Spoilers: Everything to date to be safe, but I will be twisting them
Disclaimer: Smallville, its characters, all belong to someone else. (Sigh) I’m just borrowing them.
Feedback: Please, let me know what you think, the muse craves it.

Summery: A good deed performed by Lex and Chloe at the same time in different cities leads to some very unexpected results. While Lex and Chloe both know something is wrong, everyone else is oblivious. For this Lex is 22, Chloe is 17. Everyone else is present. Lucas will probably make an appearance. Lionel can see, Martha is still working for him and there is no Helen.

Chapter One – The Good Deeds

METROPOLIS

‘Could this day be anymore boring?’ thought Lex. He hated these board meetings, especially when his father chaired them. Since the *miraculous* return of his sight, Lionel had made sure that everyone in the business world knew he was back. And so for his trouble Lex was dragged along to the Luthor-Corp general meeting. For the last three hours he had sat there while his father prattled on and on about how great he was and how he was going to make Luthor-Corp even bigger and better.

‘Dad’s really going off the wall with his God-complex,’ he thought. ‘This is almost as boring as listening to Clark whine on and on about Lana or Lana just whining full stop.’ He liked Clark; they were friends but sometimes he was convinced the boy had hay for brains. Yes Lana was attractive, but that was pretty much it, she had no substance, not like Chloe.

A small grin appeared on Lex’s face, which he soon covered with his hand lest his father caught sight of it. Now Chloe Sullivan was a lot of things all wrapped up in a very sexy bundle. And the most incredible thing about her was that she had no idea of the effect she had on men. Oh the jock brigade in her school had no idea what to look for in a woman, which is why she probably felt like the preverbal ugly duckling. But Lex had seen enough women to know that Chloe Sullivan was one of those rare women, she was one that had everything. Brains, looks, intelligence and not afraid to speak her mind. ‘Except where her beloved farm boy is concerned,’ he thought.

Lionel was talking about profit margins and glanced briefly at his son. Although Lex gave all the outward appearance that he was listening, Lionel knew quite well he wasn’t. His son’s mind was as far away from the business as it could be. While Lionel continued with his speech, inside he was fuming. Lex needed to take the business more seriously. There was no one else to take the reins from him; Lucas was too wild. No Lex had to be the one to continue on the Luthor name. But unfortunately his eldest son seemed to have more important things on his mind.

Lex could feel his father’s eyes on him, and it snapped him out of his mental wanderings. He looked at his father and smirked. The only indication of any displeasure from him was the slight change in the tone of Lionel’s voice as he finished his speech.

With an internal sigh Lex forced himself to pay attention and mentally prepared himself for the lecture he was sure to get from his father later. Sometimes Lex longed for a simpler life, one where Lionel Luthor wasn’t related to him.

--------------------------------------------------

SMALLVILLE

Chloe sat in a corner of the Talon. She watched as Pete tried to chat up some girl at another table. She watched as Lana served the customers. She watched as Clark leaned on the counter and watched Lana. ‘And people watching use to be so much more exciting,’ she thought. ‘Now it’s just the usual crap day in day out.’ The only time it got any way exciting was when Lex would make an appearance.

He would stroll in, all arrogance and swagger. Even though he wasn’t really like that, he still gave off that air of superiority. All eyes would look at him, if only for a second. Unless Clark was there, he tended to sit on his own. H would sip his coffee, read the paper and act like nothing was going on around him. But Chloe knew better, she knew he was very aware of what was going on around him.

‘Lex Luthor is a puzzle,’ she thought. ‘One I would not mind solving.’ She continued drinking her coffee, wishing he’d walk through the doors. At least it would give her something interesting to look at. But he was in Metropolis, according to Clark, who managed to drag his eyes away from Lana for ten seconds to acknowledge her presence.

She was sick and tired of how Clark was treating her. Unless he needed something he tended to stay away. His time was spent Lana-gazing, helping out his folks, or doing things with Pete. There was some secret between them and Chloe was pissed off that they didn’t deem it necessary to include their other best friend in whatever it was.

And then there was the most tiring thing of all, pretending to be all friendly and nice to Lana Lang. Everyone thought how nice it was of Chloe to ask Smallville’s resident princess to move in with her and dad when Nell decided to move away. What they didn’t know was that it was mostly Clark’s idea, and foolishly Chloe did it because Clark was her best friend. And that act was pretty much the final nail in the coffin of her crush on him.

But instead of being the usual straightforward Chloe who spoke her mind, she bit her tongue and pretended to worship Lana like everyone else. It’s not that she disliked the girl; she was ok in very small doses. But there was only so much of the whining about how everyone left her she could take. Hey maybe if she didn’t whine so much and turn every conversation so that it was about her then people wouldn’t leave her.

Sometimes Chloe longed to be someone who people listened to and were slightly afraid off.

--------------------------------------------------

METROPOLIS 9.00PM

Lex and Lionel were walking across the main hall of the Luthor-Corp building towards the exit. For the last hour Lionel had been berating Lex about his lack of professionalism during the meeting. And how on earth was he going to learn how to run a multi-million dollar corporation if he didn’t take it seriously.

‘I’ll take it seriously,’ thought Lex, ‘when you are six-feet under.’

“Are you listening to me Alexander?” Lionel’s voice sounded.

“Yes I am,” replied Lex. “I couldn’t ignore you if I tried.”

“Have a good evening Mr Luthor, Mr Luthor,” said the security guard as he held open the door for them. Lionel just walked out. “Thank you Robert,” said Lex, “you have a good evening too.”

Lex caught up with his father and they made their way to the waiting limo.

“Any spare change,” a very old and dishevelled man asked, holding his hand out. “Get out of my way,” said Lionel pushing the man.

He fell to the ground. Lex shook his head at his father and helped the old man up. “Thank you son,” he said, smiling at Lex. Lex reached into his pocket and drew out the only cash he had, a hundred dollar bill. “Here you go,” he said, putting it in the old man’s hand, “get yourself something to eat.” With that he walked off to the limo.

The old man smiled and put the money in his pocket. “You have a good soul Lex Luthor,” he whispered as the car drove off. “A good soul.”

--------------------------------------------------

SMALLVILLE 9.00PM

“See you guys later,” said Chloe as headed towards the exit. Neither Pete nor Clark said anything. “See you at home later Lana,” she added. But she didn’t hear Chloe or she was ignoring her. “Whatever,” muttered Chloe, and left the Talon.

As she headed to her car she saw a group of kids teasing an old woman who was begging. “Hey,” she shouted out to them, “leave her alone.”

The kids ignore her. “NOW,” she said, “or I’ll call the police.” They all ran away and Chloe made her way over to the woman. “Are you ok?” she asked, helping her to her feet.

“Oh thank you dear,” she said. “I was looking for food,” indicating to the trashcans.

Chloe reached into her pocket and pulled out the only cash she had, a twenty-dollar bill. “Here,” she said, handing it to her, “buy yourself something to eat.”

“You’re a good girl," said the old woman, “thank you.”

Chloe waved at her and headed back to her car. The old woman smiled and put the money into her pocket. “You have a good soul Chloe Sullivan,” she whispered as the car drove off. “A good soul.”

Chapter Two – Wishes

SULLIVAN HOUSE

When Chloe got home her dad was asleep on the couch in front of the TV. She knelt down beside him and shook his shoulder gently. “Dad.” There was no movement so she shook him again, harder this time. “DAD.” After a moment Gabe opened his eyes, “Chloe,” he said as he yawned, “what…what time is it?”

“It’s 9.45pm,” she replied after glancing at her watch. “Busy day I take it?” She looked at his tired face.

Gabe sat up and rubbed his eyes, “yeah,” he yawned again. “I think Lionel had been coming down hard on Lex, and as a result we are trying to increase productivity.”

“Well don’t work to hard,” she said, “you’ll get sick. Anyway, we all can’t have a dad as great as you,” she added with a grin, kissing his cheek.

“Ok Chlo, what has happened?” he asked warily.

“Dad,” she said with mock hurt, “what makes you think something has happened? Can’t I pay my dad a compliment? Obviously not if you automatically assume I want something or I’ve done something.”

Gabe cocked an eyebrow at his daughter when she finished her babbling. “Well, which is it?”

She grinned at him, “it’s a little of both actually. I need twenty dollars because I gave my last twenty to this old woman who was looking for something to eat. She was rummaging in trashcans, and these kids were hassling her and I chased them off and gave her some money. But I didn’t know it was my last twenty and that it was the only cash I had. I’ve no money now.”

“You gave a twenty to a homeless person,” he said.

“Dad she was really, really old and did I mention she was looking in the trashcans for food,” she said.

Gabe smiled as he shook his head. “You’re a good girl sweetie, a little generous but good none the less.” He took out his wallet and gave her twenty-dollars.

“Thanks dad,” she said, hugging him. “Do you want a coffee or something?”

“No thanks I’m good.”

“Ok, don’t fall asleep on the couch again,”

“Yes mother,” said Gabe with a grin. Chloe laughed and went upstairs to her room. She sat on her bed and kicked off her shoes. “It’s 10.00pm on a Friday night, I’m a seventeen year old girl and I’m sitting at home alone. There isn’t even a meteor freak running around the place to investigate.” She let out a deep sigh and lay back on the bed.

“My life is so crappy,” she muttered, staring up at the ceiling. “Why can’t something exciting and weird and wonderful and totally unbelievable happen to me?”

And then her rational side, the side that stopped her telling Lana what she really thought of her and stopped her from making a move on Lex Luthor spoke up. “Because you are Chloe Sullivan, budding reporter and general search engine for Smallville, they come to you for information and then they take all the credit. Exciting things happen to other people, and you stand by and watch.”

She sat up again and ran a hand through her hair. “I think a long hot bath and an early night is in order.” With that she stood up and headed to the bathroom.

--------------------------------------------------

Outside the Sullivan house, looking up at the window of Chloe’s room stood the old woman she had helped out earlier. “A good soul,” she whispered and then disappeared.

--------------------------------------------------

LUTHOR MANSION

Lex lay back on the large leather couch in the library, and sighed. He could hear his father barking at some poor unfortunate on the phone. “Why doesn’t he go back to Metropolis?” he muttered. But no there was no way that Lionel would do that. Because Lionel knew that staying here in Smallville pissed Lex off. “And that’s what his life’s work is,” said Lex, “pissing me off. Making me feel inferior and worthless. Butting in on my running of the plant. Pointing out all my flaws, berating my friendship with Clark, etc, etc.” He sighed deeply and rubbed his temples feeling a headache building.

“LEX,” his father voice called out.

‘Lex is not here he’s left the country,’ he thought. He sat up, “I’m in the library dad.”

“What are you doing in here?” asked Lionel as he entered the room.

“Reading,” smirked Lex.

“Very amusing Lex,” retorted Lionel. “Now I’ve been looking over your production figures for the plant, they aren’t big enough. That plant is more than capable of producing better than this.”

“Of course it is,” replied Lex. “If we had an additional hundred workers, if our premises and storage capacity where at least three times better and everyone worked 24 hours a day. Then it would be no problem to produce the kind of volumes you are talking about.”

“Lex, sarcasm is not a good business weapon.”

“Ok then, can I expect you to approve all the modifications to the Smallville that I need to make these figures a reality?”

“Lex I know your sarcasm skills are excellent," said Lionel with a smirk and turned to leave room. “It’s your business skills that need the improvement,” he added as he left.

“Fuck you,” muttered Lex, flopping back on the couch again. He closed his eyes and grimaced slightly at the increased pain in his head.

“Mr Luthor, I am turning in now, is there anything I can get you before I do?” a voice from the door sounded.

Lex sat up and saw the housekeeper standing there. “No thank you Sarah, I’m fine. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight Mr Luthor,” and she turned and walked away. Lex glanced down at his watch, 11.30pm. He got up off the couch, stretched and headed upstairs to his own room.

He sat on the edge of his bed and kicked his shoes off. “This is ridiculous,” he said, “I am Lex Luthor, scourge of many a nightclub in Metropolis, and here I am on a Friday night, home, at 11.30pm. And even worse I’m in my bedroom, alone.”

He lay back on the bed and sighed. “I think Clark Kent has a better social life than I do at the moment. Even if it’s only hanging around the Talon staring at Lana Lang. Hey maybe I could do that, well not stare at Lana, but stare at Chloe. And I’m talking to the ceiling. Well done Lionel you’ve finally driven me insane.”

He closed his eyes, and Chloe’s face appeared. Lex felt a smile tug at his lips. Yes he could sit in the Talon all day and stare at her, and he’d enjoy every minute of it. Because there was no way there could ever be anything between them. They came from two different worlds. “Anyway,” he muttered opening his eyes again, “she’s not interested in me. We barely talk let alone do anything else.”

He got up and undressed, pulled on a pair of silk pyjama bottoms, brushed his teeth and got into bed. He lay on his back, his hands behind his head, once again staring up at the ceiling. “Why can’t my life be more simple,” he mused, “no board meetings, no photographers waiting for you to do something newsworthy, or making it up if you don’t?” He turned off the light and turned over in the bed closing his eyes.

--------------------------------------------------

Outside the Luthor mansion, looking up at the window of Lex’s room stood the old man he had helped out earlier. “A good soul,” he whispered and then disappeared.

Chapter Three – What the F***?

“Shut up,” muttered Chloe from beneath the covers. The beeping from her alarm clock continued. “Shut UP,” her hand shot out to turn it off. But all she felt was empty space. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, glancing to her left to see why her alarm clock wasn’t there.

“Odd,” she murmured. She rubbed her eyes again and looked around her room. “What the fuck?” she gasped, jumping out of the bed. “This is not my room.”

Her *bedroom* was at least three times bigger than it usually was. Her bed was a beautiful four- poster, with silk sheets. A very large entertainment system complete with wide screen TV, VCR and DVD player was set up in the corner, with a rather large and very comfortable looking armchair in front of it. “Oh god what is going on?” She ran into the bathroom, and couldn’t prevent the gasp that escaped her lips. There was a shower unit that was the size of her entire bathroom at home, and a huge sunken bath in the spacious room. She ran out again and threw open the closet doors; there were literally racks and racks of designer clothes and shoes. Chloe stumbled back away from the closet and sat on the bed. She pinched herself hard on the arm, hard enough to bring tears to her eyes and yelped out in pain.

“Ok,” she murmured, “not a dream. And not another kidnapping, or if it is, they are very generous with where they keep their captives.”

She literally jumped when there was a knock on the bedroom door. “Come in,” she said warily.

The door opened and a woman she had never seen before entered. “Sorry to disturb you, but your father is expecting you for breakfast. Shall I tell him that you are on the way Miss Luthor?”

--------------------------------------------------

Lex buried deeper into the covers as the alarm beeped, willing it stop. But he couldn’t handle it’s incessant beeping anymore and an arm shout out from under the covers. “Ouch,” he cried as he hit a dresser. He sat up and stretched, yawning as he did.

His eyes opened briefly and then closed again. But almost immediately they opened again. “What the fuck?” he muttered. He looked around the modest bedroom, “this isn’t my room.”

He sat up and ran a hand over his face. “Did I go out last night, get drunk, pick up some woman and spend the night?”

He got out of bed and noticed he was wearing cotton pyjama bottoms as opposed to silk ones. “This room is tiny,” he muttered. He opened the closet doors; there were none of his suits or designer clothes. Just a couple of dress pants and shirts, but mainly jeans and…flannel. “Ok, I morphed into Clark during the night.”

Although he knew that was ridiculous, this was Smallville and he ran over to what he assumed was a bathroom and checked his reflection in the mirror. “This is a *tiny* bathroom,” he observed when he was satisfied that he was still Lex Luthor.

He padded back out and sat on the bed. “Ok Lex, think. This might be a kidnapping, although when that usually happens to me I tend to find myself bruised and tied up. So let’s scratch that one out.”

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. “Yes,” he said. The door opened and Lana’s head popped in.

“Lana,” he gasped, not bothering to cover his surprise, “what are you doing here?”

“Are you ok Lex?” she replied, “Why wouldn’t I be here? I live here.”

--------------------------------------------------

“Excuse me,” said a very baffled Chloe, “what…what did you just say?”

The housekeeper looked at Chloe and repeated what she had said.

“Ok,” said Chloe, “and then what did you call me?”

“I’m sorry,” replied the woman, “I know you have told me time and time again to call you Chloe, but I keep slipping. I’ll remember in future, I’ll leave you the get dressed.” With that she left, closing the door behind her.

“She did,” exclaimed Chloe, “she called me Miss Luthor. Why did she call me that?” Realisation dawned on Chloe, “I’m in the Luthor mansion. Oh god what is happening?”

She took a very quick shower and got dressed. Before leaving the room she looked down at what she was wearing. She had on a pair of black leather pants, and a cream peasant blouse, finished off with a pair of black boots. She had to admit she loved the clothes in the closet.

She cautiously headed down the stairs and heard a voice coming from one of the rooms. Quietly she made her way over to it and opened the door slowly. Taking a deep breath she walked in.

“Ah Chloe, how nice of you to join us.”

“Mr Luthor,” she gasped when she saw Lionel sitting there.

--------------------------------------------------

“You live here,” repeated Lex.

“Lex did you bang your head or something,” smiled Lana. “Yes I live here, I live here with you and your dad.” She couldn’t stop the blush flooding her face and she took in Lex’s bare torso. She had such a huge crush on him, and since moving in with him and his dad, that crush had only intensified. And seeing him every day, catching him regularly walking around with no top on just drove her crazy.

“And he wants to know if you want breakfast?”

Lex nodded and sat back down again on the bed. “Ok,” said Lana with a smile, “I’ll tell him you are up and on the way down.” She left the room.

Still in a bit of a daze and with the tune to the Twilight Zone playing in his head, Lex went into the bathroom to take a shower. Fifteen minutes later he stood looking at the surreal picture in the mirror of him wearing black jeans and a flannel shirt. “What is going on here?” he murmured to his reflection. “If I go downstairs and see my father dressed the same I’m going to have a heart attack, ok I’ll laugh first and then a heart attack.”

He left his *room* and walked down the stairs. The house looked like any other normal residence in Smallville. He heard voices in what he assumed was the kitchen and headed towards it.

“Oh it’s up.”

“Gabe,” gasped Lex.

--------------------------------------------------

“Mr Luthor,” smirked Lionel. “Now I know when you are angry with me Chloe you tend to get formal, but it’s usually Lionel that you call me, or father with that pissed off voice of yours. But Mr Luthor is taking it just a little too far. Don’t you think?”

Chloe just stood there, her mouth opening and closing but no words would come out. Probably because her brain just couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on.

“Chloe stop standing there gaping like a fish and sit down and have your breakfast,” said Lionel. As if sleepwalking Chloe walked over and took her seat at the table. Suddenly a maid appeared and poured her out a cup of coffee. “Thank you,” she muttered.

“So what have I done now?”

“Sorry…done…what are you talking about?” she stammered.

“What have I done to warrant your anger this time,” said Lionel, “is it because I told you to stay away for that young man?”

Chloe said nothing, hoping Lionel might give something away to help her figure out what was going on. “I’m sure he is very nice,” said Lionel, “but not good enough for you. So I’ll reiterate what I said yesterday, stay away from Lex Sullivan.”

The cup fell from Chloe’s hands, smashing on the floor. “What?” she gasped.

--------------------------------------------------
“Lex I know you are over twenty-one,” said Gabe with a smile, “but I don’t care if you are forty-one, I’ll still be ‘dad’. Now sit down and eat your breakfast.”

Lex almost stumbled to the table and sat down. Lana placed a plate of waffles in front of him and poured him a cup of coffee.

“You’re still mad, aren’t you son?” said Gabe.

‘Son,’ thought Lex, ‘oh God this is too fucking weird.’

“But I just don’t think it’s a good idea you hanging around with the boss’ daughter,” continued Gabe. “I know she is a nice girl but this Chloe Luthor we are talking about.”

Lex almost choked on his coffee when he heard what Gabe said about Chloe. “What?” he gasped.

Chapter Four – New Lives

“Really Chloe, what has gotten into you this morning?” said an irritated Lionel. A maid rushed in when she heard the cup smashing and began cleaning it up.

“I don’t feel so good,” muttered Chloe. “I think I’ll go back to bed,” she made a move to stand up.

“Sit back down Chloe,” said Lionel in a voice that left room for no arguments. “Leave,” he said to the maid, waving her away, “you can do that later.” She scurried out of the room.

Chloe stared at her hands, she felt very confused and scared and completely uncomfortable in Lionel Luthor’s presence. She had *never* spoken to the man before and now…now she hadn’t got a clue what was going on.

Lionel sensed that there was something bothering his daughter that had absolutely nothing to do with him forbidding her to be friends with Lex Sullivan. “What’s wrong?”

She lifted her head to look at him. ‘Well I seem to have entered the twilight zone where I am not Chloe Sullivan but Chloe Luthor, and the same seems to have happened to Lex. And you are forbidding me to be friends with him and I am so fucking confused at the moment that I want to do is crawl into bed and hope when I wake up this will have been a nightmare,’ she thought.

But all she said to Lionel was, “there’s nothing wrong. I’m just not feeling so good.”

“Chloe.”

“What? Is it against the law for a Luthor to feel sick?” she snapped.

Lionel smirked as he heard his daughter sounding more like her normal self. “Fine,” he said dropping the subject. “Oh by the way Lucas will be visiting in a couple of weeks. I trust you will be on your best behaviour.”

“I will behave like I normally do,” she replied, hoping that answer would suffice.

“I said your *best* behaviour Chloe, he is your brother and will take over some day.”

“Why, cause he’s male? Women can run multinational companies as well; it’s not a job exclusively for men,” she retorted. All the confusion over what was happening was forgotten for the moment as she warmed to the argument. “You do know that this is the 21st century, and women aren’t expected to stay at home and look after the kids, they are allowed to have careers of their own.”

“Chloe I am not having this conversation with you again,” replied Lionel.

“I’m fine if I’m not going into the *family* business, I don’t really want to anyway,” she said, “What I really want to be is a reporter.”

Lionel almost choked on his coffee when he heard her say that. He remembered her mentioned something about it when she was much younger but he thought he had managed to completely dissuade her from that choice of career.

‘Score one for me,’ thought Chloe, ‘at least he still hates reporters.’ “Are you ok?” she asked sweetly.

Lionel just glared at her while he caught his breath. “You can forget all about that silly reporter business Chloe.”

“Forget about being a reporter, forget about being friends with Lex,” she mimicked, “God am I allowed to remember anything?”

“You will remember you are a Luthor,” said Lionel, standing up. “I have a meeting, I will see you later,” and with that left the room.

“I am *not* a Luthor,” she whispered after him. “First things first I need to call Lex.”

--------------------------------------------------

“Are you ok Lex?” asked Lana. She jumped out of her chair and began patting his back as he coughed and spluttered. ‘I’m touching him,’ she thought.

“I’m fine,” he muttered.

“Wow you are really out of sorts this morning,” said Gabe with a grin. Lex looked up at him. “Look son,” he continued, “I’m sorry to be coming down on you about this friendship with Chloe, but we work for her father, and I’m just not comfortable with the two of you being friends.”

Lex pretty much heard nothing after the words ‘I’m sorry’, in his entire life he had never heard his father utter those words to him, over anything.

“So what else is bothering you Lex?”

‘Where to start,’ he thought. ‘Well Gabe, from what I can gather I went to bed last night as Lex Luthor and for some totally unbelievable reason that can’t be measured with modern technology I woke up this morning as *your* son. And it seems that your daughter is now Lionel’s daughter. Isn’t that just the funniest thing you have ever heard?’

“It’s nothing,” he lied, “I just didn’t sleep well last night.”

“Well I better get off to the Talon,” said Lana, “seeing as I work for a Luthor as well.” She got up and washed her cup. “Will I see you there later?” she asked Lex.

“Probably,” he muttered.

“Ok, well by Lex, bye Mr Sullivan.”

“Bye Lana,” said Gabe and she left the two men alone.

Lex could feel Gabe’s eyes on him. “What?” he said looking up at him.

“Lex, I know working at the plant is not what you want, hell it’s not what I want for you either,” said Gabe, “you are so much better than that. You can really go places. Think of the plant as a stepping-stone to bigger and better things. You just need to believe that, because son I already do.”

Lex felt a lump form in his throat at Gabe’s words and the look of pure pride that shone in the older man’s eyes. He swallowed a couple of times as he tried to get his vocal cords to work, and for the first time in his life he actually couldn’t think of anything to say.

“Thanks,” he said softly.

“Oh we are going to the Kent’s for dinner tonight. You, Lana and myself, so whatever you are planning to do today make sure you are at the farm by 7.30pm. Ok?”

Lex nodded and got up; he rinsed his cup and decided to head back upstairs to see if he could get in contact with Chloe. As he was leaving the kitchen Gabe’s voice sounded out again, “remember what I said about Chloe Luthor. I know it’s impossible for the two of you not to bump into each other but no more of these *meetings*.”

“Yes,” muttered Lex and headed upstairs.

--------------------------------------------------

When Chloe heard Lionel’s car pulling out of the driveway she locked the door to the bedroom and sat down on the bed. Three times she reached her hand out to pick up the phone and each time she chickened out.

“What if Lex doesn’t realise something is wrong?” she said, “what if as far as he is concerned this is normal? Oh God then I will totally be on my own.”

She stared at the phone again; “oh for goodness sake Chloe it’s just a phone.” She took a deep breath and just as she was about to pick it up it rang.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex held the phone close to his ear as he heard it ringing. “Answer it, answer it,” he said. Still it continued to ring. “Come on answer it.”

He was just about to hang up with it was answered and a very tentative “hello” came from the other end.

“Chloe?” he said softly.

“Oh thank god Lex it’s you,” came the very relived reply.

“Chloe, please tell me that you realise that something is very, very wrong,” he said, a slight note of desperation in his voice.

“Yes,” she cried, “I was so hoping you would too.”

There was a slight pause and then both spoke at the same time, “So what the fuck is going on?”

Chapter Five – Meeting Up

There was silence for a moment and before Lex could say anything else, Chloe launched into her rant.

“You do realise how totally unbelievable this is. I mean even by Smallville’s really weird standards this is so far off the scale that it can’t even been imagined. What’s going on? What happened during the night that seemed to have made me Lionel’s…daughter and you my dad’s son? Ok now that sounds confusing when I say it out loud, but you know what I mean. And everyone thinks this is the normal thing. I had breakfast with Lionel Luthor this morning. The servants are calling me Miss Luthor….”

“SHUT UP CHLOE,” Lex practically roared down the phone. He could almost hear Chloe’s mouth opening and closing as she tried to say something. “I’m sorry to have shouted at you, but it was the only way.”

“I just want to go home,” she said in a small voice.

“I know you do,” he replied, “and as soon as we figure out what has happened the sooner we can go about setting it right. Ok?”

“Ok Lex, so what do you propose we do?”

“Would you believe me if I said I had absolutely no idea,” he replied.

“Neither do I,” she whispered. Lex’s heart fell at the sound of her voice; she sounded scared. “We should meet up Chloe and talk though everything.”

“Easier said than done,” she replied, “Lionel has forbidden me to see you.”

“Actually Gabe has pretty much said the same thing, although he phrased it much nicer. Although he did say he couldn’t stop us bumping into each other.”

“Well Lex, I think we should *bump* into each other at the Talon, if it still exists, in say an hour.”

“It still exits, and Lana still works there, and apparently you are the owner.”

“Interesting,” murmured Chloe, as thoughts of bossing Lana around flooded her mind.

“So Chloe I’ll see you there in an hour,” he said.

“An hour,” she replied. “Bye Lex.”

“Bye Chloe,” and both hung up. Chloe breathed a sigh of relief in the knowledge that like her Lex knew things were messed up. Across town in the Sullivan’s modest house Lex was thinking the same about Chloe.

--------------------------------------------------

“Lex was acting really weird this morning,” said Lana as she and Clark were talking at the counter. “Especially after his dad told him not to hang around with Chloe so much.”

“Well that is probably for the better” said Clark, “I mean they don’t have that much in common.”

“Who doesn’t have that much in common?” asked Pete, coming up behind them.

“Lex and Chloe,” said Lana, “Gabe was telling Lex not to hang as much with her.”

“Why he would want anything to do with a Luthor is a mystery to me,” muttered Pete. Clark rolled her eyes at his best friend as he prepared himself for another Pete Ross rant on the evils of the Luthors.

“But Chloe’s not too bad,” said Clark, “and she has been trying to fit in since she got here. She even helped Lana get this place off the ground,” he said, waving his arm around the Talon.

“She is still a Luthor,” retorted Pete. Just then Lex entered the Talon and caught Clark’s eye, who waved him over. He made his way over to the counter.

“Hey Lex,” said Pete. Lex managed to cover his shock at the sight of Pete Ross being nice to him, ‘because I’m not a Luthor,’ he added silently.

“Heard your dad came down on you about Chloe,” said Clark.

“Speak of the devil,” said Lana, just before Lex could answer. They all turned and saw the silver BMW pull up in front of the Talon. Lex managed to conceal a smirk when he saw the licence plate ‘CHLOE1’.

‘Oh wow,’ he thought as she entered the coffeehouse. She looked good in those leather pants. Chloe couldn’t help but grin at the sight of Lex Luthor dressed in *normal* clothes. She never thought she’d see the day where he’d be wearing flannel. As she made her way over she noticed the stares of the other customers and the look of hatred on Pete’s face. Her heart almost broke, Pete was her best friend, but because of whatever had happened he now hated her with the fervour that he hated Lex.

“Hi Chloe,” said Lana with a smile, “can I get you anything?”

“Latte please,” she replied. “Clark, Pete,” she said, “Lex.”

Clark said hi back, Pete ignored her and Lex smiled. Lana came back with her coffee and she took it heading to a small table at the back. Lex started over to her. “Where are you going?” asked Clark. Lex just smirked and continued walking, taking the seat opposite Chloe.

“How do you handle it?” she asked when he sat down. “Handle what?” he asked.

“The staring everywhere you go,” she said. Lex just shrugged his shoulders, “I guess I’m just used to it, I never really think about it anymore.”

“I suppose,” muttered Chloe. “Ok so what did you do yesterday, was there anything out of the ordinary?”

“No,” he said, shaking his head for emphasis. “I spent the best part of the day in Metropolis at a board meeting with my father. We got back to Smallville. I had a couple of arguments with him in the mansion. I retired early and woke up in your bed. And I don’t mean that the way it sounded,” he finished with a grin. “What about you?”

“Boring day,” she replied. “Finished school, worked on the Torch. Came here, had coffee, watched Clark watching Lana and then went home. Talked to my dad for a little while and then went to bed. And woke up in yours this morning.”

“So what the hell happened during the night,” said Lex, “that caused all this. And the fact that everyone seems to be affected as well.”

“I don’t know Lex, but I want it to end,” she said. Lex reached out and took her hand in his, squeezing it gently. “We’ll figure it out Chloe,” he said softly.

--------------------------------------------------

Lana narrowed her eyes as she saw Lex take Chloe’s hand. ‘That won’t do,’ she thought.

“Mr Sullivan is going to be pissed if he hears about that,” commented Clark as he watched Lex and Chloe.

--------------------------------------------------

“Chloe for the time being we are going to have to live these lives,” said Lex. “Which means I have to go to the Kents for dinner tonight.”

“Oh lucky you,” replied Chloe with a small gin, “I get to have dinner with Lionel. And apparently Lucas is paying a visit in a couple of weeks. But we’ll have everything back to normal by then. Won’t we?”

Lex said nothing and just squeezed her hand again. He couldn’t answer yes to her question anymore than he could answer no. “So how was my father this morning?” asked Lex.

“I didn’t pay much attention I was still in a state of shock. Although I did nearly give him a heart attack when I told him I was thinking of becoming a reporter.”

Lex laughed out loud as he pictured the look of horror that would have graced Lionel’s face at the thought of having a reporter in the family. “Oh Chloe, you will be well able to handle my father till this gets sorted.”

She smiled at him and looked down sat their still joined hands. “Do you think this is ‘wall of weird’ material?” she asked.

“I think goes way beyond the wall of weird,” replied Lex, “ I have no idea what this is about, and why it is you and I that are affected.”

“But we will figure it out Lex, together.”

He smiled at her, “together.”

--------------------------------------------------

They remained talking for another hour. Telling each other things about their lives that might benefit the other.

“I guess I’d better go,” said Chloe, standing up. “I bet you enjoyed driving that car,” said Lex with a smile.

“Oh you have no idea, can I offer you a ride?” she asked. “No it’s ok,” he said. They walked towards the counter and Lex noticed the dagger Lana was shooting Chloe with her eyes. ‘What’s that about?’ he thought.

“Oh Lana,” said Chloe, “could you drop a copy of the books off at the mansion, I would like to look over them.” Lex covered his mouth with his hand as they walked out the door. “Ok I enjoyed that way too much,” laughed Chloe.

“I’ll call you later,” he said, “when I get back from the Kent’s and we’ll decide how we even start going about figuring out what’s going on.”

Chloe nodded and quickly kissed his cheek before getting into the car, a blush forming on her cheeks. As she drove off Lex touched where she had kissed, not noticing the looks on Clark, Pete, and Lana’s faces behind him.

Ok, i am all for the Lana bashing, now, she really thinks she has a chance with Lex ? and i loved Chloe imitating Lex with the Talon books ;)
So, in this fic, who saved who ? did Clark save Chloe, introducing them to each other ? who loves who ? obviously, Lana loves Lex, but what about Clark ?
And poor Chloe, her best friend Pete hates her.

and that was funny, Lana actually think she has a chance. even with Lex as a Sullivan she wouldn't stand a chance against Chloe.

Chapter Six – Settling In

When Chloe got back to the mansion she had discovered Lionel had rang and left five messages. “Well he can call back,” she muttered. As she wandered through the halls she wondered what on earth possessed her to kiss Lex, ok it was only his cheek, but it was still a kiss.

She turned into a familiar corridor and a shiver ran down her spine. To her left was the window she had fallen out of during her ill-fated interview with Lex. She closed her eyes briefly as memories of that night flooded back.

“Hey,” a voice sounded behind her, their hand resting on her shoulder. Chloe screamed and turned around, punching the person in the face.

“Ouch,” groaned Lucas, clutching his chin, “nice to see you too.”

“What are you doing? You should sneak up on people like that? You almost gave me a heart attack you idiot. Why are you here?”

“Well I’m just feeling the sisterly love,” quipped Lucas. “I arrived early, I rang the old man and told him, and he said he would let you know.”

“Hence the messages,” she muttered. “I was out.”

“And was one meeting a certain bald-headed plant manager’s son?” asked Lucas with a grin, still rubbing his chin.

“And that would be none of your business,” retorted Chloe. ‘And how weird is this, my *brother* and I in this world, discussing his *real* brother. And I really have to stop confusing myself.’

Lucas watched, as Chloe seemed to have some sort on an internal debate with herself. “Chloe, I like Lex, he’s just a little rustic for you.”

Chloe rolled her eyes, wondering if that’s what the real Lex thought of her as. ‘Yeah, like Lex Luthor thinks about you,’ an inner voice spoke up. “Lex and I are *friends* Lucas,” she said, a hint of anger in her voice.

“Of course you are just friends,” he replied with a smirk, “and I’m still a virgin.”

Chloe rubbed her temples feeling a headache coming on. Dealing with Lionel and Lucas Luthor was hard work. What she really wanted to do was go home and sit in the kitchen talking to her dad as he made pizza. She even wanted to hear his inane crap factory jokes. She wanted to go back to where Pete didn’t look at her with hate in his eyes.

“Chloe.”

“What?”

“Are you ok? You seem…out of it,” asked Lucas, concern in his voice.

She gave me a small smile, “it’s just been a weird day,” she said, which wasn’t exactly a lie. Chloe thought for a moment about telling Lucas, but having her *brother* getting her committed to an insane asylum didn’t sound like fun.

“Look Chlo,” he said draping an arm around her shoulders, “when have you *ever* listened to dad when he’s been forbidding you to see someone?”

“Never,” she said, praying that was correct.

“Exactly,” he grinned, “so if you want to be *friends* with Lex Sullivan, you go right ahead and be friends.”

“Why are you here early?” she asked, moving his arm from her shoulder. This was all still very uncomfortable, but secretly she had to admit that if she had a brother Lucas Luthor wouldn’t make a bad one.

“No particular reason, or do I need one to visit my father and sister,” he replied.

Chloe said nothing; although she didn’t know Lucas very well from she had heard about him she didn’t think he had just dropped by. He probably got involved in something and needed Lionel to bail him out again.

“Let’s grab something from the kitchen,” he said, “and then you can tell me all about this reporter business that has the old man fuming. Chloe let out a small laugh and allowed Lucas to lead her to the kitchen.

--------------------------------------------------

After Chloe had driven off, Lex had to listen to Clark and Pete tell him how wrong getting involved with Chloe *Luthor* would be. He just sat there as they prattled on, he allowed himself to slip into ‘meeting-mode’ as he called it. It was a trick he used when attending board meeting with his father, he could sit there looking like he was listening when really his mind was miles away.

As he made his way back to the Sullivan house he couldn’t help but think that maybe there was more to his relationship with Chloe than just friendship. Clark and Pete definitely seemed to think it was more than that. ‘Great,’ he thought, ‘it takes a fuck up like this for Chloe and I to have a deeper relationship.’

When he got home, Gabe was there. ‘I guess Lana couldn’t keep her mouth shut and told him that I met Chloe there,’ he thought as his took in the look on Gabe’s face.

Taking a deep breath Lex looked at Gabe, “dad,” he said, the word almost catching in his throat.

“Alexander, did you not pay attention to our conversation this morning?”

Lex rolled his eyes, “yes I paid attention. She happened to be there while I was; you did say you couldn’t stop us bumping into each other. And I was talking to her to tell her about our little conversation this morning.” Well it was partly the truth.

“You really should be a lawyer,” muttered Gabe, trying to keep a grin off his face. His son could quite literally talk his way out of anything. “We leave for the Kents’ in half an hour,” he said.

Lex just nodded and headed back upstairs. As he was making his way to his room he passed by what he assumed was Lana’s room. He knocked on the door gently when he heard a noise coming from it.

“Come in,” she said. Lex opened the door and walked in. ‘Lex in my bedroom,’ thought the brunette, flashing him her best smile.

“Sorry to disturb you Lana,” he said. “Oh that’s no problem, you know you are always welcome,” she gushed.

Lex cocked an eyebrow at that statement but chose not too comment on it. “I just wanted to say something to you,” he said.

‘Oh-my-God,’ she thought, ‘he’s going too…’ “What is it Lex?”

“What goes on between Chloe and myself is my business, not yours,” he said, his carrying a threat. “If you *ever* go running back to Gabe telling tales again you will be sorry. Do I make myself clear Lana?”

Lana’s mouth dropped open and she found she couldn’t speak. “Well Lana, do I make myself clear? Or would you like me to explain it to you again this time using smaller words?”

“Yes you’re making yourself clear,” she whispered, shock evident in her voice.

“Good,” he said with a smirk, “I am so glad we understand each other.” He walked out the door, closing it behind him.

Lana sat on her bed trying to figure out what had just happened. “He can’t possibly like Chloe over me,” she said, “he’s just upset that I told Gabe, that’s what it is. Everything will be ok again tomorrow.”
--------------------------------------------------

Lex stood outside the door to Lana’s room and heard what she said. “Oh crap,” he muttered heading to his own room, “she has a crush on me.” He flopped down onto the bed, “and now I have dinner with Jonathan Kent to look forward too. I hope Chloe’s night goes much better.”

Chapter Seven – Musings

Lex sat in the back seat as they drove to the Kent farm. Every now and then Lana would glance in the mirror and catch Lex’s eye. He smirked to himself as she looked away quickly each time.

‘I wonder if Clark is still in love with Lana in this reality,’ he thought to himself. ‘And if Chloe still has her crush on Clark.’ He turned his head and watched the fields pass by, Gabe was chatting about the plant and Lex added ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to the conversation where appropriate.

He always liked Gabe, granted he didn’t know the man that well, but as an employee he was a good man. He remembered back to when Earl Jenkins took everyone hostage at the plant, and the look of concern for his daughter that Gabe had on his face when Lex had offered himself in exchange for the hostages. And then he remembered the look on Lionel’s face when everything was over. The look of ‘well done Lex, you fucked up again’.

But then Lex thought back to his conversation with Gabe at breakfast. And the look of pride on the man’s face as he told him he was better than a job at the Luthor-Corp plant. Ok Gabe Sullivan wasn’t his father, but having never had Lionel look at him like that, Lex, now over the shock of it, found himself savouring the moment.

So here he was on the way to Jonathan and Martha Kent’s for dinner. He was interested in seeing how Jonathan would treat him. ‘Probably like his son’s best friend,’ a voice in his head spoke up. ‘You are not a Luthor here, so he’s probably ok with you and Clark being friends.’

Lex also planned on asking a few subtle questions about the *Luthors*. He wanted to see if everything that had happened to him was still the case with Chloe. So far he had discovered that Lucas was on the scene, although this time he was the older brother with a younger sister.

He smiled to himself at the thought of Lionel Luthor with a teenage daughter, and especially one as free-spirited, stubborn and not afraid to speak her mind as Chloe Sullivan. ‘She’ll keep him on his toes,’ he thought. ‘Probably more than I ever did.’

Lana glanced quickly in the mirror, and inwardly breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Lex was looking out the window. She still couldn’t get over what he had said to her in her room earlier. Her eyes narrowed as she noticed the smile on his face, and wondered if he was thinking about Chloe Luthor.

Things had been going fine till little miss rich came to town. She and Lex were getting on really well, ok no sign of any romantic moves from him but Lana was sure it was only a matter of time. But then things changed, they had all been sitting in the Beanery one day just chatting and in walked Chloe Luthor in all her designer gear. Lana could still remember the look of Lex’s face as he looked at the blonde. It was the same look on Chloe’s face when she looked at Lex.

Clark was the one who recognised her; the principal in school the previous day had called him aside and told him that she was going to be attending the school. Pretty much after everyone knew whom she was, the whispers, gossip and rumours started.

Chloe had been friendly enough to people and managed to handle the very obvious anti-Luthor stance most of the town had. She had even helped her get the Talon off the ground. In fact she was more than capable of standing up for herself. Lana had been present on a few occasions where Pete and Mr Kent had felt the brunt of Chloe Luthor’s temper. But it was her friendship with Lex that raised the eyebrows.

“Here we are,” announced Gabe, interrupting both Lex and Lana’s thoughts. “I am so looking forward to Martha’s cooking.” He pulled up in front of the house and all three got out. ‘This should be interesting,’ thought Lex as they made their way to the front door.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe burst out laughing again as Lucas told her another story about his various exploits. They had been sitting in the kitchen for a couple of hours, eating ice cream and basically just chatting. And the more they talked, they more Chloe liked the guy. He was a real charmer and Chloe could understand why most of his *indiscretions* involved women.

Lucas was glad his sister seemed much happier. They were still very much in the getting to know you stage and Lucas really wanted the two of them to get on. He could understand how much of a shock it must have been for her when he suddenly appeared in her life. And the fact that Lionel knew all about him and neglected to tell his daughter didn’t really paint a good picture of Lucas in Chloe’s eyes.

Lucas knew Chloe had been very close to her mother and her death still weighed on Chloe’s mind. And when her illegitimate older brother suddenly appeared and that Lionel had been fooling around on his wife since pretty much the beginning of their marriage, she went ballistic. She refused to see him and Lionel suffered the Chloe silent treatment for almost a month.

But Lucas had worked hard on trying to gain her trust, and slowly they were becoming friends. It would be a while before they were brother and sister, but being friends was enough for Lucas at the moment. And he figured she needed all the friends she could get. She had to live under the cloud of Lionel since coming to Smallville and as a result people stayed away from her. And the prejudices moved from parents to kids and at the school she pretty much underwent the same treatment. Clark Kent was friendly enough to her as was Lana Lang, but Chloe couldn’t really count either of them as friends.

In fact the only person who didn’t care about the surname Luthor was Lex. And Lucas guessed that Chloe confided a lot in him. Also Lucas knew there was more to their relationship than friendship, ok maybe they hadn’t moved passed being friends yet, but it was only a matter of time. He liked Lex but wasn’t sure about him getting involved with his sister in anything other than friendship, Lex was after all 22 and Chloe was still a teenager.

‘And when did I suddenly get morals,’ he thought.

“So what are your plans for the evening?” he asked.

“Well I don’t have anything planned really,” she replied. ‘Actually I was going to try and figure out what was going on with Lex and I living the other’s lives.’ She added silently to herself.

“I don’t think dad’s going to make it back tonight,” he said, “and I can tell you are as disappointed about that as I am. So let’s go out.”

“Go out,” she repeated, “in Smallville.”

“Ok, so it’s not the most happening place in the world,” he grinned, “but it has to be better than hanging around this museum. And I do believe there is an ‘Indiana Jones’ marathon on.”

“You are a ‘Indy’ fan?” she exclaimed.

“Of course,” he replied. “So what do you say?”

“Let me grab my jacket and we’ll go,” she replied happily. “Oh and I’m driving.”

Lucas laughed as she ran out of the kitchen.

Chapter Eight – Discoveries

“So glad you could all come,” said Martha with a smile as they entered the house.

“Mrs Kent can I give you a hand with anything?” asked Lana. She really wanted to get away form Lex for the moment; he was being so cold around her she actually felt like shivering. “Thank you Lana, I could do with some help with the table. Gabe, Jonathan is in the front room, and Lex, Clark is in the barn if you want to go talk to him.”

“Thanks,” muttered Lex, glad for a reason to get out of the house. ‘Too many people,’ he thought, ‘too many people being *nice* to one another.’ He headed over to the barn.

“He seems a little out of sorts,” said Martha to Gabe, when Lex had left. “Yeah, I don’t know what has gotten into him. I thought it was because I told him not to hang around with Chloe Luthor anymore. But now, now I’m thinking it’s something else. And for the life of me I don’t know what it is.”

“I would say it’s a teenage thing,” replied Martha with a sympathetic smile, “but he’s not a teenager anymore. I’m sure it’s nothing serious Gabe.”

Gabe smiled back at her and headed to talk to Jonathan.

“So Mrs Kent,” said Lana, “what do you think of Chloe Luthor?”

Martha turned to the brunette, “I like the girl,” she replied. “And since I started working for her father, I’m liking her a lot more. She has to put up with a lot from him, and live up to a lot. Lionel Luthor sets very high standards for his daughter. And since this *brother* turned up, things have gotten harder for her. Being that rich doesn’t make her that happy.” Martha gave Lana a small smile and turned back to her cooking.

‘Yeah she maybe be nice,’ thought Lana, ‘but that doesn’t mean she gets to have Lex.’

--------------------------------------------------

“I see you are staying out of everyone’s way,” quipped Lex as he climbed the steps and saw Clark sitting on the couch in his ‘Fortress of Solitude’.

“When mom is in the kitchen, cooking for that many, it’s safer to be out of the way,” replied Clark with a grin, “even my dad stays away.”

Lex sat down on a box that was serving as a seat and sighed deeply. “What’s wrong?” asked Clark, “you don’t seem to be yourself.”

‘You have no idea,’ thought Lex. “It’s just this whole…Chloe business,” he said, hoping to get some answers. “I don’t see why everyone’s getting all upset over us being friends.”

“I don’t think it’s the friends part they have a problem with Lex.”

“Well then what?”

“People seem to think it’s more than just friendship,” said Clark. “Come on Lex you have to admit it’s a little weird. A teenage billionaire and a blue-collar worker being friends. People think she’s either just using you, or that you’re after her money.”

“That’s bullshit,” snapped Lex, “on both counts.” He wondered if that is how people would really think if, in their own reality, he and Chloe got together.

“Hey calm down; I know that. It’s just well…weird,” he said, shrugging his shoulders. “And then there is all that research she’s been doing into the meteor rocks.”

“And what is the problem with that?”

“It’s all so secretive, you don’t know if you can trust her. There have been way too many cover ups on things since she came to Smallville.”

‘Ok so all the research is still happening here,’ thought Lex. ‘I hope Chloe doesn’t stumble onto it, I don’t know if it’s such a good idea her finding out about all the research I’ve been doing. Especially if she’s living my life and everything I discovered is available to her.’

“Clark, Lex,” came Martha’s voice, “dinner is ready.”

“Let’s go,” said Clark with a smile.

--------------------------------------------------

“This is fun,” said Chloe as ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark;’ just finished. “I love that movie, and even though I know I’m probably going to start a debate with this statement, it is still the best out of the three.”

“No way Chlo,” said Lucas, “’The Last Crusade’ is so the best one.”

“Raiders,” said Chloe, throwing some popcorn at him. “Last Crusade,” replied Lucas, throwing some at her. This popcorn fight continued until one of the cinema staff came down and told them he’d throw them out if they didn’t behave themselves.

When he was out of sight, Chloe and Lucas burst out laughing. “I can just see it now,” he said when both had calmed down. “Headline in the Inquisitor, {Luthor siblings cause riot in cinema.}”

“Riot!” exclaimed Chloe. “Well slight fracas with popcorn doesn’t have the same punch to it,” replied Lucas with a smirk.

‘Shit,’ thought Chloe, ‘I forgot that the Luthors lived in the tabloid reporter’s eye. I better be careful.’

The lights began to dim, as the second movie got ready to start. “Raiders,” whispered Chloe, as the main titles appeared. “Last Crusade,’” whispered Lucas, and both laughed softly.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex was in shock. Here he was sitting around a table with Gabe Sullivan, Lana, Clark, Jonathan and Martha Kent having dinner, a moment he never dreamed would happen. On top of that, Jonathan had been laughing and joking with him since they sat down. The man had been nothing but friendly. And it was unnerving Lex. He had gotten use to Clark’s dad looking at him with distain, now having him chat away like they were friends was too freaky.

“So are you all set for your presentation to Lionel on Monday?” asked Martha.

‘What presentation?’ thought Lex, ‘ah crap.’ “Just about,” he replied. “I’m sure you’ll do fine Lex,” she said, giving him a smile.

Lex tuned out as the conversations continued around him. He was going to be giving a presentation to Lionel in a couple of days, and he hadn’t got a clue to what it was about. ‘I need to talk to Chloe and see if she can find out what it’s about.’

--------------------------------------------------

Lionel got up from his desk when he heard the laughter coming from outside his door. He opened it and was greeted with the sight of his daughter and son laughing and joking. ‘And when did this change happen?’ he thought. “I was expecting the two of you for dinner,” he said.

“I thought you weren’t going to make it back from your meeting,” said Lucas, “so Chloe and I decided to go out.”

“Should I be checking the tabloids tomorrow,” retorted Lionel.

Chloe and Lucas looked at each other and burst out laughing again. “Oh there might be an incident regarding popcorn,” she gasped between laughs.

“If you are not at each other’s throats, you are carrying on like children,” said Lionel. “I’m not sure which is worse.”

“Jesus, there is just no pleasing you is there?” said Chloe, her good mood officially gone. “You want Lucas and I to get on, and when we do you still find fault with it. What exactly do you want?”

“I want to have my children ready to take on the mantle of being a Luthor,” said Lionel.

Listening to Lionel, Chloe could understand why Lex seemed sad a lot of the time. There was just no pleasing his father, no matter what he did. “Well maybe if you acted like a father, *your* children wouldn’t feel ashamed to have Luthor as a second name,” she said. “Lucas thank you for a great evening, I hope we get to do it again,” she brushed past Lionel and headed upstairs to her room.

Lucas shook his head and headed off in the direction of the kitchen. Lionel stood in the empty hallway looking up the stairs in the direction Chloe had gone.

Ok guys, I'm not sure about this chapter, and the muse refused to budge after the second rewrite.......Fiona

There's nothing wrong with this chapter. It's great. I especially enjoy the last part when Chloe tells Lionel what he truly is. I've always felt that way too about Lionel.

Chapter Nine – A Favour

Chloe did the teenager throwing a tantrum thing when she got to her room. She stomped around, played her stereo loud for a while. And when she calmed a bit, she turned the music down and flopped back onto the bed.

“God that man is infuriating,” she muttered. “And if Lex and I don’t figure out what is going on soon I am going to shoot him myself.”

The phone rang. “What?” she said as she answered it?

“Chloe, is everything ok?” a concerned Lex said.

“No it’s not. God Lex your father is the most annoying and infuriating man in the universe.”

“Yes I had noticed Chloe,” replied Lex with a wry chuckle. “What happened this time?”

Chloe sighed and settled back on the bed. “Well first off Lucas decided to arrive early. But that turned to be ok. He really seems to be making a conscious effort to be nice to me. I’m not sure what the circumstances are surrounding his appearance in the Luthor’s lives in this reality are but he really wants to make a go of this whole sibling thing. Anyway we went out to the cinema and where gone most of the afternoon and evening. And when we got back Lionel was here. Lucas and I were laughing and I think that pissed him off. I mean you would have thought that he would be happy that we were getting on, but no, apparently laughing isn’t acceptable. He made some quip about wanting his children to be worthy of the name Luthor and I snapped back that maybe if he acted like a father *his* children might not be ashamed of the name. Then I stormed off.”

“Now Chloe, that’s not the way to behave like the dutiful daughter,” teased Lex.

“Don’t start with me Lex,” she said, “I am so not in the mood. And I am *not* Lionel Luthor’s daughter.”

Lex laughed softly.

“Oh by the way how did dinner with the Kents go?” she asked.

“Torture,” he replied, “Having Jonathan Kent be nice to me was actually quite disturbing. And also to sit around a table full of people being nice to one another, creepy.”

Chloe laughed out loud at that statement.

“And I also discovered something even more terrifying,” he said.

“Oh my god what is it?” asked Chloe, the laughter leaving her voice.

Lex took a deep breath, “Lana has a crush on me.”

Chloe was silent for a moment, and before Lex could say anything else, she burst out laughing. “It’s not funny Chloe,” he said in a serious voice, which only caused the blonde to laugh even harder. She was actually finding it hard to breathe she was laughing so much.

“Oh god Lex, that is the best news I’ve heard,” she panted between laughs.

“I am still failing to see what is so amusing about it,” he replied.

“I’m sorry,” she said, biting her lip to prevent more laughter escaping. “ But I wonder if in our real lives Lana has a crush on you. And the more I think of it the more I’m thinking she does. Getting you to go into business with her on the Talon, those cosy little chats you’ve had over coffee about poetry. It gets you thinking.”

“Ha. Ha Chloe,” said Lex.

“You mean to tell me Lex that you are not flattered that Smallville’s own princess wants you for her prince?”

“Chloe, Lana maybe be pretty, but she is also quite selfish and well…dim. She turns every conversation into one about her, and I’d say the most exciting conversation you could have with her is that she wore yellow instead of pink. And to make things even funnier for you, she is jealous of our friendship, and thinks there might be more to it.”

“Oh this just gets better and better,” said Chloe, “Lana Lang jealous of me. Well sort of me. Jealous of Chloe Luthor instead of Chloe Sullivan, but it is still me.”

“Chloe it is wall of weird material how your mind works,” laughed Lex.

“So have you remembered anything else that might explain our situation?” she asked.

“No, and I’ve been going over the day in my mind, and nothing pops out as unusual,” he said. “But back to the present, I have a favour to ask.”

“Sure what is it?”

“Apparently on Monday I’m giving a presentation to my father at the plant, and I haven’t got a clue on what it’s about. So I need you to find out what it’s about.”

“And I do this how Lex?”

“Ask Lionel.”

“Lex I can’t, that means I have to be nice to him and the man just infuriates me,” she replied.

“But Chloe I need to know what this is about, it could cause trouble for the plant and your dad if I screw it up. Please Chloe.”

It was Lex saying please that made up her mind for her. “Ok, I’ll find out for you. I will talk to him now.”

“Thank you. And maybe we can bump into each other tomorrow to talk.”

“Yes definitely I want to see you,” she replied. “I better go and talk to him.”

“Ok, and thanks again.”

“Bye Lex.” “Bye Chloe.” And both hung up the phone. “Great,” she muttered as she made her way to the bedroom door, “time to be *nice* to Lionel.”

--------------------------------------------------

Lionel was looking over production figures from the various plants when there was a knock on his office door. “Come in,” he said. “You actually knocked instead of just barging in,” he said to Chloe as she stepped in.

Chloe rolled her eyes, ‘this is not going to be easy,’ she thought. “I can rip the door of its hinges if it will make you feel better,” she snapped.

Lionel couldn’t help but smirk at her answer. If he could bottle his daughter’s snark he’d make another billion. “Is there something I can do for you Chloe, or are you just here for another round?”

“The answer is no to both questions,” she said, moving further into the room. Being around Lionel still made her nervous, but she did promise Lex. She parked herself in the seat in front of his desk. Lionel cocked an eyebrow at her as he leaned back in his own chair. “So you are here to watch me work?” he said.

“Yeah right, like my life is that boring,” she retorted.

‘She’s after something,’ thought Lionel. “What did you and Lucas get up to earlier?”

“We went to the cinema, they were showing the ‘Indiana Jones’ trilogy. So…how is the plant going?”

“The plant is going fine, Gabe Sullivan is a very able manager, and his son shows promise. Is this about Lex?”

“Jeez, I can’t even show an interest,” she muttered, getting up out of her seat. Lionel laughed and Chloe sat back down again. ‘Wow,’ she thought, ‘I didn’t think Lionel Luthor knew what a laugh was, let alone how to actually do it.’

“Chloe, the day you show an interest in the ‘crap business’ as you affectionately call it, is the day I stop using underhanded means to get business contacts.”

“What’s Lex’s presentation about on Monday?”

“Why do you want to know?”

“Because I just do?” she replied.

Lionel pursed his lips together and looked at his daughter. “Apparently young Mr Sullivan has a proposal on increasing the productivity at the plant.”

“And are you going to give him a fair chance?” she asked.

“I may not approve of your *friendship* with the young man, but like I said he shows great promise.”

“So is that Luthor speak for yes?” she said.

“Yes Chloe, I will give him a fair chance.”

“Thank you.” She replied, getting up from her seat. “Goodnight Chloe,” said Lionel as she opened the door to leave.

“Goodnight…dad.”

Chapter Ten – Trouble

After finding out what the presentation was to be about Chloe had rang Lex back, and they agreed to meet the following day. They had decided to meet somewhere other than the Talon. ‘Too many prying eyes,’ Lex had said. So they settled on a small diner just outside Smallville. Lex had told Gabe he was going to the library to work on his presentation. He had found it funny having to tell someone where he was going, and having that person actually care. Chloe had just left the mansion. Lionel was in some meeting with his lawyers and Lucas was still in bed.

As she drove *her* BMW along the roads Chloe couldn’t help think that she could get use to this. Oh not the part about Lionel being her father but the whole fast cars, designer clothes, people scared of you thing. ‘Well not forever,’ she thought, ‘but for a while it would be nice.’

Lana was due to drop by later with the books from the Talon. Chloe hadn’t decided how she was going to piss Lana off but she was sure she would come up with something. ‘It could be fun,’ she had told Lex. As she parked in front of the diner Chloe recognised her dad’s car. ‘Lex must be here already,’ she thought as she got out.

Lex’s breath caught in his throat as he saw Chloe walk in. She was wearing multi-coloured dress that reached mid-thigh and a pair of knee-high boots. The dress clung in all the right places and on anyone else it would have looked ridiculous but it just suited Chloe perfectly.

“Hey Lex,” she said, sliding into the seat opposite him.

“Can I get you anything hun?” asked the waitress who jut appeared.

“Mocha Latte please,” grinned Chloe. “I’ll have the same,” said Lex. The waitress took their order and left.

“So you never did tell me how you found out what the presentation was about?” he asked.

“Would you believe me if I told you that I just came out and asked him,” she replied.

“I would actually,” he grinned. The waitress brought their order over and then left just as quickly.

“I was trying to think of a way to covertly ask him but then I thought this is Lionel Luthor and he could probably smell a scam a mile off. So I just asked, and when he eventually told me I then asked if you would be given a fair chance.”

“What?” exclaimed Lex almost choking on his coffee.

Chloe winked at him and took a sip of her coffee. “And what did he say?” asked Lex after composing himself.

“He said that Lex Sullivan showed great promise and yes he would be given a fair chance.”

“Great,” muttered Lex, “it takes you and I switching lives for my father to realise I have *promise*.”

Chloe smiled sympathetically at him and covered his hand with her own. “Well you are just going to have to wow him at the presentation,” she stated, giving his hand a small squeeze.

Lex smiled back and was delighted she didn’t remove her hand when he started speaking again. “I’ve been looking over the plant figures and their production levels are what they were when I first arrived in Smallville. So none of the improvements I had made seem to be reflected here.”

“So you are going to put them in your proposal,” she finished for him.

“Precisely,” he grinned.

--------------------------------------------------

“Now that looks interesting,” murmured Roger Nixon as he watched Lionel Luthor’s daughter having coffee with a young man he didn’t recognise. He smiled slyly as he saw Chloe’s hand resting on Lex’s.

Lionel had managed to keep his daughter fairly well protected from the press and thought that moving her to Smallville would be even better for her privacy. Nixon smelt a story worthy of the inquisitor. The daughter of one of the richest men in the world running around with some hick from a cow town was front-page material.

“First off I need to find out who he is,” he said. He took the small digital camera out of his pocket and took a few pictures of the two of them.

He called the waitress over, paid his bill and slipped out of the diner. Figuring the beat up car parked in front of the BMW with the ‘CHLOE1’ licence plate was the mystery man’s; Nixon took a picture of the car and the licence plate. He headed off to his own car and back to the inquisitor office to do a little digging.

--------------------------------------------------

“So it was Lana who told my dad about us meeting in the Talon,” said Chloe. “Bitch,” she hissed when Lex nodded his head. “I’ve a good mind to shut the stupid coffee shop down.”

“It would probably piss her off more Chloe if you were to take a more active role in it,” replied Lex with a smirk. “From what I can gather she pretty much runs everything and you stay well out of it. But if you were to check the receipts at closing, go over the books…”

“Make sure all the health and safety regulations are up to scratch,” continued Chloe.

“In other words Chloe, get in her face.”

“Why *Mr Sullivan* you do show promise,” she smiled.

“Why *Miss Luthor* how nice of you to say so,” he replied with a smile of his own. He glanced down at her hand still on top of his. Chloe looked down as well and blushed slightly, withdrawing her hand. “No, don’t,” he said softly. Chloe rested her hand on his again.

“I’m glad you’re in this with me Lex,” she said quietly. “So am I,” he replied just as softly.

--------------------------------------------------

Sitting at a table in the very back of the diner an old man and woman watched Lex and Chloe with great interest.

When they saw Chloe return her hand to Lex’s the old woman smiled.

“The reporter is going to cause problems,” said the old man. “I know,” she replied, “but they will be fine.”

“I hope you are right my dear,” he said. “I hope you are right.”

--------------------------------------------------

Lex caught the waitress’ attention and asked for the bill. “I’ll get this Chloe,” he said, “I know I may not have the millions at the moment but you got the information for me and the least I could do is get the coffee.”

Chloe knew there was no point arguing with him. “Thanks,” she said.

As they were walking out Lex caught sight of the old couple in the back. ‘Where have I seen him before?’ he thought. He racked his brain but for the life of him couldn’t remember where he had seen the old man before. Lex shrugged his shoulders and followed Chloe out. ‘If it’s important I’ll remember,’ he told himself.

--------------------------------------------------

They had gone their separate ways when they got back to Smallville.

Chloe was snooping around the study when the housekeeper found her. “Miss Luthor, there is a Miss Lana Lang here to see you, shall I show her in?”

“Yes please Maria, thank you,” she replied. Chloe had been learning all the staff names and though she had been insisting that they call her Chloe all of them still called her ‘Miss Luthor.’

She sat in one of the chairs and waited for Lana. A moment later Maria showed her in and then left the two girls alone.

“Hi Chloe,” she said brightly, “Here are the books you wanted.” She handed them over to Chloe. “Thanks Lana,” she replied. “I’ve been thinking about taking a more *active* role in the Talon. What would you say to that?”

The brunette started stammering. “Well…why…?”

“Is that a problem for you Lana?”

‘Yes,’ screamed Lana’s mind. ‘It is very much a problem.’ “No, no of course not,” she told Chloe. “It will be great having you around more.”

Inwardly Chloe was laughing, she could hear in Lana’s voiced how much she hated the idea. “Excellent, after school tomorrow I’ll start.”

“I look forward to it,” replied Lana through gritted teeth. Her answer only made Chloe smile more.

Chapter Eleven – Rewards

‘It doesn’t matter if I’m a Sullivan or a Luthor,’ thought Chloe, ‘Algebra is still a complete waste of time.’ She allowed her gaze to wander around the classroom. All the usual people she went to school with were there. Only this time when she walked through the corridors or into a classroom there were hushed conversations or people she had never spoken too came up to her and suddenly acted like her best friend. ‘Because my name is Luthor and I have a huge bank balance,’ she had told herself.

Before heading to school she had discovered that there was no school newspaper in this reality, and she planned on changing that. She had a meeting with the principal after lunch and she was going to propose setting one up. Chloe smiled to herself when she imagined the look on Lionel's face when he was told his daughter wanted to run a school newspaper.

“Do you find something amusing about algebra Miss Luthor,” the teacher’s voice broke through her thoughts.

“No sir,” she replied, “there is absolutely *nothing* amusing about it.”

“Well then would you like to share with the rest of us what you found so amusing?”

‘Not really,’ she thought. And then an evil grin crossed her face. “I was thinking of buying the school as a present for my father,” she said, “and I don’t know… maybe turning it into a museum dedicated to the Luthor name. What do you think?”

The teacher got a little flustered, not knowing if she was joking or note. “Please turn you attention back to the lesson,” he said, turning away from her.

‘Ha,’ thought Chloe sarcastically.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex made his way through the Luthor-Corp plant towards Lionel’s office. He was confident about the content of his proposal and about delivering it. But seeing his father for the first time since this crazy mix up with Chloe was playing on his mind. While he and Lionel had never had any real father/son relationship the man was still his father. ‘Well except in this crazy reality Gabe Sullivan is my father,’ he thought.

“Lex,” a voice called out. He looked around him and saw Gabe waving at him. Lex made his way over to him.

“You all set?” he asked.

“I’m ready to go,” replied Lex with a smile.

“Good luck son,” said Gabe, “and knock him dead.”

Lex felt a warmth spread though him at Gabe’s words. That and the genuine pride the older man had in his voice. ‘I don’t think I will ever get use to having a father actually being proud of me,’ he thought.

“Thanks dad,” he said. “I better get going.”

“Good luck again son,” smiled Gabe and turned back to his work.

Lex headed off to Lionel’s office. When he got there the secretary greeted him. “Hi Lex, take a seat,” she said, “I’ll let him know you are here.”

Lex muttered thanks and sat down. He listened as the secretary told Lionel he was here and Lionel’s response that he’d be with him in five minutes.

Lex closed his eyes briefly and let himself forget all the crap that was happening around him. He focussed his attention on the task in hand. He had given hundreds of proposals, and a number of them to his father.

“Lex you can head in now,” said the secretary with a smile.

He smiled back at her and walked into Lionel’s office, closing the door behind him.

“Lex,” said Lionel, “I believe you know my son Lucas.”

‘You’d be surprised how well,’ he thought. Lex held out his hand to his *brother* and Lucas shook it. “Nice to meet you again Lex,” he said with a smile. ‘The object of Chloe’s affections,’ he thought.

“Well Lex, let’s hear what you have to say,” said Lionel. ‘A fair chance,’ ran through Lionel’s mind as he remembered his conversation with his daughter.

Lex took a deep breath and began.

--------------------------------------------------

“And I think it rather strange for a high school not to have a school paper,” continued Chloe as she tried to sell the idea to the principal. “Apart from reporting the general news within the school and the school’s sporting achievements there is always the local Smallville news. This town, for it’s size, has an inordinate amount going on. And while the local papers do report it of course don’t you think it should be written from a high school point of view as well.”

“You have put forward a very good case Miss Luthor,” said Principal Reynolds. “But are you willing to put the time and effort into running it, also what is the cost going to be to the school?”

“First off I am more than willing to give the time to it,” she said, “and as for cost, well the school already has computers and printers. Printing costs could be covered if some of the astronomical amounts of money *donated* to the sporting fraternity where spread around the school properly.”

“Miss Luthor, that money…” began Reynolds.

“Is used to increase the sporting profile of the school,” interrupted Chloe. “There is more to this school than the jock brigade.”

Reynolds smiled at her, “you are most definitely Lionel Luther’s daughter,” he said. “Ok Chloe, put together costs for me and a sample issue and we’ll see.”

“Thank you principal Reynolds,” she said with a grin. ‘I hope Lex’s presentation is going well,’ she thought.

--------------------------------------------------

“But won’t introducing shifts mean extra pay,” asked Lionel, “and the object is to increase productivity and keep the profits.”

“No, because the introduction of the shifts will lower and probably eliminate the need for overtime, which is charged at a much higher rate anyway,” said Lex. “Also not all workers are going to want to work shift and most of these don’t do overtime anyway.”

Lionel leaned back in his chair and stared at Lex. The young man’s presentation had been excellent as where his ideas. In fact if they where to implement them the profits would definitely rise. He could just hear the ‘I told you so,’ from Chloe.

“What would you say Lex if I where to put you in charge of implementing these changes?” said Lionel, “and that their success or *failure* would rest entirely on your shoulders.”

“I would say thank you Mr Luthor and that failure wasn’t an option,” replied Lex. “There is no way I would have approached you with this if I thought for a second they could fail.”

Lucas sat up in his seat at Lex’s answer, and noticed the look on his dad’s face. ‘Wow he’s really impressed the old man with that answer,’ he thought.

“Starting tomorrow Lex you will begin the implementation,” said Lionel. And only years of being a Luthor helped Lex prevent the huge grin forming on his face. He had impressed his father, and it took not being his son to do it.

--------------------------------------------------

As Chloe left the school and headed to her car her mind was full of ideas about the paper. Of course she knew exactly what it would contain but whereas in *her* reality the Torch already existed before she came to Smallville, in this reality it didn’t. So this gave her the opportunity to set it up the way she wanted.

When she reached her car Lex was there waiting for her. “I take it the presentation went well,” she said with a grin, taking in the look on his face.

“Chloe I impressed him,” said Lex, “my father was impressed with me. The only problem is that it took Lex Sullivan to do it and not Lex Luthor.”

“Hey no raining on your own parade,” she said. “Well done Lex.” And she hugged him.

Lex was surprised for a moment but then wrapped his arms around Chloe and hugged her back. They pulled back at the same time and Chloe smiled shyly at him. “I think I deserve more than a hug,” he said with a smirk. “Really,” she replied, arching an eyebrow.

“Really,” he repeated and pressed his lips to hers.

No worries Fi!

This has been great even without the smut. I think you've gotten a handle on both Lex and Chloe. They are still in character even though they are in the other's realities. They still ring true and everyone reactions to them.

I am loving this story.

But it's sad that Lex can only get recognition from his father only when he's not a Luthor...

Never mind though, he got Gabe now, a more than better substitute for Lionel.

WOOOOOH! lol, that line made me laugh so hard! tut-tut, she's only been in Lex's life for a short while and she's already abusing the Luthor name! for shame!

Chapter Twelve - More Digging

'Lex is kissing me, Lex is Kissing ME,' ran through Chloe's mind. She moved her lips against his. Lex ran his tongue over her bottom lip and she opened her mouth. With a groan Lex slipped his tongue into her mouth and deepened the kiss.

Chloe whimpered softly in her throat and tangled her tongue around his. "Oh wow," she panted when they parted. Lex rested his forehead against hers and caught his breath. When he opened his eyes he found himself looking into Chloe's slightly confused ones.

"Well friends and family think it's more than friendship between us," he said with a small smirk in answer to her unspoken question. "So I thought I'd prove them right. And it's not every day you impress your father when he's not your father."

"I think you've been hanging around me too much," replied Chloe with a grin, "you are beginning to sound like me."

Lex smiled at her and ran his hand down her cheek. "Oh I managed to convince the principal to let me get a school paper going," she said. "That ought to piss Lionel off."

"Lionel Luthor's daughter running a newspaper, not top of his list of jobs for his kids," grinned Lex.

"So because I had a good day as well I think I deserve this," she grinned as kissed him again. Chloe didn't know what had prompted Lex's first kiss and right now she didn't care. His lips felt amazing next to hers, and that thing he did with his tongue was just incredible. She pressed herself tightly against him and the kiss grew in passion.

--------------------------------------------------

"Damn it Lex, what the hell are you doing?" muttered Pete. He had left the school and was heading across to his car when he saw his friend and Chloe Luthor wrapped up in each other. He watched as the kiss deepened. Shaking his head Pete walked to his car promising himself he?d have a word with his friend later.

--------------------------------------------------

"I need to go," said a very reluctant Chloe when they parted. Lex nodded and released her. "We are still no closer to finding out what's going on."

"I know," said Lex, "maybe we need to get *together* again to do some research."

Chloe smiled at him, "I think we need to arrange that very soon."

"I'll call you later," he said as she got into her car. "I'll be waiting Lex," and with a wave she drove off.

"I think I could really like it here if Chloe and I continue to get closer," he said to himself. "Really like it."

--------------------------------------------------

"Ok Lex Sullivan," muttered Roger Nixon, "let us see who you are."

Spread out all over his desk: where the pictures he had taken of the young man and the Luthor heiress at the diner. Using the licence plate he had taken from Lex's car, Nixon had found out all he could about Lex Sullivan.

Only child, mother left when he was seven, after that he and his father moved to Smallville. Gabe, the father, had worked for Luthor-Corp for years, and after the break up of his marriage jumped at the transfer back to his hometown. Nothing much happened in the following years. Lex went to the local high school and graduated top of his class, showing great aptitude for science and economics. He left Smallville and went to college in Metropolis. His college results were excellent and once again finished top of his class, then his father had a minor heart attack as a result of an accident at the plant and Lex came back home, deferring his final year of college until Gabe was 100% well again. That was six months ago, Lex had taken a job at the plant and that?s were he continued to work. There had been a few girlfriends but nothing serious, and he seemed to have a penchant for brunettes. With most of his friends away in college themselves Lex had befriended Clark Kent and Pete Ross. Well his friendship with Clark was borne out of the fact that the younger man had saved Lex from drowning on the day he had arrived back in Smallville. All in all there was nothing really spectacular about him.

And yet when Lionel Luthor moved his daughter out of her exclusive school and put her in Smallville High she and Lex became friends almost immediately. "And I wonder how *friendly* they are," muttered Nixon as he looked at the photograph of them in the diner, Chloe's hand on Lex's.

Chloe Luthor herself was more of an enigma; her father's money and influence had worked in securing her a fairly anonymous life. Well as anonymous as the daughter of a mutli-billionaire could be. Any guys she dated tended to move in the same circles as her and couldn't be blackmailed into telling anything. They all came from rich families. And for some reason Lionel took her to Smallville. Her reports from her other school had her listed as a good student, intelligent, although she had a tendency to smart answer her teachers and didn't take being told what to do very well.

She hadn't really made any friends other than Lex since coming to Smallville; the Luthor name had already made up people's minds about her. But like her father she took it all in her stride. Clark Kent seemed to be friendly enough with her, but Nixon had discovered that the boy made friends easily. Chloe had helped Lana Lang get the Talon off the ground and there was an uneasy friendship there, while Lex's other friend Pete Ross hated the Luthor's with a passion. "My kind of guy," muttered Nixon.

"I think I need a few more pictures and preferably not as innocent as the ones I've got," he said with a smile, "and then I'll have a story. One that will make me money whether it gets printed or not."

--------------------------------------------------

"So you are really going to implement Lex"s ideas then?" asked Lucas as he and Lionel got back to the mansion.

"Lucas, I may not like or approve of his friendship with Chloe," replied Lionel, "but I am a businessman and what young Mr Sullivan has proposed makes excellent business sense."

"I like Lex, and I think he's good for Chloe," said Lucas.

"Chloe is 17, you are 19, you barely know each other, and how would you know who or what is good for her?"

"Ok you have a point, but as you said she's only 17, so let her make a mistake, let her be friends with Lex," argued Lucas. "If things don't work out, well what?"

"Lucas, I am not discussing this with you," Lionel turned away from his son and headed towards his office.

"I may not know Chloe as well as you do dad, but one of the things I've learned is that if she wants something she'll go for it. Regardless of what anybody, and that includes you, says."

Lionel entered his office and closed the door behind him, neither acknowledging nor answering Lucas.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe was still very much in a happy mood when she entered the Talon. She saw Clark at the counter talking to Lana, Pete was there too. 'At least that's the same here,' she thought to herself and made her way over.

"Hi," she said, smiling at them all.

Clark smiled and returned her hello, Lana muttered a hello, and Pete just ignored her.

"Jeez, rude much," snapped Chloe at Pete. She had only been a Luthor a couple of days and Pete's behaviour was really pissing her off, she didn?t know how Lex handled it.

Pete blinked a couple of times, staring at her. She had never actually said anything to him before. "You do know it's good manners to say hello back when someone says it to you," she added.

"Oh is that a general thing or only when a Luthor says it," snapped Pete, finding his voice.

"Oh for goodness sake change the fucking record Mr Ross. Lana I'm going to look over the books in the office if that's ok with you."

"Yeah, sure," she muttered.

"Can you drop me in a latte when you get a moment? I think the company out here might turn the milk sour." With that she walked past them and into the office, slamming the door after her.

"Thanks Pete," muttered Lana as she got Chloe's order, "way to piss the boss off."

Glad to see that your back, Fiona! I miss reading your stories.

And I love the way you mixed the original incidents of the show with your own ideas. It's a very plausible idea that's why Lex is in Smallville and a blue-collar worker. However, will he be going back to college now that Gabe is better?

I'm thinking maybe...Gabe would want Lex to go back to college because he does not want Lex and Chloe's relationship to develop further. ;)

Chapter Thirteen – Parallels

“Good evening everyone,” said a very happy Chloe as she walked into the main dining room of the mansion. Lionel and Lucas were both seated at the table. Apart from her very productive talk with Principal Reynolds and the wonderful kisses she had shared with Lex her afternoon at the Talon had been priceless.

Pete had left very quickly after she had settled herself in the office. A very nervous Lana had dropped in a coffee and then practically ran out of the room. Chloe had left the door to the office open so she could look out. And Lana, fearing for her job, barely spoke to Clark, as she made sure it looked like she was working. But the highlight for Chloe was when she asked Clark what exactly he was doing there. He didn’t work in the Talon and from what she could see hadn’t had one cup of coffee since she arrived. Clark had stammered and stuttered his way through no answer before saying goodbye and hurrying out. All in all a good day.

“And what has you in such a happy mood?” asked Lucas as she sat down. Chloe just grinned at him.

“Oh Chloe you’ll be glad to know I promoted young Mr Sullivan, he’s now going to be in charge of implementing those changes he had in his proposal,” said Lionel, looking right at her.

Chloe knew he was waiting for her to say she had already spoken to Lex and knew. “Well wasn’t that very generous of you *dad*,” she said sweetly. “And you'll be glad to know that I had a meeting with the principal today about getting a school newspaper off the ground. And he said if I can prove that it’s not going to cost the school much and give him a sample edition I could run with it. It’s that great?”

Lucas covered his mouth with his napkin to hide the huge grin that was forming, he glanced at Lionel and could that the man was losing his temper.

“Chloe you remember our conversation about this reporter business?” asked Lionel, his voice calm.

“No I don’t remember any conversation,” she replied. “What I do remember is you *telling* me to drop it.”

“Other children get into trouble with the law or drugs when they want to defy their parents, you on the other hand, decided to become a reporter.”

“This isn’t about defying you,” she exclaimed, standing up, “well maybe a little. But the point is I want to be a reporter. And for God’s sake it’s a school newspaper it’s hardly the Daily Planet or the Wall Street Journal.”

“She does have…” began Lucas. “Don’t Lucas,” said Lionel.

“Oh there’s that word again,” said Chloe, “don’t. Look I really don’t care what you think, it’s a school paper and I’m going to make a go of it. Now if you’ll excuse me I seem to have lost my appetite.”

--------------------------------------------------

When she had left the room Lucas turned to speak to Lionel, but quickly shut his mouth when he saw the look on the older man’s face. Deciding that mentioning Chloe at this moment in time would probably be very detrimental to his health Lucas tried a different approach.

“You know we really show throw a party,” he said in conversation. “Excuse me,” said Lionel; dragging his thoughts away from sending is daughter to a nunnery, preferably one with a vow of silence.

“A party, you know guests, drinks, dancing.”

“I am well aware of what a party is Lucas, my question is why?”

“Because it might be fun,” he replied, ‘and Chloe could do with one,’ he added silently to himself.

“We’ll see,” replied Lionel, getting up from his seat. He walked out of the room and headed upstairs.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex walked into the Talon and headed over to talk to Clark. “You look like you’re avoiding someone,” he quipped as he sat down.

“I am,” replied Clark, “I’m avoiding Chloe Luthor.”

“Why?”

“She was in earlier and blew off at Pete, then later she had a go at me. Poor Lana has been rushing around all afternoon. I only came back when Lana said she had left, and Pete literally came in just after me.”

Pete wandered over and joined them. “So what exactly did the both of you do to upset Chloe?” asked Lex.

“Nothing,” they both said. “Of course not, it’s all her fault for being a Luthor,” said Lex, smirking when he saw Pete and Clark look at each other.

“Oh I'll be back in a moment,” exclaimed Clark, getting up and heading over to Lana.

“What?” said Lex to Pete when he noticed him staring.

“I just want you to know that I’m only saying this because you’re my friend,” began Pete. “I saw you and Chloe earlier at the school. Kissing. Jeez Lex do you know what you are getting yourself into?”

Lex took a deep breath. “I am only going to say this once Pete…butt out.”

Pete gasped.

“I mean it,” continued Lex, “this is my life and I will kiss whomever I want. I like Chloe, a lot, and as to what I’m getting into, well that’s my decision and I will take the consequences of my actions.”

“But…” began Pete.

“I have had it with you and Lana butting into my life and you can tell Clark that if he’s next on the list to have this chat with me he can forget it.” Lex stood up to leave. “And let me just add Pete that if you and I fall out as friends it won’t be because of the Luthors, although *you* will blame them. It will be because of *your* petty behaviour.” And with that he walked away and out of the Talon.

“Ok what the hell happened?” asked Clark, having caught the end of Lex’s speech.

“I saw Lex and Chloe kissing earlier and brought it up. And he got all defensive about her,” said Pete.

Clark shook his head, “Pete, he really likes her and I…I thinks she really likes him. And ok I’m not happy about them either but Lex is an adult and he’s not going to listen to us.”

“Fine,” muttered Pete. But he wasn’t going to let the Luthors ruin his friend, no matter what Lex said.

--------------------------------------------------

“Jesus have people nothing better to do than butt into other people’s lives,” muttered Lex as he made his way to his car. What had been a very good day was now ruined. He knew Pete hated the Luthors, he had got the silent treatment from him enough times when he was Lex Luthor, but talk about going on and on about it. “He’s as bad as Lana for whining on and on.”

He got into his car and took a deep breath before starting the engine. Setting off, he drove slowly *home*. “Ok when did I start thinking of the Sullivan house as home?” he said. He smiled to himself and thought back to the meeting with Lionel earlier. He had impressed him, a fact he was still having trouble coming to terms with.

When he got to the house Gabe was home. He let himself in and found the older man asleep on the couch. ‘Gabe Sullivan wouldn’t have been a bad father to grow up with,’ he thought. He turned to leave the room when Gabe woke up.

“Lex.”

“Sorry,” apologised Lex, “I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“Not a problem,” he replied, sitting up. “So how does it feel to be heading up this implementation project son?”

“It feels good,” he replied sincerely, “I’m looking forward to it.”

“Well done Lex, you really must have impressed Mr Luthor. I am so proud of you.”

“Thanks,” muttered Lex, actually feeling a little embarrassed. “Well I’m going to work on what I need to do tomorrow.”

With a smile and a nod Gabe settled back down on the couch and Lex headed upstairs. Gabe’s words had put him in a good mood again. ‘I wonder how Chloe is getting on,’ he thought.

--------------------------------------------------

“Chloe,” said Lionel, knocking on the door. There was no answer so he knocked louder and opened the door. When he got inside he noticed she was nowhere to be seen. “Damn it Chloe, stop being so childish, and come out now?”

With a sigh of exasperation Lionel left the room and headed back downstairs.

--------------------------------------------------

It was the second noise on the window that got Lex’s attention. He went over and looked out, gasping when he saw Chloe standing on the lawn throwing stones at the window. He leaned out, “what are you doing?”

“Please Lex, I need to talk to you,” she said.

Chapter Fourteen – Deals

As soon as Lex had stepped outside Chloe wrapped her arms around his waist and buried her head in his chest. “Chloe…what’s wrong?” he asked gently, placing his own arms around her shoulders.

“I want things to go back to normal,” she muttered against his chest, ‘only in this reality would I be running to Lex Luthor for comfort,’ she thought as she held him tightly. Lex sighed, “ok what did my father do this time?”

Chloe lifted her head to look up at him, “I told him about getting the paper up and running and as you can well imagine he was so not impressed by that. I want my dad back, the one who encouraged my writing and was proud of what I did with the paper.”

Lex smiled softly at her and led her over to the small porch where they both sat down. He honestly didn’t know what to say to her; they were no nearer to finding out what actually had happened or how they go about fixing it. ‘But do you really want it fixed?’ a voice in his head echoed, a voice that had been getting progressively louder the longer they spent in this reality. Lex clamped down on that and focussed his attention on Chloe.

“He hates reporters,” he said, “and I don’t think anything is going to change that, and the fact that a member of his family wants to be one is not going to sit well.”

“But Lex, I am *not* a member of *his* family.”

“I know that Chloe, but in this reality, alternate universe, whatever it is, you are.”

Chloe sighed and glanced at *her* house. “Is my dad home?” she asked.

“Yes. He’s asleep on the couch.”

“I see that hasn’t changed here,” she smiled. “Make sure he doesn’t stay there all night it’s not good for his back.”

Lex took her hands in his, “Chloe we will figure it out, but until we do you are going to have to be patient. I think while we are looking for answers to what happened we should check out what our lives here are.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well you are now Chloe Luthor and I’m Lex Sullivan, but how parallel are our lives here as to the real ones?”

“Oh like did Clark save me here? Did you move here from Metropolis? Do I have your dodgy past?” she added with a grin.

“I don’t think Clark saved you,” he replied, “or if he did the two of you didn’t become friends out of it. I think because were are still the same ages from our own reality certain aspects of our lives will be different.”

“Ok I’ll start looking into it, at least it will give me something to do,” she said. “I’m sorry for just coming over like this.”

“Don’t be,” he said, “it is your house after all.”

Chloe let out a small laugh at that. “I don’t know how you do it Lex, how you get through every day. I think you are very brave.”

“You should probably head back before Lionel sends out a search party,” he said, slightly embarrassed at what she had said.

Chloe nodded and kissed his cheek gently. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” she said as she got into her car. Lex waited till she had driven off before heading back into the house.

--------------------------------------------------

“And why aren’t you sending out people to look for her?” demanded Lucas when Lionel had informed him that Chloe wasn’t in the mansion.

“Because she has probably gone to see the Sullivan boy and will be back,” replied Lionel. The two of them were in the main dining room; the door was ajar because if Chloe came back she would have to pass the doorway to head up the stairs to her room.

“How can you be so sure?”

Before Lionel could answer Chloe’s figure passed by the door.

“Chloe, in here now,” said Lionel. A moment passed and then she stepped in, her face fixed with a look of defiance. “Where were you?”

“Out,” she said. “Chloe…” warned Lionel.

She sighed deeply, “I went out for a drive to clear my head and calm down. Or is that another *don’t* in the Lionel Luthor guide to being a Luthor?”

“And did this *drive* include a visit to Lex?”

Out of the corner of her eye she could see Lucas mouthing, ‘say no.’ She looked directly at Lionel and said, “yes it did.”

“And would you care to explain to me why you go running to that boy every time we have a disagreement?”

‘Because he is the only one who understands,’ her mind screamed. “He’s my friend,” she told Lionel, “I can talk to him.”

“About family business, which is business that doesn’t concern him. Chloe, I think sending you here to Smallville was a mistake.”

“What are you saying?” she asked.

“I’m going to look into European boarding schools for you. I think you might benefit from attending one.”

“I am NOT going to some school in Europe,” she said.

“Chloe, you will go where I tell you to go.”

“If you try and make me I’ll…I’ll get a lawyer and apply for emancipation or something,” she said. “And I know you are going to say that who on earth is going to rule against you and maybe you are right. But I seriously doubt you’ll want *that* kind of publicity. And who would want to do business with a man that can’t even keep his own daughter?”

Lionel smirked at her, and Chloe was a little unnerved by it. “Is that a threat Chloe?”

“No, it’s a promise” she replied.

“Chloe, dad,” said Lucas, stepping between the two of them, “let’s just calm down for a minute.”

“I’m quite calm,” said Chloe. “As am I,” said Lionel.

Lucas shook his head, “have you two any idea how alike you are? It’s no wonder you argue constantly.” He laughed at the identical looks his father and sister gave him. “You are both stubborn, threatening, bull-headed, not willing to back down, trying to outdo the other, insulting…etc, etc,” he said, counting the way off on his fingers.

“Shut up Lucas,” snapped Chloe.

“I will make a deal with you Chloe,” said Lionel, “in regard to this paper business.”

“And what is this deal?” she asked warily.

“*If* Reynolds let’s you run with it,” he began, “and before you say anything I am not going to influence his decision on that. And take that ‘yeah right’ look off your face Chloe; you are not a child anymore, as you are so fond of telling me. If he lets you run with it, I will let you as long as nothing about the Luthors appears in it. And I mean *nothing* Chloe, other than edited and/or written by Chloe Luthor.”

‘Damn, a chance to report on the Luthors and I can’t,’ she thought. “And if I say no?” she asked.

“You can plot your emancipation from a boarding school in Switzerland. This is the one and only deal you are going to get in regard to this.”

Chloe sighed deeply, “Ok you have a deal,” she said. Lionel held out his hand and Chloe shook it.

“Well, now that we are all happy families again, shall I tell Chloe our dinner party plans?” said Lucas with a big grin on his face.

“If you wish,” said Lionel, “I have some calls to make.” With that he left the room. “What dinner party?” asked Chloe.

“WE are having a small dinner party here in the mansion,” said Lucas, “The Kents, Miss Lang of course, the *Sullivan’s* are all going to be invited. And it’s scheduled for this Friday evening. Isn’t that great?”

“Oh fuck,” groaned Chloe.

Love this story Fi

For some reason I'm hoping that Lionel is only trying to protect his daughter because he loves her... not cause he wants to control her... I would love to see a father/daughter relationship with these two......

anyways...I am loving this whole story

Chapter Fifteen – Flashes of the Past

The days that had followed and Chloe was still confused. Lionel had agreed to *let* her go ahead with the paper providing she adhered to his deal. Lucas then informed her that on Friday they were having a dinner party at the mansion. A dinner party that included pretty much the people who hated the Luthors the most in Smallville. And no matter how many times Chloe asked him why did this was happening he really gave her no explanation.

Jonathan Kent would be sitting down to dinner with Lionel Luthor, actually that might be worth bringing a camera along to. Lex being there with his father and brother, although not his father and brother and her dad there as Lex’s dad. Her head was beginning to hurt the more she thought about it. She wasn’t looking where she was going and suddenly bumped into someone. “Oh I am sorry,” she apologised, and then looked up to see who it was.

“It’s ok Chloe,” said a smiling Martha Kent, “no harm done.”

‘Is she still working for Lionel?’ thought Chloe. “Hi Mrs Kent,” she began, “how are you?”

“I’m fine dear,” she replied, “just getting some shopping in before heading to see your father.”

‘She does,’ thought Chloe. “Well I can give you a ride back to the mansion if you like,” she offered.

“Thank you Chloe,” said Martha. “Why don’t I meet you in the Talon, I should be finished in about thirty minutes.”

“Are you sure you don’t want any help?” asked Chloe.

“No I’ll be fine.”

“Ok Mrs Kent, see you in the Talon.” With a smile Martha headed off to finish her shopping and Chloe made her way to the Talon.

When she got there she found Lana dealing with a number of customers and over in the corner Clark was sitting by himself, staring off in to space or something. Planting a smile on her face she made her way over to him. “Hi Clark, mind if I join you?”

“Oh hi Chloe, take a seat,” he said. “So, how are you?” he asked when she had taken her seat.

‘If you had a week I’d tell you the truth,’ she thought. “I’m fine,” she replied. “Just waiting on your mom to give her a ride to the mansion.”

“We got the invitation to your dinner party this morning,” he said, “was that your idea?”

“Actually it wasn’t. It was Lucas’ idea. I know I’m not sure what he’s up to either,” she added when she saw the look on Clark’s face. “Are you and your parents going to attend?” She watched as a number of emotions crossed Clark’s face before finally settling on what she liked to call his ‘innocent farm boy’ one.

“Well I think they are, my dad, you know, he’s not too happy, but,” he stammered.

“Your mom is making him go,” she finished for him, and was rewarded with a Clark Kent patented grin. “Yeah something like that,” he said.

“So I should probably make sure my dad, Lucas and myself are wearing the family armour for the night,” she joked, cringing inwardly at calling Lionel her dad.

“I don’t think you’ll need to go that far,” he replied. He turned his gaze from her and Chloe saw that he was looking at Lana. ‘Oh for goodness sake, I think in every reality Clark Kent is going to be making cow eyes at Lana fucking Lang,’ she thought.

“So do you want me to arrange the eating arrangements so that you are sitting beside Lana?” she asked, ‘and in doing so keep her away from Lex,’ she added silently.

“There’s no point,” sighed Clark, “she’s more interested in Lex.” He dragged his eyes from the brunette and focussed once again on Chloe. “It’s so hard wanting someone who doesn’t see you as anything more than a friend. You don’t know what it’s like.”

Chloe snorted, “yeah right,” she muttered under her breath. “I wrote the book on it.”

“And Lex only had eyes for you,” continued Clark, not listening to he muttering. Chloe’s head snapped up at that comment. “Really?” she said.

“Don’t sound so innocent Chloe Luthor, you know quite well Lex hasn’t looked at another girl since meeting you. From that first moment he met you, you have been all he talks about. Granted you didn’t notice it at first, being in the hospital.”

“Yes, that’s a little fuzzy,” she said, hoping Clark would reveal more. “Well after I pulled you from the lake you passed into unconsciousness,” said Clark, “and you were pretty out of it for awhile.”

‘So Clark saved me,’ she thought, ‘although we don’t seem to have become best friends like he and Lex did.”

“Lex had been at the hospital with his dad when you were brought in, I can still remember the look on his face as you were rushed by on the bed to be seen too.”

“Why was my…I mean his dad in hospital?” asked Chloe, trying to remain calm.

“He had a mild heart attack. I had to head back home and he sat with you. I always thought it weird you didn’t know each other and he volunteered to watch you till your dad came. When you woke up you thought he had been the one to save you but he set you straight. Then Lionel arrived and Lex was ushered out. Next day I came in to see how you were, Lex was there and the two of you were chatting like old friends. And you know the rest.”

“NO I DON’T,’ her mind screamed, ‘but I know a bit more than an hour ago.’ “Yes funny how things work out,” she said. Before she could pry some more Martha entered the coffee shop. Both Clark and Chloe stood up and headed over to her. “Clark honey, can you drop these home for me?” she said, handing the grocery bags to him.

“No problem mom,” he said. “Clark, I can drop you off at the farm on my way to the mansion if you like,” offered Chloe.

“It’s ok Chloe, I’m waiting for Pete. But thanks anyway.”

“Ok,” said Chloe, “ready to go Mrs Kent?”

Martha nodded and she and Chloe left the Talon and headed to her car. “You two look real cute together,” commented Lana as she came up beside Clark.

Clark sighed, Lana had been going on and on about how cute Chloe was and that she and him would make a great couple. “Lana, even if I was interested, which I’m not, Chloe *likes* Lex, a lot, and that’s not going to change.”

Lana pouted and muttered to herself about Chloe and Lex. A thought that had been filling Clark’s mind a lot lately made its presence known again. ‘Why on earth do I like this girl so much?’ the voice spoke up, and for the first time Clark felt himself wondering the same thing.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe escorted Martha to Lionel’s office and then made her way to her room. When she got there she dialled Lex’s cell-phone number.

“Lex,” came the answer.

“Hi Lex, it’s Chloe. Listen I found out some things today.” And she proceeded to tell him about her conversation with Clark. Ok she left out what Clark had said about him always talking about her and that, but pretty much left everything else in.

“So Clark saved you,” said Lex when she had finished speaking. “I was about to call you anyway, I found out about Gabe’s heart attack today, he had a check up at the doctor. Apparently I’ve taken a year off college till he’s 100% again.”

“Is my dad ok?” asked a panicked Chloe.

“He’s fine Chloe, the doctor gave him a clean bill of health.” Lex smiled to himself as he heard Chloe’s sigh of relief.

“So did you all get the invites to the dinner party tomorrow?” asked Chloe.

“Yes we did, what the hell is that about?”

“I have no idea Lex, but it was Lucas’ idea.”

“That can’t be good,” muttered Lex. They talked for a while longer until Lex had to go. When she had hung up the phone Chloe headed over to her huge walk-in wardrobe. “I think I need something really fabulous for this party tomorrow,” she said to the rails and rails of clothes, “something to keep Lex’s eyes on me and piss Lana off.” With a smirk that belonged to a Luthor planted on her face she began rummaging through the clothes.

Chapter Sixteen – Preludes

“Jesus talk about going all out,” commented Chloe as she watched various caterers trafficking in and out of the mansion. “I thought this was just dinner.”

“Yes but it’s dinner *Luthor* style,” grinned Lucas. Chloe turned and looked pointedly at her brother. “What?” he said after a few moments.

“Why did you suggest this?” she asked.

“I thought it might fun to have a few of Smallville’s more righteous residents to come over for dinner,” he replied.

Chloe rolled he eyes, “you’re going to cause trouble aren’t you?”

“Not per se Chloe. I’m just going to see if I can *push* a few buttons and what the reactions might be like. Come on admit it, you’re itching to stir it yourself.”

“Well, maybe, just a little bit,” she admitted. “But you have to promise me one thing.”

“Don’t worry I’ll go easy on Lex, your boyfriend will have nothing to worry about,” he teased.

“He is NOT my boyfriend, he is my friend,” she stated. “So do you have a *date* for this evening?”

“I would have one if I could find anyone in Smallville worth dating,” he said. “Why do you ask?”

“Do you know Lana Lang?” asked Chloe, a plan forming in her mind. “God Chloe no, you are not setting me up with Miss pink and fluffy.”

“Please would I be that cruel,” said Chloe. “And there is no need to actually answer that,” she added when Lucas opened his mouth to comment. “What I want is for you to *pay attention* to her, you can tease her as much as your like, most of it will go right over her head anyway. You see Lana has a crush on Lex, and as his *friend* I want to protect him.”

“Of course, *protect* him. I mean it has absolutely nothing to do with the green-eyed monster.”

“I am NOT jealous,” snapped Chloe. “I know your not Chloe,” said Lucas, throwing his arm around her shoulders, “and that very slinky black number you’re donning tonight is your usual attire for these things.”

“Are you going to help me or not?” she asked irritably.

“I’ll help,” he said, with a grin. “Yes,” she exclaimed and hugged him; “you are my favourite brother.”

“I’m your only brother,” he joked hugging her back. Lionel had just exited his office and only heard the tail end of his children’s conversation and he allowed himself a small smile as he saw them hugging.

--------------------------------------------------

“I’m so excited about tonight,” gushed Lana, “dinner at the mansion.”

Lex rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the newspaper, he smiled to himself at the thought of being invited to dinner at his own house. Gabe had picked up two tuxedos yesterday, and Lana had done nothing but twitter on and on about her dress. Lex found himself wondering what Chloe would wear, especially now that she had a designer wardrobe to choose from. ‘Although she would look good in anything,’ he thought, ‘or even better, nothing.’

As the days passed in this reality Lex found himself getting more comfortable with the set up. He was finding it easier to call Gabe, *dad* and he was starting to think of the Sullivan house as home. He doubted Chloe was feeling the same, every conversation they had included some reference about getting back to their real lives.

“Lex.”

“What?” he mumbled and turned to see Gabe smiling at him.

“Oh so you are back with us, I’ve only said your name 3 times,” grinned the older man. “What I was saying was that I’ll drive if you want to have a few drinks tonight.”

‘Another first,’ thought Lex, ‘normally I wouldn’t give a second thought to driving with a few drinks on me.’ “Are you sure?” he asked.

“Positive,” replied Gabe, “anyway according to the doctor it’s probably better if I don’t.”

“Well then I will be more than happy to take you up on that offer,” said Lex with a grin.

“Well I’m going to start getting ready,” said Lana, standing up from the table. “We aren’t leaving for another four hours,” whispered Gabe when Lana had left the room. Lex just smirked at him.

--------------------------------------------------

“Why are we going again?” asked Jonathan as Martha finished adjusting his tie. “Because we were invited,” she replied, “and Lionel is my boss and I think it’s nice of them to ask us. Anyway Gabe is going to be there as well so you probably won’t even have to talk to him. Ok all done.” She patted his chest and stepped away.

“Mom, can you give me a hand with this?” asked Clark walking down the stairs.

“You can see through walls and light fires with your eyes and you still can’t tie and tie,” grinned Martha at her son.

“Well it’s not really high on my priority list,” replied Clark with a smile. He bent forward and Martha fixed his tie. “Now you both look very handsome,” she said.

“I believe Lucas is going to be here as well tonight,” said Clark, pulling at his tie and then stopping quickly when Martha glared at him.

“Great all three Luthors,” muttered Jonathan.

“You will be nice to Chloe,” ordered Martha, “whatever you may think of her father, she is a nice girl and has put up with a lot of crap since coming here.”

Clark stood wide-eyed at the word ‘crap’ coming from his mother’s mouth.

“Do I make myself clear?” she said when neither of them answered.

“Yes,” they both mumbled.

--------------------------------------------------

“Lana you look lovely,” said Gabe as the brunette came down the stairs. She smiled at him and then looked at Lex.

“You look nice,” he said. And she did, ok her pale pink dress was a little boring but it suited her.

“You both look great in your tuxes,” she said as she reached the bottom step. ‘Especially you Lex,’ she added silently.

“Well if you are ready Lana we’ll make a move,” said Gabe. She nodded and they headed out to the car.

--------------------------------------------------

Lucas let out a low whistle as Chloe descended the staircase. “Wow, you look amazing,” he said.

“You don’t think it’s too much?” she asked. She had spent a good hour in front of the mirror trying to convince herself that she looked ok.

“I think he will love it,” replied Lucas with a smile. ‘Although I’m not that comfortable with my sister showing that much skin but I’d say I’d be nursing a bloody nose if I was to tell Chloe that,’ he added to himself. Normally Chloe would have rolled her eyes at that, knowing Lucas was just teasing her about Lex, but he sounded so sincere that all she could do was smile at him.

“Lucas I need you to…” Lionel trailed off as he stepped into the hallway and saw Chloe. “Chloe, you look beautiful,” he said, giving his daughter a genuine smile. She couldn’t help but smile back at him.

“And both of you looked very well,” she said sincerely, taking in their tuxedos.

“Well good looks are obviously in the Luthor genes,” said Lucas, sighing dramatically.

“And acting modest most definitely isn’t,” retorted Chloe.

“Well we were the perfect family for about five seconds,” said Lionel, earning him a glare from both his children.

Just then a maid appeared, “apologies,” she said, “but your guests are starting to arrive.”

“Thank you Margaret,” said Chloe, earning her a smile from the maid. She had made it a point to learn all the staff’s names.

Both Lionel and Lucas held out their arms, Chloe flashed them both smile and hooked her arms through theirs. ‘Tonight is going to be one to remember,’ she thought, and all three headed out to meet the guests.

Chapter Seventeen – Conversation Stopper

Chloe stood beside Lucas and watched as Lionel and Jonathan Kent had a *conversation*. Well it wasn’t really a conversation as such, Lionel was talking to Martha and Jonathan happened to be standing there as well. Although Lionel kept directing questions and the other man who seemed to be trying very hard to keep a friendly look on his face.

“A hundred dollars Kent hits him,” whispered Lucas.

Chloe laughed and shook her head; “you really are incorrigible aren’t you?”

Lucas just grinned back at her. Lex and the others hadn’t arrived yet and Chloe guessed that as soon as her dad walked though the door Jonathan would probably relax. As it was she was feeling a little apprehensive about seeing her dad. This would be the first time since waking up in the weird reality that she had seen her ‘dad’.

As hard as he tried Clark just couldn’t keep his eyes off Chloe. She looked incredible. He had always thought her pretty but when she met him and his parents at the door he literally had to remember to breathe. She wore a black lace and silk dress, with a split at the front that reached her upper thigh. Even though he knew it was wrong he used his X-ray vision and saw that she was wearing no bra and just a tiny scrap of lace that served as panties. Suddenly all the times Lana kept directing him towards Chloe came flooding back. ‘Well Lana obviously isn’t interested in me,’ he thought, ‘maybe I should take a closer look at Chloe.’

Out of the corner of his eye Lucas spotted the intense way Clark was looking at his sister. ‘Interesting,’ he thought, ‘although I don’t think Chloe has any interest in him.’

While talking to the Kents Lionel also noticed how their son was looking at his daughter. ‘If Lex Sullivan doesn’t have a chance,’ he thought, ‘then the farm boy has even less.’

A maid appeared and announced the Gabe and the others had arrived. Chloe took a deep breath and prepared herself to see her ‘dad’. But all thoughts of Gabe flew out the window when her eyes fell on Lex. Sure she had seen him in a tux before, but there was something different about the way her looked now. His pants where just tight enough, and unlike the others Lex had decided against a bow tie, leaving the top button of his white shirt open. Their eyes locked for a second.

And Lucas watched wide-eyed as Lex literally undressed Chloe with his eyes. ‘Ok those two are *so* not sneaking off together this evening,’ he thought.

Chloe took another steadying breath and walked over to Lex. Lionel frowned slightly as he watched Chloe and Lex, glancing around the room he caught his son’s eye and motioned for him to come over.

“Hi Lex,” she said when she reached them, “you look very well.”

“And you look stunning,” he replied, taking her hand and kissing it gently. Chloe smiled at him, and then gasped softly as he ran his tongue gently over her hand out of sight of everyone else.

When he had released her hand, Chloe turned to her dad. “Mr…Mr Sullivan, you’re looking well.”

“Thank you Chloe, and I agree with my son, you look beautiful,” replied Gabe, smiling gently at her. Chloe wanted to hug her dad but managed to restrain herself and turn to Lana. “Hi Lana, you look nice,” she said.

Lana eyes widened at Chloe’s dress and at how much it probably cost. “Thanks,” she muttered, suddenly feeling rather plain and shabby in her own dress.

“Gabe, Lex,” said Lionel, striding over and shaking their hands. “Shall we head inside for dinner?”

Chloe quickly moved over and took Lex’s arm, earning them both a glare for their respective fathers. “This way,” she said brightly, and began moving towards the dining room with Lex. Lucas suddenly appeared beside Lana and held his arm out for her. “You are suppose to take it,” he said to her as she stared at it. “Oh yes, sorry,” she said, smiling and took it.

‘God Chloe owes me big time for having to spend the evening in Lana’s company,’ he thought as he escorted the brunette to the dining room.

--------------------------------------------------

They were all seated around the table. Chloe was sitting in between Lex and Clark on one side. Lionel sat at one end and Gabe at the other. On the opposite side of the table were Martha, Lucas, Lana and Jonathan. Lionel had situated Martha beside him, while Jonathan was beside Gabe at the other end. Although Chloe wasn’t aware of the way Clark was looking at her, Lex had noticed. Granted in that dress it was hard not to notice her.

Dinner was finished and people were now having dessert and coffee, various conversation where taking place. Chloe caught Lucas’ eye and she grinned at him, he looked completely bored. She was sure she had heard Lana mention her parents and boyfriend leaving her at least three times.
‘I need to rescue him soon,’ she thought. ‘Although the glares she keeps throwing Lex and I, especially me makes me glad I wore this dress. Boy Lex looks really hot tonight.’ Also Clark had been really, really attentive to her all evening. Sure it was nice but it was starting to freak her out a little. He kept staring hard at her like he was looking through her clothes it was weird.

“How weird is this?” whispered Lex. “I know,” she whispered back, “it’s just too surreal.”

“I meant what I said earlier Chloe,” he continued, “You look amazing.” And he smiled at the soft blush that coloured her features.

“God I want to kiss you,” she said, and her blush intensified. “I want to kiss you too,” he said, smiling at her. She glanced briefly around the table; no one was looking at them. “I think I might get *lost* in the mansion after dinner,” he said with a smirk. “Really,” she replied, “maybe I’ll have to come find you.”

“I’ll be counting on it,” he said and winked at her.

“I see the Ross’ didn’t accept my invitation,” said Lionel with a grin, “and they didn’t even acknowledge the invitation.”

Lex was about to open his mouth and comment when Chloe grabbed his hand. “Dad,” she said, cringing. “Yes Chloe?” said Lionel innocently. “I’m just saying its manners to let a host know if you are not going to accept their invitation.”

“I can’t believe you had the nerve to even send them an invitation,” muttered Jonathan.

Chloe rolled her eyes, “oh great here we go,” she said.

“And what does that mean young lady?” said Jonathan, turning his attention to Chloe. A sly grin crossed Lionel’s features and he turned to look at his daughter as well, actually everyone at the table was now focussed on her.

‘Ok now you’ve done it Chloe,’ she thought to herself. She felt Lex squeeze her hand and turned to look at him, he had a bemused expression on his face. This wasn’t their reality so she could pretty much say what she wanted, and she was Chloe Luthor here. And she bet that deep down back where Lex was the Luthor he would like to really let Mr Kent have it.

“Well Mr Kent, where would you like me to start?” she said with a smirk.

Chapter Eighteen – After Dinner Argument

“I would like you to start with that comment you made,” said Jonathan.

Chloe released Lex’s hand and put both of hers on the table, clasping them in front of her. “Mr Kent, do you *know* the Luthors?” she asked.

“What do you mean by that?” he asked, confusion in his voice.

“Do you know Lucas? Do you know me? Do you know my dad?”

“I know *of* you,” replied Jonathan.

“And that has been the basis of your hate for this family,” said Chloe, “pretty pathetic excuse. I mean how can you hate someone when you don’t even know them? For someone with such *high* principles Mr Kent, you really are displaying all the attributes of a…sheep, just following crowd. Forming *your* opinion on the basis of what you have heard or read about the Luthors.”

“Now listen here,” began Jonathan, “he,” pointing at Lionel.

“He’s what?” said Chloe, “he’s the devil is disguise. He’s ruined people in business deals. Come on I need more than that.”

“He has no morals and has cheated good people out of what they are entitled too.”

“He is a business man,” said Chloe rolling her eyes, “I think it’s written in the official business man’s handbook that you have to be sneaky; especially if you want to be successful. So he screwed people in deals, last time I looked it wasn’t illegal. You show me one business person that hasn’t used underhanded means to seal a deal and I’ll donate my inheritance to the society for prevention against cruelty to cows or something.”

Lex, Lionel and Lucas all laughed out at that statement. Even Gabe couldn’t prevent a chuckle and covered his mouth with his hand. Jonathan was starting to look uncomfortable.

‘God she is magnificent,’ thought Lex. ‘I bet she’s that passionate about everything she believes in. I wonder if she’ll be passionate when I make love to her. Whoa were did that thought come from?’ Slamming down on those thoughts Lex focussed on a very uncomfortable Jonathan Kent and allowed himself to enjoy the older man’s discomfort. Lex glanced quickly at Lionel as saw that the man was completely enthralled in Chloe and pride shone on his face. A wave of jealously flowed through him; he had never been able to make his father proud. It took this fucked up reality that had him Gabe Sullivan’s son to impress Lionel Luthor. And here was Chloe, with a simple argument; drawing the pride from Lionel that Lex had craved for so long.

‘My daughter,’ thought Lionel with pride as he watched her verbally run rings around Jonathan Kent.

“What about the Ross’?” blurted out Jonathan, frantically looking for the upper hand in an argument he was rapidly loosing. “They were swindled out of their land.”

“Swindled,” exclaimed Chloe, “God you make it sound like a highway robbery. The Ross’ were compensated very well. Their gripe is what was built on the land not the monetary reward they got. So Mr Kent, why do you hate the Luthors so much? Why do you put us down at every occasion and never give us a chance?”

And there they were, the very questions Lex had always wanted to ask Clark’s father.

“I think we should leave,” said Jonathan, standing up. “Martha, Clark, let’s go.”

“Never figured you for a coward Mr Kent,” said Lionel. “And I never figured you’d avoid answering a question posed by a seventeen year old.”

“I don’t have to answer to anyone,” retorted Jonathan.

“Are you jealous Mr Kent?” piped up Chloe, “jealous that Lionel is a success, able to provide for his family without struggling to make ends meet.”

“Hey that’s not fair,” said Clark, standing up, deciding it was about time he defended his father.

“Oh I was wondering when you’d start,” said Chloe, turning her gaze to Clark. “You are full of such double standards Clark, you have a holier than thou attitude that you use when it suits you.” She had to be careful. A lot of the things that had happened in her reality might not have happened here, so she would have to watch what she said.

“He saved your life,” pointed out Jonathan.

“Yeah and for that I’m grateful,” she replied, “but I’ve tried to be friends, tried to fit in and still it’s not good enough. It’s hardly *my* fault I was born a Luthor.”

“Gabe agrees with me,” said Jonathan. “Don’t drag me into your argument,” said Gabe. “And I have never agreed with you. I don’t have a problem with the Luthors and I’m not just saying that because I work for them. In all my years working for Luthor-Corp I have been treated well and with my recent illness Mr Luthor made sure I would still have a job to come back to when I was better and even hired my son.”

“I think we should leave now,” said Martha, sensing that things were spiralling out of control. “Lionel thank you for dinner. Jonathan, Clark lets go.”

The Kents made to leave the room, “see you at work tomorrow Martha,” said Lionel with a smirk. Jonathan glared at him and they left.

“So what’s for the encore?" asked Lucas with a grin.

--------------------------------------------------

“You were amazing,” said Lex as he and Chloe found themselves alone in the study. “I have always wanted to have a go at Jonathan Kent like that.

“I actually enjoyed it myself,” she replied with a grin. “Where are the others?”

“Lionel is showing Gabe his weapons collections,” replied Lex, “I think your dad not agreeing with Jonathan impressed him and he’s being all friendly. And Lucas has gone for a walk with Lana, I hope his sanity survives the encounter.”

Chloe laughed, “Poor Lucas, he might never be the same again.”

Lex moved closer and wrapped his arms around Chloe’s waist and kissed her. It started chaste enough but Chloe opened her mouth and ran her tongue along Lex’s bottom lip and it soon became passionate. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I saw you this evening,” panted Lex when they parted. “Have you any idea how sexy you look in that dress?”

Chloe blushed, “I don’t think anyone has ever called me sexy,” she said.

“That’s because they are all blind,” replied Lex, covering her mouth with his again. Chloe melted into the kiss as Lex’s tongue caressed her mouth. In this world with him no longer being a Luthor, Lex found he could let his emotions show without having to worry about letting his guard down. Here he could really let Chloe Sullivan know how he felt about her.

He slowly moved one hand from her waist, up her side and gently brushed against her breast. Chloe groaned into his mouth and he repeated the action. Chloe slipped her hands under his jacket and began running them up and down his back.

“Oh Lex,” she groaned as his hand cupped her breast and squeezed gently. “Like that?” he whispered as began placing soft kisses up and down her neck. “Yes,” she whimpered, and then moaned again as he cupped both breasts and ran his thumbs over her rapidly hardening nipples.

She groaned in protest when he removed his hands, but sighed contently when she felt him begin to pull the zipper of her dress down. Suddenly he stopped as they heard voices outside the door. “Fuck it,” he muttered and pulled the zipper back up.

“It’s our dads,” she said, her voice still thick with desire.

“I’ll be back later,” he said, “we are going to finish this. I take it you are in what was my room.”

“I guess,” Chloe nodded. “But how will…”

“Chloe I know this house better than you,” he replied with a smirk, “but if you don’t want…”

Chloe grabbed him by his collar and kissed him hard. “You better come back,” she said when they parted.

They snuck out of the study and met the others in the main hall again. “Well Lionel thanks for dinner,” said Gabe shaking his hand. Goodbyes were said and Lex winked at Chloe before leaving.

“I think Lucas really likes me,” said Lana to Lex as they walked to the car. Lex said nothing; his mind was focused on getting back in the house, and more importantly getting into Chloe’s bedroom.

When Lionel closed the main door he grabbed Chloe and hugged her tightly. “You were incredible earlier,” he said, pride in his voice. He released her and an almost embarrassed look appeared on his face, he kissed her forehead quickly and bid his children a goodnight. Chloe stood shell-shocked for a moment looking at the retreating figure of Lionel.

Lucas slung an arm around her shoulder, “You owe me big time,” he said, “I think I need to go have the inside of my head scrapped out after listening to that annoying, whiney girl all evening. And now, now she thinks I like her.”

“We can talk about what I owe you tomorrow,” said Chloe, “I’m going to bed.” She kissed her brother’s cheek and headed up to her room to wait for Lex.

This chapter is so great. It was about time somebody told Jonathan Kent of. That was brilliant.
I know the others already said that and I hate to repeat everything, but Lionel and Lucas are great in this fic. It´s a nice change that they are not the bad guys. I mean Lionel being proud and everything was almost cute. I just hope that when Chloe and Lex are back in their own reality or whatever that the relationship between Lex and his father will improve too.

Chapter Nineteen – Hesitations and Admissions

Chloe lay back on her bed. She had kicked off her shoes but had left the dress on. ‘What am I doing?’ she thought. ‘I’m lying here, on my bed, waiting for Lex. To do what? Talk, make out, or maybe do something much more intimate?’

She sighed deeply and looked up at the ceiling, and thought about Lionel’s reaction earlier. He hugged her and she could see the pride shining in his eyes. All because she had challenged Jonathan Kent. Although deep down Chloe had really enjoyed putting Clark’s dad on the spot, she really believed the man needed to be brought down and peg or two on a regular basis.

As she lay there her thoughts drifted back to kissing Lex in the study earlier. It had felt amazing, and things had really been heating up, she shivered as she remembered him slowly pulling down the zipper of her dress, only to have stopped because of the voices outside.

What was going to happen when he arrived? And how and why had things moved so quickly between them since they woke up in this crazy reality? Also it was Lex that seemed to be really moving things along.

“Maybe he won’t actually come back,” she muttered, and purposely ignored the feeling of disappointment the shot through her system at that thought.

--------------------------------------------------

‘I am going to strangle her,’ thought Lex as Lana twittered on and on about Lucas and how much he liked her. Lex knew quite well that his brother had no interest in the brunette and had spent the night teasing Lana all of which went right over her head. She had no idea Lucas was teasing her all night. He also knew that she was only mentioning it to see if he’d react. ‘She’ll get a reaction all right,’ he thought, ‘my hands around her neck squeezing the life out of her reaction.’

When they got home, Gabe went straight to bed. Lana, on the other hand, seemed to want to talk over the entire night…again. Feeling his control slipping and the murderous thoughts take over Lex politely made his excuses and went upstairs to his room. He changed out of his tux into a pair of pants and shirt.

He passed by Gabe’s room and noticed the man asleep in his bed. With a small smile he closed the door over. Lana had now gone to her own room and Lex made his way downstairs and out the door.

He drove along towards the mansion thinking back to the incredible kisses he had shared with Chloe earlier in the evening. And he allowed his mind to wander as to what would have happened had they not been disturbed. He knew things were moving fast and he found himself not caring. In this reality he wasn’t Lex Luthor, and it wouldn’t be frowned upon if he got involved with Chloe. In their own reality it was always the idea of causing damage to Chloe’s reputation or alienating her from her friends and family in their reality that had prevented him from ever acting upon his feelings for her. And then there was also the fact that she might not be as interested in him as he was in her. But her response to his kisses and touch so far had convinced him that she had feelings for him as well.

He parked the car out of sight of the mansion and made his way up to the house on foot. He was betting the security was as lax here as it was in his reality. ‘Note to self if we ever get back to normal,’ he thought, ‘give the security set up at the mansion a complete overall.’ He crept around the back and sneaked in.

--------------------------------------------------

“I guess he’s not showing up,” muttered Chloe and got up off the bed. She took off her dress and slipped a short silk robe on. Just as she was tying the sash on it there was a light knock on the door. She opened it to find Lex standing there with a smirk on his face.

“Well can I come in?” he asked. She stood back and he walked in, she closed the door and turned to face him.

“I didn’t think you were going to show up,” she said. She bent down to pick her dress up from the floor and Lex bit back a groan as the already short robe rose higher and gave a tantalising hint of the skimpy black panties she had on underneath.

With her back still to him she stood up and draped the dress over the back of a chair. Within seconds she felt Lex behind her. He slipped his arms around her waist and she sank back against his chest.

“This will go no further if that is what you want,” he whispered in her ear. “I will leave if you ask me to.”

With a sigh she turned to face him. Lex’s arms remained around her waist and Chloe rested her hands on his chest. “Honestly Lex I don’t know what I want to happen. Everything is so crazy and what’s happening between us is moving so fast. We still haven’t a clue as to how we ended up here or how to get back. And yet…” she trailed off, looking up into his eyes.

Lex smiled at her and brushed his lips against hers gently. “Do you want me to go?” he asked softly as he placed small kisses along her jaw and down her neck.

“No,” she said with a moan as he began sucking on her neck.

“Do you want me to stop?” he whispered as his hands found their way to the sash holding the robe closed.

“I…I don’t know,” she stammered. Lex smiled against her neck and untied the robe. Chloe shivered slightly as it fell open and the cool air hit her body. Lex stood back a little so he could admire her. “Do you want me to stop?” he whispered again, running a finger up and down the valley between her breasts.

“No,” she cried and crushed her lips to his. Lex’s mouth opened immediately and Chloe’s sucked his tongue into her mouth. He pulled her hard against him and rubbed his growing erection against her, causing Chloe to moan into his mouth.

“Do you know I use to dream about making love to you in this bed,” he said when they parted. “Every night after an argument with my dad I would crawl into this bed, close my eyes and think of you. You lying there before me, naked and waiting with open arms.”

“Oh Lex,” she groaned, hugging him tightly, her bare breasts pressed against his chest.

“In this crazy reality,” he continued, “I’m finding it easier to admit to myself and to you how I feel.” He slipped a hand between her legs and groaned softly when he felt the wet material. He rubbed her gently, “so what do you want Chloe?”

“*You* Lex,” she gasped, “I want you.”

Chapter Twenty – Making the Connection

“Say it again Chloe,” he whispered as he planted soft kisses on her face. “I want you Lex,” she repeated.

He captured her mouth in a kiss that screamed pure carnal lust. Chloe found herself grabbing onto his shoulders as she felt her legs give out. As his tongue completely dominated her mouth he began pushing her back against the bed. The noises she was making in her throat were driving him wild.

Chloe found herself being pushed back onto the bed and she pulled her mouth away from Lex’s. He smiled down at her, he gaze roaming over her flushed cheeks, swollen lips, her chest rising and falling as she breathed hard, her nipples standing out like points. Lex groaned as his pants became tighter. Lex never believed he would have Chloe in this position outside his dreams, and if he ever met who was responsible for fucking up his reality he’d shake their hand first before killing them.

She smiled at him and sat up, reaching her hands up to unbutton his shirt. When it was open she pushed it off his shoulders, while Lex did the same with her robe. Chloe now sat on the bed, clad in only a pair of lace panties that were getting wetter by the second. She lay back and propped herself up on her elbows, looking at Lex. He knelt down and spread her legs apart, running his hands up and down her thighs.

He leaned forward and Chloe let out a loud gasp as he ran his tongue over her inner thigh. “Oh Lex,” she moaned, spreading her legs further apart. Lex pulled himself up onto the bed beside her, “what do you want Chloe?” he asked, a hand resting on her stomach. Chloe took his hand and pushed it between her legs, “I want you to touch me,” she breathed.

Lex groaned her Chloe as his fingers came in contact with the soaked material of her panties. Chloe lifted her head and pressed her lips to his as Lex slipped his fingers under her panties and rubbed her pussy. As their tongues tangled Lex worked one finger inside her, Chloe pulled her mouth away and groaned loudly. “I think you are going to be a screamer Chloe,” he teased, sliding his finger in and out. Chloe arched her hips, trying to take his fingers deeper, “please Lex,” she pleaded.

He gave into her pleas and added a second finger, pumping them in and out. His erection throbbing in time with the rhythm he set as he watched Chloe get closer to her release. A third finger was inserted and Lex groaned at how tight she was, he rubbed her inner walls as his thumb caressed her clit. “Come for me Chloe,” he whispered. “Come for me,” and pressed flicked his thumb against her.

“LEX,” she cried out loudly and arched her back as she came. “Oh God,” she panted as Lex’s fingers continued moving inside her. Lex moaned at the thought of what her internal muscles would do to his cock when he was inside her.

He kissed her deeply and Chloe moved her hands to his pants. She undid the belt and as she was pulling the zipper down there was a knock on her door. “Yes,” she cried out and continued opening Lex’s pants, she glanced up to see him grinning at her.

“Are you ok Chloe?” Lucas asked.

“I’m…I’m fine,” she replied, “why do you ask?”

Lex kicked off his shoes and sock and shimmed out of his pants. He stood before Chloe and pulled her now drenched panties off her.

“I heard you cry out, I got worried,” said Lucas.

“Knew you were a screamer,” whispered Lex with a grin as he bent his head and began licking and sucking her nipples.

“I hit my leg against the chair,” she called out, her voice finishing in a groan. “Stop it,” she whispered to Lex. He kissed her way up to her mouth while his hands rested on her breasts.

“Well I’m fine now Lucas, so…goodnight.” Her hand found it’s way into Lex’s boxers and she stroked him gently, causing him to moan.

“Are you sure?” said Lucas.

As Chloe stroked him Lex’s hand found it’s way between her legs again and he groaned at how wet she still was. Quickly he took off his boxers and settled between her legs, Chloe spread them wide. He rubbed his up and down her opening, “oh God,” she groaned softly.

“Chloe are you sure?” Lucas asked again. Bracing himself Lex slide all the way in. “YES,” she screamed.

“All right, all right,” said Lucas, “no need to get excited.” He walked away from the door and headed to his own room.

“Oh Chloe,” gasped Lex as he buried himself inside her. She was like velvet and her muscles contracted around him as they got use to the intrusion. “Ok?” he asked softly.

“Better than ok,” she replied, and rocked her hips. Lex began a slow rhythm, sliding every inch in and out of her. “You feel incredible,” he whispered. Chloe wrapped her legs around him and held him close, “so do you.”

They shared a slow open-mouthed kiss as Lex began increasing the speed and force of his thrusts. “Christ Lex, I’m going to explode.”

“Try not to scream too loud,” he grinned, and thrusted harder into her. “Shit Chloe, I never thought of a condom.”

“It’s ok…on the pill,” she panted.

Chloe could feel it building again in her stomach her heart was thumping. She looked in to Lex’s eyes and fought to keep her own open. “Let…it…go Chloe.”

She grabbed Lex’s face and kissed him, screaming into his mouth as she came. Lex returned the favour and exploded into her. When Chloe released his mouth her let her head fall back onto the pillows. She was breathing hard and as she closed her eyes the tears fell down her cheeks.

“Oh God Chloe, I’m sorry, did I hurt you?” he wiped a tear away.

She opened her eyes and smiled at him, “no you didn’t hurt me. It was…it was just intense.”

Lex smiled and moved to roll off her. “No, stay, for a while,” she whispered.

“I know things have now completely spiralled out of control,” he began, “but I’d be a liar if I said I was sorry.”

“So would I,” she replied, “so would I.”

--------------------------------------------------

“Oh things have got very serious,” said the old man to his wife. “And they have happened sooner than I thought.”

“That’s because you didn’t believe he had real feelings for her,” replied the old woman.

“I didn’t say that. I said I didn’t believe he would ever admit them to anyone but himself, even with the switch.”

“Do you think it’s time?” she asked, “because if it goes on much longer…well you know what will happen.”

“No not yet, leave things as they are for another while. I want to see how Nixon plays out.” He patted his wife’s hand, “don’t worry it will be fine.”

--------------------------------------------------

A few hours later, as quietly as they could manage Lex and Chloe made their way down to the back door. “Is your car close?” she asked.

“It’s just parked down the road a bit,” he replied.

“I’ll se you tomorrow,” she said and kissed him. Lex wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back. After a moment he reluctantly released her. “Bye,” he whispered and left. Chloe stood at the door until she couldn’t see him anymore and then shut it.

--------------------------------------------------

“Oh yes,” said Nixon, “these will be priceless.” He snapped Lex leaving the Luthor estate and coupled with the ones of him kissing Chloe Luthor Nixon had just got his retirement package.

Chapter Twenty One – A Rat

Chloe woke the next morning feeling completely invigorated. As she lay there memories of making love to Lex flooded her mind. Whatever else had happened since waking up in this crazy reality Chloe would have never changed last night for anything. It had been incredible, even with Lucas standing outside her bedroom door while Lex was there.

She got out of bed and stretched once before heading to her wardrobe. “This is another thing I love,” she muttered to the rows and rows of clothes, “my designer wardrobe.” She rooted around a pulled out a red and black sleeveless dress that fell about mid-thigh. “Perfect with my knee-high boots,” she said and lay the dress on her bed. Whistling to herself she headed to the bathroom to take a shower.

--------------------------------------------------

“What has you so happy?” commented Gabe as Lex sat down at the table with a huge smile on his face.

“Oh life,” he said.

“I take it you enjoyed the little show last night. I like Jonathan Kent but sometimes I think the air up on his high horse is a little thin and his brain shuts down. And I have to say I was very impressed with Chloe’s arguments.”

Lex let out a laugh at Gabe’s words. “Yes she was pretty impressive all right.” And Lex managed to stifle a groan as he remembered how *impressive* she was later in her room when they made love.

“Now Lex, I wanted to talk to you about something,” said Gabe, his voice taking on a serious tone. “First off, how long do you think it will take to implement those changes of yours at the plant?”

“Shouldn’t take anymore than a couple of months providing there are no problems, which I don’t foresee anyway,” he replied. “Why do you ask?”

“Well I’m much better now and the doctors are very pleased with me. So I think you should start considering heading back to college. You only have a year left and it would be shame not to finish your studies.”

‘Damn,’ thought Lex. “Look, dad, as you said it’s only a year so I could finish that at any time. I’m enjoying working at the plant and being…home,” he said. ‘And I can’t leave Chloe,’ he added silently.

“Of course the final decision in yours Lex,” said Gabe, “but I don’t want you throwing away your education because of me. You’ve already done so much coming back to look after me while I was recovering. And I’m sure you’d rather not be still living with your dad at your age.”

“I don’t mind for the moment,” replied Lex, “and I want to see the changes fully implemented and their impact.”

“Like I said it’s ultimately your decision son, but think about it carefully.”

“I will,” said Lex.

--------------------------------------------------

“Good morning everyone,” said Chloe brightly as she entered the dining room. She took her seat beside Lionel who was currently reading the Daily Planet.

“You’re happy,” commented Lucas. “Still basking in the glow of your put down of Jonathan Kent?”

Chloe just grinned at him as she helped herself to some coffee. “I am heading to Metropolis this morning,” said Lionel, “and I won’t be back till Sunday evening. I’m trusting that the two of you can stay out of trouble until then.”

Chloe rolled her eyes at him. “Well we’re not promising anything,” grinned Lucas, “but as Luthors, Chloe and I have reputations to live up to.”

“Just don’t get arrested,” said Lionel, his tone half-serious.

“Now there is a challenge if I ever heard one,” said Chloe with a mischievous grin.

“Chloe, Lucas,” warned Lionel.

“We are kidding,” said Lucas, “aren’t you Chloe?”

“Of course,” she said innocently, batting her eyelashes for effect.

“God save me from Smart Alec children,” said Lionel, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at them. He watched as they shared a look. He didn’t know what had happened in the last week or so but whatever it was it had resulted in his children getting on much better than they had been. And for that he was grateful.

“Mr Luthor,” said a maid, “your transport is here.”

“Thank you,” said Lionel standing up. “I’ll see you both on Sunday and behave.”

“Yeah, yeah,” they both muttered. As he walked past them Lionel finally allowed himself to roll his eyes. When he had left the room Lucas and Chloe breathed sighs of relief.

“So free mansion for the weekend,” she joked, earning a grin from Lucas.

“How’s your leg?” he asked. Chloe threw him a baffled look. “Your leg,” he repeated, “the leg you hit last night that resulted in you crying out. How is it?”

“Oh that leg,” she said, nodding her head, “oh it’s fine. Not a mark.”

“That’s good,” he said getting up from the table. “Although you might want to do something about that world record size hickey on your neck.”

Chloe jumped up and ran over to the mirror, and although it wasn’t world record size, there was a very noticeable mark on her neck. She glared at Lucas as he left, laughing all the way.

--------------------------------------------------

“Oh these are too fucking perfect,” said Roger Nixon as he looked over the developed photographs he had taken the night before. There where some nice shots of Lex heading out of the Luthor estate. And there were some very nice shots of him kissing Chloe Luthor. Although kissing each other would be a better description.

“Boy Lionel will be so pissed if he gets to see these.”

After making a few copies of them he put them in envelopes and left the offices of the Inquisitor, with a very specific destination in mind.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe tried covering up the hickey with make up but it wasn’t working and in the process she ruined her dress. So she changed into a short green skirt and matching high neck top.

“It will have to do,” she said to her reflection. She left her room and headed back downstairs.

“Ah yes, that’s much better,” smirked Lucas, “that covers it right up.”

“Shut up Lucas,” she said. “You are so not funny.”

Man Lex must have a mouth like a vacuum,” he commented.

‘You have no idea,’ she thought. “Go away now Lucas before I hurt you bad. Bad in the sense that you won’t be fathering any grandchildren for dear old dad.”

“Whatever,” he sang and headed off to play pool.

“Miss Luthor, there is a phone call for you,” a maid said.

“Thanks Kate, I’ll take it in the study.” She made her way in there and picked up the phone. “Hello.”

“Hey Chloe.”

“Lex,” she said, a huge smile forming on her face. “Guess what Lionel’s out of town till Sunday evening.”

“Is that an invitation?”

“You better believe it is, actually I have a bone to pick with you. I have a scarily big hickey on my neck.”

“So I take it you want me to come over so you can return the favour,” he said, his voice low and husky.

“Oh yeah very much so. Leave it a few hours I got to get rid of Lucas first,” she said.

“You could probably bury him in the wine cellar,” he joked.

“I’ll keep that in mind. See you later.”

“See you later Chloe.” And both hung up.

“Miss Luthor I tried to stop him.” Chloe looked up the see a man she vaguely recognised waltz into the study.

“It’s ok Kate, you can go.” Chloe turned to the man. “Do I know you?”

“My name is Roger Nixon,” he said.

Chloe gasped, ‘that toad from the Inquisitor.’ “Is there something I can do for you Mr Nixon?”

“Oh yeah,” he said and handed an envelope over to her. “I’ll call back to tomorrow to discuss those.” And with that he left her alone. Chloe stood looking at the envelope for a moment and then tore it open.

“Oh shit,” she exclaimed as pictures of she and Lex kissing fell to the ground. “Oh shit.”

Chapter Twenty Two – Alliances

It was at least five minutes before Chloe got over the shock of seeing both Nixon and the pictures. She bent down and picked the ones that had fallen from the ground and stuffed them back into the envelope.

“Oh God, oh God, oh God,” she muttered. “How the fuck did he get these? Well obviously he was hovering around the grounds last night,” she answered herself. “What am I going to do?” She paced around the room for a while trying to decide what to do. “I have to tell Lex, he’s dealt with this kind of thing before, and he should know what to do.”

“Who should know what to do what?” asked Lucas as he entered the room.

Chloe spun around and hid the envelope behind her back. “Do you normally eavesdrop on people’s conversations?” she snapped.

“Relax Chloe, I was walking in when I heard your last statement,” he said, wondering why she seemed jumpy. He then noticed her hands behind her back and what looked like a brown envelope sticking out.

“Was there something that you wanted?” she asked, trying to keep her voice even.

“No not really, just seeing if you wanted to head into town,” he said.

“Sorry Lucas but I have something to do,” she said and made to walk past him. Lucas reached out and grabbed the envelope.

“Give that back,” she shouted, trying to get it from him. Lucas tore it open and looked at the photographs. “What the hell is this about?” He looked up and saw that Chloe was as white as a ghost and there was a hint of tears in her eyes. “Chloe,” he whispered, “what’s going on?”

She took a deep shuddering breath and then launched into it, “Roger Nixon, he’s a reporter, and I use the term reporter very loosely where he is concerned, with the Inquisitor newspaper, and again use the term newspaper loosely when talking about that rag. He came to see me earlier and gave me that envelope with those pictures in it. He said he’d be back tomorrow to discuss them. What does he mean discuss them? Is he talking blackmail? What?”

Lucas looked down at the picture in his hand; it was one of Lex and Chloe kissing rather passionately. “When did this happen?” he asked holding the picture up to her.

She blushed slightly, “last night,” she mumbled.

“Last night,” exclaimed Lucas, “after the party, you mean he came back. Was he in your room with you when I knocked?”

Chloe nodded and blushed a little redder.

“Ew nasty mental image,” he said, as visions of Lex and his sister having sex filled his mind. “I think I’m scared for life.”

Chloe rolled her eyes, “you are a Luthor Lucas, and of course you are scared for life it’s in the genes.”

Lucas smiled at her answer although he still wasn’t entirely comfortable at the thought of his sister having sex. ‘I think I’ll be having a few words with Lex Sullivan in my capacity as the big brother,’ he thought.

“Lucas, what am I going to do?” she asked softly.

Lucas moved over to her and hugged her close, “don’t worry we’ll sort something out, preferably without involving the old man.”

Chloe hugged him back. “Lex will be over soon, I think…I think we should tell him as well.”

“If you want to, then we will,” replied Lucas, he pulled back a kissed her forehead.

“Thanks,” she whispered.

“Hey no problem, what are big brothers for?” he said with a small smile.

“I mean it Lucas, thanks for being so understanding,” she said again.

“Us Luthors have to stick together, and in this case us Luthors and one Sullivan. Either way Nixon is not going to get away with this.”

--------------------------------------------------

As he drove to meet Chloe, Lex thought about calling in to see Clark. He wondered how he felt after seeing his father get shot down repeatedly by Chloe yesterday evening.

Lex had always wanted to confront Jonathan Kent like that, but because of his friendship with Clark, he put up with the constant put downs. But in this reality Clark and Chloe weren’t very close as friends so she had no qualms about saying what she wanted.

As he got closer to the Kent farm Lex decided he would call in on Clark on his way back. At the moment seeing Chloe was far more appealing, especially if they ended up in bed like they did last night.

Lex hoped she didn’t want to talk about getting back to their real lives. Because deep down although he would never say it to her or to anyone; Lex was really beginning to like this reality. He was under none of the pressures he used to be under, he liked Gabe as a father, and he and Chloe were involved on a level he dreamed would happen.

“You need to stop thinking like that,” he muttered to himself as he drove along. “You can’t get comfortable here.”

He clamped down on those thoughts as he turned into the Luthor estate and drove up to the main door.

--------------------------------------------------

“I mean it Chloe we could do it,” said Lucas, “no one would ever miss him.”

Chloe rolled her eyes, “Lucas, for the tenth time, we are NOT killing Roger Nixon and burying him in the wine cellar. I know it does seem very, very tempting but we are not doing it. Ok?”

“You’re no fun,” sulked Lucas. “Stop acting five,” she Chloe with a grin. Since getting the photographs Lucas had been absolutely brilliant in getting her sprits up. In between the serious stuff of how to deal with Nixon, he had made sure to keep her laughing.

‘I really wish Lucas was my brother,’ she thought. ‘When we get back to our real life I’m going to tell Lex to get to know his brother.’

“Sorry to disturb the both of you,” sad the housekeeper. “But Lex Sullivan is here to see you Miss Luthor.”

“Thanks,” said Chloe with a smile, “you can show him in.”

With a nod the housekeeper left. “Try to keep your hands off each other till we figure this out,” whispered Lucas, his tone teasing.

“I’ll try,” she replied, “but I’m not promising anything.”

The door opened and Lex stepped in, his smile fell a little when he saw Lucas in the room as well. Chloe crossed over to him and kissed him gently. “What’s going on?” he whispered into her ear.

Chloe took his hand and led him over to the couch. “Lucas,” he said as way of a greeting.

“Hey Lex,” replied Lucas. “And by the way we will be having a little chat later,” he whispered to Lex as Chloe was collecting the envelope from the table.

Lex stared at him with a look of complete confusion on his face, but before he could reply Chloe came back over and sat down beside him. “Now Lex, just remember where we are,” said Chloe as she handed him the envelope.

Lex opened the envelope and took the photographs out. As he looked through them he could feel his anger and control slipping, and he got to the ones of he and Chloe kissing. “Ok what the FUCK is going on?”

“Calm down,” he exclaimed, “what is that bastard still doing a…” He stopped himself from saying alive, when Chloe squeezed his arm hard. He looked at her and she had a ‘be careful what you say’ look about her. Lex took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself down.

“I apologise,” he said after a moment, “I didn’t mean to go off like that.”

“It’s ok,” said Lucas, a sympathetic look on his face, “it is quite understandable to react like you did. But our immediate concern is what are we going to do about it? I’m assuming its money that the rat is after.”

“Maybe, but do you honestly think he’s going to hand over the photographs and all the negatives once we give him what he wants?” asked Lex.

“No not really,” sighed Lucas, “he’ll just keep looking for more and more money.”

“So what are we supposed to do?” asked Chloe. ‘I mean if anyone can figure out how to handle a sleaze like Nixon it will be Lex,’ she thought.

“I’m going for the killing him and hiding him in the cellar option,” said Lex, his tone only half-joking.

“See Lex that was my suggestion but Chloe wouldn’t go for it,” replied Lucas, smirking at his sister.

“We are not killing him,” said Chloe, “I don’t care if the two of you think it’s the best idea, forget about it, because it is not going to happen. We are just going to have to come with something else.”

“Spoilsport,” muttered Lucas, causing Lex to grin. “Chloe why don’t you organise some coffee for us, Lex and I will wait here?”

Chloe glanced at Lex and then stood up. “Ok,” she said, giving Lucas a funny look. “I’ll be back soon.”

When she had left the room, Lucas turned his attention to the man on the couch. “Now I’m not going to give you a lecture or anything like that,” he began, “I mean you are actually older than me. But Chloe is my little sister, although she would probably kill me for saying that, and I love her and I will not let anything or anybody hurt her that includes you as well Lex. Now I know the two of you have slept together and I’m not judging you. But I will kill you if you hurt her. I like you Lex and I think you care about her a lot, but like I said I will kill you if you cause her any pain. I hope we understand each other.”

Lex managed to cover up the smirk that was about to grace his features. He could tell Lucas was completely serious and that Chloe meant a lot to him. ‘When things get back to normal I am going to make sure Lucas is included in my life, I think he and I could really be close brothers,’ he thought.

“I understand everything you a re saying and believe me when I say that the last thing I would ever do is hurt Chloe. She means too much to me.”

Lucas held out his hand and Lex shook it “Well now that we have sorted that out, we need to concentrate on Roger Nixon,” said Lucas.

“Have you two finished your little male-bonding thing,” said Chloe as she walked back into the room. “Oh please, the testosterone levels where at maximum,” she added to the looks that gave her. “So are we all friends now?”

The housekeeper arriving with the coffee saved both from answering her. When the woman had left they turned their attention back to the matter of Roger Nixon.

--------------------------------------------------

A few hours later they were still no closer to a solution, and deep down Chloe was beginning to think that killing the man was going to be their only option.

“I might have an idea,” spoke up Lex. “So just hear me out before making any comments.”

Both Chloe and Lucas turned their attention to fully to Lex. “What if we play Nixon at his own game?” he began.

“Ok but you’re the one who gets to take pictures of him and his girlfriend I really don’t think I could handle that,” quipped Lucas.

“Shut up Lucas,” said both Lex and Chloe at the same time. “Go on Lex,” she said.

“That’s not what I meant. What I mean is we should go to him with the chance of a bigger story. And I’m thinking an exclusive with Lex Sullivan about his relationship with Chloe Luthor could be the big story.”

“So you are going to visit Roger Nixon and tell him that you’ll give him the insight into your relationship with my sister,” said Lucas. “I don’t know about this.”

“No Lucas it’s perfect,” said Chloe. “Think about it, Nixon will see this as the jackpot. A few photos might make him some money whether we give it to him or he sells them. The photos aren’t that scandalous. But Lex saying he’ll tell all would be the big pay out as far as he’s concerned. With this he’d figure Lionel would get involved in the pay off and if not, think of the money he’d get from other papers.”

“And if I tell him I can get much more intimate photos...” said Lex.

“He’ll fall hook, line and sinker,” finished Lucas. “I see what you mean. That plan just might work. But how are you going to approach him about this?”

“I’ll visit his offices and tell him Chloe came crying to me with the photos and that he’s fucking up my plans,” said Lex with a smirk.

“What plans?” asked Chloe.

“My plans to get as much money as I can out of the Luthors. That I’m just using you and all I’m after is your money,” he said.

“Wow,” said Lucas, “that’s actually a pretty brilliant plan. Very sneaky Lex, we might make a Luthor out of you yet.” Both Chloe and Lex burst out laughing at that statement.

“Well Nixon said he would call back tomorrow to discuss the photos,” said Chloe, “so you’d need to go see him very soon.”

“I’ll be back in a moment,” said Lucas and left the room.

Lex took Chloe’s hands in his, “you do know this is all a ruse Chloe, and anything I say to Nixon is just so we can get rid of him.”

“I know Lex,” she said. They stared at each other for a moment and Lex lowered his head so their mouths met. Chloe opened her mouth immediately and Lex slid his tongue in to tangle with hers. They wrapped their arms around each other. “That’s what I had planned on doing all afternoon,” he said when they parted. “So did I,” replied Chloe, and kissed him gently.

Their lips were still locked when Lucas entered the room. Rolling his eyes he cleared his throat loudly. Chloe pulled back, a slight blush on her cheeks, but Lex left his arms around her.

“There is a bar just outside town called the Anvil, apparently Nixon can be found there every night,” said Lucas. “I’d say you’ll have the perfect opportunity to *talk* to him there.”

“Thanks Lucas,” said Lex, “I guess I’m heading to the Anvil for a drink tonight.”

You really make Lucas.. loveable  I must admit, I never really liked him before, but you've made him my kind of guy  Great chapter, great fic.

I don't think they will have to kill Nixon even if something goes wrong. I think Lionel will take care of it just fine ;)

Chapter Twenty Four – The Bait

“Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you?” said Lucas. “I can be discreet when I have too.”

Lex let out a small laugh, “it’s ok, thanks for offering though, but I think it would be better if I go there alone.”

“Yeah well be careful Lex,” he said, “cause I think Chloe will kill me if anything happens to you.”

“Anything happen to whom?” asked Chloe as she joined them in the hallway.

“Nothing,” muttered both men.

Chloe walked over to Lex and wrapped her arms around his waist, “be careful,” she whispered.

“I will,” he said and placed his hand under her chin. He tipped her head up and lowered his own so their lips met. Chloe moved her hands up his chest and wrapped them around his neck as the kiss deepened. Lucas shifted from one foot the other as he watched his sister and Lex involved in a very heated kiss.

“Guys,” he said. “Guys. Cut it out.”

Lex released Chloe’s mouth and smirked at Lucas. “I’ll call you later,” he said and brushed her lips with his again. With that he left and headed to his car.

“He’ll be fine,” said Lucas, coming up to stand beside her. Chloe nodded and watched as Lex's car drove off.

--------------------------------------------------

After leaving Chloe, Lex headed home to change. Thankfully no one was there. He left a note for Gabe say he was meeting an old college friend for a drink and would be back later. It felt kind of weird letting someone know where he was going to be, but he had learned in his time here that Gabe worried about him. And Lex found that comforting, the only time Lionel ever cared was when it might involve a scandal.

He got back into his car and headed off towards the bar in question. As he drove along he couldn’t help but think about his *conversation* with Lucas, and a smile graced his features. He would have never thought his brother would show that kind of concern for someone. But in this reality Lucas really cared for his sister. Lex reaffirmed his promise to himself to really get to know Lucas better when they got back to their own reality.

About two miles outside of Smallville Lex came across the Anvil bar. It didn’t look too friendly. “The perfect place for a rat like Nixon,” he muttered as he parked his car. He made his way inside trying to look as inconspicuous as a 22-year-old bald man could. He glanced around and noticed there was no sign of Nixon. After ordering himself a drink he took a booth in the corner so he could watch the door and see everybody who walked in.

Lex was halfway through his second drink and about ready to head home when Roger Nixon walked into the bar. He watched as the man made his way to the counter and ordered a drink. Lex made sure to keep his eyes on the man as he looked around. He bit back a smirk as Nixon’s eyes widened when he saw him.

‘Here it goes,’ thought Lex, and stood up, walking over to the counter.

“Roger Nixon,” he said, “my name is Lex Sullivan, although you already know that. I think you and I should have a few words.”

‘Shit,’ thought Nixon. He glanced around the room to see if there was a quick way to escape.

“Well Mr Nixon,” said Lex, “shall we talk?” He held his hand out in the direction of the booth he had been sitting in. “Either walk over to the booth now,” whispered Lex, “or I will start making a scene.”

Nixon picked his drink up from the bar and walked over with Lex following close behind him. He sat down and Lex sat opposite him. “Now I am assuming I don’t need to go into the details of why we are having this little chat, because if I do then you are a lot more stupid than I thought.”

“You don’t scare me Sullivan,” said Nixon, “what could you possibly do to me?”

“Don’t push me Nixon, you have fucked up my carefully laid out plans with your little get rich quick scheme. I have put too much time and effort into making this work to have some insect ruin it for me.”

“Plan, what plan?” asked a very confused Nixon, “what are you talking about?”

Lex let out a very irritated sigh. “Do you honestly think you are going to make any *real* money with a few pictures of me kissing Chloe Luthor? Even if she doesn’t pay you, the tabloids aren’t going to give you that much and it will all die down in a week or so. And on top of that Lionel Luthor will probably organise for you to have a very nasty accident.”

“You aren’t making any sense,” said Nixon and made a move to get up. Lex grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him down. “You have temporarily messed up my plan to make millions, so sit back down, NOW.”

“Millions,” gasped Nixon.

“Yes millions Mr Nixon,” said Lex with a smirk, “why do you think I’m involved with her anyway?”

“So you’re using her, you after her money.”

“Give the man a cigar,” replied a sarcastic Lex. “And your little visit with those pathetic photographs have made the lovely Miss Luthor a little nervous.”

Nixon leaned back in his seat; he would have never guessed that the Sullivan boy was using her. ‘Damn, I need to get in on this deal,’ he thought.

Lex watched as the dollar signs lit up in the other man’s eyes and he could practically hear the wheels turning in his head as he tried to figure out how to get in on Lex’s deal ‘Come on Roger,’ thought Lex, ‘take the bait, you know you want too.’

“Ok Mr Sullivan, I will forget about the pictures if I get the exclusive of whatever it is you are going to do. I want in on this deal,” he said.

‘Hook, line and sinker,’ thought Lex. “Fine Mr Nixon, but you are in on this deal under *my* terms, which means you do as I say. We make the move when I am ready. And just remember we are talking millions here not the pathetic sum you might have got for the pictures.”

“You are really quite devious aren’t you,” said Nixon with a hint of admiration. “And stringing the girl along is perfect, although she is a cute one alright. So tell me, have you had a…taste…yet?”

“None of your business,” snapped Lex, “and as for being devious, it’s all about survival, I’m not spending the rest of my life in this fucking town.”

“Ok, ok, we have a deal,” said Nixon and held out his hand. Lex shook it and fought the urge to wipe his hand afterwards.

“I’ll be in contact with you soon,” he said, “when Chloe has calmed down about the photographs. I’ll tell her I met with you and talked you out of publishing them.”

“Don’t make me wait too long Sullivan, I am not a patient man.”

“Of course,” said Lex and stood up. “Like I said I’ll be in touch.” He left the bar and headed for his car. “Well that has bought us some time,” he murmured as he started the car.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe tossed and turned in her bed. It was 3.00am and there had been no word from Lex. She was beginning to get worried.

“This is ridiculous,” she muttered, “how am I supposed to get asleep when I don’t know where Lex is?”

“I’m here,” a voice close to her said.

She let out a scream and switched on the light to see a smiling Lex sitting on her bed.

“You, you,” she panted, “How the hell did you get in here? You nearly gave me a heart attack.”

“I told you I know this house better than you,” he replied.

“So what happened?” she asked, “Did Nixon go for it?”

Lex allowed his gaze to travel over her. She was wearing a small cami top and matching shorts. Chloe could feel his gaze on her and nipples began to harden. She watched as Lex’s eyes widened.

“Lex,” she said, “did Nixon go for it?”

“Later,” he murmured, moving his body over hers, “later,” he said again before covering her mouth with his.

Chapter Twenty Five – A Reward

As soon as Lex began kissing her all the thoughts of what happened with Nixon vanished from Chloe’s mind. ‘God I could kiss this man forever,’ she thought as his tongue skimmed over the roof of her mouth before tangling with her own.

Chloe lay back on the bed taking Lex with her. She spread her legs and he settled between them. With the kiss growing in passion, Lex hooked one of her legs high around his waist, and he groaned as he felt the heat coming from her core. Finally when the need for oxygen became too great, they released each other’s mouths.

Lex gently ground his pants covered erection against her and Chloe moaned loudly. “Is Lucas going to come running again?” he asked softly as his hands began pushing the straps of her cami off her shoulders.

“No,” she replied, “his room is far away and I’m not *that* loud.” She began unbuttoning his shirt. Lex sat up as she pushed it off his shoulders, while Lex pulled her top down around her waist. He cupped her breasts in his hands, testing their weight.

As he bent his head down to them, Chloe pushed him till he fell on his back and she straddled his waist. “I’ve always admired a woman who takes control,” he smirked.

Chloe smiled back at him and ran her hands up and down his chest. She then took one of his hands and brought it to her mouth, she watched his eyes darken as she took one of his fingers in her mouth and began sucking on it gently. She could feel him getting harder beneath her. Lex groaned as he imagined those incredible lips wrapped around his cock.

Chloe dropped his hand and unbuttoned his pants. Lex lifted his hips a little and she pulled them and his boxers down. He kicked off his shoes and Chloe pulled the clothes from him. She wrapped her hand around his cock and began stroking gently; she leaned forward, licking her lips.

“You...you don’t have too,” he groaned, although more than anything he wanted her to.

She grinned at him briefly and then took him slowly into her mouth. “Oh fuck,” he cried out as he warm wet mouth surrounded him. He fought the urge to thrust deep into her throat. Chloe began running her tongue up and down his cock, licking it like a lollipop. Her eyes locked on his as she again began taking him in her mouth. As she felt him hit the back of her throat, Chloe fought the urge to gag. Relaxing her throat she took him deeper, silently thanking the Internet Gods and her own curiosity on the subject for being able to do this.

Lex’s eyes widened as she deep throated him. “Chloe,” he moaned loudly as she began bobbing her head up and down. He rested a hand on her head, running his fingers through her silky blonde hair. He tugged her hair gently and she lifted her head.

“I want to come inside you,” he panted. Chloe crawled up his body and kissed him. Lex’s hands made light work of her shorts and he slid two fingers inside her. She was so wet they slid in easily and began pumping them in and out slowly.

“I want to be on top,” she murmured against his lips. Lex nodded and she positioned herself over him. Chloe slowly lowered herself down, feeling her pussy being stretched as Lex filled her. “Oh God,” she groaned as she sank down all the way.

She sat up and looked down at Lex. “So Mr *Sullivan* how did things go with Nixon?” she asked, moving her hips slowly.

“Well Miss *Luthor* he fell for it,” he replied, thrusting up slightly and smirking at her groan. “I told him I was just using you to get at your money.”

Chloe began moving faster on him, “well I’m just using you for sex,” she groaned. Lex watched as her breasts bounced as she rode him faster and reached up to cup them, rolling her hard nipples between his fingers.

“Chloe you can use me for sex anytime you want,” he gasped, as she tightened her inner muscles around him. Chloe moved harder and faster, groaning at the thought of Lex Luthor as her personal sex slave.

She grabbed his hand again and interlaced their fingers. She brought the joined hands down between her legs and using her and Lex’s fingers began rubbing her swollen clit.

“Oh god Chloe,” he moaned as he watched both set of fingers caress the bundle of nerves. “CHLOE,” he cried out as he came. As Chloe felt him swell and then the hot flow inside her she cried out his name and gave into her own orgasm

She collapsed on top of him as she tried to catch her breath. “My personal sex slave,” she muttered when her breathing got back to normal. “Now there is a job I wouldn’t mind doing,” he replied.

Chloe laughed softly and rolled off him. They got under the cover and Lex pulled her close to him, wrapping his arms around her. “Will you stay the night?” she asked, resting her head on his chest.

“You never have to ask,” he replied, he kissed her head softly, and they fell asleep.

--------------------------------------------------

“They have pretty much sorted out the Nixon problem my dear,” said the old woman to her husband. “So I think it is time to send them back.”

“Wasn’t she magnificent at the dinner,” replied her husband, ignoring her statement. “Mr Kent so deserved that. Lionel is so proud of her. Gabe is proud of Lex and the poor boy doesn’t know what to make of it. And they are together, as it should be.”

“Yes, yes and yes to all of that,” she said, “it’s wonderful. So are we ready to send them back?”

“No,” he said, “I am not ready for them to go back.”

“But it will get harder and harder to send them back the longer we leave it. You know what happened the last time.”

“Yes I remember what happened, and Chloe and Lex will be fine. We will leave it a little longer and that is my final word on the subject for the moment.”

His wife shook her head slowly, “I hope you know what you are doing,” she muttered, “I really do. Because a lot of lives will be ruined if you are wrong.”

--------------------------------------------------

Lucas knocked softly on Chloe’s bedroom door. He wanted to see if she had heard from Lex, he was dying to know how things went with Nixon. He knocked again, this time harder. “Jeez Chloe, I’ve never met anyone who can sleep as late as you,” he muttered as he opened the door.

“Rise and…” his voice trailed off as he saw his sister and Lex Sullivan wrapped around each other in her bed. He glanced around the room and could see their clothes strewn over the floor. Lucas clenched his hands into fists. He knew that his sister had started having sex with Lex but an almost uncontrollable urge to punch Lex welled up inside him.

He liked Lex, a lot and their conversation earlier convinced Lucas that the older man really cared for Chloe, but she was his little sister, and she was having sex. And Lucas was having a hard time dealing with now that he was presented with the proof. He took a couple of deep calming breaths and remembered his conversation with Lex earlier before he headed off to meet Nixon.

With a sigh he backed out of the room and closed the door, neither person in the bed knowing he had even been there. “We all talk later,” said Lucas to himself and headed downstairs to see if Lionel had called.

Chapter Twenty Six – Home Life

Chloe noticed a certain tension surrounding Lucas when they all sat down to discuss what Lex had said to Nixon. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was but for some reason Lucas was very blunt with Lex.

“So you are sure he’s not going to do anything for the photographs?” said Lucas for about the fifth time.

Lex barely managed to stop himself from rolling his eyes. Since they had got up Lucas was acting like a real asshole. “Yes,” he said tightly. “Nixon isn’t going to do anything with them. He’s going to call today to say I had words with him and he has decided to forget about them. Instead he’s going to wait for me to come to him with the real story.”

“So he believes you are cutting him in on the *plan* you have,” said Chloe.

“Exactly and he thinks he’s going to make millions from it. He just couldn’t refuse,” said Lex with a smirk.

“This is all very convenient,” said Lucas, causing Lex and Chloe to look at him. “What does that mean?” asked Chloe.

“Well you and Lex start getting really hot and heavy and all of a sudden Roger Nixon turns up,” said Lucas.

“Lucas,” exclaimed Chloe, “you better not be getting at what I think you are getting at.”

“Come on Chloe think about it,” said Lucas.

“Just what is your problem?” asked Lex, “you’ve been acting like an asshole all morning.”

“I saw the two of you this morning,” he blurted out. Chloe looked at Lex briefly, “what are you talking about? Saw what?” she asked her brother.

“I dropped by your room earlier this morning to see if you had any word from Lex and I saw…I saw the two of you in your bed.”

Chloe blushed and she turned away from both men so she could get her cheeks back to their normal colour.

“So that’s what the cold shoulder has been about all morning,” said Lex as everything kicked into place. “I thought we understood each other Lucas after our chat yesterday.”

“What chat?” asked Chloe.

“We did Lex,” replied Lucas, ignoring Chloe’s question, “but that doesn’t mean I’m happy about it, especially when the evidence is right in front of my face.”

“What are the two of you talking about?” shouted Chloe.

Lucas sighed and faced his sister, “I had a chat with Lex yesterday about the two of you, and the whole…sleeping together,” he said the last part very quickly.

Chloe blinked a couple of times and she felt the anger build inside her. ‘Oh crap,’ thought Lex as he watched her, ‘this isn’t going to be pretty.’

“Let me get this straight,” she said, her voice only barely controlled, “you,” pointing and Lex, “and you, “pointing at Lucas, “were discussing what…my sex life.”

“Chlo, it wasn’t like that,” said Lucas, “I just wanted to make sure…well I‘m not sure, I just don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Lex, I think you should leave,” she said, “I will call you later after Nixon has been in touch.”

“Chloe, don’t you think…” began Lex.

“Bye Lex,” she interrupted, “I’ll call you later.”

“Ok,” he said, getting up. As he passed Chloe he leaned down and whispered softly to her, “go easy on him.”

Chloe waited till she had heard the front door open and close before turning her attention to Lucas, who stood rather nervously watching her. “I am very flattered that you care about my feelings Lucas,” she began, “but I do not appreciate you going behind my back to talk to Lex. This is not the nineteenth century, this is the twenty-first and women can make their own decisions, even those surrounding the men they see. Now there is enough crap going on at the moment with Nixon, so I don’t need the two most important men in my life arguing. So, can it with the testosterone filled bouts of brotherly protection and let’s concentrate on getting rid of Nixon for good. Ok?”

“Chloe, it’s just that you’re family, and I grew up without one. Since I found out who I was and that I had a sister you’ve become the most important person in my life and I guess being the big brother is still a very new. I’m not going to say I’m happy that you’re having sex, in fact I really don’t want to dwell on *that* particular subject at all, but I will do my best not to get overly brotherly.”

“So was that a long-winded yes,” she grinned.

“It was,” he replied with a grin of his own. “Now come here and give me a hug.”

Crises averted Chloe walked over and hugged Lucas tight. ‘I really with you were my big brother,’ she thought. Lucas wrapped his arms around her and hugged her back.

--------------------------------------------------

When Lex got home he found Lana there by herself.

“Oh hi Lex,” she said brightly, “Your dad has gone out for a few hours.”

Lex nodded. He had called Gabe earlier from the Luthor place saying he had drunk too much last night and spent the night at his college friend’s house. Lying to his father, whatever reality he happened to be in, came easy to Lex.

“Did you have a good night?” asked Lana as she watched him open the refrigerator and rummage in it for something. ‘Damn he has a great ass’ she thought, and immediately felt herself blushing.

After finding a bottle of water Lex stood up and turned around to face the brunette. He cocked an eyebrow at her as he noticed her flushed face. “I had a great time last night,” he replied, as memories of making love to Chloe filled his mind. He opened the bottle and drank deeply from it.

Lana eyes widened as she followed a drop of water that escaped his mouth and rolled down his chin. She bit her lip to stop herself from groaning. Lex became aware of Lana watching him and decided to have a little fun.

He walked over to the counter and leaned on it, staring directly at Lana. “So, your not at the Talon today,” he said, his voice low.

“N…No,” she replied, suddenly aware of how close he was. “I’m going in later.”

“Just you and me here then,” he licked his lips.

“Y…Yes, just us,” she stammered. ‘He is so close,’ she thought.

“Lana, seeing we are the only ones here,” he began leaning in closer and lowering his voice even more, “you won’t mind if I…”

‘Oh god,’ her mind screamed. “No, I don’t mind at all,” she whispered. She leaned towards him, her lips heading for his.

“Good,” he said standing up quickly, Lana’s face nearly went in to the counter but she snapped back up. “I won’t play the music too loud,” he added. He grabbed the bottle of water and headed up to his room, a smirk plastered on his face.

Lana blinked a couple of times and her mouth opened and closed as she tired to figure out what had just happened. She stared at the door Lex had just left though, “he’s teasing me,” she decided, “but he does really want to kiss me.”

--------------------------------------------------

”Well that was Nixon,” said Chloe hanging up the phone, “he said the photographs will not be making any papers and that he wouldn’t be bothering me again.”

“And did he give the reason for his *sudden* change of heart,” said Lucas.

“Apparently my *boyfriend* threatened him.”

“Threatened whom?” said Lionel entering the room, “and what *boyfriend*?”

This is a great fic... just when I think it's gotten good, it gets better. You know how to keep us on edge. Please update soon.

Request: when things go back to normal, Chloe should get to keep her great "Luthor" wardrobe somehow. Possibly Lex buys her a new wardrobe or she does another great dead and gets to keep it when things go back.

Looking forward to your next chapter.

Chapter Twenty Seven – Trips

“Oh shit,” muttered Chloe when she saw Lionel standing there.

Lionel stepped into the room and watched as his children threw nervous glances at each other. “And again I ask, threatened whom? And what boyfriend?” he repeated, his gaze on Chloe.

“Just back me up if the need arrives,” she whispered to Lucas before taking a deep breath and facing Lionel.

“Dad,” she exclaimed, “you’re back early, did you have a nice trip?”

“Chloe,” he said, a hint of impatience in his voice, “you didn't answer my questions.”

“Now don’t start jumping to conclusions, just let me tell you everything,” she said, her mind working overtime. Lionel took a seat on the couch, and Lucas sat in a chair opposite him.

“Ok,” she began, “first off it’s not what you think, especially the whole *boyfriend* thing. I was…talking…yeah talking with Lex and we may have been sitting rather close while this *conversation* was taking place. And somehow a couple of pictures where taken of us. Then this reporter and I use that term very loosely when talking about this person, for the Inquisitor, which I’m not even going to consider a newspaper, dropped by with said photographs wanting money not to publish them. Now remember dad, these are very, very innocent photographs. Anyway not wanting to drag you into this, knowing how busy you are, I spoke to Lucas about them and what the best plan of action would. Naturally Lucas was all for the murder and hide the body scenario, but we decided on having a *friendly* phone call with said excuse for a reporter. So Lucas *pretended* to be my boyfriend and rang this guy and threatened him. And he was really good at it, the threatening I mean, not being my boyfriend cause he’s my brother and that’s heading down into territory we really don’t want to be heading. Anyway the photographs aren’t going to see the light of day. So as you see it wasn’t really anything so let’s just forget all about it...So how was your trip?”

Lionel stared at his daughter with a touch of awe and bemusement on his face at how she managed to get all that out without pausing once. As it was Lucas had pretty much the same expression on his face.

Lionel continued to stare at her, going over every word she had said in his mind. He knew she wasn’t telling the complete truth but he had to admit that, as usual, she had managed to come up with a pretty good cover story. ‘Maybe reporting is the career for her,’ he thought. As he stared at her Chloe resisted the urge to fidget; she was determined to hold her ground.

Lucas glanced between his father and his sister. It was a battle of wills; Lionel was waiting to see how long Chloe would hold out. And although it was a pretty good story Lucas knew quite well that Lionel knew she was lying.

“So,” said Lionel, “is this…reporter thing still a problem?”

“No, no, not a problem,” said Chloe, shaking her head for effect. “It has all been taken care of.”

“Fine, well I’m heading to my office I have some work to take care off,” he said, “and Lucas can I see you there in twenty minutes please.” With that he left.

“Ok that was way too easy,” said Chloe when he was gone. “He so didn’t buy that, so why is he all calm?”

“I don’t know, maybe he’s hoping we’ll slip up,” offered Lucas. He was more concerned on why Lionel wanted to see him.

“Ok Lucas, you worry about walking into the lion’s den and I’ll call Lex to let him know what happened,” said Chloe. “Hey maybe it’s good news that he has for you.”

“Yeah and pigs will fly,” muttered Lucas as Chloe left the room.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe was still on the phone to Lex when Lucas made his way down the corridor to Lionel’s office. He knocked lightly in the door. “Come in,” sad Lionel. Taking a deep breath and releasing it Lucas entered the office closing the door behind him.

“Well I’m here,” said Lucas, “what did you want?”

Lionel looked up from his laptop; “I want you to look after the plant for a week. And keep an eye on Lex Sullivan’s progress.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m heading away for a week and need you to look after things for me.”

“Cool,” replied Lucas, “sure no problem.” He resisted the urge to rub his hands together. ‘This will be fun, the old man gone for a week, Chloe and I will have a party a night,’ he thought.

“Good, glad it won’t be a problem for you. Also I hope you don’t mind being in the mansion on your own as Chloe will be accompanying me.”

“She is,” exclaimed Lucas.

“Yes. Well that will be all Lucas thank you. I’m not leaving till Wednesday so we can discuss things before then,” said Lionel, “oh and can you tell Chloe to come see me. And I would appreciate if you didn’t mention any of this to her.” When he had finished speaking he turned his attention back to his work. Lucas stood there for a moment and then with a sigh left the office, missing the small smile on his father’s face.

--------------------------------------------------

When he left Lionel’s office Lucas got one of the maids to fetch Chloe. If he went himself Chloe would immediately know something was up. ‘What was the old man up to,’ he thought, ‘going away, taking Chloe with him and leaving me in charge of the plant.’ He left the mansion and headed for his car deciding to forgo the fireworks that were due to fly when Lionel told Chloe what was going on.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex had agreed with Chloe, saying that Lionel didn’t completely believe her story and would wait for the opportunity to trick her into spilling the truth. After finishing the call she flopped back onto the bed. ‘Maybe Lucas and I can hit the cinema again tonight,’ she thought.

“Come in,” she called out when she heard the knock on her door. The door opened and a maid stuck her head in, “sorry to disturb you Miss Luthor, but your father would like to see you in his office.”

“Thanks Kate, I’m on my way.” She got off her bed and headed down for what was probably going to be another battle of wills with her *dad*. She hurried down the stairs, and unlike Lucas she didn’t knock on the door, just opened it and stepped it. “You wanted to see me,” she said.

“Have a seat Chloe, I’ll be with you in a moment,” replied Lionel. As she took the offered seat Lionel finished his document and saved it.

“Now I believe from Tuesday next you are off school for a week,” he said.

“Yes,” she replied, “we aren’t back till the following Wednesday. Why do you ask?”

“I am travelling to Paris next Tuesday evening for a week on business and you are coming with me,” he said.

“What? Where? Why?” stuttered Chloe, her brain trying to get around what he had just said.

“Paris on business for a week and I want you with me,” replied Lionel.

“But…but I have plans for that week off,” she said, “plans that involve me staying in Smallville.”

“Cancel those plans Chloe, you are coming with me,” he said, “Our flight is at 8.15pm on Tuesday evening, be ready. Now that will be all.”

Chapter Twenty Eight – Unwelcome Guests

“Chloe, I’m still not seeing the problem,” said Lucas with a sigh. “You’re going to Paris…you know…Paris.”

Chloe fixed him with a glare, “and that’s a terrible place to go,” he added in answer to her glare.

“It’s not Paris that is the problem,” she sighed, “it’s spending the week there with *Lionel*.”

“He will probably be at meetings all the time and you’ll be left on your own,” said Lucas, slinging his arm around his sister’s shoulder.

“Why can’t you go as well?” she asked. “We’d have fun.”

“You bet we would, but unfortunately I’m being left to look after the plant,” replied Lucas. “And I really want to make a go of it,” he added softly.

‘He sounds like Lex,’ thought Chloe. ‘Wanting to do his father proud.’ “He wouldn’t have put you in charge if he didn’t think you could do it,” she said with a smile. “And as long as the plant is still standing when we get back, he should be happy,” she added.

“Hey,” grinned Lucas, poking her in the side. He rested his arm around her shoulder again and Chloe laid her head on his. “I’ll miss you,” she said quietly.

Lucas smiled, he couldn’t believe how well they were getting on, “I’ll miss you too sis,” he replied sincerely.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex sat in the Talon and half listened to Clark going on and on about how his father was still pissed off about what Chloe had said at the dinner party. Lex hoped he nodded and said “yes” at appropriate times as Clark spoke, because at the moment his mind was more concerned with Chloe heading off for a week to Paris with Lionel.

Apart from the tiny pang of jealously at Lionel’s offer, because his father had never invited him to travel anywhere like that with him, he was a little worried for Chloe. Having to spend any time with his father was bad enough, but away for a week with no one else around that you knew would just be torture.

And the main reason he was concerned was for purely selfish reasons, and that was he would miss her. They were the only two who knew things weren’t as they should be, and even more so, now that they had slept together Lex couldn’t help but think about making love to her.

“Are you listening to me Lex?” asked Clark as he watched his friend.

“Not really,” he replied with a grin. “Sorry Clark, but I have a couple of things on my mind.”

“Yeah and I think I can guess what one of them is. Petite blonde, very hot, lots of money.”

Lex gave Clark a surprised look; “I don’t think I ever heard you referring to Chloe as ‘very hot’ before. What brought this on?”

Clark shrugged his shoulders, “guess I opened my eyes. Look Lex I know you and her are…close and we’re friends so I’d never try anything. But I’m just saying that if there was a chance I’d definitely go for it.”

‘Great,’ thought Lex, ‘Clark finally sees Chloe for the woman she is. I bet Lana’s crush on me has pushed him in that direction.’

Lex said nothing and just smiled at Clark. “Hey guys,” Lana’s voice piped up as she slid into the booth beside Lex.

“What has you so happy?” commented Clark.

“I’ve just heard that my boss, one Chloe Luthor, is heading off for a week,” Lana was practically bouncing in her seat. “Apparently she’s going to Paris with her father. And ok I’m like totally jealous about the Paris thing, but the upside is no boss for a week. Isn’t that great Lex?” She leaned in closer to him.

Lex inwardly rolled his eyes. ‘No Lana is in not great,’ he thought, ‘and believe me you still have no chance.’ Before he could respond he spotted Roger Nixon entering the Talon. “Fuck,” muttered Lex. “Excuse me,” he said to Clark and Lana and made his way over to the* reporter*.

“I wonder what that is all about,” muttered Clark as he watched Lex approach the man.

--------------------------------------------------

“What the hell are you doing here?” said Lex, when he reached Nixon.

“Haven’t heard from you in a few days, so I thought I’d pay a visit,” replied the older man. “You know, just to make sure you haven’t forgotten me.”

‘As if I could,’ thought Lex. “Well Nixon thanks to your little photo stunt, Lionel is taking her away for a week…to Paris. So there isn’t anything I can do till she gets back next week.”

“Shit,” murmured Nixon, “do you think the old man knows?”

“Do you think you’d be standing here if he did?” retorted Lex, and he then smirked at the look of panic that crossed Nixon’s face.

“Ok I’m going to leave town but I expect to hear from you Sullivan when Chloe Luthor gets back from Paris.” With that he left the Talon, and as soon as he was out of sight, Lex breathed a sigh of relief.

“Who was that?” asked Clark as he stood beside him. “No one of importance,” replied Lex. “Listen Clark I need to take care of something, I’ll see you later.”

“Where did Lex go?” asked Lana. “I don’t know,” replied Clark. ‘But there is definitely something very weird going on,’ he added silently.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex had driven back to the house after the Talon and rang Chloe from there. She said she’d be over in an hour. Lana would be at the Talon for the afternoon and Gabe wouldn’t be back till later in the evening. He began pacing around the kitchen while he waited for her. He glanced at the clock again, “she should be here soon,” he muttered.

As if on cue, there was a light knock on the back door. “Come in,” he said, the door opened and Chloe stepped in. “Wow at least my house looks the same,” she commented as she looked around the kitchen. “So what’s the emergency?”

“It’s not an emergency as such,” he said, “I ran into Nixon at the Talon earlier, I managed to convince him that the reason he hadn’t heard from me was because his little stunt has resulted in Lionel taking you away for a week. And that he would have to wait till you got back for an update.”

“Jeez he just won’t let up will he?”

“He’s got dollar signs on the brain, that’s all he can think about,” said Lex.

“Lex what am I going to do with a whole week away from you,” she said softly. Lex crossed the room and took her in his arms, “we could have very interesting phone conversations,” he joked. Chloe laughed and wrapped her arms around him. “Bet we could melt the phone lines.”

“So do I,” murmured Lex and covered her mouth with his. Chloe opened her mouth immediately and drew his tongue in, sucking on it gently. She moved her hands to his neck and ran one over his smooth head, causing him to groan into her mouth. He pulled her flush against his body, the slid his hands under her shirt and cupped her breasts through the silk of her bra. Chloe lowered one hand to the front of his pants and rubbed him gently, feeling him harden.

--------------------------------------------------

Lana hurried to the Sullivan house, she had forgotten one of the accounts book sand had to rush back for it. As she approached the house she saw the telltale Porsche parked outside. Frowning, he made her way around the back and gasped as she looked in the kitchen window. Chloe Luthor was lying back on the kitchen table, and Lex was between her legs. They were kissing and his hands were under her shirt, and it looked like Chloe’s hand was in his pants.

Lana stumbled back and almost fell over a plant in her hurry to her car. Accounts book forgotten she got in and drove off. “Bitch,” she hissed, “the sooner Chloe Luthor goes away the better. And I need to make sure she stays away.”
