She will love you just because you are her Daddy.”

It was moments like this that gripped us tightly. People can only dream of having the moments like this. It is a powerful bond of love that can bring a new family together. It was in their Karma.

“She will make demands of you,” Chloe told him as she smiled through her tears. “She will piss you off and frustrate you to new levels. She will terrify you but she will always love you Lex. She will love you just because you are her Daddy.

I'm guessing Clark still feels bad about the way he acted towards Chloe, but I'm happy he is making the first step towards smothing things over. Especially since he mentioned that the cousin of the bride keeps remainding him about karma, which in my mind means he is having contact with Lois wich could lead to them getting together. And Lois and Chloe are close so that would bring him in contact with Chloe as well.
I loved the quote above. I'm so happy that Lex will finnaly have someone who will love him just for who he is. Someone who is just his. I hope their familly will be a very happy one. Wonderful story.

I got a little timeline confused in the beginning, but it was also 2 in the morning when I started reading this. LOL. So don't shoot me for getting confused. Good story. That was a very touching ending. Oh, and I loved it when Chloe gave Clark the what for with the you know what in the you know where after using you know what. {giggles because she didn't want to give away plot points, but she did find that part very funny}

Loved that. So perfect, so sweet, but everyone was still in character. Chloe was snarky and intelligent, Lex was brooding and sexy, Clark was a dumb self-righteous bastard that made things ok in the end, even Lana was *tolerable* even without too much change, and well, Lois gave them Nerf balls. So wonderful...thanks for helping procrastinate for another couple of hours. :) Although happy endings do make it easier to get back on track later...
