Under a Bewitching Spell
Author: RuaFair (AKA Fiona)
Email: redwitchire@yahoo.co.uk
Rating: R
Spoilers: Everything to date to be safe-Season 1 & 2
Disclaimer: Smallville and its characters belong to someone else. (Sigh) I’m just borrowing them.
Feedback: Please, let me know what you think, the muse craves it.

A/N: This was inspired by email conversations with Hope and sort of borrows the plot from ‘Heat’ but mutated for my own needs. For this story Whitney is still in Smallville and sort of dating Lana. Lionel is around as well but not blind. And Clark will be infected like everyone else. Clark and Chloe are just friends there was never anything else, the same goes for Pete.

Chapter One – Candy Perfume Girl

“I *so* need to get a life,” muttered Chloe Sullivan as she crouched down in the bushes. She was cold, tired, wet and wanted to go home; in fact she should be at home not in the middle of the woods, in the dark and all alone. She had overheard, well not so much overheard she was actually eavesdropping, two people talking about a little pond in the woods that seemed to glow an eerie green colour. So Chloe’s reporter sense got tingling and she figured it was another meteor related phenomena and she *had* to check it out.

Granted it would have been nice to get Clark or Pete to come with her, but Clark had Lana to moon over and Pete had dumb football practise. She stretched one leg and then the other out in front of her trying to get the circulation going.

She had been sitting there for almost two hours and nothing, absolutely nothing had happened. The pond was about fifteen feet from her, looking exactly like a pond, with *no* eerie glow. She sighed loudly, switched off her digital camera and stuffed it back into her bag. Standing up she groaned at the pain in her back brought on by sitting in the same position for two hours.

“What a waste of time,” she said to the night air; she dropped her bag on the ground and walked over to the pond. When she reached the edge her foot got caught in the grass and she tripped, landing in the water and completely submerging. For the few seconds it took her to get her head above water a green glow emanated around, unseen by Chloe.

She coughed and spluttered and dragged herself out. “I do *not* believe this,” she said, “Knowing my luck I’ll catch pneumonia.” After a minute she stood up, closed her eyes and counted to ten, trying to keep her anger in check. She opened them again, picked up her bag and made her way back to her car, muttered and mumbling all the way.

“Ugh I stink.” She got in, opened all the windows and set off for her house. ‘Home, hot shower, bed,’ ran through her mind as she drove.

Forty-five minutes later she arrived home. Thanking the Gods her father was away for a few weeks. She was so not in the mood for a lecture. She trudged up the stairs to the bathroom, where she peeled her clothes off, threw them in the laundry basket and stood under the shower. “Much better,” she whispered as the hot water soothed her muscles.

After awhile she got out, dried off and got ready for bed. Sitting on her bed she took out her notebook and crossed off {Check the pond out}.

“Note to self,” she murmured as she got into bed and turned off the light, “find another hobby to stop oneself getting obsessed with the meteors.” Yawning loudly she curled up and was asleep within minutes.

As she slept her body glowed at first a bright green and then dimmed until she was her normal pale self again.

Meanwhile back in the woods the pond Chloe fell into had completely dried up, and all evidence of it ever being there had disappeared.

--------------------------------------------------

Next Morning

“She’s late,” said Pete as he and Clark stood in the Torch office waiting for Chloe. “You don’t think anything happened to her, do you?”

“She’s just a little late Pete, it’s not like it’s the first time either,” said Clark.

“It’s just that she was checking something out in the woods last night, she rang me but I couldn’t go, I had football practise and then a date…”

“She went out on her own then,” gasped Clark, “why…why didn’t she call me?”

“Chill Clark. She said she rang your place before calling me but your mom said you weren’t there.”

“I was at the Talon with Lex for awhile and then ended up helping Lana out,” said Clark with a sigh.

“Do you get the impression we’ve been…well…ignoring Chloe as of late?”

Clark was silent for a moment. It was true that he hadn’t seen as much of his blonde friend lately. She seemed to have really thrown herself into the paper. Always running after anything that remotely seemed like a meteor story. Chloe didn’t have many friends other than Pete and himself. She was sort of friendly when talking to Lana, and although didn’t know Lex very well the few times they had spoken they were friendly enough.

“Maybe we have a little Pete,” he replied, “but look at it this way if she was pissed at us about it she’d let us know. Right?”

Pete grinned, “Yeah, you’re right. Chlo wouldn’t be one too keep quiet about it.”

“Let’s leave her a note,” said Clark, “and she can follow us.”

--------------------------------------------------

“Shit,” muttered Chloe as she drove towards the school when she realised the time. She was late in meeting Clark and Pete. The three of them had decided to get together for the day seeing as how they weren’t spending as much time together as of late. “Well I’d need to be a jock for Pete to hang around with me these days,” she said to herself. “And unless I’m bald and look like Lana Lang, Clark’s not interested.”

She paused for a moment and then laughed out loud, almost losing control of her car as she pictured a *bald Lana Lang*. Deciding she needed coffee before facing Pete and Clark and the fact she was already late she parked in front of the Beanery.

She hopped out and ran in, not noticing the looks on all the men inside threw at her as she passed them, nor did she notice the figure the entered the coffee house after her. “Large cappuccino please,” she ordered when she got to the counter. Chloe drummed her fingers on the counter top as she waited.

“Black coffee please,” a familiar masculine voice behind her said. Recognising it, Chloe turned around and found herself nose to chest with Lex Luthor. She looked up to see him smiling down at her. ‘Wait,’ she thought, ‘he’s smiling, actually smiling, not smirking.’

“Miss Sullivan.”

“Mr. Luthor,” she retorted. He just stood looking at her and Chloe found it a little unsettling but she couldn’t quite drag her eyes from his.”

“Your coffee miss,” said a voice. The moment lost, she turned to the waitress, “thanks,” she said and reached out with her money. “This is on me,” said Lex, putting his hand over hers. The waitress nodded and went to get Lex’s coffee.

“Thanks Mr Luthor,” said Chloe removing her hand from under his and moving away from him. Lex inhaled deeply as she passed, her scent filling his senses. “MMMMM,” he murmured.

“Did you say something?” asked Chloe, turning to face him again.

“You smell delicious Chloe,” he said, drawing out her name, “a new perfume?”

“No…no I don’t wear perfume,” she stammered, moving back from him. “Even better,” he said, smiling at her again.

“Oh o-k, I have to go, thanks for the coffee,” she said. “See ya.” With that she turned and almost ran out of the Beanery. “Strange,” she muttered as she went to her car.

“Hi beautiful,” some guy walking past said. Chloe looked around her to see whom he was talking too, and on seeing no one else pinched herself. “*Ouch*,” she exclaimed. “Well at least I’m awake. It must be lack of sleep and caffeine.” She got in and started her car.

Back in the Beanery Lex watched as the man smiled at Chloe. He glared at his retreating back before turning back to Chloe and watched till she drove out of sight; unaware that every other man’s eye was watching her as well.

Chapter Two – Freaky Day

Chloe walked slowly from her car to the school entrance. After looking around to make sure no one was watching she brought her arm to her nose and sniffed. All she smelt was the detergent she used to clean her coat. ‘Luthor was probably just teasing me,’ she thought. As she made her way to the Torch to see the others, she saw several *players* from the football standing around the lockers.

Chloe groaned when she saw them. Taking a deep breath she braced herself for the inevitable jokes that she usually got from them. ‘Bunch of Neanderthals,’ she thought. Picking up the pace she moved passed them.

“Hey Chlo, looking good,” one of them shouted. This stopped her in her tracks but she didn’t look back, ‘ah new *tactics*,’ she thought and started walking again.

“Hi Chloe.” She turned to see Whitney Fordman walking beside her. “Hello,” she replied suspiciously, waiting for whatever the punch line to the joke they were playing on her to drop. “You look nice today,” he said.

‘What the fuck is going on?’ she thought. “Yeah, right, thanks,” and she walked faster. “Maybe I’ll see you later,” he said as she got to the door. “What-ever,” replied Chloe as she went in, shutting and locking the door behind her.

When she got inside she leaned against the door for a moment, and the noticed that the office was empty. She checked her watch again, “jeez, I’m a little late and they decide not too wait for me,” she said and threw her hands up in the air.” She sighed again and sat in her chair. There she saw the note stuck to her computer screen.

{Chlo,

Hung around for a while then went to the Talon. Meet you there. Clark}

“Argh,” she said, banging her hands on the desk. “I hate men, boys, men-boys, whatever they are. I am swearing off them. Ok not that I had a hectic social to begin with but that’s not the point.” She stopped in mid-rant when she realised she was trying to reason with herself and gave a little laugh. “The Talon,” she said, “so much for the *three* of us spending the afternoon together.” She crumpled up the note and threw it in the wastebasket. She put her ear against the door and heard nothing. “Good they’re gone.” Grabbing her bag she headed for the Talon.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex watched as Chloe left the school and got into her car. He followed her to the Talon and waited till she went in before parking his own car behind hers and following her inside.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe looked around and spotted Clark and Pete at the counter with *Lana*. ‘Ok Chloe,’ she thought, ‘let’s get ready to be ignored.’ She walked over to them, plastered a smile on her face, “hey guys, sorry I’m late,” she said as she positioned herself between them.

Clark’s face broke out into one of his mega-watt grins. “Chloe,” he said as he hugged her. She missed the glare Pete threw Clark as she almost got smothered in his arms. “Yeah, good to see you too Clark,” she said when he let her go, turning to Pete she tried to say hello but he grabbed her and hugged her. Lana looked on in confusion as Clark and Pete glared at each other.

Meanwhile seated in the corner out of sight Lex watched the proceedings with an almost murderous look in his eye. ‘How dare they touch her,’ he thought.

Chloe stepped back from Pete. “Ok guys I know we haven’t seen each other since yesterday but that welcome was a little over the top.” She grinned at them.

“Let’s sit over her,” said Clark grabbing her hand and dragging her over to a table. “I’ll get you a coffee Chlo,” said Pete.

Chloe was more or less deposited in the chair and Clark sat opposite her still holding her hand. “Hey, there’s only two seats, where’s Pete gonna sit?”

“Never mind that” said Clark, “wow you look great.” Chloe looked down at her outfit, long red skirt, and flowery shirt, not really Versace, why did everyone keep saying she looked great? Pete came over with two coffees. “Sorry Clark I forgot yours,” he said with a smirk.

Clark glared at Pete and resisted the urge to use his super speed to get it. He got up and went over to the counter mumbling under his breath. As soon as he left Pete sat in the seat he had vacated. “Thanks for the coffee Pete.”

Pete grinned at her, “no problem, by the way you look…”

“Great, I know,” exclaimed Chloe, “what the hell is going on with everyone today? Where you all taken over by aliens?” A group of the football players passed by their table. “Hi Chloe.” “Hey Chlo.” “Looking good Chloe.” They said with smiles.

“I must be coming down with some sort of brain fever,” she muttered to herself, “either that or Smallville has gone completely mad.”

In his corner, Lex sipped on his coffee. “Amateurs,” he whispered, “none of them have an idea how to compliment let alone *seduce* a woman.”

“Here’s your coffee Clark,” said Lana, aiming her brightest smile at him.

“Yeah thanks,” he said absently, his eyes still focussed on Chloe. Picking up his coffee he said nothing else to Lana and made his way back over to Chloe. Lana looked baffled, but brightened up again when Whitney came in. He didn’t head to the counter to her but stopped at Chloe’s table. Lana narrowed her eyes, ‘what’s going on?’ she thought.

“Hi again Chloe,” said Whitney with a smile. “Hi Whitney,” she said, wondering if she was actually having a really vivid waking dream. She stood up and so did Pete. “I’ll be back in a minute,” she said. “I’ll go with you,” said Clark. Chloe rolled her eyes, “I’m going to the bathroom, I do *not* need an escort.” Walking quickly away she didn’t stop till she was in the bathroom.

She checked around and thanked the Gods that it was empty. She stood looking at herself in the mirror. “Nope, nothing looks any different,” she whispered to her reflection. “If this is some elaborate joke that *everyone* is playing on me I will *so* not be responsible for my actions.”

--------------------------------------------------

Back outside Clark, Pete and Whitney just stood around glaring at each other. “Oh look Fordman, Lana’s calling you,” said Clark. “Maybe it’s *you* she calling Kent,” he replied. “Actually I think she’s calling the both of you,” said Pete. But none of them moved.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe slipped quietly out of the bathroom and stood at the door. She saw Clark, Pete and Whitney. ‘I really don’t want to go back over there,’ she thought, ‘I wonder if I can sneak out the back door.’

She had just reached the door when a voice stopped her. “Going so soon Chloe?”

‘Not again,’ she thought. “Hello again Mr Luthor,” she said turning to face him. “Call me Lex,” he said, moving closer to her. “You seem in a hurry.”

“Yeah, I need to go home, my dad’s gonna be calling from the conference and I have…*stuff*… yeah, stuff to do.” Not the best answer but being around Lex Luthor made her kind of nervous and sometimes it took a while for her snark factor to kick in around him.

“And how long is he away for?”

“For another week,” she said. ‘Did he get closer?’ she thought.

‘Another week onto that will be even better,’ thought Lex. “Well let me walk you to your car.” He held the door open for her and placed his hand on the small of her back as she walked out. His hand lingered a little longer before he reluctantly removed it. He moved closer to her as they walked. He was so close she could feel his arm brush against hers. “You are unusually quiet Chloe.”

“I’m just having a very weird day and I’m trying to figure out what’s going on. Maybe I’m just coming down with…something. Anyway here’s my car, thank Mr…Lex.”

Lex reached into his pocket and pulled out a small business card and a pen; he scribbled something on the back and handed it to Chloe. “Give me a call and we’ll arrange that interview, if you are still interested of course.”

Chloe smiled at him and took the card, her fingers brushing his as she did. Lex took a sharp intake of breath at the contact. “Are you sure?” she asked, wondering what had changed his mind. Lex just nodded at her. “Oh then I still want too,” she said. With that she got into her car. She rolled down her window, “I’ll call you about the interview. Bye,” she said before driving off.

“Oh, I’m *counting* on it Chloe,” he said as her car disappeared. He took out his cell phone and dialled. “This is Lex Luthor,” he said when it was answered at the other end. “The conference Gabe Sullivan is at is due to end in a week, make sure he’s booked for the next one. Don’t worry about fees or his accommodation; Luthor-Corp will be taking care of that. Thank you.” And he hung up, heading for his car with a smile on his face.

--------------------------------------------------

When Chloe got home she looked at the card and saw that he had written his private number on the back. “Wow, Lex Luthor’s private telephone number. Wonder how much that is worth.” She kicked off her shoes and sat on the couch. “I really should ring Clark and Pete and tell them I’ve left, but the way they’ve been acting, maybe not. Anyway with *Lana* there they’ll soon forget me.”

She switched on the TV, “what a freaky day, football players being nice to me, Clark and Pete being very weird, although that’s not too freaky. But *Lex Luthor* agreeing to another interview, now that is strange, but I’m not gonna complain.”

And as she watched the TV her mind was filling with the questions she was going to ask him when she arranged the interview.

Chapter Three – War Declared

Chloe woke up late. After showering and dressing she sat at the kitchen table sipping her first coffee of the day. She held the card Lex had given her; ever since she got home yesterday evening she had been dying to call him to arrange the interview. She still couldn’t believe that Lex Luthor had actually *volunteered* to give an interview, and she wanted to call him as soon as possible to arrange it before he changed his mind.

As she was mulling over whether or not to pick up the phone to call him, it rang. “Hello,” she said.

“Hi sweetheart.”

“Hi dad, wow two calls in the space of 12 hours, miss me that much.”

On the other end of the line, Gabe laughed. “Of course I miss you Chlo. Listen I’m just ringing to tell you that in addition to this week, I’m going to be here for another week onto that.”

“Why? I thought the conference was only going on for a week.”

“This one is, but I’ve been signed up for another one, some management thing. Lex Luthor recommended me personally.”

Chloe smiled to herself at obvious pride in her dad’s voice as he said that. “Well dad you deserve it, you practically run that plant.”

“Thanks sweetheart. So are you ok with me being gone for two weeks?”

“No I want you home right now,” she joked, “of course it’s ok, you wow them dad.”

“I’ll try and I’ll call regularly. Take care. Love you.”

“I love you too dad. Have fun. Bye.”

“Bye,” said Gabe and hung up.

Chloe sighed as she hung up the phone. While part of her was delighted that her dad was getting the recognition he deserved and the fact she had the house to herself for two weeks; the other part really missed him, since it was only the two of them they were close.

“Right,” she said to the empty kitchen, snapping herself out of her funk, “its Sunday, there is still plenty of the day left, what will I do?” As she tried to think of something other than Torch work the phone rang again.

“Hello.”

“Hi Chlo, its Clark.”

“Hey Kent how are you?”

“I’m good, listen I was wondering if you wanted to come over, I’ve finished my chores and we could I don’t know hang out and watch movies or something.”

‘Problem of what to do solved,’ she thought. “Sure Clark I’d love too, I’ll be over in an hour.”

“Perfect. See you then,” said a very happy Clark.

“Ok, bye Clark.” “Bye.”

Chloe hung up and smiled to herself as she tidied up the kitchen.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe pulled her car up in front of the Kent’s house and got out. “Hello,” she said knocking at the back door. “Hi Chloe, come on in,” said Martha Kent. “Hi Mrs Kent,” as she entered the kitchen.

“How are you Chloe with your dad away?”

“I’m fine, it’s kind of nice having the house to myself but I do miss him.”

Martha just smiled at her. “Well Clark is in the barn with his dad if you want to head out to him. Oh are you staying for dinner?”

“I don’t know yet, but I’ll let you know soon.”

“Ok. Have fun.”

Chloe left and headed to the barn. “Clark,” she said, looking around. She went to climb the stairs to Clark’s *Fortress of Solitude* when she collided with Jonathan Kent. “Oops Mr Kent, I’m sorry.”

“Chloe,” he said, “are you ok?” His hands on her arms to stop her from falling.

“Yes, nothing broken.” She smiled at him; “I was looking for Clark.”

“Oh he’s around somewhere,” said Jonathan, his hands lightly rubbing her arms, which she barely noticed.

“Chloe, you made it,” said Clark as he entered the barn, and then stopped and glared when he saw his dad with her.

Chloe stepped away from Jonathan, “hey Clark, just had a collision with your dad. But everyone is ok.”

Clark stepped closer and Chloe found she was almost sandwiched between father and son. “I think mom was calling you,” he said to his father. Jonathon just smiled at Chloe, “see you later Chloe,” and left the barn. “Did you and your dad have an argument?” asked Chloe, “there just seemed to be a little tension between you.”

“No, not at all. Come on let’s go,” and he took her hand and they went upstairs to his fortress.

A few hours later they were still sitting on the couch; Chloe had her head against Clark’s shoulder as she watched the movie. Clark was more focussed on her and used his x-ray vision to look through her shirt, he groaned softly when he saw the pale green silky bra underneath. He moved his gaze down and let out a louder groan when he saw her matching panties.

“Are you ok Clark?” asked Chloe looking up at him. Clark said nothing; he just moved his hand and cupped her cheek. ‘Ok what’s going on here?’ she thought. He leaned forward to kiss her…

“Clark, hope I’m not *interrupting* anything?”

Chloe pulled back and saw Lex Luthor standing there with, from what she could tell, a rather angry look on his face. Clark jumped up and faced Lex, his hands clenched in fists by his sides. Chloe looked at both of them, ‘jeez they look really angry with each other; I wonder what’s going on. Has Clark pissed everybody off?’ she thought. She jumped up herself and stood between them. “Hi Lex,” she said smiling at him.

Lex felt his mood lighten when he saw her smile, he had been watching from outside and when he saw Clark lean down to kiss Chloe he just lost it. He had never felt anything like the anger that coursed through his body at the thought of Clark kissing her or any man other than himself for that matter.

“Can I do something for you Lex?” asked Clark, keeping his temper in check. “No, not really, I just popped by to say hello,” Lex replied smoothly. “I didn’t know you had company,” he lied.

“Clark and I were just hanging out watching movies,” said Chloe, “so you haven’t really interrupted anything. Isn’t that right Clark?” she said turning to her friend.

Clark shook his head and turned his gaze from Lex to Chloe. He grinned at her for a moment before looking back to Lex, “no Lex, you *didn’t* interrupt.”

Silence descended over them, Chloe watched as Lex and Clark threw, what only could be described as murderous, looks at each other. “So,” she said clapping her hands together, “why don’t you join us Lex? If it’s ok with you Clark?”

“It’s fine,” muttered Clark, sitting back down on the couch. Chloe sighed and sat down beside him, she really didn’t want to act as a referee between them, she didn’t know what was going on but they were mad at each other over something. Lex smirked to himself as he sat down on the other side of Chloe. ‘Great,’ she thought, ‘sandwiched again.’ Because the couch was quite small for three people, Lex’s thigh was pressed up against her and when he laid his hand on it his fingers gently brushed against her thigh. And although the contact was minimal Chloe felt shivers run down her spine.

They sat in silence watching the movie, although none of them where paying any attention to it. Chloe was thinking back to when Clark almost kissed her, and how weird that was. She was also trying to figure out what had caused the rift that seemed to have appeared in Lex and Clark’s friendship. Clark was internally cursing Lex for his incredibly bad timing, and Lex was wondering where to hide Clark’s body after he killed him. But mainly Lex and Clark’s thoughts were filled with the sensation of having Chloe so close to them.

Clark stretched his arm out and it rested on the back of the couch, his hand almost touching Lex’s shoulder. Lex smirked when he saw what Clark had done, ‘pure amateur,’ he thought. Chloe started fidgeting, the silence and the tension finally getting to her. Her movement caused her leg to brush more insistently against Lex’s.

Clark leaned closer to Chloe, and at the same time so did Lex. ‘Right,’ she thought, ‘that’s it, I’m going to get squashed if they don’t stop.’

She jumped up quickly causing Clark to fall forward and he ended up with his head in Lex’s lap. Chloe burst out laughing at the sight. Clark leapt up as if he had been scalded; Lex just stared at Chloe’s laughing face, completely ignoring Clark and what happened. “Oh that was priceless” she said when she managed to stop laughing, “I wish I had my camera.”

A moment later her mood sobered up. “Look, I don’t know what’s going on between the two of you, but there is definitely something off. And I refuse to play referee to whatever argument you’ve had. But *get it sorted*, you are both friends and I’m sure whatever it is it isn’t worth your friendship. And on that note I’m going home, I’ve suddenly remembered some work I have to do for the Torch. I can find my own way out,” she added when Clark moved towards her.

“I’ll see *you* at school tomorrow Clark, and I’ll see *you* around Lex.” With that she left saying goodbye to Mrs. Kent along the way.

When she had gone, Clark and Lex faced each other again. “Well Clark I had better be going myself.”

Clark grabbed Lex’s arm, “I *know* what you’re up Lex and it’s not going to work.”

Lex shook his arm free, “I have no idea what you are talking about Clark.” He walked down the stairs, left the barn and went to his car, taking off in a screech of tyres.

“If it’s a war that you want Clark,” Lex said as he sped along the roads, “be prepared to *lose*. I always get *who* I want.”

Chapter Four – From Famine to Feast to the Lion’s Den

Chloe took her time driving to school. Because of the abrupt ending to her afternoon with Clark yesterday she hand managed to get a lot of work done when she got home. She hoped that Clark and Lex had managed to patch things up, and part of her was dying to know what they were arguing about.

As she drove along she saw Whitney Fordman waiting for the bus. ‘Should I stop,’ she thought, ‘well he was nice to you on Saturday,’ her inner voice spoke. Taking a deep breath she pulled the car up beside the bus stop and rolled down the window. “Hi Whitney, do you want a ride to school?” she asked.

Whitney’s face broke out into a big smile when he saw that it was Chloe. “I’d love too,” he said and jumped into the passenger seat, “my car is in the garage.”

Chloe just smiled at him and took off again. They drove along in silence and Chloe felt like she was being watched. She turned her head from the road briefly to look at Whitney and saw that he was staring intently at her.

“What?” she said, “do I have something on my face?”

“No,” he grinned, “you look beautiful.”

The car swerved as she lost control for a moment. “Did you get a particularly bad bang to the head at football practise that has somehow affected your brain, sight and well, sanity?”

“Are you doing anything this evening?” he asked, ignoring her previous question.

“Are you asking me out?”

Whitney nodded.

“Whitney, ‘Lana Lang’s boyfriend, captain of the football team, hater of Clark Kent, leader of the bunch of miscreants that tease me on a regular basis’, Fordman, is asking me, Chloe, ‘hey aren’t you the weird chick that runs the paper and writes all the freaky meteor shit,’ Sullivan, out.”

“Is that a yes?” he said.

‘Chloe you have just entered the Twilight Zone,’ she thought. “And what about Lana?”

“What about her?” said Whitney with a shrug of his shoulders; “Clark is *welcome* to her.”

Chloe brought her car to a screeching halt and turned to face Whitney. “Ok, stop, rewind, playback. Did you just say that CLARK was welcome to LANA? Are you sure you didn’t bang your head? What the hell are you doing asking me out? Is somebody going to jump out with a camera and say, ‘Chloe Sullivan, you’ve been framed.’ And everyone will have a good laugh.”

Before she knew what was happening Whitney had grabbed her face and pressed his lips to hers. She was so shocked she didn’t know what to do. After a moment he pulled back, his hands still holding her face. “So are you doing anything this evening?”

Chloe narrowed her eyes at him and moved her face from his hands. “Yes Whitney I am busy, I’m going to be busy having you committed. Look I don’t know what game you’re playing but I will *not* be used as a ploy for you to make Lana jealous. You and Clark can take your little pissing contest over her and shove it, just keep me the hell out of it. Now get out of my car, you can walk the rest of the way.”

The next thing he knew, Whitney was being pushed out of the car and Chloe was driving off. “So is that a rain check on the date,” he shouted after the car, a smile on his face. After the car was out of sight Whitney started walking towards the school.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe drove along fuming. She couldn’t believe Whitney would stoop that low as to use her to make Lana jealous. She was so angry she could just scream. After parking her car she stormed her way through the crowds to her first class, completely ignorant of the looks the male population were giving her. “Ah just bite me,” she said when one of them told her she looked good; she was so not in the mood for any of them.

She got through the day on pure anger, she was even more snarky than usual with the teachers and they were *fine* about it. In fact one of the female teachers asked if she was suffering with PMT. Four different guys had asked her out and it had got her so paranoid that she skipped a couple of classes and somehow managed to sneak into every boys bathroom and locker room to make sure there wasn’t graffiti saying, {For a good time, call Chloe Sullivan.} ‘When did I suddenly become the most wanted,’ she thought. ‘I don’t have a date for months and suddenly there’s a choice.’

She had managed to avoid Whitney all day but couldn’t help blushing when she saw Lana. Her anger was weaning but every time she saw a football jacket it rose again and she couldn’t wait for classes to be over. When the last bell rang she ran out of the classroom, dodging and weaving her way through the crowds.

Finally reaching the Torch she flopped down in her chair turned on her computer and began typing furiously about the Caveman attitude of high-school boys. She wanted to get it all written down before her anger subsided.

“Whoa Chlo, don’t kill the keyboard,” said Pete as he entered the office. Chloe turned in her seat and glared at him before going back to the screen. Pete came up behind her and rested his hands on her shoulders. “What has made you so upset?”

Chloe sighed and leaned into Pete’s touch before speaking, “I stopped to give Whitney a ride this morning on the way to school,” she didn’t notice the look in Pete’s eye when she said this, but she did feel his hands tighten on her shoulders. “Anyway we were driving along and he asked me out. Ouch Pete that hurts,” she said when he squeezed tight.

“Oh sorry Chlo, please continue,” he said removing his hands and pacing slowly behind her.

“Ok, where was I? Oh yes, date. I was shocked and made a joke out of it, then I started ranting about Lana etc and then, you are *so* not going to believe this, then…he *kissed* me.”

“I’ll kill him,” growled Pete, “I will KILL him.”

“Hey Pete chill, I told him to get out of the car and I drove off. There is *no way* on earth I’d go out with him, even if Lana wasn’t on the scene.”

Pete forced himself to calm down for Chloe’s sake. But, the thought of anyone kissing her was making his blood boil. He forced a smile at her; “I’m calm.” ‘He is so dead,’ he thought.

“Please Pete, don’t say anything about this. Especially to Clark or Lana, I’d feel so embarrassed. Please Pete.”

“Of course I won’t say anything Chlo. But you tell me if he tries anything again?”

“Oh I don’t think he will. And thanks Pete.” She kissed his cheek, “you’re the best.”

Pete gave Chloe his brightest smile and touched the spot on his cheek where she kissed him when she had turned her back to sit down at her computer again. She continued her typing and Pete just stood looking at her. “What are you waiting for? She asked.

“Just you.”

She turned to face him again. “To walk you to your car,” he added, “are you ready?”

“I’m going to be another while, I want to get this editorial finished. So you head on and I’ll see you later.”

“Oh ok then.” Pete didn’t bother hiding the disappointment in voice, “I’ll see you later,” and he left the room. Chloe thought nothing else of it and continued typing away.

Ten minutes later she finished and saved her document. She took the card with Lex’s number out and before she lost her nerve dialled the cell-phone number.

“Lex Luthor.”

“Hi Lex it’s Chloe.”

“Chloe,” he said the tone of his voice changing completely, “to what do I owe the pleasure?”

Chloe smiled to herself; “I was calling to arrange the interview if you’re still available.”

‘For you I am,’ he thought, “of course I am. When would suit you?”

“Well, how does later on this evening sound? We can meet at the school and do the interview in the Torch Office.”

“That would be perfect Chloe, but it would be better if we conducted the interview at my place,” he replied.

Chloe thought for a moment, “ok then, just keep me away from the windows,” she joked nervously.

‘I’ll be keeping you alright,’ he thought. “Don’t worry Chloe, nothing *bad* will happen to you. So shall I see you at, say, 7.00pm?”

“7.00pm is perfect. I’ll see you then Lex.”

“I look *forward* to it Chloe.”

“Bye Lex.” “Bye Chloe.” And she hung up the phone.

‘Excellent, an interview with Lex later,’ she thought, ‘ok, head home, get changed and go over questions. Leave house a 6.30pm be at Lex’s just before 7.00pm.’

----------------------------------------------------

Chloe parked her car in front of the imposing Luthor castle and got out. She smoothed her long tan coloured skirt and decided against a jacket, her cream silk shirt was warm enough. Grabbing her notebook and tape recorder she made her way up the steps to the main door. She rang the bell and the housekeeper let her in a moment later.

Lex had been watching her from the moment her car came into view. He was in his private study waiting for his housekeeper Alice to show her in. ‘Chloe Sullivan will know she’s mine before she leaves,’ he thought.

“Enter,” he said to the knock on the door.

“Mr Luthor, Miss Sullivan is here,” said Alice, standing out of the way and letting Chloe pass.

“Thank you Alice, you may go.”

The housekeeper left, closing the door behind her. Lex turned to face Chloe, “good evening Chloe,” he said, a knowing smirk on his face.

Chapter Five – Animal Instincts

“Hi Lex,” said Chloe as he moved towards her.

“Why don’t we sit here?” he said, leading her to a ridiculously large black leather couch. ‘Wow this thing is almost as big as my bed,’ she thought as she sat down.

The leather creaked, as she got comfortable. “Can I get you anything Chloe, coffee, water?” he asked, “or maybe something stronger?”

“Lex, I’m too young to drink,” she replied with a smile, “anyway I’m fine for the moment.”

Lex sat on the couch beside her. “Ah yes, too young to drink. And yet you’re old enough to drive, and perhaps more importantly, old enough to *legally* have sex.”

Chloe blushed and bowed her head, suddenly finding the pattern on the carpet the most interesting thing in the world. Lex smiled at her lowered head and took the opportunity to move closer to her. Chloe looked back up when the she heard the sound of the leather and saw that Lex was practically beside her. Lex had a strange effect on her that she didn’t want to over analyse.

She took a couple of deep breaths and took out her notebook and tape recorder, willing herself into *reporter mode*. “Are you ready…” she trailed off when she caught him staring at her intently, a hungry look in his eye. It made her suddenly feel like she was the main course on the menu and it unnerved her.

“Fire away Chloe,” he said his voice slightly lower in tone than earlier, which caused shivers to run down her spine. ‘It’s not like this *interview* is going to last long,’ he thought, ‘I have much more *pleasurable* things to *do* to you.’

She switched on her tape recorder and began making small notes in her notebook. ‘Let’s get on with this,’ she thought.

“Lex, do you think Luthor-Corp’s reputation in the town has been damaged more by all trouble earlier over the proposed plant closure? And what are you doing to try and rectify that?”

“I think Luthor-Corp’s reputation in Smallville was already damaged beyond repair before I even came here,” he said, “and as for trying to improve it, I’m not even that good of a miracle worker.”

“But *you* did improve the reputation Lex, since you’ve been here. You managed to save the jobs when your father wanted you to cut 20% of the workforce. You saved everyone when Earl Jenkins went a little psycho. I mean I can’t speak for everyone at the plant, but my dad likes you and respects you as a boss, and he says a lot of the others workers do as well.”

Lex smiled at her, “and what about you Chloe?” Do you *like* me?”

Yeah sure…sure I like you,” she said. ‘Next question quick,’ her mind screamed. She cleared her throat, “and have any plans been made to reactivate Level Three?”

“I like you too Chloe,” he said leaning in, he didn’t even hear her question; being this close to her was intoxicating. ‘And we’re going to get a *lot* closer,’ he thought, as visions of naked skin on naked skin flooded his mind.

“Well…ok…that’s nice, I’m glad we’ve got that out of the way,” she stuttered, she could feel his breath on her face, “so…so about my question.” ‘Damn he is *sexy*,’ she thought and felt a heat flow through her.

“You are so desirable,” he whispered, his lips moving to her ear. She shuddered when she felt them gently caress the sensitive shell of her ear. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to be desired?” Lex moved his hands, one rested on her knee; the other cupped her chin gently.

“L-L-Lex,” she stammered, closing her eyes as she tried to get control over her body.

Lex moved his lips from her ear across her cheek and over her jaw line, hardly touching her skin at all. He stopped when they were over her lips. When Chloe looked into his eyes she gasped softly, they were so dark they were almost black.

“Do you know how *good* I can make you feel Chloe?” His lips were so close to hers that when he spoke she could feel them move. The hand on her knee went under the skirt she was wearing and he moved it to her thigh. “I could make you burn Chloe, make you so incoherent with desire you would hardly be able to say your name?”

‘Oh my GOD,’ she thought. His words and voice were driving her crazy, she could feel her nipples harden and each word he uttered caused a throb between her legs. ‘I’m going to explode, and he’s only talking, what will I be like when he really touches me? Oops where did that come from?’

His hand slipped between her legs and rubbed her inner thigh and she couldn’t think anymore, everything was now about the sensations that Lex was creating within her. The other hand left her chin and moved down her neck, his long fingers caressing the flesh. It moved past her neck, over her collarbone down her shirt and rested on her breast. He cupped it gently through the silk of her shirt and ran his thumb over the already hard nipple. A ragged moan escaped her lips.

“So hot,” he whispered against her mouth. She was so close to giving in, he could feel it. His own need was getting beyond his control; all she needed was that one last push and she would then surrender to him. He moved his hand slowly up her thigh and cupped her groin, rubbing through her panties feeling her get wet.

“Lex,” she whimpered, rocking her hips gently.

Finally he pressed his lips to hers, “open for me Chloe,” he murmured.

She couldn’t resist him, she was so aroused and eagerly opened her mouth; Lex sucked her tongue into his mouth and coiled his own around it. Her notebook and tape recorder fell to the floor as she moved her arms around his neck. With expertise Lex unbuttoned her shirt halfway with one hand, while the other still stroked her gently.

Lex released her mouth, so both could breathe. Chloe panted heavily as she looked at him through half-closed eyes. She licked her kiss-swollen lips and Lex groaned loudly, leaning forward to kiss her again. Chloe allowed herself to be pushed back onto the couch. ‘This is madness,’ her self-reason shouted. But her body wanted so much more.

She ran a hand over his smooth head and he moaned into her mouth. He removed his hand from between her legs and began to pull her skirt up…

“Mr Luthor I have those papers for you,” a voice sounded as a man entered the room. Lex jumped up from the couch, “what the fuck are you doing? I said I wanted NO interruptions.”

“But…but,” the man stammered, “Alice…Alice said it was ok.”

“You’re *fired*,” said Lex.

“W-What?”

“FIRED, now get the fuck out of here,” he shouted. The man’s face paled, he dropped the papers in his hands onto the floor and practically ran out of the room.

When Lex turned back to Chloe she had fixed her clothes and was picking her things off the floor. “I…I should get going,” she whispered.

Lex bent down and put his hands on hers, “NO Chloe.”

She pulled her hands away and stood up, “yes,” she said. “I don’t know what’s going on, first Whitney kisses me this morning and…”

“Fordman TOUCHED you,” Lex shouted.

Chloe recoiled; she had never seen anyone so angry as Lex was now. “I better go.” And she moved past him. Lex grabbed her arm, “I THINK you should stay.”

She pulled her arm free and continued walking. She could hear Lex coming up behind her and was suddenly frightened. Suddenly the housekeeper appeared at the door, “everything all right?” she asked.

“Yes fine,” muttered Chloe and brushed past her, ran to the front door, down the steps and got into her car, driving off quickly.

“Alice, did I or did I *not* tell you that I wanted no interruptions when Miss Sullivan was here?”

“Yes you did Mr Luthor, but Harry said the papers where important.”

“I see,” said Lex, the famous Luthor cool now evident in his demeanour. “Gather your things, you are fired.”

“I-I’m what? Why?”

Lex rolled his eyes wondering how he managed to get staff that seemed to disobey his requests and stutter when the got news they didn’t like.

“You a fired, you disobeyed a simple request. Goodbye.”

“But…”

“GOOD BYE.”

With a sob the woman left the room. Lex walked over to his drinks cabinet and poured himself a large scotch, which he downed in one go. He looked over at the couch and saw Chloe spread before him.

“A slight hiccup in my plans,” he said to himself, “but nothing that can’t be fixed. But first I must have a few words with Whitney Fordman, he needs to know that there are consequences for touching what belongs to Lex Luthor.”

Chapter Six – Scare Tactics

Chloe didn’t stop or think till she had parked her car in front of her house. She opened the front door, and then locked it behind her. Dropping her bag she began pacing the floor of the living room.

“Ok, what the HELL just happened,” she said. “Why is everything so complicated where Lex Luthor is concerned. ‘Come over for an interview Chloe,’ he said. ‘No problem Lex,’ I replied. So I go over there ask two questions and next thing we’re about to have sex on his leather couch. Where did that come from? It was like he set the whole thing up. The interview was just a pretence to get me over there.” She stopped pacing for a moment; her mind trying to figure out a puzzle that she wasn’t even sure was there.

“Something very, very strange is happening,” she said as the pacing began again. “Lex Luthor wanted to have SEX with ME. And even stranger is the fact that I would of let him. My God that man’s hands and mouth should come with a government health warning.” She shivered slightly as her body remembered how Lex had kissed and caressed her till she could deny him nothing.

“I felt nothing when Whitney kissed me, well except the urge to throw up, and I was more freaked out than excited when Clark was going too, but with Lex…” She trailed off for a moment. Things started to make sense, the football guys being nice to her and asking her out on dates; Clark’s attempted kiss, Whitney, Pete’s behaviour, and then mister seduction himself Lex.

“When did I suddenly become Miss Irresistible? Last week things were their usual self, Clark moped over Lana, Pete was Pete, football jocks teased me, Whitney practically said nothing to me; and Lex Luthor and I had a civil enough acquaintance. And now, it seems, everyone WANTS me.”

She flopped onto the couch and buried her head in her hands sighing deeply. “What’s going on?” she whispered, “nothing strange has happened as far as I know, things on the meteor front have been quiet as of late. I don’t think aliens abducted me. The only thing was my late night dip in the pond…”

She jumped up, “the pond. But it was just a pond, I found nothing to make me think otherwise. But what else could it be? Nothing else, that’s just it, and why am I arguing, contradicting and agreeing with myself?”

She laughed a little to herself. “Right what do I do now? Well first go check the pond, second conduct a little experiment to see if I am irresistible and thirdly find out how the fuck I can make it go away.” She was actually a little uncomfortable with all the male attention, but a large part of her liked the fact that the normally cool and aloof Lex Luthor would go to so much trouble to get her alone.

“Oh shit,” she suddenly exclaimed, “I don’t think Lex is going to be put off by what happened earlier. Mental note to self, try to avoid him.” In her mind she ran through the classes she had tomorrow and deciding her academic career wouldn’t suffer if she didn’t go in she made up her mind to pull a sick day and go look at the lake.

Feeling a little better that she wasn’t going mad and that some elaborate joke wasn’t be played at her expense Chloe decided to have an early night.

--------------------------------------------------

Next Morning

Chloe woke from a dream filled sleep. A sleep full of Lex Luthor and what would have happened had they not been interrupted. Shaking her head to clear it of fuzzy thoughts she sat up. “Ok Chloe, full-on research mode.”

--------------------------------------------------

Lex didn’t sleep at all that night. The couple of times he dozed off his dreams were filled with images of making love to Chloe and each time he woke up he had to fight to urge to go over to her house and finish what he had started.

The rest of his staff had tiptoed around him all evening having heard the shouting and the two dismissals and decided not to push their luck.

After showering and dressing Lex went to his study to make some calls, deciding to go look for Whitney Fordman later.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe traipsed through the woods towards were the pond was. She was feeling much better. The thought of finally getting to the bottom of what was going on had improved her mood. As soon as she verified her findings she could then worry about how she was going to deal with Lex.

She weaved her way through the trees towards the little clearing. “Ok pond,” she said, “let’s find out what’s wrong…”

She trailed off when she saw the area bare. There was no sign of the pond, actually there was no evidence of there EVER been a pond there. “What happened?” She muttered as she made her way over to where there should be a body of water that she had fallen into a few nights ago.

“How can a entire pond disappear? What, was there suddenly a drought that *only* affected this pond? This wasn’t suppose to happen,” she ranted at the dry area. “How DARE you not be there.”

“Ok Chloe, calm down,” she said to herself and took a couple of deep breaths. She looked around the area and all it looked like was the rest of the woodland ground. “What am I going to do now?” she sighed.

She crouched down to run her hand over the area and then stood up again letting out another deep sigh. She didn’t hear the person come up behind her.

“Gotcha,” they said.

Chloe screamed and turned around to see Clark standing there, a big grin on his face.

“Jesus Christ Clark, what are you doing? You nearly gave me a heart attack,” she said when she had gotten over the shock. “I think I’ve aged about twenty years. What are you doing here?”

Clark just smiled at her ramblings. “I think I should be asking you why are you here? I thought you were *sick*.”

“I had to check something out,” she said, “and why aren’t you at school?”

Clark just shrugged his shoulders. When he heard that she had called in sick he went by her place and seeing the car gone went looking for her. He spotted the car parked out on the road and used his x-ray vision to find her. Using his vision once again he looked through her clothes and a sly grin crossed his face when he saw the cream lacy underwear that she had on. ‘God, Chloe wears incredibly sexy underwear,’ he thought.

Chloe saw the strange look on Clarks face coupled with the grin and for some strange reason felt weird, it was like he was looking through her and she felt almost naked. “Hey Kent, you still with us?” She said, hoping the break the moment.

“Oh I’m still here,” he said, moving towards her. Chloe took an involuntary step back. She had wanted to test out her so-called *irresistibility* but she hadn’t pictured it taking place in the middle of the woods or with Clark. Lex had been the one she wanted to *test* it on. And she felt kind of uncomfortable now.

“Well I’d better head back home,” she said, and began walking past Clark. “There’s no need to leave,” said Clark, grabbing her gently by the wrist, “not yet anyway.” He pulled her closer to him and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Em Clark, what…what are you doing?”

“What I wanted to do when Lex interrupted us,” he said and pressed his mouth to hers. ‘So unlike Lex,’ she thought. Clark continued to kiss her and while it was pleasant enough it didn’t set her on fire like Lex’s kisses did.

Chloe pulled back, “Clark, we’re friends, what going on now?”

“Let’s just say Chloe that my eyes have been opened and I can finally see that I’ve been wasting my time pursuing Lana.”

“Really, and now all of a sudden you’re what, going to *pursue* me?”

“Yep, that’s pretty much it,” he said with a grin.

“Well Clark as nice as that sentiment sounds,” She replied, stepping out of his arms, “I don’t want to be pursued.” ‘Well not by you,’ she thought.

“Do you really think you have a choice in this Chloe?” said Clark matter-of-factly. “I can’t resist you, my every waking moment is filled with thoughts of you and then at night my dreams are the same. I can’t get you out of my mind Chloe.”

‘Could he *be* anymore clichéd,’ she thought. “I mean it Clark, I’ll never speak to you again. We’re friends and I would like that to continue.”

“Friends is NOT enough Chloe.” He stalked closer and for the first time since she had known him Chloe was actually afraid of Clark. Chloe decided to change tactics and get Clark into a better mood. “I didn’t mean it like that Clark, it’s just going to take me awhile to get *use* to the change in our relationship,” she began, “maybe we could move things along slowly and secretly.” ‘Very secretly,’ she thought.

Clark thought abut what she said for a moment then gave her a nig smile. “Ok, we can take it slowly, but I want everyone to know we’re together.”

‘Shit,’ she thought. She reached her hand out and began rubbing his chest gently. “Please Clark, let’s keep it secret.” Clark shivered at the feel of her hand. ”Ok,” he said and Chloe breathed a sigh of relief and let him kiss her again. “You should get back to school,” she said when they parted. “I need to…to get home because my dad will be calling.”

“I suppose,” sighed Clark, “but I *will* be waiting for you tomorrow to go to school.”

“I look forward to it,” she lied and they walked back to her car. “I’d give you a ride Clark, but the school thinks I’m sick.”

“It’s ok Chloe, I’ll make my own way back.” He kissed her cheek and she got into her, waved to him and took off as fast as she could for her house.

Clark smiled till she was out of sight and then ran back to school.

--------------------------------------------------

“Mr Fordman, a word if you don’t mind,” said Lex as he approached the football player. They were at the back of the school and no one else was around. “What do *you* want?” said Whitney turning to face Lex.

“I just wanted to give you some advice, advice that you should take for your own well-being.”

“Quit talking in riddles Luthor.”

“Mr Fordman, I will say this only once,” said Lex as he walked right up to Whitney, “stay away from Chloe.”

A smug grin appeared on Whitney’s face, “you don’t *own* her Luthor, I can *go* near her if I like.”

“SHE is *MINE* Fordman.”

“Really now, well she let *me* kiss her. Bet you haven’t got that close.”

‘That and a lot more,’ thought Lex and caught someone approaching out of the corner of his eye. “What Chloe and I do is none of your business,” he said with a smirk.

“I asked her out,” said a smug Whitney.

“And she turned you down and kicked you out of her car,” said Pete coming around the corner. He had caught Whitney’s last comment. ‘Advantage me,’ thought Lex. “Mr Ross you have impeccable timing.”

Pete barely acknowledged Lex’s presence; his fury was directed at Whitney. Even since Chloe had told him about the incident yesterday he had been trying to get Fordman alone. “Mr Fordman here was going on and on about the numerous ungentle-manly things he wanted to do with *your* friend Chloe.”

“As if Chloe would be interested in *you*,” sneered Pete at Whitney.

“Better chance than you Ross.” By now they were face to face, their fists clenched by their sides. ‘Well my work here is done,’ thought Lex and left, his leaving went unnoticed by the other two. “Bastard.” Lex heard Pete say and then the crunching sound of a fist connecting with a jaw.

Lex smiled to himself as he headed to his car.

--------------------------------------------------

By the time Chloe had got home she was seriously considering joining a convent. Of course she had thought about what it would be like to be desired by every man but never did she think it would be like this. Her best friend had all but threatening her to go out with him. Lex Luthor was staking his claim on her.

She flopped down on the couch and sighed, “I think another sick day tomorrow is in order,” she mumbled to herself. She closed her eyes and sighed again. A couple of minutes later the doorbell rang. “Go away,” she shouted. But the bell rang again. “Damn it,” she said and got up. Opening the door she saw a deliveryman standing there with what looked like about fifty roses in his hands. Whites, yellows and pinks of every shade made up the large bouquet.

“Miss Sullivan?” he asked with a smile. Chloe nodded and he pushed the flowers into her hands, “Wish these were from me,” he said, looking intently at her. Chloe rolled her eyes. “Thanks,” she muttered and stepped back to close the door.

“Are you busy tonight,” he asked as she closed over the door. “Unfortunately I’m *very* busy for the next five years,” and shut the door in his face. “Call me if you’re free,” he shouted through the door. She struggled into the kitchen and put the flowers on the kitchen table. “They are really beautiful,” she said as she looked for a card. Although she had guessed they were probably from Lex Luthor.

A knock on the back door startled her slightly. “Now what?” Cautiously she went over to the door, but didn’t open it. She glanced out the window but didn’t see anyone or thing. A second knock, louder this time, echoed throughout the kitchen. Taking a deep breath she opened the door a little and then opened it wide.

Leaning against the doorframe was Lex, twirling a single red rose between his fingers. “Miss me, my love?” he said with a smirk.

Chapter Seven – Sweet Surrender

Chloe rolled her eyes at Lex. She was *so* not in the mood for this. It had been a really shitty day so far and things could only get worse if she didn’t stand her ground now and get rid of him. ‘But remember how he made you feel,’ a voice inside her spoke up.

“Aren’t you going to invite me in Chloe”

“I *really* don’t think that would be a good idea Lex. Thanks for the flowers they are beautiful. But I think you should go.” Chloe couldn’t believe how calm she sounded, even though her heart was pounding in her chest.

Lex reached out the hand that held the rose and gently brushed the flower over Chloe’s cheek and neck. “I don’t want to go Chloe and you don’t want me to either,” he whispered.

“Please Lex,” she said and closed her eyes, trying to block him out.

“Let me my love, let me *please* you. Let me bring you to new heights of pleasure.”

Chloe whimpered as he continued to run the delicate petals over her face. During this time while her eyes were closed, Lex had stepped into the kitchen and closed the back door. When she opened her eyes Lex was right in front of her. “This isn’t right Lex,” she whispered, as he slid his arms around her waist.

“Of course it is,” he whispered back, pulling her close. “I want you, you want me. Could it be any clearer?” He nuzzled her neck; placing light kisses all the way up to her ear. “We were interrupted the last time Chloe, that is *not* going to happen this time.”

‘Got to stop this,’ she thought, ‘got to stop this NOW.’

Lex covered her mouth with his and she gasped slightly. Seizing the advantage he slipped his tongue into her mouth and gently caressed hers. Chloe grabbed Lex’s shoulders and kissed him back. He pulled her hips closer to his.

“So beautiful,” he murmured when they parted, “and all *mine*.”

“That’s it,” she said, disentangling herself from his arms, “this whole possessive thing has got to stop. I am NOT yours. I am nobody’s. I do not belong to anyone. Jeez, what is it with guys and the whole ‘mine’ thing. That may work on the brainless bimbos you normally hang out with Lex but NOT with me.” Chloe was really angry now, rage and desire where fighting for control of her emotions.

Lex just stood there, smiling at her ranting.

“And wipe that smile of your face Luthor.”

Fury and lust coursed through Chloe’s veins. She was angry at Lex, Clark, Pete, Whitney, the delivery man, in fact every member of the male race. She was angry with herself and that damn disappearing pond that started all of this. And lust, pure undiluted lust for the incredibly irritating and sexy man before her. ‘What’s happening to me?’ she thought. She couldn’t control herself.

“Leave Lex,” she said. ‘Get out before I surrender completely,’ she implored silently to herself.

“No,” was all he said as he leaned against the kitchen table.

“I want you out of my house. Go or I’ll…I’ll call the police,” she cringed at the lack of confidence that rang in her voice.

“I don’t think so Chloe.”

“Please Lex, please go. We are only going to do something we’ll both regret if you stay. You don’t really want me, something happened to me and it’s made…its made guys go kind of crazy.” She turned her back to him, praying that for once Lex Luthor would actually do what he was told. She heard him walk over to her.

“How can you and I making love be regretful?” he whispered in her ear. He wasn’t touching her but she could *feel* him behind her, feel his breath on her ear. “Finding pleasure in each other’s bodies, and as for not wanting you, don’t be absurd, I’ve *always* wanted you Chloe.”

He ran a finger down her arm, “let me have you Chloe? Let me touch and kiss every inch of your body.” He moved his hands to her t-shirt and grabbed the ends, slowly lifting it up her body. “Lift your arms.”

Chloe bit her lip and closed her eyes. ‘This is it, the point of no return,’ she thought. She didn’t really want to refuse him; she wanted him, badly. ‘Do it,’ her body cried and her eyes flashed a bright green.

Almost in slow motion she raised her arms over her head and Lex took her shirt off, throwing it on the kitchen floor. He ran his hands over her stomach and up to her breasts where he cupped them through the lacy material of her bra. Chloe threw her head back against his shoulder and arched her back, pushing her breasts further into his hands. He squeezed them gently. “Well Chloe, can I have you?”

She turned quickly in his arms and pressed her lips to his, running her tongue along them. ‘Gotcha,’ he thought and opened his mouth for her, their tongues clashing. “Upstairs,” she moaned when they parted.

They practically ran up the stairs to her bedroom, no sooner was the door closed when Lex pushed her up against it. Chloe pushed his jacket off his shoulders and he let it fall to the ground. She grabbed his shirt and pulled it apart, buttons flying everywhere. He took the remnants of his shirt off and unhooked Chloe’s bra, letting it join the growing pile of clothes on the floor.

He pulled her against him and groaned at the feeling of her bare breasts against his chest. She pulled his head and claimed his mouth again. Lex walked backward, their mouth’s still joined, and when he felt her bed behind him he fell back onto it pulling Chloe on top of him.

Chloe straddle his waist and sat up, grinding against him slowly. “Oh Chloe,” he groaned.
Sliding his hands from her waist, up her sides, to her breasts, he teased the nipples into hard points. He sat up and placed his lips over one, suckling it gently before moving to its twin. In the frantic minutes the followed they removed the rest of each other’s clothing.

Chloe was on fire, every time Lex kissed or licked a part of her body the skin felt scorched. She didn’t care that this was wrong, she didn’t care that Lex only wanted her because of the weird thing that happened. Lex decided he was addicted to her skin and it was an addiction he intended on feeding. Her whimpers and moans were driving him crazy. As was the way she chanted his name over and over.

He crawled back up her body and settled his own between her legs. He kissed her hard as he slid two fingers into her. “So wet and tight,” he murmured. She pressed against his fingers trying to get the friction she needed. “Oh please…please Lex,” she groaned. Swiftly he removed his fingers and began to slowly slide his throbbing shaft into her. He moaned her name as her internal muscles began to spasm around him. He covered her mouth again and thrust deep all the way in, his mouth swallowing her cry.

Finding control her never knew he possessed he held still as she adjusted to his intrusion. He looked into her eyes and began a slow rhythm. She shifted her legs and wrapped them loosely around his hips. Her hands clawed at his back as he moved harder and faster.

Lex wasn’t going to last much longer, her body writhing beneath his was pushing him over the edge. Suddenly her pleas for him not to stop ceased and she arched her back as she climaxed. The sensation was too much for Lex and he allowed his body its own release. He collapsed onto her and both struggled to catch their breaths. ‘Oh wow, oh wow,’ ran through Chloe’s mind as her body still hummed from her orgasm, and the delicious feel of Lex’s body on hers.

He rolled on his side taking Chloe with him till they faced each other. He brushed her hair from her eyes and smiled warmly at her. She smiled shyly back, and unsure of what to say kissed him gently instead. Both groaned as he slipped from inside her. Lex pulled a sheet over them and held her close.

‘Mine,’ he thought smugly.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe woke to the sensation of Lex kissing the back of her neck. She moved and he tightened his arm around her waist. “Going somewhere,” he asked and she could hear the humour in his voice. “Well, I do have school today,” she said turning to face him. ‘Only in Smallville, under the influence of God-knows what, would I wake up naked beside Lex Luthor,’ she thought.

“No you don’t,” he said. “I’ll tell them you felt hot and sweaty and I kept you in *bed*.”

Chloe laughed for a minute, but then reality hit like a ton of bricks. What happened now? What was Lex going to think of her whenever this *thing* wears off? She actually wasn’t going to go to school, she wanted to do more research and she didn’t want Lex distracting her like Clark did…She sat up in the bed, “Clark,” she said, “oh shit.”

“What about *Clark*?” said Lex.

‘Damn,’ she thought. “I met Clark yesterday,” she said getting out of bed and throwing on some clothes. “Hey he’s my best friend, why shouldn’t I see him?”

Lex just narrowed his eyes and followed her out of bed, pulling on his pants. “And what happened?”

“It’s really kind of funny Lex,” she started. Seeing how Clark acted yesterday when she had refused him and knowing how possessive Lex was being she hoped this worked. “You see Clark, for some *strange* reason thinks that…and you will laugh…thinks that he and I are dating.”

“I’ll kill him,” shouted Lex. ‘The cellar in the mansion would be a perfect grave for him,’ he thought.

“There will be *no* killing of anybody,” said Chloe moving towards him. She put her arms around him and began kissing him gently. Lex felt his anger dissipate and kissed her back. “We’ll go to Metropolis for the day,” he announced, “I’ll take you shopping, we can eat in town, spend the day together.”

Chloe groaned, she wanted to find out more about what was wrong with her and Clark was going to be so pissed when he found out she wasn’t in school. But Lex looked like he wasn’t taking no for an answer. “Sure,” she said, “that’s sound like great fun.”

‘And it will keep you away from Clark,’ he thought. “Excellent,” he said, “well my love you get ready then we’ll swing by the mansion for me to get changed and then onto Metropolis.”

Chloe smiled weakly at him. ‘I’ve got a really bad feeling about this,’ she thought, ‘a *really* bad feeling.’

Chapter Eight – Out of Control

They were less than thirty minutes at Lex’s before they headed off again. And now here they were on the road to Metropolis. Lex drove fast but not as fast as he usually went. He was going on about where they’d go and what they’ll do. Chloe half-listened to him, her mind was more focused on what had happened.

She had sex. SEX with Lex Luthor and even though it had been incredible, a line had now been so far crossed. The odd kiss here and there like those with Whitney and Clark were ok and harmless enough. But going to the extreme with Lex as not good. Sex is an incredibly intimate act and she had always pictured losing her virginity under completely different settings. Granted she had dreamed about having sex with Lex, but hell she dreamt about having sex with Vin Diesel and Josh Harnett as well.

She sighed softly; things were getting out of control. Hindsight was a great thing, she shouldn’t of let her hormones control things yesterday with Lex but what’s done was done. She only hoped that when things got back to some sort of normality Lex and the others, like with the Nicodemus flower, would forget everything.

She sighed again, a little louder this time. Lex heard her and put his hand on her knee squeezing it gently. She put her hand over his and smiled at him before looking out the window again.

--------------------------------------------------

Clark stood waiting in the Torch office for Chloe. All yesterday afternoon and evening he had resisted calling her. He had promised to take things slowly and as much as it was killing him to do so he would honour his promise to her.

The door opened and he turned to greet Chloe. The smile fell from his face when he saw that it was Pete, a rather bruised and battered Pete for that matter. “Jeez Pete, what the hell happened to you?

“You didn’t hear,” asked Pete, gingerly lowering himself into a seat.

“Hear what?”

“Me and Fordman had a fight.”

Clark’s eyes widened, “and does he look as good as you?”

“No man, he looks a lot worse,” said Pete with a grin.

“What were the two of you fighting about?”

“Chloe,” said Pete. “Did you know that Fordman kissed her and asked her out? She turned him down of course…Hey Clark you ok?”

Clark was ready to explode. “When did she talk to you about that?” he asked through clenched teeth. “A couple of days ago. And as soon as I heard I’ve been dying to get Fordman alone. Yesterday I came across him talking to Lex Luthor and I seized the chance.”

“Lex was there?”

Pete nodded. “So where’s Chloe?” he asked after a moment, “she still not feeling well?”

“Looks so,” said Clark absently. ‘Lex is up to something,’ he thought. “I got to go Pete, I’ll see you later,” and with that Clark left.

--------------------------------------------------

Despite her initial reservations Chloe found she really enjoyed spending time with Lex. They had lunch at an exclusive restaurant and it was perfect, except for the moment Lex practically growled at the waiter for putting his hand on her shoulder. He was soon replaced with a waitress and Lex was much happier. And now here they were walking along the streets. ‘This is nice,’ she thought.

“Where to next Chloe?”

“I don’t know. This was *your* idea Lex.”

Lex was about to answer her when an unwelcome voice called out his name. “Hello *dad*,” he said as Lionel Luthor’s limo pulled up beside them. Chloe noticed Lex’s demeanour change immediately as did his grip on her hand.

“Taking in the sights I see son,” said the older Luthor when he got out of the car and looked Chloe up and down. ‘Ok, I’m officially freaked out,’ she thought and pressed herself closer to Lex.

“Well aren’t you delightful my dear,” he said to Chloe moving closer. He frowned at their joined hands, but that changed into a smile when he looked back to Chloe’s face. “Wouldn’t you rather be travelling around inside a warm limo?” He reached his hand out to Chloe.

“DON’T TOUCH HER,” spat out a furious Lex.

‘Chloe the peacemaker Sullivan to the rescue again,’ she thought. “Gentlemen,” she said, stepping between them, but still holding Lex’s hand. “Thank you for the offer Mr Luthor,” she directed to Lionel, “but I’m more than happy to walk.” She forced herself to give him a bright smile, which he returned. “Some other time then,” he took her hand quickly and placed a kiss on it. Chloe shuddered and Lex seethed.

“Bye son. Goodbye my dear,” and he got back into his limo and told the chauffeur to drive off.

Chloe turned to look at Lex, his face was hard and his jaw clenched. ‘Boy he looks pissed.’ She cupped her cheek and turned him to face her. “You were about to tell me what we were going to do next,” she said, giving him a genuine smile.

Lex blinked a couple of times and looked at her and then pulled her tight against him and kissed her passionately. Chloe was breathless when he released her. “We are going shopping,” he said with a smirk. Taking her hand again they began walking down the street. ‘Crises averted,’ she thought, ‘well for the time being anyway.’

--------------------------------------------------

Clark banged on Chloe’s front door for a third time. Standing back from it he used his x-ray vision to scan the interior and saw that no one was home.

‘She lied,’ he thought. He then turned and ran to Lex’s house. A couple of minutes later he was there, banging on the door. Moments later it was opened by the housekeeper.

‘She’s new,’ thought Clark. “Is Lex in?” he asked.

“No, Mr Luthor is out for the day. Would you like to leave him a message?” she said.

“No, no message. Do you know where he has gone?”

“I’m afraid I don’t. He just said that he wouldn’t be back until much later, and then he left with a pretty blonde girl.”

“BLONDE girl.”

“Yes,” said the housekeeper, “they seemed quite close.”

“Thanks,” muttered Clark and walked away from the door. He heard it close behind him. “I am going to KILL Lex,” he whispered. “Metropolis,” he muttered, “he’d take her to Metropolis.” And then took off running again.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe discovered the name Luthor opened many doors. They were on the top floor of Metropolis’ most exclusive and therefore most expensive store. After the run in with his father, Lex had decided to treat himself to a new car. “Well it has been almost six months since I last bought one,” he told her with a smile. And he was now the owner of a silver BMW sports car, which he insisted on Chloe picking. She liked him like this, laughing and joking and completely drugging her with amazing kisses.

‘Pity it won’t last,’ her inner voice spoke up. “Screw you,” she whispered as she tried on the dress she had picked.

Lex was in a better mood now. Oh his father’s little stunt on Chloe earlier wouldn’t go without retribution but his mood was much better. He looked around the room the store manager had directed them into. It was medium sized with full-length mirrors covering the walls. There was one door for getting in and out and a small dressing room on the other side of the room.

His eyes were drawn to Chloe stepping out into his view. The deep red silk dress clung to her body like a second skin. Slits on either side went as high as her thighs. “Magnificent,” he said as his eyes took her in.

Chloe blushed slightly at the intense look in his eyes. “I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman,” she said to him.

“You are more beautiful than Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman,” he said, walking over to her. Chloe blushed deeper, only Lex could pull off delivering a line like that.

“You look incredible in red,” he said, running his hand along her collarbone. His mouth soon followed the path of his hand. The sight of Lex kissing her was reflected in the mirrors around the room and Chloe groaned. She felt his hand reach under the dress.

“Lex, stop, we can’t,” she gasped. “Shush my love,” and then kissed her, his tongue sweeping through her mouth. His hand moved higher up her thigh and she instinctively spread her legs a little more. She allowed herself to be pushed against one of the mirrors. There was something incredibly erotic about watching Lex slowly lift the dress up her legs in the mirrors.

Suddenly the door flew open and an extremely angry Clark Kent stormed in. “Get your fucking hands off her Luthor.”

Lex just smirked at Clark and stood back a little from Chloe but kept his hands on her waist. “Chloe *likes* my hands on her.”

“Bastard,” he hissed Clark, “you forced her to come with you.”

“Clark, calm down please,” pleaded Chloe, moving away from the mirror and Lex’s hands. “This is crazy we are all friends here.” Clark’s eyes moved from Lex to Chloe. She smiled at him, “please Clark take it easy.” Lex moved behind Chloe and placed an arm around her waist. ‘Damn it Lex,’ she thought as she saw Clark’s eyes dart to where Lex’s arm was.

“Get out of the way Chloe.”

“Clark…”

“Out of the fucking way” he shouted.

She felt Lex gently push her to the side and out of the line of fire. ‘This has to stop,’ she thought. Clark began walking towards Lex, getting angrier with each step he took and Lex just stood there smirking at him. But Chloe could see that he was gearing up for a fight as well. Clark and Lex were almost face-to-face. “Would you like to know where my *hands* have been Clark?” taunted Lex.

Clark just lost it and pulled back his arm to punch Lex when Chloe grabbed hold of it. He pushed her away violently, forgetting his strength. She flew back with such force that she slammed into the wall. The sickening sound of her head cracking against the mirror echoed around the room and she slumped to the ground.

“Chloe,” Lex and Clark said at the same time as they both looked at her lifeless body with horror.

Chapter Nine – Confiding

“You SON OF A BITCH,” screamed Lex at Clark. He ran over to Chloe and knelt down beside her while Clark just stood there, his mind unable to process what had just happened.

The manager from the store appeared. “Call an ambulance,” Lex shouted at him, and he scurried off.

“Please Chloe, please wake up,” he pleaded with her, and gently stroked her hair.

“I…I…” began Clark, “I’m so sorry.”

“A bit late for that Clark isn’t it. I hope you’re happy now.”

Clark made a move towards Chloe, but Lex jumped up and stood in front of her. “Stay away from her Clark, I think you’ve done more than enough damage.”

“Mr Luthor, the ambulance is here,” said the manager, and seconds later two paramedics rushed into the room and went straight over to Chloe.

“Can someone tell me what happened?” asked one of them.

“She cracked her head off the mirror,” said Lex, his gaze on Clark. “I haven’t moved her and she hasn’t woke up at all.”

“What’s her name and how old is she? And was she knocked out immediately?”

“Her name is Chloe Sullivan and she’s 17. And yes the moment she connected with the mirror she was knocked out,” said Lex, “is she going to be ok?”

“We’ll know soon enough,” he said sympathetically. “She’s very attractive,” he added, “especially in that dress.”

“I *really* don’t think that this is the time or place for that,” said Lex, keeping his anger in check.

“She’s ok to move,” said the other paramedic, “we’re taking her to Metropolis General.”

“I’m going with you,” said Lex. “So am I,” said Clark. Lex glared at him.

“I’m GOING Lex,” said Clark.

Lex said nothing and just followed the others out of the room, not caring whether Clark followed or not.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex was pacing the private waiting room the doctor had put them in. This waiting for news on Chloe was driving him crazy. Clark sat in one of the seats, his head in his hands. Neither man had said a word to the other since the got to the hospital.

‘She better be ok,’ thought Lex, ‘or I will make Clark Kent suffer. I’ll destroy his parents and everyone else he cares for before destroying him if she’s not ok. And if she is ok, I’ll just destroy him.’

‘What have I done?’ thought Clark, ‘I nearly killed Chloe. It’s all Luthor’s fault, none of this would of happened if he hadn’t of *dragged* her to Metropolis. She would have been safe with me in Smallville, and now…now she’s hurt.’

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe slowly opened her eyes and then quickly closed them again. “Not a good idea,” she muttered. Her head was throbbing. She again tried to open her eyes. When she got them opened far enough and focused, she saw a woman standing looking at her, a kindly smile on her face.

“Welcome back, she said.

“Where am I? And why does my head feel like someone using a pneumatic drill on it?”

“You are in Metropolis General Hospital. I am Doctor Hope Morley and you’ve taken a very nasty bang to the head. You’ve been unconscious for the last two hours.”

Chloe closed her eyes again and let the doctor’s words sink in.

“What do you remember?”

Chloe opened her eyes again. “I was trying on a dress and then Lex and I were…well that’s not really important,” she hurried, blushing, “then Clark came storming in, he and Lex had words and were about to start fighting. I, boy do I feel like a fool now, jumped in to stop them and got pushed. Then everything’s a blank and I’m waking up in a hospital.”

“Is Lex here?” she asked after a minute.

“Mr Luthor is in the waiting room and there’s a Mr Kent with him.”

“Please tell me you didn’t leave them alone together,” groaned Chloe.

The doctor laughed, “They are under strict instructions to behave themselves. There was one other thing I wanted to discuss with you Chloe.”

“That sounds ominous, I am *ok* aren’t I?” Asked a nervous Chloe.

“Everything is fine Chloe. It’s just that you seem to have a lot of hormonal activity going on, even for a teenager. Your pheromone levels are off the chart. Are you sexually active?”

Chloe blushed, “well only recently. I’ve actually only had sex once.” ‘Well almost twice but Clark interrupted,’ she added to herself.

“We didn’t find any toxins in your bloodstream, but Chloe are you taking any kind of drugs?”

“No doctor, unless you count caffeine as a drug. Oh and I’m on the Pill as well.” Chloe bit her lip for a moment, wondering whether or not to confide in the doctor.

Dr. Morley watched as a number of emotions played across Chloe’s face. “What else is there Chloe?”

Chloe took a deep breath, “first off doc I need you to keep an open mind and yes I know I just took a bang to the head, but please open mind.”

The doctor nodded her head for Chloe to continue.

“I live in Smallville and as a result of a meteor shower a while back, *strange* things happen. A few days ago I was checking out this little pond in the woods that I overheard people talking about. When I got out there, nothing, just a boring pond, anyway I fell in, got wet went home got cleaned up and went to bed. To cut a long and boring story short since then I’ve been well…well, pretty much irresistible to men.”

The doctor was silent for a while. Finally it got too much for Chloe, “you think I’m crazy, don’t you?”

“Well it’s a little off the wall I have to admit. But I don’t have a reason as to why your hormones are all over the place so I’m not going to discount anything and I’ve always like to think of myself as open minded. I have blood samples from you and I’ll start running a few more tests and see if I can come up with anything. I take it you’re looking for a cure.”

“Hell yes,” said Chloe quickly.

“So where the two men outside fighting over you?”

“Yes,” sighed Chloe, “and to think they are best friends, or at least where until this started.”

“You don’t sound too happy Chloe for someone who’s living what is a lot of women’s fantasy,” she said with a smile.

“Believe me it’s not as much fun as you think,” Chloe said with a smile, “have you any idea how possessive guys are?”

The doctor laughed. “I’ll do more tests for you, I have your number etc and I’ll be in touch.”

“Does that mean I can get out of here?”

“Let’s just keep you under observation for a couple more hours and then you can leave. Oh both Mr Luthor and Mr Kent have been asking to see you since you were brought in. Are you up to seeing them?”

Chloe groaned, “Not together I’m not. Tell Clark to come in first. And just ignore Lex, because believe me he will give out.”

The doctor smiled at Chloe, left the room and made her way to Lex and Clark. “Mr Luthor, Mr Kent,” she said entering the waiting room. “Miss Sullivan is fine, apart from a very nasty headache that is.”

“Can I see her?” asked both of them at once.

“Only one at a time,” said the doctor. “And she asked to see Mr Kent first.”

Clark looked smugly at Lex, who in turn looked ready to explode. Lex opened his mouth to tell the doctor that he was Lex Luthor and didn’t she realise he probably paid her salary when she held up her hand. “Chloe also told me to ignore you Mr Luthor and that you’d probably give out. Mr Kent if you’d like to follow me.”

Lex watched through narrowed eyes as Clark followed the doctor.

--------------------------------------------------------

Clark took a deep breath and then walked in Chloe’s room. ‘She looks so small and pale,’ he thought. Chloe turned her head to him. “Clark.”

“Oh Chloe, I am so, so sorry, I never meant for *you* to get hurt, I…”

“You what Clark? You only meant for Lex to get hurt, is that what you’re saying? And what the hell have your parents being feeding you? You must of pushed me across the entire room.”

“Chloe, it’s Lex fault that you’re hurt,” pleaded Clark.

“Lex’s fault, how the fuck is it his fault? Was he the one that pushed me? Because I could of sworn it was you.” Chloe closed her eyes; her head was start to pound again.

“You said we were together Chloe,” whispered Clark.

She opened her eyes again, “no Clark, you said we were together, I only agreed because at the time you were scaring me.”

Clark opened his mouth to speak, but Chloe held up her hand and continued, “You’re one of my best friends Clark and I care for you a lot. But…but I’m not attracted to you, sure you’re really cute but we’ve always been friends and that’s all I want. I’m very flattered by your attention Clark but this crap with Lex has to stop.”

“So you’re with him then,” sneered Clark.

Chloe sighed, “I’m not with anybody Clark. Please promise me this is now finished and we’ll forget about the headache.” She smiled.

“Ok Chlo,” he leaned down and kissed her forehead. “I’m gonna head back home, see you tomorrow?”

“I’ll see you tomorrow Clark, and thanks.”

Clark left and walked quickly passed the waiting room, he turned to glare at Lex briefly, ‘this is far from over Luthor,’ he thought, and turned away again, heading to the exit.

--------------------------------------------------------

Lex smirked to himself when he saw Clark leave and he headed down to Chloe’s room. He looked and saw her lying there, eyes closed. He moved slowly into the room and sat in the chair beside her bed and took her hand in his.

“Hey,” she said opening her eyes.

“Hey back.” He smiled at her briefly then a frown marred his features.

“What wrong Lex?”

“You got hurt Chloe, he hurt you, badly and then…then you asked to see *him* first.”

Chloe would of rolled her eyes at his words but she was sure the action would cause her head to hurt again. “Stop being such a baby Lex. Jeez I don’t know who is worse you or Clark.”

“What’s that suppose to mean?”

“You asked to see him first, you only want to be friends,” she said in a singsong voice.

“So you told Kent that it was just friendship,” he asked with a smile on face.

“Don’t get any ideas Luthor.”

‘Victory,’ thought Lex smugly. “Snap out of it Alexander,” she said, “and get that stupid smug look off your face. Men are such jerks.”

Lex said nothing he just leaned over and kissed her lips gently. “When can you get out of here?” he asked. “Couple of hours the doc said,” she replied.

“Rest Chloe.”

“Will you still…”

“Yes I’ll be here,” he said.

--------------------------------------------------------

Clark stood outside the hospital fuming; he had watched them since Lex had entered her room. He watched as she fell asleep with Lex’s hand still in her own.

“FAR from over,” he whispered and began to run back to Smallville.

Chapter Ten – Enough Is Enough

Chloe was glad to be home. The doctor had passed her fit enough to leave. She was feeling a bit happier since talking to Dr Morley about everything that was going on; Chloe found she liked confiding in the older woman. The doctor said she would run more tests and give her a call in a few days with whatever her findings were. Chloe was feeling hopeful that things would soon be back to normal, although a part of her was worried about what Lex would think of her.

“Are you ok?” Lex’s voice broke her reverie.

“I’m fine, just a little tired.”

“Well you need to stay awake for a few more hours to take your painkillers and then you can sleep as much as you like.”

“Yes Dr Luthor,” mumbled Chloe.

She settled herself onto the couch and Lex sat down beside her. “What a day?” she sighed.

“Turn around,” said Lex. She looked at him with a confused look on her face. Lex took her shoulders and turned her slightly so that her back was to him and he began to gently massage them.

His hands danced up and down her back and all over her neck and shoulders. “That feels so good,” she moaned softly.

Lex just smiled, as his touch became more of a caress and he slipped his hands under her shirt. Chloe sighed contentedly as his skilful hands stroked her skin. He hands reached around and cupped her breasts, causing her to gasp.

She put her hands over his and pulled them away gently. “Lex, as much as I would love to finish what we started in the store,” she said turning to face him, “I can’t…now…it’s just...”

Lex kissed her nose, “I understand, I just can’t resist you.”

Chloe smiled at his words. ‘But for how long?’ she thought, ‘soon you won’t think of me at all, like you did before this happened.’ She snuggled beside him and he wrapped his arms around her. A few minutes later the phone rang. “I’ll get it,” said Lex.

“No,” replied Chloe, “it could be my dad and I really don’t want to explain to him why *you* are here.” She reached for the phone, “hello.”

“Hi sweetie.”

“Hi dad, how are things?”

“They are fine. Are you ok, you sound kind of tired?”

“I’ve been working late on the Torch,” she lied. Lex cocked an eyebrow at her lie.

“Well don’t overdo it honey,” said Gabe, “you need to take care of yourself.”

“I know dad, don’t worry I’ll look after myself.”

“You better. Anyway I was just calling to see how you were and too say hello.”

“I miss you dad,” she said honestly. “I miss you too sweetie but I’ll be home soon. Love you.”

“I love you too, bye.” “Bye Chlo.” And both hung up the phone.

Chloe sighed and settled back beside Lex. “You should probably head home soon,” she said to him. “I promise to stay awake till it’s time for my pills.”

“I’m NOT going anywhere Chloe, I’m going to stay here tonight. Or we could *both* go back to my place.”

“There’s no need for you to stay…” she began.

“Chloe, there’s no use in arguing, I’m *not* leaving.”

Chloe sighed, normally she would have argued with him but she was too tried and her head was starting to hurt again. “Fine, fine,” she said irritably, “I’m going to change I’ll be down in a little while.”

“Need any help?” asked Lex suggestively.

“No thank you Lex,” she said with a little laugh, “I can manage. I’ll be back soon.” And with that went upstairs to her bedroom.

--------------------------------------------------

Whitney Fordman was parked just down the street from Chloe’s house, he had seen her go in with Lex but so far Luthor hadn’t left yet. He shifted in his seat and groaned slightly at the pain in his ribs. “Damn Ross,” he muttered. His eyes caught the light coming on in one of the upstairs rooms. ‘Interesting,’ he thought. He got out of his car and made his way to Chloe’s house, moving to the side where the light had come on.

--------------------------------------------------

Pete Ross watched as Whitney made his way to Chloe’s house. ‘Naughty, naughty Fordman,’ he thought. ‘You were told to stay away from her. Chloe’s MY girl.’

With that he silently made his way in the same direction as Whitney.

--------------------------------------------------

“What the hell is going on?” whispered Clark as he saw both Whitney and Pete make their way to Chloe’s. He was still fuming over the fact that LEX was still there with her. Clark had convinced himself that she was just a little pissed about the accident and when she calmed down and forgave him completely she would forget to whole, ‘we’re only friends’ thing.

He wasn’t worried about Pete or Whitney, she would *never* be interested in either of them. But he got the impression that Chloe sort of *liked* Lex a little and that wouldn’t do at all, but it would soon pass. As soon as the two of them were together she’d forget all about Lex Luthor.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe stripped down to her underwear and rummaged in her dresser for a pair of comfortable pyjamas to put on. She was really feeling quite tired now and just wanted to stay awake long enough to take her painkillers and then she wanted to sleep.

Whitney groaned at the sight of Chloe Sullivan’s silk clad ass wriggling as she rummaged through drawers. He was balanced precariously on the balcony looking in her bedroom window.

“Ah found them,” exclaimed Chloe, pulling a pair of baby blue cotton pyjamas out. She pulled on the bottoms and then the top. She turned around, saw a face at the window and screamed loud.

Lex bolted up from the couch when he heard her scream and ran up the stairs. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

“Someone…someone at the window,” she said, pointing to it.

Lex ran over to the window and looked out, he saw nothing. “There’s no one out there Chlo, you’ve had a nasty bang to the head, maybe it was your imagination.”

“Don’t treat me like a baby Lex, I *know* I saw someone.”

“I’ll go outside and check,” he said, “you stay in here.” Both made their way back down, Lex opened the front door and looked out.

“You just couldn’t stay away from her,” snarled Clark and he pulled Lex out of the house and threw him on the ground.

Before Lex could respond Pete and Whitney came into view. “What are you doing here Kent?” shouted Whitney. “At least I wasn’t the one peeping through her window,” retorted Clark.

“You were spying on her you pervert,” said Pete, “you must really want another beating.”

Lex got up off the ground and stormed over to Whitney, “you son of a bitch,” he yelled at him. Soon all four men were standing around each other, trading insults, each proclaiming Chloe are their own and things were starting to get really ugly.

Clark didn’t care about the others although Fordman would suffer for the spying incident; no he wanted Lex in pain, lots of pain. He reached out and grabbed Lex by the throat and started squeezing, Lex struggled in vain and tried to prise Clark’s hands off him but couldn’t, the younger man’s grip was too tight.

“CLARK KENT YOU LET GO OF HIM NOW OR I’LL NEVER SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN,” shouted Chloe. Clark loosened his grip slightly and turned to Chloe. He along with the others where greeted by water as Chloe turned the garden hose she had in her hands on them.

“Jeez Chloe, cut it out,” spluttered Pete. Clark let go of Lex, who fell to the ground, gasping for breath. Soon all four were soaked, and then Chloe turned off the hose.

“You ok?” she asked Lex. He nodded and struggled to his feet, smirking, despite the pain, at Clark.

“That’s it,” said Chloe, “I want all of you gone, now. And that includes you Lex.”

The smirk fell quickly from Lex’s face, “what?”

“You heard me.” She threw his car keys at him, then she walked over to Whitney and slapped him hard across the face, “and that’s for peeking in at me. Bastard.”

“Chloe,” said Lex, reaching out for her. She moved out of his way. “I want you ALL to leave, right now, I am sick and tired of the lot of you. I am not…not a piece of MEAT for you to fight over. Whitney you’re an idiot, you always were in my eyes and always we be, I could never be interested in you. Pete you’re my dearest friend but I think of you as brother.”

She took a deep breath and turned to Lex and Clark. “Clark I have seen a side to you in the last couple of days that has scared me, and until you accept the fact that I’M NOT INTERESTED IN YOU, I don’t want to see you.”

She rubbed her temples, feeling a headache start again. “And you,” turning to Lex, “I don’t know what to make of you, half the time I want to kiss you and the other half I want to kill you. I am not your belonging, your toy; I’m your nothing. And until you get over that possessive factor I don’t want to see you either.”

She held her hand up when they looked like they were going to speak. “I want you all gone in two minutes or I’m calling the police.” She turned around and stormed into her house, slamming the door shut behind her.

All four men just stood staring at the closed door.

“My God she is magnificent,” said Lex and the other three all found themselves nodding in agreement. Then after a moment they began glaring at each other again. Pete left first mumbling as he walked away. Whitney soon followed.

Clark and Lex stood staring at each other, each waiting for the other to make a move. “You have about thirty seconds left.” Chloe’s voice rang out from the house.

Both moved at the same time away from her house. When Lex reached his car he turned to Clark, “if you ever touch me again Kent I’ll destroy your family before destroying you.”

Clark said nothing; what Chloe said earlier unnerved him and now Lex was making threats against his family.

Lex got into his car and started the engine, “oh Clark and remember Chloe did say she wanted to kiss me,” and then drove off.

When he was out of sight, Clark headed home.

Lex pulled over when he turned off the road to Chloe’s and pulled out his phone and dialled.

“Hello.”

“So my love is it safe for me to come over,” he said.

“Go to hell Lex,” said Chloe hanging up the phone.

“Don’t play hard to get for too long Chloe,” he said as he started the engine again and headed for his own place, “I’m *not* a patient man.”

Chapter Eleven – Aching For You

The Next Day

Chloe grimaced as she swallowed down her painkillers. “Ugh, I hate taking medication,” she muttered as she sat at the kitchen table. She had called the school and told principal Reynolds that she had fallen down the stairs and banged her head, and on the advice of her doctor would be off for the week. He was very sympathetic and told her to take as much time as she needed. She had also told him to give any assignments etc from her classes to Lana to drop off for her. She really couldn’t handle giving an excuse to Pete or Clark to come over to see her.

Since her ultimatum yesterday she hadn’t heard from any of them; well except Lex, oh he’d been ringing all right. She sighed deeply; at one stage she almost caved in and told him to come over, but she didn’t and ended up unplugging the phone for the rest if the night.

“I really hope Dr Morley comes up with a cure,” she whispered to herself, “I want my friends back, I even want the teasing from Whitney and the jock brigade.”

“And I don’t know what I want for Lex,” she added a moment later. She couldn’t deny how he made her feel and if there was ever a reason not to get a cure it was he. Ok, the whole possessive thing was a bit suffocating but his hands, his mouth and that low sexy voice he used when talking to her. Visions of the evening she went for the interview, then the night they made love flooded her mind and she moaned softly.

“It’s his fault,” she reasoned, as she began to tidy up, “all his fault for being so damn hot, how was I suppose to resist him, I’m only human after all.” After a minute she started laughing, “yeah Chlo, like you didn’t want him anyway.”

But her relationship with Lex before all this was non-existent; they talked briefly and were always pleasant enough to each other but that was it. Sure she’d thought about him, he wasn’t the kind of man you easily forgot and yes she always thought he was attractive. But she never entertained any thoughts of a romantic relationship with him, mainly because she knew Lex Luthor would never be interested in her. She didn’t look like the women he was usually seen with nor was she anyway near as *experienced* as they were. Now, thanks to a freaky pond he couldn’t get enough of her. And if she was honest with herself, the thought that a man like Lex Luthor being unable to resist her was an incredible feeling.

“Argh all this thinking is making my head hurt,” she said aloud, and continued on with her tidying.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex sat in his study, his cell-phone in his hand. Chloe refusing to see or even talk to him was driving him crazy. He didn’t know how much longer he could last before going over to her house and just *take* her. Ever since the night they made love, that was all he could think of, he *needed* to be inside her again, to hear her moans and gasps, her body hot and tight around his, the way she chanted his name. Clark interrupted them in the store and she wasn’t up it when they got back after the accident, which incidentally was Clark Kent’s fault as well.

He was addicted to her, and at the moment he felt like he was going cold turkey without her.

“This is fucking ridiculous,” he said to the empty room, “I am Lex Luthor, and she has until 6.00pm this afternoon to call me or I’m going over there and reminding her who she belongs too.”

--------------------------------------------------

Clark, Pete and Whitney religiously avoided each other in school. If there were classes where two or all three shared they completely ignored each other.

Sitting in the cafeteria Lana watched with a confused and slightly amused look on her face as Whitney, Clark and Pete sat as far away from each as possible.

Whitney not sitting near them she could understand, but Pete and Clark were friends why were they avoiding each other?

Lana sighed; neither Whitney nor Clark spent any time with her at all. And she hadn’t found out what Pete and Whitney were fighting about. Maybe Chloe could tell her, she would be dropping off schoolwork to her this afternoon and she could ask.

--------------------------------------------------

Chloe was startled by a knock on the door; she cautiously peered out the window and saw that it was Lana. Breathing a sigh of relief she opened the door. “Hi Lana, come on in.” ‘Ok the world has gone mad, I’m actually happy to see Lana Lang,’ she thought as the other girl stepped in.

“How are you feeling Chloe?” she asked as they made their way to the kitchen. “A lot better,” she replied, “the headaches are almost completely gone.” Both sat down at the table, “can I get you anything Lana, tea, coffee?”

“Coffee would be perfect, thanks.” As Chloe busied herself making the coffee Lana told her about the assignments she had missed and gave her all the notes she needed. She wanted to get this bit over with quickly so she could talk to her about other things.

“Thanks for all these Lana,” said Chloe sincerely a little while later. “So, anything exciting going on at school that I need to know about?”

‘Excellent,’ thought Lana. “Well, do you know what’s going on between Clark, Whitney and Pete?”

Chloe almost choked on her coffee, “oops sorry, it went down the wrong way,” she explained, as she caught her breath.

“They are acting really weird Chloe,” continued Lana, “they are all blatantly ignoring each other, Pete and Whitney had a fight, Clark and Pete aren’t talking. Something weird is going on. Also Whitney doesn’t want to see me anymore, and Clark…Clark barely even notices me.”

‘Welcome to my world before all this,’ thought Chloe. “They’re guys Lana,” joked Chloe weakly, “who knows what goes on in their heads, I doubt they even know themselves.”

“I don’t know Chlo, I think something very strange is going on,” said Lana. “I was talking to a couple of the cheerleaders and they said their boyfriends had broke up with them, they said something about another girl.”

Chloe went pale, “was…was this other girl mentioned?”

“No. Also there seems to be a number of people hanging around the Torch Office. Are you running a special for reporters or something?”

“I wish,” she said with a laugh, but there was a sinking feeling in her stomach. “Lana this Smallville, weird shit happens *all* the time. I’m sure Whitney will be back at your side soon, Clark and Pete will be friends again and said farm boy will go back to gazing longingly at you from a distance.” ‘And I’ll be the invisible friend again’ she thought.

“I suppose so Chloe,” said Lana with a sigh. “Oh,” she exclaimed checking her watch, “it’s after five I need to go.”

“Thanks for dropping by Lana.”

“It was no problem Chloe, I’m glad you’re feeling better. Would you like me to drop by tomorrow afternoon?”

Chloe thought for a moment before answering, “give me a call before you leave school tomorrow and I’ll let you know.”

“Sure will, bye Chloe.”

“Bye Lana.” And Chloe watched Lana get into her car and drive off; when she was out of sight she closed the door. “I think a nice long hot bath is in order,” she murmured, and headed upstairs to run the bath.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex got his driver to drop him off at the turning before Chloe’s house and then told him to go back to the mansion.

Slowly Lex made his way around to her place and using the key he had *borrowed* from her, let himself in. He closed the door silently behind him and looked around downstairs. Seeing no sign of life, he began to climb the stairs.

Pausing at the top when he saw the bathroom door half-open he peeked in and saw Chloe lying in the bath, her head back and eyes closed. Music played softly in the background and the scent of apple filled his senses.

Chloe, not aware of him, sighed and stretched her arms over her head, causing her breasts to rise above the water. Lex felt himself harden as his gaze travelled over her body. Silently he entered the bathroom and moved closer. He knelt down beside the bath and leaned over, whispering in her ear, “Chloe.”

Chloe sat up in the bath and whipped around to face him, “what…what…what the hell are you doing here?” she frantically tried to cover herself and look for a towel at the same time. “How did you get in?”

“Trivial matters,” he replied, “why so modest my love?”

“Hand me a towel Lex, please.”

Smirking he picked up the fluffy towel on the chair and held it open for her. “Bastard,” she hissed, she got out of the bath quickly and went to grab the towel, but Lex just walked forward and wrapped it around her and in the process pulled her against him. He bent down and began kissing her shoulder then her neck. “I’ve missed you Chloe,” he whispered against her skin.

“Lex,” she whimpered, “stop.” But there was no real conviction in her voice, all the time she lay in the bath she thought of only him. He covered her mouth with his, the pressure of his lips forcing hers apart, he angled her head as the kiss deepened and his mouth slowly tasted every part of her mouth. Chloe’s hands, which had been holding her towel, found their way around his shoulders as she held onto him. He felt her lips swell from the kiss, and pulled back slowly, his tongue licking her lips.

‘I should stop this,’ she thought as she looked at him, his eyes almost black with desire. ‘But you don’t want to stop,’ the little devil-Chloe on her shoulder said, ‘you want him.’

Their eyes remained locked as he pulled the towel from her body, “it’s like a physical pain being away from you,” he said. Chloe pulled his sweater off and ran her hands over his chest. He cupped her ass and pulled her against his erection. “You do this,” he moaned and rocked his hips. She unbuckled his belt and unzipped his pants, slipping her hand inside and stroking him gently.

“Chloe,” he moaned. Within seconds she had his clothes off. He lifted her against the wall and she wrapped her legs around him. She felt him against her thigh and shifted slightly. The movement caused him to slip inside her. Lex buried his head in the crook of her neck and breathed shakily, Chloe moved her hips causing him to shift inside her, both groaned at the sensation.

Using his shoulders for leverage she began moving up and down on his cock, he soon caught onto her rhythm and thrusted up as she slid down. Both began to move faster as they grew closer to the release, Chloe grabbed his head and kissed him hard, tightening her legs around him. Minutes later Chloe screamed as she climaxed, quickly followed by Lex.

“Never push me away again Chloe, I can’t bear it,” he said when he caught his breath. “I need you, I love you,” he whispered.

‘No you don’t,’ she thought.

They held each other for a while before moving to Chloe’s bedroom. He kissed her as they fell onto her bed.

--------------------------------------------------

The sound of the phone ringing woke Chloe, she blinked a couple of times and focused in on the clock, 7.00am. She untangled herself from Lex and answered the phone.

“Hello,” she said sleepily.

“Chloe, this is Dr Hope Morley.”

“Dr Morley, hi.”

“Chloe,” she said excitedly, “I believe I’ve found a cure.”

This woke Chloe up fully, “what…a cure.”

“Yes. I can be in Smallville later this morning. Maybe I can call on you and we can go over the details.”

“Yeah, sure,” said Chloe and gave the doctor directions to her house. She hung up the phone and lay back on her pillow. She turned to look at the sleeping Lex, ‘a cure,’ she thought, and her heart felt like breaking.

Chapter Twelve – The Cure

“What are you thinking so hard about?” said Lex with a smile.

“Oh…nothing…life in general,” she replied weakly.

Chloe and Lex sat at her kitchen table. All Chloe could think about was the phone call from Dr Hope Morley. ‘A cure, isn’t that what you wanted, an end to all this,’ a little voice inside her spoke up.

“You *will* tell me if I’m boring you Chloe.”

Chloe snapped out of her internal crisis and looked at Lex. He was smiling at her and she forced herself to smile back. “I’m sorry Lex,” she said, “I don’t know what’s up with me today.”

“You’re still not 100% better,” he said, his eyes twinkling, “maybe *we* should go back to bed.”

“No need for that,” she said with a little laugh, “you have my complete attention, no more mental road trips.” They sat in silence for a moment, and Chloe wrestled with whether or not to ask the question that had been on her mind since last night. Something was wrong, Lex sensed that, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. But whatever it was would be sorted. ‘I’m not letting her go,’ he thought.

‘I am an evil, evil person,’ she thought. Taking a deep breath she took hold of his hand. “Lex, last night you said…you said that…that you…” she trailed off, unable to finish.

“Yes I meant it Chloe,” he said, squeezing her hand.

“I was afraid of that,” she murmured, tears filling her eyes. “Promise me something Lex?”

“Anything,” he said.

“Promise you won’t hate me. When things change so differently, just promise you won’t hate me. I don’t think I could bear it if you did.”

“Chloe, what’s wrong? I could *never* hate you.” Lex felt slightly worried now, she sounded like she was almost saying goodbye. “Chloe you are *not* leaving me, I’m not going to let you.”

“I’m not leaving,” she said, ‘well actually in a way I am,’ she added silently to herself. “Please Lex, just promise me.”

Lex took her in his arms and held her close, “I promise Chloe.”

Chloe wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight. ‘You could always not take the cure,’ the little devil-Chloe on her shoulder said. Chloe shook her head and pressed closer to Lex.

Lex was confused and it was a feeling he didn’t like. Having his control completely lost whenever Chloe was around was bad enough. But he was confused by the way she was acting. He loosened his hold on her a little and kissed her lips gently. She moved her hands to his neck and kissed him back. It began as a chaste kiss but soon became very passionate. When they parted Chloe rested her head against his shoulder as she caught her breath.

“Are you sure you don’t need to go back to bed,” he said, trying to lighten the mood.

“Just hold me Lex.” And they stood like that for a while. Lex was content holding her close, Chloe was, in her heart, saying goodbye. When she was sure her eyes where clear of tears she pulled back to look into his eyes.

“Everything ok now?” he asked, brushing her hair from her eyes. Chloe nodded and smiled, he smiled back and kissed her forehead lightly. He still couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something wrong, but Chloe seemed better and he’d leave it till later to ask her about it.

“My father is in town today and I have too meet him. I’ll be gone for a few hours. When I get back we’ll go out or something.”

“Sure that would be nice,” she said. He grabbed his jacket and both walked to the front door. “I’ll see you later,” he said, kissing her. As if on cue his limo pulled up, he kissed her quickly again and she watched as he made his way to the car and got in. When it had disappeared from sight she closed the door and leaned back against it.

“Goodbye Lex,” she whispered and this time let the tears fall.

--------------------------------------------------

Lex left Chloe’s in a happy mood despite whatever crisis she seemed to have gone though. Last night had been amazing and his body was still basking in the afterglow. Even the prospect of a meeting with his father couldn’t dampen his mood.

“Dinner,” he said to the empty back of the limo, “I’ll take out to dinner tonight. She can wear that red silk dress we bought in Metropolis.” With that decided Lex sat back in his seat and mentally prepared himself for his father.

--------------------------------------------------

After freshening up, Chloe felt a little better. She tidied the house and wait for Dr Morley to arrive. She had called shortly after Lex has left and said she’d be there in about thirty minutes.

Chloe couldn’t stay easy. Every time she sat down and tried to relax she jumped up a minute later. And if she wiped the kitchen table once more she’d take the varnish off it.

While she did want an end to this, she didn’t want to lose Lex. And despite his *promise*, Chloe knew he would hate her. She had given up the hope that Lex, Clark and the others would forget all that had occurred. Unlike the Nicodemus plant they weren’t the ones infected. “Maybe I will forget,” she whispered. And although that was a good, if unlikely, idea, deep down Chloe didn’t want to ever forget the incredible time she had spent with Lex. She just wished she could hold onto the way her made her feel. In every look, word, touch and kiss last night he could almost feel the love he spoke of.

The doorbell rang and a sick feeling settled in Chloe’s stomach. Taking a deep breath to compose herself, she got up to answer it.

“Dr Morley,” she said opening the door, “please come in.”

“Please call me Hope,” she said as she followed Chloe as she led them to the front room. “Can I get you anything?” asked Chloe.

“No thank you,” said Hope, “so how’s the head?”

“It’s fine,” replied Chloe as they both sat down, “headaches are all gone.”

“Good, good. Now this cure, I tried a number of tests on the samples we took from you and I couldn’t really pinpoint the cause to your over active pheromones. There was another element in your blood, something I never saw before, which I put down as meteor related.” She paused for a moment and then continued.

“I tried neutralising it with a number of chemicals and mixtures of but none of them worked. I ran a sample though an x-ray machine and still not a damn change. Then as a last resort I zapped one sample with ultra violet rays and…and it worked. The pheromone levels dropped and after ten minutes they had returned to normal levels.”

“But doesn’t the sun give off ultra violet?” asked Chloe, “and for a change the sun has been shining in Smallville.”

“Yes you are correct,” said Hope, but the ultra violet rays from the sun are not quite pure, by the time they cut through the atmosphere and the ozone layer they have been diluted.”

“Is zapping me with these rays harmful?”

“No Chloe, it will be a controlled blast of rays for a brief period of time and…your life will be back to normal.”

Chloe sat silent as she let the words sink in. “It will be really all over,” she muttered. “I take it there isn’t going to be a chance of everyone forgetting what has happened?”

“No, I’m afraid not Chloe.”

“So they will all remember wanting me but will not really know why and will all of a sudden *not* want me.”

“That’s one way of putting it,” said Hope with a smile. “Look I understand if you need time for this…”

“No,” interrupted Chloe, “let’s do this now. If I sit and think about it at all I’ll never go through with it.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes,” said Chloe, “let’s do this.”

--------------------------------------------------

A couple of hours later a slightly woozy Chloe was being helped into her house by Hope. She led her to the couch and Chloe sat down. They had gone to Smallville hospital and through and friend of a friend Hope had got them the equipment they needed and the zapping had happened.

“Feeling better,” she asked.

“Yes,” said a sad Chloe.

“You really like Lex Luthor don’t you?” asked Hope. Swallowing hard, Chloe nodded.

“How far did it go Chloe? Did you sleep with him?”

“Yes,” whispered Chloe, “and he told me he loved me.” She started crying now. Hope put her arms around the sobbing girl, “Oh Chloe it will be alright.”

“No…no it won’t, he’s going to hate me.”

After a little while she stopped crying, “I’m sorry,” sniffed Chloe, feeling a little embarrassed.

“It’s ok. Look if its any consolation, the men who really got possessive about you and went to great lengths to see you etc, would have been attracted to you anyway. Your increased pheromone levels just made it impossible for them to resist.”

Chloe snorted, not believing her.

“Are you going to be ok Chloe because I need to get going?”

“I’ll be fine and thanks for everything Hope.”

“Let me know how things work out,” she said, giving Chloe her number.

“I will, but expect bad news.”

After Hope had gone Chloe sat on the couch and stared off into space. She didn’t feel any different. She picked up the phone and dialled Clark’s number. And few minutes later an excited Clark hung up after saying he’d be right over.

Chloe waited for Clark to come over. A knock on the front door alerted her to his arrival. ‘Now for the acid test,’ she thought. Plastering a bright smile to her face she opened the door. “Hi Clark,” she said brightly.

Clark frowned slightly, it was Chloe, she looked like, Chloe, so why did he feel, well, nothing. Over the last few days he had been thinking some rather x-rated thoughts about her and now he just thought of her as Chloe.

She knew instantly things were back to normal. “You ok Clark?”

“Yeah fine, fine.”

“So…did I miss anything in school today?”

“No,” he said, still sounding a little confused.

“Do you want to come in and hang out?”

“Maybe some other time Chlo, I need to get home, chores and such.”

“Well ok. See you tomorrow.”

“Sure, see you tomorrow.”

He turned and walked away, still feeling a little baffled. Chloe closed the door. ‘Back to being undesirable Chloe,’ she thought, ‘so the cure worked.’

“Oh God Lex,” she said, “he’s going to be coming over. What am I going to do? I can’t face him.”

She picked up the phone again and rang Lana’s number, “please be home,” she mumbled as the phone rang.

“Hello.”

“Lana, hi it’s Chloe, I was, erm, wondering if you were doing anything tonight?”

“Well I had nothing planned, why?”

“Well, I’m getting a little stir crazy being here on my own and I was wondering if I could come over?”

“Wow yes, I’d like that Chloe, you can stay the night if you want.”

“Perfect,” said Chloe, “I’ll be right over.”

“Cool, see you soon. Bye.”

“Bye Lana and thanks.”

Chloe threw some things into a bag, grabbed her car keys, locked up the house and headed straight for Lana’s. “Lex is going to be pissed,” she said as she drove.

Chapter Thirteen – If Your Love Is For Real

Chloe drove back to her own house in a pretty ok mood. Having a *sleepover* at Lana’s wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. Granted she had only gone over to avoid seeing Lex but the other girl had made the evening fun. They watched movies, ate junk food and generally talked crap and it was good. Chloe made a mental note to return the favour and invite Lana over to her place sometime.

As she turned onto the road to her house she wondered what Lex had done when he couldn’t contact her. ‘Maybe he just shrugged his shoulders and went home,’ she thought ‘Yeah right,’ a sarcastic voice in her head spoke up. “I really have to stop having conversations with myself,” she said with a smile.

“Ok, no sign of any limos or sports cars,” she muttered as she parked in front of her house. She got out and headed for the front door. Dumping her bag in the hall, she made her way to the kitchen.

“Oh shit…” she trailed off as she saw Lex slumped over the table asleep. Chloe just stood there staring at him. She tried to get her legs to move but they refused to obey. There was a bouquet of yellow roses on the counter and a box containing the red silk dress from their trip to Metropolis beside them.

Chloe let out a choked sob when she saw the dress and immediately put her hand over her mouth. But it was too late the noise woke Lex up. ‘Run,’ she thought, but still her legs wouldn’t move. In slow motion she watched as Lex rubbed his eyes and stood up. His gaze rested on her and she felt her heart lurch at the pain she saw reflected in them.

“Lex,” she whispered.

“So did you have *fun* Chloe?” he sneered, and Chloe winced at the anger in his voice.

“Please Lex, let me explain?”

“Explain, explain what? You *actually* have an explanation for making me feel like a fool. I must have rang a hundred times, and then I came over here and decided to wait for you. And so I waited like some lovesick fool and you never came back Chloe, you never came back. WHY?”

“Because I didn’t want you to hate me,” she cried, “I didn’t want to see the look in your eyes when you *really* looked at me.”

“I don’t understand,” he said, genuinely confused, “you keep bringing up how I’m going to hate you. Why? Why would I?”

“Because you don’t really want me. And I tried to resist you but…God Lex I just couldn’t. Have you any idea how you made me feel? Something…something weird happened to me, I fell into a pond that was infected with meteor rocks and it made me…it made me irresistible to men, my pheromone levels were off the chart. So you see, it wasn’t *me* you wanted, you just couldn’t resist me.”

“Let me get this straight, you are putting what we had down to a contender for your fucking Wall of Weird. Jesus Chloe, twist the knife a little deeper why don’t you.” Lex was really angry now.

“No…no Lex, I don’t see it like that. But come on think about it. You and Clark were fighting, Clark and Pete fighting. Whitney and Pete coming to blows…All over ME. When have ANY of you ever shown interest like that in me? I’ll tell you…NEVER.” Chloe couldn’t stop the tears that now streamed down her face.

“I never let my interest in you show Chloe because I couldn’t face the rejection you’d give me. But the last few days I haven’t been able to control my feelings. I’ve always wanted you Chloe. From the moment we met at the school to the ill-fated first interview I’ve wanted you. I watched you every moment I could, never getting close because I was afraid.” Lex took a deep breath and tried to get some kind of control over his emotions.

“And then I just couldn’t resist anymore and had to have you. You let me kiss and touch you. You let me *love* you and I never thought I’d be that happy. I told you I loved you, I have *never* said that to anyone and what do you do? You put it down to some crazy meteor theory.”

Chloe was speechless as she tried to come to terms with what he said. He always wanted her. Lex Luthor was in love with her and it had nothing to do with her off the chart pheromone levels.

“I thought you were different Chloe,” he said, his voice cracking with emotion, “but you’re not, you’re like all the other women I’ve ever been with. Usually they’re after my money but you…you just wanted to humiliate me. Well done Chloe, you actually succeeded.”

He turned and stormed past her, slamming the door behind him. Chloe collapsed on the floor and curled up, crying as her heart broke.

Outside Lex wiped the tears from his eyes and started walking away, never looking back

--------------------------------------------

Chloe felt hollow. The past two days since the confrontation with Lex seemed to drag by. She physically couldn’t cry anymore. Her dad had called a couple of times and she actually had to force herself to be happy when talking to him. She had to get out of the house; every room she walked into hit her with visions of Lex. And each time she went into the kitchen the look of pure hurt and sadness on his face when he left hung in the air.

And so she sat in the Torch office staring at a blank computer screen. She had decided to go back to school and discovered things were most definitely back to normal. As she had made her way to the office the jock-brigade were hanging around and the usual teasing had prevailed.

Pete had dropped by to see her. And when he realised he wasn’t attracted to her like before, he apologised in a weird way. Like he was wondering *why* he was actually apologising. She had also passed Whitney Fordman in the corridor, but he didn’t say anything, he just blushed and moved very quickly in the opposite direction.

“Chloe.”

She turned her head to see Lana standing there. “Hi Lana,” she said.

“So how has first day back been? She asked, sitting in the chair opposite Chloe. “Like I was never away,” said Chloe with a sigh.

“I’m heading to the Talon now, do you want to come with me? Clark and Pete will be there. I need friends around, Lex was in yesterday and boy was he in a bad mood.” Chloe perked up a little at the mention of Lex’s name. “A bad mood,” she said.

“Yes,” nodded Lana. “He also looked like hell. I don’t know what going on, but I hope he snaps out of it soon. Lex Luthor is kind of scary when he’s angry. So…are you coming with me?”

“Not just yet Lana, I’ll drop by later,” said Chloe. ‘Much later,’ she thought, ‘like maybe six months later.’

“Oh ok, see you.” And with that she left. Chloe sighed and turned back to her computer.

--------------------------------------------

“Oh the boss has just walked in,” said a panicked Lana as she saw Lex enter the Talon, “please let him be in a better mood.”

“Hi Lex,” she said, a smile on her face.

“Coffee, black, to go,” was all he said.

“Ok,” she sighed, turning to get his order.

“Hi Lex,” said Clark who had come over to the counter. Pete and Whitney soon joined him. “Clark” said Lex, “Mr Fordman. Mr Ross.” All four stood staring at each other for a moment before they all burst out laughing. Well all of them except Lex. “Man the last time we stood around like this violence was involved,” said Pete.

“Yeah,” agreed Whitney, “and to think we were arguing over *Chloe Sullivan*, man what was *that* about,” he added with disbelief.

“And what is wrong with Chloe?” asked Lex.

“Well…nothing really. But come on, something weird had to be going on, she’s not the kind of girl you lose your head over. I mean its Chloe Sullivan.”

“And again Mr Fordman I fail to see why that is so amusing. Chloe Sullivan is a beautiful, intelligent, funny woman. She is passionate about everything she believes in and true to her friends, even if they aren’t true to her. She is someone who would be your best friend as well as your lover.” Lex stopped talking as his heart beat faster as he thought about Chloe. ‘I have to sort things out,’ he thought.

Clark, Pete and Whitney just stood staring open-mouthed at Lex.

“Here’s your coffee Lex,” said Lana, looking at the four of them strangely before moving away to serve another customer.

Lex took his coffee and placed some money on the counter. Before he left he turned back to the others. “Oh and one other thing, not one of us is good enough for her.” And with that he left.

“Ok what just happened there?” said Pete.

“He is right though,” said Clark after a moment, “Chloe is pretty and she’s a great friend.”

“And she does have a great sense of humour,” added Pete, “and that snarky attitude is cute.”

“And she has a great *ass*,” said Whitney, a far away look in his eyes.

The other two just looked at him. “Well she does,” he said with a laugh, and soon Clark and Pete joined in.

--------------------------------------------

Chloe checked her watch, 7.30pm. She stretched in her chair; she had managed to get all her outstanding assignments done. “And now home,” she muttered, and switched off her computer. She packed up her bag and stood up. When she turned around she gasped as she saw Lex standing in the doorway.

“Hi,” she said weakly, when she had gotten over her shock at seeing him.

Lex said nothing; he just entered the office and crossed the room till he was right in front of her. He gently took her face in his hands and kissed her. Chloe neither rejected nor returned kiss, she couldn’t believe what was happening. But the gentle pressure of his lips inflamed her and she gave in. Her arms moved tentatively to his shoulders and she returned the kiss.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, when they parted. “I never, ever, wanted hurt you, things just got crazy.”

“Tell me there’s still a chance Chloe, and that I haven’t pushed you away,” he said, a slight pleading tone to his voice.

“You…you still want to be with me, even after everything that’s gone on.”

“The past two days have been hell Chloe. There were things…things said by both of us. I love you and despite what I hoped at the time, that’s not just going to stop. I don’t want it to stop. All my life my father has instilled in me that Luthor’s don’t show emotion, that emotions make you weak. Do you know how dead inside that makes me feel? And then you came along, all attitude and snark and things changed. You make me feel alive Chloe.”

She felt her eyes fill with tears and drop down her cheeks. Lex gently wiped them away with his thumbs. “I wish I could take back a lot of what I said,” he continued.

“So do I,” agreed Chloe.

“*Is* there a chance Chloe?” he whispered.

“I’ve never been in love before Lex,” she began, “and I don’t know exactly what I feel for you. But I do know that I want you in my life. You are all I think of Lex and the last couple of days have been torture for me as well.” She took a deep breath, “so yes…yes if you want to there is still a chance.”

Lex smiled and hugged her close. “You have completely bewitched me Chloe Sullivan.”

“Well as long as you remember that you’re *mine* Lex Luthor; things will work out just fine.”

Lex laughed and tightened his hold on her, “I always was Chloe. I always was.”

I just violated my no Fi fics during exam time rule. But it was so worth it. This was great Fi. It was like Chloe getting what that B!tch Desiree had and using her powers for good and not gold digging evil. You know your aces in my book kiddo. (sorry bout the kiddo just saw Kill Bill Vol 2)

This one is great :)

I really loved, how you put Chloe's worries, that Lex might be angry at her and take everything back in it. And the end is the best ending you could've chosen.

Great work, I love it :)

The idea of those three boys tripping over each other in an attempt to gain Chloe’s attention is just hilarious. An irresistible Chloe huh? It’s an interesting concept. I enjoyed seeing it play out.

Thanks for writing.

I certainly enjoyed this story.

Having read some of the other things you've posted, this one feels like an earlier attempt at writing. There was a slightly stilted feeling that you have since smoothed over.

I'd be fascinated to see if you'd change anything if you were editing it now. Or if it would turn out very different if you started from scratch with the same premise.

This story shows how much you've developed, I simply marvel at your growth.

Thank you for this very entertaining read.

Another really good fic. I read this earlier and hadn't commented on it yet. It's so nice when Chloe is the center of attention instead of Lana. The scene when Clark, Lex, Whitney and Pete all show up at her house is really funny. Although the attention she received from Lionel Luthor and Jonathon Kent was a bit unexpected. I'm glad that Chloe finds out that Lex was always interested in her.

Great story! I like how Chloe didn't lose her head when she's suddenly the apple of every man's eye in Smallville. It was wonderful when Lex defended Chloe against the other guys and told them that she's a great person and partner. The last scene between Lex and Chloe was very sweet.
