Twisted Reality: 1/1

Lex sat in the Talon; Clark and Lana huddled across
from him, Pete talking idly with his hands. Lex was
already bored of the conversation. His eyes narrowed
on the figure coming through the doors. He watched as
the silhoutted figure shifted a little with some bags
and then headed straight for the counter. "I'll be
right back." he threw over his shoulder as he fought
his way through the crowd to catch up with her.

Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
and we notice you don't come around
Me, I think it all depends
on you touching ground with us.

It was weird. Chloe had looked over at the table
where she used to sit. In her place was Lex Luthor.
Pete Ross talking animatedly to him. Clark and Lana
groping eachother as always. What had changed that
had made the world tilt and whirl, someone had shaken
it like a snowglobe and as the tiny white flecks fell
back in place, something had obviously been tampered
with. But now she was an outsider. Working with
Lionel had done her in. And no one beleived why she
did it. No one understood, therefor it was no use
explaining.

But, I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else
it seems.
And I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else
it seems.

Her hand rested on the counter with a five tucked
under it, her bag threatening to slide off her
shoulder. Her small shopping spree hadn't really
mattered. She noticed a lot of black and a lot of
gray found it's way to the checkouts, even in her
undergarments. That was okay though. It's not like
anyone would notice her. Enough time had passed that
she could clearly walk onto neutral ground and not be
harassed anymore. Afterall in a few short weeks
they'd be graduates of Smallville High.

And being alone
is the best way to be.
When I'm by myself it's
the best way to be.
When I'm all alone it's
the best way to be.
When I'm by myself
nobody else can say goodbye.

Turning around she knocked into a hard body, her grip
stayed on the styrafoam cup in her hand. "Chloe."
Lex Luthor stared down at her. Chloe felt the tears
well up in her eyes and couldn't stand there any more.
"Lex." She nodded not looking up and walked past him
out to the busy downtown streets of a smalltown place
she'd never consider home. Especially when she wasn't
welcome.

Everything is temporary anyway.
When the streets are wet --
the color slip into the sky.
But I don't know why that means you and I are
- that means you and....

She eagerly nursed the drink in her hand. She could
feel him following her before she pitched her cup into
the garbage can on the corner of two streets and
rolled her eyes as she came to a stop at a cross walk.
"What do you want?" She asked bitterly.

"Are you ever going to forget this little rift and go
talk to them?"

Chloe licked her lips, bottom then top then bottom
again. "No." She stated after seemingly thinking
about it for a moment. "I'm not."

"Why?" Lex asked taking a bag of clothing into his
own arms as she led the way to her car.

I quit -- I give up.
Nothin's good enough for anybody else it seems.
But I quit. I give up.
Nothing's good enough for anybody else it seems.

As she reached her car she popped the trunk and took
the bag from Lex. "Because, Lex. It's not worth it.
They aren't worth it. You aren't worth it." She slid
into the drivers side and started the car. Lex stood
there in silence. Completely taken aback by her
words. Yet he knew where she was coming from. One
second he was missing and she was working with his
father. The second he was found and she was partially
blamed.

And being alone
is the best way to be.
When I'm by myself it's
the best way to be.
When I'm all alone it's
the best way to be.
When I'm by myself
nobody else can say...

Lex watched as she drove off. He knew. He knew how
she felt. But now he belonged. He only wished that
she would see that she did too.

Me, I'm a part of your circle of friends
and we notice you don't come around.

I haven't seen the last two episodes of season 2 yet, but if the mood in them is any similar to this fic then... damn. A bit angsty? A bit??
Nicely written, though. Any chance of a sequel? (people always ask for sequels, noticed that? ;] )

Now I'm gonna go and find this song, because the lyrics make it a must-have for me.

Hmmm..interesting. Though, I do find it totally plausable that she would be cut out for working with Lionel, with no one giving her a chance to explain why. Poor Lex, he was just trying to help. Must read sequel now.
